I just came across something and it made me think of a comment that Glenn made once during a show - something like "it's kinda like making love - if it ain't messy, it ain't no fun." Does anyone happen to remember what show it was that he made the remark? I want to say it was during his younger years, but I'm not sure. I checked out glennfreyonline to see if it was in the Quotable Frey thread, but I didn't see it. http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif I figure if anyone would remember where it is, it definately would be one of us! Yeah - I know - pathetic isn't it!!! http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif

I've got it!

It's in L&M's audio archives - "Glenn wants a cheeseburger!"

Dreamer, that's a rather thought provoking quote that I'm sure could inspire a deep intellectual discussion here. :D

-------------

Cause I'm livin' on things that excite me,
Be they pastries or lobsters or love;
I'm just tryin' to get by being quiet and shy,
In a world full of pushin' and shove.

Wow Kate - very impressive and thank you very much. I'm so proud of your total and pathetic shallowness. I knew someone would come through for me here! :D

And Z, let the discussions begin. This quote supports my theory that Glenn is a loveable slob.http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif

Hmmm, it made me think of the line "the sheets are all over the floor!"

So let me make sure I understand this mOlly. While I say Glenn is a loveable slob - you seem to be implying that he is a slobby (or perhaps sloppy) lover. Hmmmm - that works!http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif

Slobby and sloppy have nothing to do with the sheets being on the floor. Unless of course, you leave them laying there for the next two weeks! ;)

I have new favorite Glenn quote....it comes from the documents in the Felder lawsuit. Felder's lawyer said Glenn said to him, "It's too bad you represent the only a**hole in the band." When questioned about that statement during his deposition Glenn said he didn't recall saying it. His memory was refreshed and he admitted, "Yeah, that sounds like something I would have said." The man has such a way with words. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Perhaps I should make a new category on Quotable Frey - "Sex and Cheeseburgers." ;)

And that Felder comment is funny too!

Lol! Why, thank you, Kay ;) It's the sort of thing that sticks in my mind, you know!

Funny that he had to have his memory jogged on that Felder quote!

L&M - thanks for that quote from the Felder deposition. The man does have a way with words, and that does, indeed, sound like something he would say.

Here's another one taken from Soda's Quotable Frey that I like a lot. So '70's Glenn:

"We fight about everything: playing too loud, facial expressions, drinkin’ too much, stayin’ up too late... Talking in a restaurant. Not saying anything when you shoulda spoke up. The issue is not the important thing; the important thing is that it gets vented. When you’re in a band, when you’re working with a producer, with managers, with a whole lot of other people, it’s all a romantic relationship. When the band don’t get off, the band fights. When a man and his old lady don’t make good love in the space of a certain time, there’s gonna be a fight. It’s gonna get released some way. It’s Creative Tension. We’ve known each other now for a long time, but... it’s still a very frightening experience when you bare your soul to somebody. There’s very few people on this planet you ever do that to, an’ we’re doin’ that to each other constantly. Bein’ in the Eagles is bein’ married to four men. The music is our love life." (Phonograph Record 1975)

The 70s quote is fine but they make him sound like a hick, which he isn't. Why 'an'' instead of 'and' - it's an affectation on the writer's part.

BTW - I did add the sex and cheeseburgers quote after all! It's under miscellaneous - too good to pass up! lol

Edit: sex and getting off - Glenn's favorite metaphors of the 70s. lol

Gee, I find those quotes endearing since I think they show his Midwestern working class roots, which is something I can claim to be, also. I guess that makes me a "hick", too.

Being married to THOSE four men???? Excuse me while I visit some very incredible places.

I'm sorry I can't explain it more clearly but I meant no offence.

I'm intrigued by Z's suggestion that we discuss this food and sex metaphor. I would like to bring in some correlating text:

"I've been going hungry for way too long

I'm a starving man; you know I'm not that strong

Chocolate soda, banana split

Bar-B-Q roasting on an open pit

Sweet juices running down your fingertips

It's nothing like the taste of your sweet lips "

Hoh yeah. My analysis is... um...

Soda - I think your analysis of those lyrics is spot on. Now, as far as Z, I'm not sure she is in a conscientious state. She has been taken to incredible places thinking of being married to all those Eagles. :pimp:

With regard to the quote I posted, I don't think Glenn sounds like a 'hick' - I think he sounds like exactly what he was at the time he said it - a twenty-something year old guy in a 70's rock band who was trying to be cool and talking the way cool guys talked back then. :)

And that was before a certain long-haired bass player joined the band! ;)

Nancy, er, yes, I'm with you there!!

I honestly did not mean to say that I thought Glenn sounded like a 'hick' but I did not like the writer's style, that's all.

I think I get what you mean, Julie. It is unusual for a maganzine writer to make such an effort to convey dialect that he leaves off the "d" in "and" so it takes one by surprise. I'm sure no one here has any problem with Glenn's speech at all. Quite the opposite! ;)

I posted that quote because I thought it was funny and cute. IMO, the reason it is funny and cute is because it so beautifully characterizes how young, cool, male 70's rock stars acted. I'm sure you would never hear anything like that come out of Glenn's mouth today. As a matter of fact, he'd probably do one of those huge eyerolls if someone showed it to him. I'm sure I said things in my younger days that I'd do the same. The difference is I'm not famous so no one bothered to quote me.

In any event, it's just a quote. I'm sure the writer must have gotten some feedback at the time if Glenn had a problem with the way the writer represented him. :)

My favorite part of that quote is the "when a man and his old lady don't make good love" analogy. It is indeed very seventies cool!

BTW, since we're doing favorite quotes, one of my favorites - besides the sweaty orgasm one ;) - is:

"Except for a few guitar chords everything I've learned in my life that is of any value I've learned from women." (Interview Magazine 1986)

Nice!

That's what I mean, Nancy! Can you imagine Glenn (or anyone else for that matter) making that same comment today? http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif

And then, the quote you posted about learning everything of value from women - see how much Glenn wised up in such a short time. What a difference a decade makes! :D :D :D

I found this today.

"Former Eagle Glenn Frey, now a solo artist, in a Circus Magazine exclusive, about how he's taking care of himself now that he's settled down and become a married man: "I've cut down on my monstering a little bit; I'll let you decide what monstering means. To me, it's imbibing things to change your chemistry, make you feel good, make you smart or make you dumb! You know, someone once made the joke, 'When you're young, you bounce back and when you're old, you just lay there and groan loudly.'"

"You just pick your party spots a little more selectively. You know, as one of the authors of 'Life In The Fast Lane', I did everything all of the time! And, it still wasn't enough. But, now, I just sort of pick my spots."

Brooke

Haha! At least Glenn admits he was a wild man! And is smart enough to now take it easy!

Thanks for the quotes, GEF. Glad the guy toned it down or he probably would be in pretty bad shape nowadays. Just look at some of his contemporaries - the ones that are still alive, that is!

Just a cute little piece from someone's blog:

I saw Glenn Frey play not too long ago and some fan started being obnoxious. " I am not playing another note until you sit down and shut up," said Glenn Frey in the nicest, gentle way. So that is what happened.

 And I can just see him doing it too! I can see him saying it - quietly, inoffensively gently......but firmly and in charge! :inlove: I bet the so called fan sat down and shut up!

Aside: Imagine having the priviledge (MF sp?) of being able to see Glenn  play live and behaving in such an obnoxious manner that he has to tell you to stop  . Some people just don't appreciate what they have!

Mrs Frey

Thanks for posting that quote, GEF! I can just imagine the death stare from Glenn  that went along with his "gentle" request! I agree with GA (and FP will like that too! ): firm and in charge! If the fan hadn't sat down and shut up, I'm sure he/she would have had not only Glenn  to deal with, but also the rest of the audience!

Oh, and GA: privilege without the "d".
