View Full Version : Love in the 21st Century - Mature content!

I got a tape of videos off of Ebay which was contained this one, and when I received it in the mail today, it had the video marked as "Containing mature content not for minors." I guess I can see why!

Anyway, I converted it to high-quality mpeg (for a VHS transfer) and linked it from here: www.glennfreyonline.com/s...entury.htm (http://www.glennfreyonline.com/solo/moviestv/21stcentury.htm)

I would definately say that the song has mature content and a lot of innuendos.

I didn't notice anything extra - should I have done? The problem with it is because he looks so different I find it hard to enjoy, much as I love the song.

No, I don't think there was anything different - I just thought it was interesting that something of Glenn Frey's got labelled "Mature content." But again I can see why! The more carefully I watch the video the dirtier I feel!

I've had a chance to watch it at last. It's pretty steamy, isn't it? There are bits I hadn't noticed before... As for Glenn's characters - is he really that sinister looking priest?

Dang, he looks freaky. The only pic of Glenn totally devoid of hotness!

I was just talking to Kay on the phone about this last night. At first I just looked at Glenn and thought the video was a bit risque but not too bad, even funny. Then I started noticing all those milisecond cutaways and they get pretty nasty and degrading. I can't enjoy the video anymore, sad to say. I realize he was trying to make a point, but still.

That is true Soda - like I said, I can understand why it was labeled for mature audiences. It's not my favorite video by far, but IMO, it is making a point and is probably the best of all of his Strange Weather videos in terms of how effectively it delivers the message. Whether or not you like the message is a whole 'nother story. http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif

You think so? "I've Got Mine" is a lot more heavy-handed, that's for sure. POMPOY has no message at all. Ironically, his Strange Weather videos as a whole are less effective than many of his earlier efforts, IMHO.

You can look at this in several ways. I think 21st Century as a video is possibly more effective than the NFA videos, which have dated horribly (I know we get gooey over TOYL but really, it's incredibly corny). It would have been better if he had not changed his appearance, which I find the most offputting aspect of it, far more than what else occurs in it.

The I've Got Mine video succeeds in making the song boring, which should not have been possible. As for POMPOY, it's a wonderful opportunity wasted.

I think TOYL, while dated in some ways, is still highly effective artistically. The only thing that perhaps is a bit over the top is using the wind during the dancing scene. lol I agree that I Found Somebody isn't all that, though.

I'm not sure how much control he had over POMPOY. The movie company wanted the music video to be an ad for Thelma and Louisa, and probably they were responsible for its

As far as I've Got Mine, it's probably one of my all time favorite solo songs. As good as the song is, IMO, the video just doesn't do a real good job at telling the story. I also agree that POMPOY is a waste of film. If they really wanted the video to promote the film, they could have shown more of the hot male (no, not Brad Pitt).

And also, there's one pretty horrific piece of editing in that POMPOY video - they show the guy grabbing Louise with the intention of raping her while Glenn is singing "You and I will always be together..." WTH?!

Agreed wholeheartedly with the I've Got Mine comments...that video bothers me SO MUCH because it was one of the first songs that ever gave me so much inspiration for a music video idea that I had to abandon the walk I just started and run home and get on my computer and write it all down. It had so much potential, and that is absolutely one of my favorite solo songs! POMPOY...yah...Nancy...that little editing mishap...*extremely* unfortunate. I highly doubt she wanted to 'always be together' in that particular scene!!!

As for Love In The 21st Century, I'm going to have to rewatch this, because when I saw it before I was still riding Glenn Concert High and I don't think I noticed the millisecond cutaways, or otherwise they haven't remained in my memory. Freaky picture, though, dear Lord!

My friend and I: "Nice coat Glenn!"

Joe Walsh, at next pause between songs: "Hey, nice coat, Glenn."

Glenn: "Thanks, thanks...yah, I picked this up at the..Liberace garage sale, glad you like it..." ;)

It would be very interesting to see what sort of screenplay you would have come up with for 'I've Got Mine', Bree.

As for 'Love In The 21st Century', I think it fulfils what it intended to do, in pointing out how the quest for love can be debased into a sordid world of loveless sex. It's not a comfortable video at all, although I can see some humour, and I still love the song.
