ETA: Now Desperado is playing. It's a classic rock afternoon, lol.

This isn't actually about what I heard, but this is what my daughter texted me from her Jr. High classroom:

"We're listening to 'It's Easy' from the Eagles"

(apparently I haven't raised her right )

Then she adds,

"Btw someone said their granddaddy listened to this same song yesterday"

Earlier in the week, "Imus in the Morning" played "In the City," with the 'I-Man' giving the introduction "Eaglease on your Heartbreak Radio Station!" That riff was taken from radio legend Jimmy Rabbitt's broadcasts back in the 70's, apparently.

Imus also played "The Long Run" when introducing "My Pillow" founder Mike Lindell, as the song is one of his 5 favourites.

ETA: Just turned on the radio, and there's "Already Gone" playing on the area's college radio station.

I won't actually hear it until Saturday but one of the couples in 'Strictly come dancing' (the UK's version of 'Dancing with the stars') will be dancing a tango to Glenn's 'The heat is on'.

I live atop a hill, and someone on one of the streets below me was cranking a song I thought I recognized. Zeroing in on it, I quickly realized the tune to be "Life in the Fast Lane."

Good one to crank, amirite?

I was surprised to hear Those Shoes on my local classic rock station, KFOX, at around 1 pm as I was pulling into my driveway. I sat in the car just to listen to the whole song. I know that classic rock stations will play Eagles songs, but I didn't think that Those Shoes would be on any station's playlist. It wasn't a single, right?

One of my local classic rock stations QFM96 has always played "Those Shoes" at least since I've been listening to them in the 90s but they love the Eagles (the first song they played when the station started in the late 70s was "New Kid in Town") and it's locally owned so they can play other songs in their rotation that weren't singles. It all depends on who owns the station.

Excellent idea! Unfortunately I can't remember seeing any jukeboxes in the pubs I've been to, and if they do have music I think it tends to be 'piped-in' playlists. If you don't mind me asking, do they usually have a list of songs to choose from by a given artist, or can you play pretty much anything? Picking out more obscure songs has a certain appeal to me!

For older artists it's reasonably limited but not exceptionally so, the Eagles gets down to about Best of My Love level, but certainly nothing that wasn't a single. Joe I recall has the single cuts of about five songs and that's it, I'd presume Don H. and Glenn similar. I tend to mix up my selections a bit so my friends don't disown me, but at least one of my trio is always an Eagles song, it just depends what the reason for drinking is as to what I pick!

So my school plays music during the passing periods, and I have long awaited the day they play an Eagles song. It has been 7 months and I am glad to announce the day has finally come, this morning we got Take It Easy! They cut it off early :( even though the song is about 3.5 minutes long and our passing periods our 5... but I'll take it!

Thanks for that link, Dawn. I've wondered about Randy's publishing company, Nebraska Music. Not to go too far OT, but I noticed Billy Dean covered "Saturday Night" and someone named "Brooks, K" covered "Hearts on Fire"--could that be Kix Brooks of Brooks and Dunn? Interesting.

That ASCAP site is real interesting, but some of the info seems garbled. Why is Randy listed as the sole writer of Bitter Creek; the performer of "Wanna Be With You" was Nelson, Rick not Ruk; Don and Glenn did not write "Midnight Flyer" and so on. What is "Paces" what is "ON N A QU UNE VIE"...

From what I saw the Wikipedia list is what's on the official soundtrack that's for sale and not every song in the movie will be on that. So we'll just have to hear from someone who actually sees it.

Wikis are user edited and thus inevitably, errors will creep in. The same is true for sites so many people believe are definitive such as setlist.fm and imdb. They can be useful, but do not trust what they say unquestioningly.

I have no idea what's up with the ASCAP site - is it official?

I have a question about the ASCAP listings for TITTL. It lists the three writers and gives the PRO (Performance Rights Organisation) for each. It appears that only Randy is still with ASCAP, but who or what is "NS", the PRO given for Glenn and Don? Note that their names are not highlighted so you can't see a list of their songs.

Taking it further, JD Souther is highlighted (but clicking on the link doesn't seem to work) but also has a PRO of "NS" but there's a qualifier that says:
"This work has been removed from the ASCAP Repertory except with respect to final written license agreements in effect on the following date(s) (corresponding to each interest referenced above): 1: 07/01/2016)"

I've been hearing Glenn songs a lot lately. New Kid in Town was playing at a restaurant I went to for a business lunch. I walked into the restaurant and it was playing super loud. Little did my coworkers know that the big smile on my face had nothing to do with the business lunch.

I was in vacation in Canada last week and True Love was playing in a mall I went to. Then, when I got back, I went out to dinner and Take It Easy was playing in the restaurant. It's been nice.

More from the UK;

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is set to return for a brand new series to mark its 40th anniversary.

The radio comedy debuted in 1978 and went on to spawn a range of novels, comic books, TV series and the 2005 feature film, which starred Martin Freeman and Zooey Deschanel.

http://www.nme.com/news/tv/the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy-new-radio-series-bbc-radio-four-anniversary-2149319

For the uninitiated, the theme tune for The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is Bernie's Journey Of The Sorcerer, initially the Eagles version (as you can hear in the episode 1 link), subsequently updated covers.

I'll be looking out for it in 2018.

Sam gave his sister a very old book that she said was her favorite, it just happened to be Walden by Henry David Thoreau. I thought hmm, Don Henley would be pleased.

Then at the end of the episode Sam proposed to Cassie and I sat up a bit straighter when I heard the voice singing in the background it was Don Henley singing Taking You Home. I was like wow, how did they get permission for that.... Two references in one episode. :woah:

I know you got burned out on In the City from Sirius playing it so much. Sometimes I get frustrated with some Oldies Rock stations. For all the hits from Eagles to choose from, they seem to play the same four or so over and over! I think they're lazy! They will say things like, "Sally wants to hear After the Thrill is Gone, but I can't find it..Here's Hotel California!".
Uh huh.

Same thing where I'm at. Usually I hear Hotel California, Already Gone, Take It to the Limit, and One of These Nights where I live.

Once in a while they will play Take It Easy or Lyin Eyes, and when they really stretch out, The Long Run or Heartache Tonight.

Can't say that I've ever heard other songs like I Can't Tell You Why, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Tequila Sunrise, New Kid In Town, etc on the local radio station(s).

Not recently, but about a year or so back (before I started posting here), I was at a conference for work when I heard Poco's Keep On Trying come on the radio at the place we were having lunch.

I love that song and recognized it immediately, but one of the people I was there with thought it was some religious/choir song lol. This person, who is at least 20-25 years older than I am (I just turned 30 a couple of months back), had no idea who Poco was. I told him about Poco and TBS. Still no recognition.

I then said, well TBS was the second bass player the Eagles had, and he was like "I know the Eagles!" lol.

Then he paused and said "Wait, they had more than one bass player?" :headscratch:

I nearly face-palmed :brickwall: (but didn't because he was one of my supervisors lol) and started talking to him about Poco, the Eagles, Randy and TBS.

So if nothing else came from the conference, at least one person left there more educated about the Eagles and music history lol.

Currently watching the figure skating team competition of the Winter Olympics and the ice dancing pair from Canada just did their skate to a medley of classic rock songs with first The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil", the more Latin sounding version of "Hotel California" I think from HFO but could have been a cover, and then Santana's "Oye Coma Va".

I'm watching the Olympics right now and the Canadian ice dancing pair skated to a classic rock medley that included the beginning of Hotel California, the acoustic HFO version. I was so excited I was screaming at the tv. I'd give them an extra point for using such great music, but deduct points for not using the entire song ;)

I was watching the CMA awards last night and one of the commercials was for the Cars 3 dvd/Blue-ray—and the trailer they used was the one with Take It to the Limit.:-)

Yeah it was used for the movie.

(Slightly OT) What happens when a famous song like this comes on a kids' movie? Immature comments section on YouTube happens! Idk, if you TITL is blocked on YT for you, but if it isn't, look at the comments: "oMg cArS 3 brught me here!!!", "I onLy care about cars 3, not this song lol". Kids on YouTube is a catastrophe waiting to happen. Ruining the sanctity of the comments sections of so much music. It's even worse if a song comes on video games. Oh god, I play video games and know a lot, and when this happens, it gets ridiculous!

IDK, I remember seeing a lot of positive comments overall about the song, posters wanting to know the title, talking about how emotional it is, etc. I think it’s cool when kids get exposed to old hit songs.

We are fortunate enough to have a non-profit oldies station close that not only plays songs from the fifties to the seventies, they routinely play things not normally heard on the radio.

When was the last time you heard "Midnight Flyer" on the radio? The first time we heard the station play it, husband did a quick check to make sure it wasn't the CD playing.

Oh yeah Stars - I love it when this happens. Shortly before Christmas, I was in Target and heard New Kid In Town. I am so pathetic that I have my own personal rule when this happens - I am not allowed to leave the premises until the song is finished.

I heard New Kid in Town at Fashion Island twice, on Aug 19 and Sep 9. Did this place normally play Christmas music that time of year and for the sake of Eagles music decide to play "New Kid in Town" right then, because that is when they know good music.

My husband and I have been "dealing" with this furniture store since... uh, May? Anyway, what's good about going into this store is they have the most incredible music playing over the PA system. (Seriously, the first time we signed for this dang chair that might actually show up Monday, the salesman had to get my attention because I was grooving to Seger's "Breakdown", and they played Henley's "Boys of Summer" right after that.) So, we sign the final papers (please, let them be the final papers), get up to leave, and "Heartache Tonight" comes on.

So, hubby and I go spontaneous furniture shopping. When the song was almost over, husband whispers to me, "I'm not really looking to buy anything, I just wanted to hear the song." And I start laughing, because I was thinking the same thing!

Last weekend, I was listening to the Opry live on the radio while driving to work. I heard the bluegrass group, The Osborne Bros., singing "Midnight Flyer".(They had recorded it originally). After finishing, he said (not verbatim)..".a little while ago--I guess it's been a long time now... the Eagles recorded that song. I never would have guessed they would have done one of our songs, but they did a fine job!". That got a cheer.

I sure wasn't expecting an Eagles nod when I turned on WSM.

For songwriter nerds like myself, the writer of the song was Paul Craft; he wrote many country hits...including the humorous "It's Me Again, Margaret". You never know!

Thanks to CAinOH and Dreamer for posting the Osborne's original recording. As you can hear, they didn't do the train effect with the "Oooooos" like our guys did. I haven’t heard the studio version so I don’t know about the train whistle sounds (or it’s been a very long time anyway). We know how Bernie liked adding those extra sound effects to music so who knows. But I am pretty sure the Eagles came up with that awesome instrumental outro in their version.

I heard "Heart of the Matter" in CVS today - which was very appropriate because a lot of forgiveness was necessary.

They kept me waiting for an hour while they supposedly filled my prescription - only to tell me that they actually didn't have my medicine after all! This after they hadn't picked up the phone when I'd called earlier... they just left me on hold for an hour (I left the phone on to see if they'd ever answer it, and it cut off after 60 minutes).

But I think it's about forgiveness... forgiveness... even if they don't serve me very well.

This is funny. This morning as I was heading to work, one of my local radio stations played Please Come Home For Christmas. :hmm: I'm trying to figure out why they are playing that song in February. lol

I also heard You Belong To The City yesterday. I also heard the real bad edited version of The Heart Of The Matter. I hate that version, but it was cool to hear The Heart Of The Matter.

Just heard NKIT in the airport yesterday headed on vacation.

It was nice to hear it. I swear, it is going to break my top 5 Eagles songs someday. I really like it, and I really used to not like it. So sometimes songs grow on me. Like right now, I'm not a fan of Lyin' Eyes, but maybe someday...

I don't go out much anymore (health issues) but, I've never been lucky enough to hear an Eagles song while out in a store somewhere like Wal-Mart. They're too stupid to play anything good. :(

I will say, though, that my all-time favorite song by the band would have to be Randy Meisner's "Try & Love Again"! Man, what a beautifully crafted song and the harmonies are perfect!!!

I just recently purchased the new box set, "Legacy", and I'm wishing that my Dad would fix my home theatre system so that I could listen to the band's CDs (I say that because I've got two 300-CD changers and all of my CDs (the ones that aren't on my computer) are on those players.

Glad NKIT has grown on you, Austin - I've always adored the song and consider it up there near the top of the band's best songs. I love how Glenn excels at singing the 'story' songs so maybe their is hope that Lyin' Eyes will grow on you as well. And, BTW, have a nice time in Florida.

And tt - I love TALA too, although, for me, TITTL will always be my favorite Randy song.

Headed out to get some errands done the other night. I have my CDs playing in the car (as usual). "You Belong to the City" comes on just as I pull up to the stop light. As (I am very sure) you all know, that song starts out with a sax solo. I look at the car ahead of me, and the license plate reads: SAXGUY. I just cracked up laughing.

This short tale is sort of a crossover between this thread and the "Things that remind you of the Eagles", but this little trifecta is too good not to tell.

Sunday mornings at our house never starts as early as we think it should, but we do eventually get going to go out for breakfast. I head out to the building to take care of the outdoor cats and turn on the fans and the radio before starting the quick things that need to be done out there. (Really, quick things: feed, make sure the three ladies have water, and clean the cat box.) Nearly done, I realize TITTL is clearing playing in my head, so I finish, tell the cats to have a good day and start outside. Walk past the radio and, sure enough: TITTL is playing. Must have heard enough of it over the fans to get it started playing in my head.

On the way to the restaurant, one of the local radio stations plays the old Kasey Kasem Top 40 from the same weekend in the seventies. So husband and I try to guess the year by what they're playing. We figure it's 1972 or 1973. Almost to the restaurant, Mr. Kasem announces, "This is the 16th most popular song on the countdown this week, up from last week. It's from a Los Angeles group called the Eagles, and the song is Take It Easy." Okay, 1972!

The "crossover" comes once we get to the restaurant and sit down at the table. They're already busy (we're later than we wanted to be... as usual). We're just waiting for our food, and the waitress goes to the booth behind us to take their order. She says: "We're featuring a new mimosa, the Tequila Sunrise mimosa." (Does tequila mix with champagne? I don't think I really want to find out.)

Not bad for a Sunday morning! :)

Oh, Kasey Kasem, if you want us to guess what year the Top 40 program comes from, you need to quit giving us Eagles' songs! This week's program included Wildflower and Please Mister Please, so we were pretty sure it was 1975. But One Of These Nights at position four (and going up!) sealed it. Then there was Peaceful Easy Feeling before going in the store to pick something up and Bob Seger's Night Moves playing when we came out.

It was weird because 1: That's the first time they've ever played an Eagles song and 2: The song came out in 2007. Its not an 80s song, but it was cool to hear it. I was so shocked. They also played David Bowie's 2013 single The Stars Are Out Tonight.

I was watching I Want My 80s the other night too, which I rarely watch, and they played All She Wants to Do is Dance!

I noticed that too, though, that they played videos that were not from the 80s. They played Queen's The Show Must Go On, which came out in the 90s.

They usually play All She Wants To Do is Dance. I think I did hear it this week, but I know I heard it last week.

They use to play The End of The Innocence, You Belong To The City and The Boys of Summer. They haven't played those videos that much since they change the channel from VH1 Classics to MTV Classics.

I had wonder about The Show Must Go On too. That's 91. That came out a few months before Freddie died.

I was in a restaurant last night - Captain Americas. Its kind of like an Irish equivalent of TGIF. It has loads of music memorabilia, and in the rafters it has rack upon rack of album sleeves inclusing several Eagles albums, and Glenn 's NFA.
Anyway as we were being lead to our table PEF came on, and then while we were eating our meal we were treated to THIO!

I was in WalMart and I heard Sunset Grill.
