Lover's Moon

I finally got a copy of HFO second night, and I heard this song for the first time last night (I know it is on Eagleland, but somehow I always missed it). Oh my....it is so beautiful! Glenn does such a wonderful job on it, and of course Don's harmonies on the chorus are gorgeous as well.

I just wondered what you thought of it? And why in the world did they drop it from the HFO tour?

Personally, I wish they would add a two-fer to the next tour: Glenn on Lover's Moon and Don on Talking to the Moon.

I would be in heaven.

They probably dropped it because despite of how lovely it sounds, it slowed the pace of the show down a bit much, perhaps. It is great, though.

The thing that really blows me away on that bootleg is Peaceful Easy Feeling. WOW.

Lover's Moon was never part of the HFO tour. The HFO TV special/DVD and the tour of the same name are very, very different.....hardly the same setlist.



Lover's Moon is a fantastic song and I really like the Eagles' version. There's a video of it from Second Night on the Fastlane so you might want to try to find it sometime. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

New York Minute wasn't done during the HFO tour either, was it? I think both NYM and Lover's Moon were experiments. I would have liked Lover's Moon to have been included in the final release, or PEF. Yes, Lover's Moon is slow, but it's a bit more interesting than LWKUA, which we have been stuck with ever since.

NYM is on my East Rutherford 1994 bootleg, but it was dropped pretty early on, apparently. I guess it still qualifies as a failed experiment!

It was never on the tour per se, no, but that's the whole point - why wasn't it on the tour when every other song they played that night eventually made it onto a HFO setlist, with the additional exceptions of Best of My Love, The Last Resort, Learn to Be Still, and In the City? I think pacing was the issue not only in Lover's Moon but in the first three as well. I'm not sure why In the City didn't make it.

You can't drop songs that were never regular parts of the setlist. Learn to be Still was done at the first few shows in Irvine and then dropped (it's on one of the Irvine boots). NYM was only done in New Jersey (a geography thing, apparently).

I believe that the reason Lover's Moon and NYM were not part of the regular set was because they were done for the acoustic MTV Unplugged, which is what HFO started out as....an MTV Unplugged. The songs were worked up to be done with the orchestra. Since they didn't have the orchestra with them on the road, it didn't make a lot of sense to do them as part of the tour.....and maybe they felt there were too many "slow" songs.

As I'm sure you know, both songs had been played on the road before (Lover's Moon in Japan 1992 and NYM numerous times), it's not as if they didn't have ready-made road-tried arrangements. They chose not to use them because of the fact that the slow songs would drag things down, I believe. JMHO. :)

As I said earlier, I agree with you that these were probably dropped because of the fact that they would drag the show down. As I'm sure you know, these guys like to work up special things for special occasions (Like Don's Witchy setlist when touring with Stevie). The revamped / acousitc Hotel California is testament to this. They never performed that version live either...except for the broadcast. Just to add to this, I was listening to it earlier today. Glenn sounds so raw and nervous it makes you cry. The fact that it's Don singing with him makes it that much more poignant. They could do worse than revive this, slow as it is. He needs at least one solo song in the Eagles show.

I just downloaded these from the Fastlane and watched them. Thank you, L&M. I agree with you, Julie, he almost sounds tentative, as if he is nervous of the other guys' opinions - which is silly of me, because being such professionals they would obviously have rehearsed it before going live. All the same, it is a moving performance and strikes more of a chord with me than the recorded version. As for acoustic PEF and Best of My love - sheer bliss.

I agree Glenn's live version of this is OUTSTANDING! I always thought his voice is beautiful in this song. However, IMO, the the recorded version is just average. I also agree that he should definately include a couple of his solo songs in the Eagles concerts, but this wouldn't be my first choice.

I also think he sounds tentative and nervous in PEF, too - and he presumably was aware of the other members' opinions of his vocals on that song. Again that makes it a very moving performance. The only thing that annoys me about it is the electric guitar parts sound unfinished.

I agree, although his voice gets stronger as he goes along, and he almost seems reassured when Don's harmonies come in. It is moving indeed.

I love PEF's soft start and then the way it gains strength. It's a highly effectively arrangement - my favorite version. I wish they still played it like that.

What were their opinions..? (Sorry...I haven't seen/heard this or heard anything about it...lol...for an obsessed fan I know precious little! ;) Did they not like it, or are you saying he was just sort of waiting out to see how they reacted to his vocal on it?

I think Julie meant that they have sung it together since the very beginning, whereas Lover's Moon was a Glenn solo song, and that would have been the first time he sung it with the others.
