He's not giving anyone much time to think about these shows is he.

This is unbelievable to me. I mean, these guys looked weary in Indy! I figured they would take the time to wind down and decompress, but I guess he is taking a little time off!

That is definitely Peekaboo territory, that lucky girl! Wish I could travel out there to see him with her.

I am a little surprised at this too. I must admit I never thought Don would schedule solo dates in the middle of an Eagles tour, unless it was to benefit Walden Woods or something. But if he IS doing this, I really wish he would come someplace closer to me, like Atlanta.

Maleah

At this point I'm willing to travel anywhere in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Montana, Wisconsin, Winnipeg, maybe even Nebraska......who knows what lengths I would actually go to! :P

WOOO HOOO!!!!!:partytime:

I was just getting ready for bed after a long night of work when I got a text from me and DF's mutual friend about this. WE ARE SOOOO THERE!!!! Just when I was all bummed out about not getting to go the Kansas City concert this past saturday and thinking that the Columbia concert was gonna be my last time, I recieve the best news ever to cheer me up. I was even thinking about going to his florida concert on May 14. Now i'll only have to make the 2 hour drive to Thackerville. I've been there before. It's a really nice casino. I've already made a call to Winstar and they told me that the tickets will be going on sale April 13. Too bad I don't work there.

It is surprising that Don is doing these solo dates when you'd think he'd want to rest, but the thing is - these casinos make it worth their while. Also, as opposed to a regular tour, casino shows are generally pretty short - about 90 minutes - and require minimal prep and rehearsal time since all of these songs have been done a million times before (unless he breaks out something new like Glenn did in Niagara Falls). So you fly out there, get yourself a nice comped hotel room and meals, spend a day or two rehearsing, play an hour and a half to an undemanding casino crowd (many of whom were comped and don't even really care who's playing), and go home with $150,000 or so. Not bad! And once you've worked up a show for one casino, might as well play it again at another casino and make double the money without that much extra effort.

Since OK is next door to Don's home in Texas, he probably wouldn't be away from home but 2 days. Not a bad pay check. Smart man

Wouldn't it?! Sadly, on this occasion, I just can't. Unless I have a sudden windfall.

BUT, this has given me hope. And ideas. I'm saving my money, and if any similar shows pop up a few months down the line, I will have no qualms about coming! It would be incredible.

Troub, I am in the same situation as you. I reeeeeeeeally want to go but there is no spare $$$ for travel right now. This is encouraging, though---maybe he will add a date or two out my way. I could drive to the casinos in Biloxi or Tunica......

And Jess---I am so :jealous: of you and our mutual friend! I know it will be a blast!

Maleah
03-30-2009, 06:42 PM
Let us know plenty in advance Troub! Maybe a few of us could make the same show as you! ;)

And btw, I'm in the same shape as both of you. :( I just don't have the cash for a long trip like that right now. A friend and I are thinking about going to see Bryan Adams in Minnesota.....but that's not nearly as expensive a trip as it would be to head down to OK or FL for Don. :(

I called the casino again today to make sure I had the correct date on when the tickets would be going on sale and to find out the ticket prices. The day I found out about this concert I called and they told me that the tickets would go on sale on April 13. Today I called and they told me that it would be on April 23. The lady told me that Don had requested that tickets go on sale 3 weeks before the concert date. I wonder why that is. I asked the lady on the phone and she didn't know either, she just said that that is what he had requested.

Another thing that I found out (and this really bugs me) is that the lady told me that the first 8 rows would be the v.i.p. seats and that about half of those would be saved as comps for their regular customers. I understand that there are customers that spend tons of money and get their meals, hotel rooms, and concerts comped because I see it happen at the casino that i work at but sometimes I can't believe that someone that just lost thousands of dollars can ask a pit boss for tickets to any concert they want AND GET THEM. I guess i'm just kind of freaking out because I don't want to miss out on the good seats for this show because Joe Rich over here has the big bucks and can just ask for the tickets and get them before me or any other regular Joe. Sorry, i'm done with my rant now.

Given that's the case, and we see Don making plans for at least the 3 shows posted on The Border, why can't Glenn follow suit? It seems like a great idea to me, no? But, once again, maybe start out at those casinos out East...

04-05-2009, 08:59 PM
I hear ya, Peek. That sucks! I'm surprised it's 8 rows, though. I thought usually only the first 3-5 rows were comped at casinos. You'd know more about that than I do, though!

Yeah, casinos seem to be the way to go for rockers once they reach a certain age because they're so much easier. Who knows, maybe Glenn will hit a couple, too. If so, he'd better hurry up and schedule them! We need to make some plans!

Don't be sorry Peek. It's completely understandable. When I logged in here and saw the announcement of his show in Miami I only had an hour to prepare my bank account before presale tickets. I managed to get a seat in the 19th row or row S even though it only took me until 5:05pm to receive my confirmation of purchase. And as of now have less than 6 wks for the Hard Rock Live show. Not complaining just was a little winded from getting details in order in that small amount to time.

Glad he's doing these shows cause I was sure January 28th was gonna be the only time I was gonna have a chance to see him perform.

If Glenn follows suit maybe he'll give people a little more time to breathe..lol.

You have a legitimate gripe if you ask me Peek!! I've stated my opinion in the past about this VIP stuff!!! I'm sorry a ticket should be a ticket and should go to ANYONE willing to pay for it (or in other words---the TRUE fans-not just some guy who thinks he should get special seats because he dropped a few K at the tables-and probably isn't that much of a fan anyways!)

Sorry about the rant! JMHO!!!!

I was surprised about that too. But it doesn't seem fair for the comped seats to be up front. Maybe somewhere in the middle but not right up front. I agree with Willie that the tickets should go to TRUE fans.

I guess this could be because i'm so paranoid about missing the date that the tickets go on sale, I called WinStar again today and now they tell me that the tickets will be going on sale this Saturday. Good thing I called because last time I called they told me that the tickets would go on sale on April 23. I'm sure i'm still gonna be in freak out mode till I actually get the tickets.

I'd love to see a Don Henley solo show. I was hoping he'd maybe do some after the Eagles tour was over. That would give me time to save up some cash to pop over to the US again, and see one of his shows. Can't do it now as I've spent all my spare cash on some Eagles shows on this side of the Atlantic.

Lucky you, Peekaboo. Give my love to Will Hollis(he's sure to be there with Don) and have a great time.

I've somehow managed to refrain from posting this until everything was purchased, but...

I'M FLYING TO THE STATES TO SEE DON IN BOTH OKLAHOMA SHOWS!!!!

I am so freaking excited. Peekaboo has kindly offered to put me up, so I'll be flying out on the 13th May (a few days after my birthday!) and travelling to the shows on the 16th and 17th with her. A few factors came together at the right time, and I just thought why the hell not! I've wanted to visit the States for years and seeing Don solo was too good an opportunity to miss. It's going to be the best birthday present ever. The flights were cheap, too!

Jess has managed to get me a 3rd row seat in the premier section for the WinStar show! I'll be sat on my tod, but I don't care! This is all beyond my wildest dreams. She'll have the unique privilege (ahem) of being with me when I see Mr. Henley for the first time. Lots of hand-holding and tissues will be needed, I think!

I can hardly believe I'm posting this. Nancy... Can't persuade you to join us? ;)

I second that!!!!

The first (and only) Don solo concert I went to was at an outdoor venue (the Zoo Ampitheater in OKC). It was a little hot outside during the opening act but by the time Don got on stage the sun was already going down. I just hope that it doesn't rain the night of the outdoor concert on the 16th. But that doesn't mean that I won't be there if it does. I have some ponchos ready just in case.

As far as I know, there's no opening act for either of the upcoming Oklahoma shows. The last time I saw him in concert (Aug. 5, 2007) his opening act was Lucinda Williams. I had never heard any of her music before that and I thought she sounded pretty good.

I hope Lou has some good MP3s, a couple of LONG novels and some good inflight movies! I can just barely handle a 2.5 hour flight to Las Vegas!

Dang, WHEN is that concert? I "Streets & Trip" it and it's only 168 miles from Wichita. 3 hours. I've really been wanting to meet Jess anyway. Nah, I can't do it. But HOW BADLY I want to!

Ack, those long flights are murder! I remember the flight to Saudi Arabia being 17 hours and if you were unfortunate enough to be in the middle of the aisle, you could go stir crazy fast! But I think her flight back will be a lot harder than the flight over. Right now, she's probably so excited the time will fly!

I so wish I could be there. I was thisclose to going, but I just need to save my money. I know the girls will have a terrific time!

Every long and boring hour of that flight will be worth it! I'm so happy for her, she is going to have such a great time at the concerts. Hears hoping she has a safe trip.

I love the experience of flying, but not the flight time itself. I went to South Africa a year and a half ago, and the in air time was 22 hours. 26 hours total. It was all I could do to keep my sanity. Hopefully she has plenty of Eagle/Henley music to keep her occupied.

MikeA
05-13-2009, 01:21 PM
I pray that this will not have any impact on ANY of you, but I'm so old school that it does severely impact my ability to fly.

I think all airlines now are smoke free. On our last trip to Las Vegas, the Cabin Supervisor was making announcements at the beginning of the trip and made the obligatory statement that no smoking and no tobacco products including oral substances (snuff, chewing tobacco, etc) were allowed.

I couldn't help but wonder if that also included the Nicotine Patches since they obviously contain the addictive substance that makes smoking such a horrible habit to overcome.

As for me, anything longer than a flight to Las Vegas would require that my seat be located out on the wing! I simply cannot fathom a flight of 13 hours. I'd be "Postal" long before the flight ended.

Got a text from Lou about 2 hours ago to say she had just landed in Dallas. That would have made it a 10 hour flight, assuming her plane left on time. The extra 3 hours could refer to the 3 hour check in ot to her post flight travel time perhaps.

WAY TO GO LOU!!!!!!!

Enjoy every minute girls

Appreciate the sentiment and consideration Jess, But I wouldn't have been able to go. We were out in Las Vegas....or getting ready to go there, or we were on the way back <LOL>.

Still, I'd sure like to get together with you one of these weekends. Maybe over a table if there are any no-ante promotions! Small chance of that in Oklahoma in most establishments. If not, I could just back-count and help the other players who are paying $.50 a hand. Y'all wouldn't mind that would you? LOL (cracking myself up here!)

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd post my own little message... Thanks for thinking of me while I was travelling! Luckily, everything went smoothly, and I arrived at OKC hot and sweaty, but very excited. Jess and I are listening to a bit of Don (surprise surprise!) before we head out to do a bit of veggie shopping and to grab a few drinks. I was exhausted earlier, but I think the adrenalin is keeping me going now. I can't believe I'm in the States, let alone seeing Don on Saturday! Jess has given me a quick drive-by tour of some areas in OKC and Norman, and we got a couple of huge sodas from Sonic (which I glugged most of!) She is so, so lovely and I know we're going to have so much fun these few days. I won't want to leave!

We'll keep you updated on what we get up to ;)

Despite the crazy, almost tornado weather, Lou and I had a nice evening. We had dinner and a few drinks and lots of conversations regarding the guys. Lou is a very sweet person and so easy to talk to. It's like we are old friends catching up. We were back at my place and got so wrapped up in our conversation about Don and the rest of the guys that we weren't even paying attention to the weather. I got a phone call from my mom telling me to turn on the tv because we were in a tornado warning. As we were checking out the weather on tv the tornado sirens were going off. Although I was freaking out on the inside, I remained calm on the outside. Lou was completely cool about the whole thing and thought of it as an adventure. I, on the other hand, was holding two flashlights and making phone calls to my family and friends checking on the weather in their area. Everything turned out okay. No tornados around here (thank goodness). Now both of use are ready for a good nights rest. Lou is tired out from her travels today and i'm going on less than two hours of sleep. As long as the weather is good tomorrow, we are going to travel south and go to Mt. Scott. I haven't been up the mountain in years and I thought it would be a good chance for Lou to see a bit of the Oklahoma landscape. I'm sure we'll have more to post tomorrow after we both get all rested up.

Troub and Peek, I am really enjoying your posts--it is almost like I am there with you, and since I have flown to OK for a Don show, I know what that is like! Have a fabulous time at Don's show! I REALLY wish I could be one of the lucky ladies seeing one of his solo shows this round!

Troub, here is a small word of advice that I also told FFL on the other Don solo show thread: of course we want you to take a few notes at the show so you can tell us every detail, but I want you to really enjoy every minute without worrying about notes or pictures. When the show starts and he is right in front of you, you will get so totally caught up in the moment that you tend to forget most everything else. Believe me-I know from experience!

So, enjoy yourself, have a terrific time, and write your review for us later when you have come down from cloud nine!

I'm just taking the opportunity while Jess is showering to post! We're both rested and refreshed, and more than ready for Don. We're going for a manicure and pedicure today, then heading to Lawton to see Jess's cousin and her daughters. The tornado warning was an experience last night! I think my "adventure" theory came from excessive tiredness (delirium) mixed with a strawberry dacquiri and a couple of beers. I'm secretly glad I didn't get to put my tipsy bravado to the test ;)

The shows are getting so close now, I can't wait. Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Is kinda weird for "me" to be forming these kinds of friendships....I mean, I don't share then same type of fascination with the Eagles as do you and because of social propriety, would likely not become friends with the most of you.....but vicariously through the Internet, it is a very great privilege to count you all as "Friends".

What I have found is that among "forum friendships" those formed through media that promotes "MUSIC" seem to bring together those who have an inclination to take the "universal language" to the next level. I think it would be odd indeed were friendships NOT formed under such circumstances.

Thank you Nancy for providing one of the Best Forums for encouraging such relationships. It is a lot of work. I know from experience and your efforts are very much appreciated.

Hey Mike, don't be so quick to discount us all as friends in real life---um, I mean, in person.
