I love this video:

The One You Love.

YouTube also has his Pepsi commercial, You Belong to the City (although not as high quality) and the segment of Miami Vice where YBTTC is played. Worth checking out! They are only for streaming, though, not downloading, so dial-up users may have trouble. I let it stream once with stops and starts, then play it again and it usually plays through just fine.

After watching this:

The Pepsi Commercial

I have to be honest. While the end was funny, otherwise it was kind of lame.

I've never seen the Pepsi commercial. I really have no wish to see it.Well, it might be worth a peek just to see what it's like! Of course, if you'd rather not, it's your choice. Unfortunately we don't get a really clear shot of Glenn. There are only a few very shadowy and brief flashes of his face as he and Don Johnson drive around Miami and we hear playing over the car radio, to the music of YBTTC, a new set of lyrics about Pepsi. I do agree that the end is cute.

I just peeked at the Pepsi commercial. Well, first of all it's YBTTC, which I like. There is a quick glimpse of a proflile - I like it too, but until you had pointed it out, L&M, I hadn't spotted the moustache. Best thing is hearing his voice!

True, Kate. For some reason, when he has that moustache with short hair and/or without any stubble or beard, he looks.... I don't know... almost like a different person! I guess if he did it for the movie they were TRYING to make him look like a different person, though. lol Indeed it worked. Strange what such a little change can do!

http://www.glennfreyonline.com/images/GFreyLGH.jpg

Perhaps the long hair diffuses it somehow and makes it look part of "the package." lol

Nancy, I know what you're saying, but as I said, I just look at him. She isn't there, as far as I am concerned, except that I am imagining it's me. That is the only purpose she serves.

Compare this video with Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark where he drags Courteney Cox (as she then was) up on stage and it's all so narcissistic and isn't Springsteen wonderful. In this the girl is lonely and the singer just wants to make her feel better. I say 'the singer' because Glenn is playing a role here as much as anyone else.

sodascouts
04-21-2006, 08:36 PM
Hmm, interesting, you think he was just taking pity on her because she has such a loser boyfriend? I thought he took her onstage with him because she was so obviously smitten. I like your explanation better.

How I love to overthink. ;)

In True Love there is no ultimate gain, just a response to a young lonely girl who has obviously found a hero to worship. (And still has the self control to take her two gawky friends back home safely)

You can use this to download them: keepvid.com/ (http://keepvid.com/) . Just follow the directions. They'll be .flv files (Flash Video) which means you'll also need to download the player, but it's also free.

I tried a few times to covert the .flv file to .mpg or .avi so that I could work with it in other programs, but the loss of quality was so noticeable I gave up on it. Still, I'm glad to be able to download them in any form. Sometimes videos will be pulled from YouTube and gone forever otherwise - most recently, I noticed that happened to the Henley video Johnny Can't Read.

(Slightly off topic)

I turned on VH1 Classic this morning right at the beginning of the Soul Searchin' video. I was totally amazed. I've only seen ASWTDID before -- never any of the guys' solo stuff and never any Eagles. It's really amazing given that I have it on every morning as I get ready for work. It's also amazing considering the number of really bad videos that they do choose to show.

The kiss is definately worth viewing more than once. Is it the only Glenn kiss we have on film?

I love the look on his face when the girl first walks up and Glenn decides to make a move on her. And then at the end when he is leaving the bar with "the love of his life" (or is it a one night stand), how he checks out the other girl. That video definately tells a story about the way things happened "back in the day."

I promise I didn't make it up. I never heard of it or saw anything about it afterwards and always wondered what happened. It didn't seem just for the end of the show (I'm thinking it was Entertainment Tonight, seems like Leeza Gibbons was hosting: that's how long ago it was).

Anyway...a lot has happened since then. Maybe I dreamed it. :)
It's been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it. The whole "let's just leave this mess behind and find some peace" aspect appeals, you know?

I was listening to the Tokyo 1992 version where he talks about getting away from the concrete canyons and uses his line from Dublin 'it's always nice to have some nature in your life' - although I confess when he says that other thoughts seem to intrude. :shy:

It's a great performance of Smugglers Blues, isn't it? It's from the concert Glenn did in Dublin in 1992. He recorded it live on video for MCA, 'Strange Weather - Live In Dublin', and it's the basis of his 'Live' cd. Neither are available commercially now, although you can still find them on eBay. A very kind person gave me the video some time ago, and I've watched it rather a lot! 8)

You talked about saving ROD. How can you save videos from youtube? :?

glenneaglesfan
07-12-2007, 03:33 PM
EF, there are free programs out there that can save YouTube videos in a file format called .flv. I use this one:

http://keepvid.com/

You will need a .flv player. This site has one you can download. You copy the url of the YouTube video you want and paste it into the space indicated, then click download. A new message comes up below, which has a Download link. Click this and a pop-up should appear saying do you want to run or save this program. Choose save, then rename the file as you want, but remember to add .flv at the end (eg. River of Dreams.flv). Click save, and it should save to My Computer in the downloads folder (or wherever you wish to save it to).

Good luck!

Yes, thanks indeed Soda for providing the links and GEF for explaining how to download them. I've also managed to purchase for about $30/£20/€somewhere in between, an Applian Replay Converter. It allows you to convert these videos into wmv and other formats which can be downloaded onto ipod or other media players. As it appears to have worked for ROD and SG for me this evening I consider it a sound investment. :D SKOB is next! Now I'm heading off to watch LID! :D :D :D

Its called a replay converter and its from Applian Technologies. It can convert files into AVI, WMV, MPEG-4 video, PSP Portable video (compact and high Quality) ipod video, Mobile 3GP, and Flash video. Most files can be done over a range of qualities. (I don't even know the difference between most of these formats myself! I just play around until I find something that works!). I don't even know how I came by it. I had downloaded the flash player from the site and has downloaded Sexy Girl in Flash video form. But it wouldn't transfer to the ipod. A pop up came in advertising a free trial of it and I tried it out with SG which it converted 90 seconds of, then told me I'd have to buy it for the rest. It has already worked out ok as I have converted 3 of Glenn  's videos to a format I can carry around with me on the ipod (I feel great carrying Glenn  around with me :D ). I intend doing more. Soda let me know if I can try to do them for the site, and :D upload them. I'll try if I can :D

I haven't heard that song in years, but remember it, and I think I'm going to check out a Bob Seger CD one of these days!

I had to download the slideshow before I could watch it, as I just couldn't get into YouTube properly! I managed at least to get the link to show, and did the necessary. Well, now it's mine! :D Thank you SO much for posting this masterpiece!

That is absolutely wonderful, Soda. I wonder if Bob Seger had a clue what Glenn was destined to become when he wrote that song about him. It is appropriate though because even though the street-smart kid from Detroit grew up to be a rock 'n' roll legend, in many ways he does appear to be still the same.

Glad you guys liked it! I was originally going to do "Still the Same" for just 80s pics because I had done another slide show for 70s Glenn using "Help Me," but dreamer persuaded me to chuck that idea and just use this one for the whole lifetime!

FP, I realize Glenn was already a big star when Bob Seger wrote and recorded the song. However, what I was alluding to is that he had achieved superstardom at the time, but still not the iconic, legendary status that he has now. Although, I didn't state it very clearly, that was precisely my point. Glenn and the Eagles had achieved unimaginable success after Hotel California. I'm sure at the time, they thought they had reached their pinnacle. However, even at that, I don't think anyone could have predicted the enduring impact of their music, and that they would still be one of the biggest, most successful bands in the world 30 years later.

Nancy, that is absolutely wonderful! :smitten: :D Thank you. What a great selection of pictures, and set to a song written about our hero.

Dreamer, that is so true about Glenn's (and the others') iconic status thirty years on. And to think that until my 'rebirth' two years ago I didn't even know the Eagles were still around, and now look at them, set to release a new album, looking as fit and in as good a voice as ever.

OK, I did another of Glenn, just from the 70s set to "Help Me" by Joni Mitchell which she wrote about him. The reason I just did the 70s, even though it was not his hottest era, was that it seemed more appropriate to the song to stay limited to the wild days. ;)

Help Me is better than the other song she wrote about Glenn, Car On A Hill, also from the Court And Spark album. Neither of them rank as her best songs (I recommend the Hejira album).

Willy, from Ladies Of The Canyon, is about Graham Nash, and that isn't much of a song either. Better 'Joni's fraught relationship' songs are The Last Time I Saw Richard, from Blue, and Coyote and Blue Motel Room, from Hejira.

"This Way To Happiness": :inlove:   (Yep, I was still trying to get over the rush from "The Allnighter", and then this one just melted my heart. Soda, your pics are so well placed in certain areas. For example: Glenn  sings "...the highway to freedom..." and a pic of him and Cindy on a highway in their car features. So clever!)

"You Are Not Alone":   (This is the first time I've heard this song, and I was nearly in tears. It's so beautifully sung, and so heartfelt, I just wanted to hug Glenn . What a wonderfully attentive and caring father he is. It goes without saying that the photos are stunning - Glenn  is still so breathtakingly handsome.)

When I was making "The Allnighter" with all those... um.... suggestive phrasings and noises, I was like, "I hope nobody under 18 views this!" lol

His vocal on "This Way to Happiness" has always blown me away, especially that part where he goes, "I've been searching for what seems like forever now!" It's such an uplifting song. It always makes me smile.

I spent the most time on "You Are Not Alone." I was worried about not doing the song justice, but I tried the best I could.

I feel the same way as you do. I thought it was sweet how Glenn kind of gathers them around, but at the same time - well, I wish the camera could've gotten all three of them more from the front: The "backers" are the Little River Band whom he was performing with.

At the end when they pull back and you can see his whole torso - a fine musical moment, that. ;)

I don't know if this belongs here, but I found it adorable:

Awww...that was so cute!
I guess Glenn had to give his permission to use his song--I wonder what his kids think? I bet they love it.

They weren't alive when this first aired - but if they saw it later when they were little (obviously one still is little), I bet they got a kick of it.

Soda, the Chipmunks cover is cute. My boys used to love that programme!

As for that PFO one, I echo Fp... thank you! The quality may not be great, but his voice is superb. What a privilege.
