Well - I've only got a minute to post right now, but I wanted to come in and let everyone know that even though the concert was awesome last night, there haven't been any changes made to the show. I had told Soda that I would call her from the show if they had made any changes to anything, but nothing has changed. Of course, I'll be back with more details later.

Dreamer, So glad to hear that the show was awesome, even though no changes have occurred with regards to the set list. I can hardly wait to hear all the details about the concert when you have a chance to post!

The 'well publicised animosity' stuff is a thing of the past and I don't know why these writers keep bringing it up. They travel to the venue in separate vehicles. So what?

And if they are so happy about Steuart being a Virginian you would think they would spell his name correctly.

Sorry for the delay in getting this review posted, but real life got in my way yesterday. As I said before, at Monday night’s show in Hampton, the band was full of it’s usual awesomeness. They all sounded and looked great. The acoustics in that venue are wonderful and the guys voices were in fine form – perhaps benefiting from the holiday break. I wasn’t really expecting any changes to the show, and there weren’t any. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that if they are going to make any changes at all, then at the earliest, we may see them is when they begin the European tour in late spring. But, they may not make any changes until after they play the U.S. west coast.

In any event, there were some memorable moments to report. Joe, of course, was sporting a new ring on his left hand. Also, I noticed that for the only time that I have ever seen a show either live or on tape, Joe did not say “How Ya Doin’?” I honestly think he just simply forgot to say it. He did wish everyone a Happy New Year though. I was a little disappointed during Somebody because I made a point to watch Don after the way he rocked it D.C. He wasn’t nearly as “into” it Monday night as he was that night in D.C. However, he made it up at end of the show. When they were waving their goodbyes, Don was giving us the “victory” or “V” sign, and Tim walked over towards him. Don stuck his hand behind Tim’s head to make it look like bunny rabbit ears (or devil horns). He had an adorable grin on his face, as Tim was totally oblivious to what he was doing. To my surprise, it was Don rather than Tim that was the last to leave the stage. Again, I was a little disappointed that Tim didn’t tell the Paul Carrack story at the beginning of Love Will Keep Us Alive like he did in D.C. The big Glenn moment came during the intros – I got two lines of “My Girl” – of course, I was in heaven as I screamed for more. My only regret is that this occurred during the time that I was sitting in the section that was farther away from the stage.

As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I bought seats in two different sections because there were five of us that were going to the show. The two “best” seats were 6th row center, seats 3 & 4. Because there was a very small amount of space between the stage and the front row, our seats were very close to the stage, and we had a wonderful view the entire night, even us short people. The other seats we had were actually pretty good as well, but, obviously, the view was much better from the 6th row. I had only planned on going down to the “best” seats at the end of the show. Eaglette was “fixed” in one of the “best” seats, and I do mean fixed. It was priceless seeing the expression on her face when we first went in the auditorium and she realized how close she was to the stage. She proclaimed that she would not be moving the whole night, and she wasn’t kidding even though I told her that no one could ‘steal’ her seat. The plan was that her mom (my niece) was going to sit with her the 1st set, and her dad (Screamin' Eagle) the 2nd set until I came down after Funk 49. However, about halfway through the 1st set, my niece came up to our other seats and said that Eaglette wanted me to come down and sit with her. I guess she thought her mom was not worthy. :shh: So I went down and sat with her. At one point, I think Glenn recognized me and smiled at me. She actually saw it before I did. I told her that I wasn’t positive that it was me that he was smiling at, but of course, she was more than positive that it was. Since she was the only young person that I spotted anywhere around us, she was getting attention from the audience and the band (and loving every minute of it). The people sitting around us were in awe of how “knowledgeable” she was.

Now, Eaglette had bought 4 roses and written a note to each of the band members, which we attached to the roses. During the break for the encore, she and I walked around to the front of the stage. I knew we weren't going to get up to the stage because as I said before, there was just a very small space between the stage and seats. I asked a security guard if he would take them up to the stage for us. He said they weren’t allowed to put anything on the stage. I tried to plead with him a bit, but could see it wasn’t working. He told me to take them to the “production office” and the band would get them. I wasn’t quite buying that, but figured I’d give it a shot. He pointed me to where the office was. We walked around and there was another guard stationed at the door. He said we couldn’t get in without a pass. I asked him if he would just take them, but he wouldn’t. By that time, I heard the crowd yelling, and knew the band had come back on stage. We went back to the auditorium, and I told the first security guard that the guy wouldn't take them. He softened a bit, he said that they were under strict orders not to put anything on stage, but he would take them to the production office for me. I asked him if the orders were from the band or the venue, but he didn’t answer. Anyway, he left and walked around, but, sadly, I have a sneaky feeling that Glenn, Don, Joe, or Timothy never saw Eaglette’s roses or notes. I only hope that this was the venue and not the band. We’ll have to be on the lookout to see if this continues at other venues. The security at the venue was pretty rigid. Before the show started, they were coming up and down the front aisles saying that no one was permitted to stand at any point during the show. Of course, that was laughable – there was no way that they could keep everyone from standing during the last part of the show.

BTW - Screamin' Eagle took a lot of pics. We'll try to get them posted soon if they turn out.

I may think of some other stuff that I left out, but I wanted to go ahead and get something posted. Even though Eaglette didn't get to give them her roses and notes, the show did not disappoint. I guess I'll have to savor it because it will probably be the last show I see for a long while.

Thanks for your review, Dreamer. Too bad for Eaglette :-( I don't understand why you couldn't put the roses on the stage, these were just roses :| And I wonder if the direction not to stand up came from the band or from the venue. When they were here the last time we could stand up and dance whenever we want to. I never saw people just sitting at any concert here in Germany but at a classic concert perhaps. Let's see how it goes this year here.

Glad you all enjoyed the show Dreamer! What a bust about the roses tho.

The whole thing about not standing is crazy!! I have to think that is a venue thing. I can't imagine our guys not wanting to see everyone up and enjoying themselves-unless someone is annoying others around them and we all know that Glenn will put a kabash to that right away. No standing but yet could take pictures. Weird! Can't wait to see them.

That is so weird about the roses. A little different from my Hershey's Kisses in that the first guard took them from me immediately and said she would give them to the boys; however, at the time Stars and I were leaving, she was still clutching them in her arms. So I have yet to know if they ever were delivered as promised. No one there ever passed the buck onto a Production Office.

Any recognition of the 3-guitar lineup I asked you about?

Oh crap ev - I knew there was something I forgot to post about. For those of you who don't know what we are referring to, ev took a picture at the Hershey show that she posted in that thread. I asked her what song it was from, but she couldn't remember, so she asked me to check it out on Monday night. The picture is taken during In the City. Tim and Glenn used the same guitars on Monday night as in this picture of ev's. Joe, however, used the same type of guitar, except it was brown and tan. It is the only song that Glenn used that guitar on.

Kay, sounds like you guys had a great time as always! Great review!

It really is too bad that all these venues are being so strict about the roses. In Memphis, the guard in front of the stage told Lynda & me that same thing, that they weren't allowed to put anything on stage, & he made no mention of taking them to the "production office." It is so funny that they refuse to cooperate because when we DID manage to get the roses onstage, the guys were clearly thrilled with them and waved them at the crowd several times.
I just can't figure it out.

Eagles and Deadhead stickers on Cadillacs: It’s OK to look back

HAMPTON—Don Henley’s words carried more than a hint of truth as he sang his brilliant “Boys of Summer” at Monday night’s Eagles show in Hampton.
“Those days are gone forever,“ he sang. “I should just let’ em go.“
But.
He’s not ready to do that just yet, and neither are we.
A crowd largely north of 40 happily retreated for a few hours to their youth as the Eagles took them on a whirlwind musical excursion. The evening covered a lot of ground and left a few fans breathless—but only because they had to hike to the high seats in the neighborhood where I was sitting in the nearly sold out Hampton Coliseum.
Co-founder Glenn Frey has taken to calling the Eagles “the band that would not die.“
He’s right about that. They’ve endured a lot of self-inflicted wounds over the years through hard living and internal squabbling, but the four remaining official Eagles—Henley, Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit—seem in remarkably good shape for guys who’ve passed 60.
The Eagles spent much of last year on the road, touring after releasing their first studio album in 30 years, “Long Road Out of Eden.“ Hampton was their first night back after more than a month off for the holidays. They will tour in the coming months across the United States and Canada, and will head to Europe in the summer.
“Long Road Out of Eden” was rated the No. 1 country album—if you can believe that—on Billboard magazine’s charts for 2008 and the No. 2 rock album. They’ve still got it.
I’ve been an Eagles fan since the early ‘70s when I was in high school and they were turning out “Take It Easy,“ “Already Gone” and any number of other hits. “Hotel California” is still the best album I own. On top of all that, I’ve stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, and I have the picture to prove it.
Despite that, I’d only seen them twice in concert, both since they reunited in the ‘90s. I missed them entirely in the ‘70s, concerts just not being something I did back then. I didn’t expect to see them in Hampton, but my wife and children gave me a ticket for Christmas. With the cheapest tickets at $75 a pop, it was a generous gift.
I was glad to be in Hampton, figuring this could very well be my last chance to see them in person. You have to wonder how much longer they’re willing to stick together and stay on the road. Big money or not, at some point they’ve got to grow weary of it. I mean, I was tired this morning and all I did was sit there and listen.
They played for almost three hours Monday night, rolling through 28 songs—including nine from the new album. The best of the new ones? I’m biased toward “Waiting in the Weeds,“ a hauntingly beautiful Henley song about love lost. But “How Long,“ a remake of a J.D. Souther song, harkens back to the old days, and “Busy Being Fabulous” is top-shelf, too. Henley’s voice makes it so.
I’m also a fan of the title track, Henley’s long (10 minutes), biting, politically inspired number, though it’s not everybody’s cup of chamomile.

I meant to mention this in my review earlier, but forgot about it. However, when I read this quote in a review of the Charlotte show, it reminded me of what I wanted to say:

"And they played too much of “Long Road out of Eden” Wednesday. That was the studio album the Eagles released in 2007."Because we did the seat-sharing at the Hampton show, I was able to make some interesting observations about the fan reactions in the two different sections as I shuffled back and forth. As usual, the floor seats close to the stage had a large number of hardcore fans, whereas the other section where I was sitting for part of the evening had more casual fans. To be honest, it's been a while since I sat in a section with the more casual fans at an Eagles concert, so I didn't have a feel for their reaction to the LROOE material until Monday night. The casual fans seemed to be familiar with and sang along with How Long and to a lesser extent, Busy Being Fabulous. However, they didn't seem to be familiar with the other songs. They listened politely, and actually seemed to be receptive to the new material albeit not overly enthusiastic. I didn't hear any complaints until after the song Long Road Out of Eden. Most of the casual fans watched the video with interest and even applauded the exceptional guitar work. However, when the song ended, I noticed a disparity. While the hardcores were giving a standing ovation, I heard several negative comments from a few of the casual fans. Some that come to mind were “That’s some heavy $hit for a rock concert”, “Thank God – the end”, and “Could that have been any longer”? Obviously, these comments caught my attention and I want to emphasize that most of the casual fans didn’t comment. However, it did make me wonder about how receptive the casual fans really are to all of the new songs in general. I was wondering if anyone else had any observations or thoughts about this.

At the last Tulsa concert i was sitting next to a couple on the floor and i remember when Waiting In The Weeds started, the women turned to her husband and asked him what the song was. He seemed to be a little more familiar with the new cd than she did and told her it was from the new album. They seemed to be pretty receptive of the new songs but to back up what Dreamer said, it's easier to be more receptive when your sitting on the floor section with the guys right in front of you.

About a month ago, i was talking with a customer at work about the Eagles and I was having to talk him into trying out the new album. He didn't think that the new material could stand up to the classics. I told him to give it a chance and that he might be surprised about how great it is. I hope he took my advice.

I can understand what Dreamer said. I have to say I don't like every new song on the album and I hope I don't fall asleep while they are playing Long Road Out Of Eden. EF, i think you'd be surprised about how great LROOE is in concert. I wasn't that big of a fan of the song either until I saw it performed live. Now it's one of my favorites on the album. Don's vocals are great and Joe is simply amazing on the guitar solo.

I agree with all of you. Personally, I love the version on the album, but I think the live version with the video and guitars is even more incredible. However, I do understand how long and intense it may seem in a live show for someone who isn't familiar with the song.

The same could be said for the other new songs as well. For example, Waiting In the Weeds is obviously loved by the hardcore fans, but it just seemed to get a luke warm reception among the casual fans.

The song is pretty long but in concert i hardly noticed. There's so much going on with the video screen, the lights, Don's vocals, and Joe's guitar work that I didn't really notice the length of the song. Actually, seeing it live makes me want the song to go on longer because of how spectacular it is hear and see live.

I obviously can't comment yet on the reaction to the new songs. If it were up to me they'd be playing more new songs, not fewer. I cannot wait to see LROOE, Somebody, WITW and HL live, but I believe the choice of Tim and Joe's inferior songs is downright wrong. Sadly, I don't believe there will be any changes made, including what I most want, which is for Glenn to sing a couple more (I keep forgetting I am supposed to count NMCD, which is the only one of these songs I have seen live).

I agree, Dreamer. While I agree with FP that I would also rather hear the other songs, calling any song inferior is harsh. I must add here FP, that while I sometimes agree with your assessments, I don't often agree with how you present them.

I meant that I think that Tim should be doing Do Something and Joe should be doing Last Good Time In Town. In my opinion those are far superior songs to the songs from the album they have chosen to do. Therefore GOTC and IDWTHAM are 'inferior' in my opinion to the songs they are not playing.

As for how I present my arguments I apologise.

Joe has covered his friend Frankie Miller's GOTC before. Miller's been recovering from a massive stroke or some medical problem for a long time. Joe said in an interview recently he was covering the song again so Miller could get the royalty $$, which would be a tremendous help to his friend.

I also think Joe maybe relates to some of the lyrics.
"You're looking at the brand new me" and "I'm like a total stranger knockin' at yer door."

A couple good reasons to add the song to the album IMO.:)

If GOTC goes down well live, that is fine. I have not seen it and I am therefore not qualified to comment. I can only think that it works better live than it does on the record. I'm the way EF is about the title track. I hope that clarifies this. I had no intention of offending anybody.
