View Full Version : No video for the Allnighter

I was just looking at my singles page, and I realized that The Allnighter was the only major single he released that didn't have a video (the others - All Those Lies, That Girl, and River of Dreams - seem to all be afterthought singles that didn't even get true picture sleeves). I wonder what the deal was there? Maybe they only had the budget for two videos, so they just did Sexy Girl and Smuggler's Blues? It's still odd that they released the title track as a single but didn't make a video for it. Wouldn't a video for the Allnighter have been HOT? Wasted opportunity, lol.

I didn't know The Allnighter was released as a single. However. There was also no video for Heartache Tonight.http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif

Are you sure there was never an Allnighter video? Maybe it turned out so PG13, it just couldn't be shown where impressionable eyes may have viewed it and had inappropriate thoughts put in their head! (ie. dreamer)

lol! Maybe Molly. ;) I still can't believe that oversight of Heartache Tonight, the best and most rockin' song on that album.

Leaving aside the quality of Heartache Tonight - it was the first single. It went to #1 and eventually won a Grammy. Yet they did three other videos for the album. I suppose they did them after HT had gone to #1 because they were all done at the same time.

Only, dreamer, that you'd be spending your days watching the video on a continuous loop, and you would never be compelled as to seek gainful employment ever ever again!

Ahem...to a director, this so sounds like a challenge. ;)

I think I've just figured out what my test project will be when my videographer roomie begins training me on Final Cut Pro in January... ;) Some stock footage of Glenn making the sex face, perhaps some new shots of the "lonely girl", and some creative editing...! ;)

Seriously, this TOTALLY would've been a hot video. No fair Glenn! ;)

(P.S. I am still alive, I swear, I'm just never online!!!)

My friend and I: "Nice coat Glenn!"

Joe Walsh, at next pause between songs: "Hey, nice coat, Glenn."

Glenn: "Thanks, thanks...yah, I picked this up at the..Liberace garage sale, glad you like it..." ;)

Well Bree - good luck with making a video of the Allnighter. I actually have created my own personal little video visuals of the Allnighter that I play over and over again in my little head.

As far as no video for Heartache Tonight, I forgot to comment on that earlier. I can guess a couple of reasons for not making one. One thing is that in the late '70's, MTV was in its infancy, and I don't think VH1 even existed yet, so videos were just beginning to catch on. The original intent may have been not to do any videos from The Long Run, but they later decided they needed to since MTV was becoming so popular. I also remember that in the beginning, artists would only do a video of one song on an album, and often times it wasn't the biggest hits. I don't know if this is what happened with The Long Run or not, but it would be a great question for someone to ask Glenn in an interview. http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif

Interesting, Kay. Maybe HT was already a hit, and they figured the other two needed more promotion.

Yah see...the problem wouldn't be making the video, not at all. It'd be keeping it clean!!! ;)

Much as I like The Allnighter I'd like to see videos of a couple of songs which were never performed live - I refer to my old favourites Let's Go Home and A Walk In The Dark. The mind boggles. http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif

Good grief - I'd give my eye teeth to see him do I've Got Mine and River of Dreams live. I know he's done these live - but not when I was there. :(

I may have said this before but the only solo songs I have EVER seen were THIO, YBTTC and Smuggler's Blues. That's it.

Julie, I know it sucks that you've only seen those three, but perhaps you can take some small comfort in the fact that you were one of the few people who got to see him perform live in 1988. That's pretty special!
