Can I remind Don that we have plenty of casinos in Atlantic City (none of which I have been to, but that will be easily rectified once he announces a concert date at any one of them!)

Oh man, ev - now did ya haveta go and remind me about when Don played at the Borgata a couple of years ago, and I wasn't able to make the trip! I've regretted it ever since, and thought that I may not have any other chance to see him solo. It would be awesome if he would play up there again, but I'm not counting on it.

And, let's not forget SoCal either. We have more casinos than you can shake a tommie-hawk at. Looks like all the sixties rockers are playing casinos and that's fine with me as most of the venues are small and good seats easy to get-at least here in SoCal.

And you know Dreamer, I've never quite gotten over the fact that you didn't invite me...you left me totally in the dark about Don performing right in my own backyard! How could you??

(In reality, I must have been comatose not to have realized it on my own. One of my most "Concert-Unaware" moments, I must say.:-()

Hmm, i've never heard of this casino before. I checked out the site and it looks pretty nice. It looks to be about 4 hours from me but i'm thinking that I may just have to make a weekend out of it. A weekend with Don Henley....Oh yeah, now that sounds like a great time!!

Okay, i've decided to go for it and make it to this concert afterall. Tickets go on sale in the morning so hopefully i'll get lucky and be able to get some good seats.

Excellent! I'm considering going, too (it's about a 9 hr drive - doable for me, lol). Do you know what time tickets go on sale?

ETA: Duh, just saw on the site it's 10:00 am!

Hmm, wait a minute here...I just realized that this is all an extension of that Eagles-Missouri connection...now a Don-Oklahoma connection?!! Hey, Brooke...Peek...what've you gals got growin' out there that attracts our boys like white on rice? :weep::wink:
(I admit I had to look at a map to see that little corner those two states are connected by---obviously an important flyway for Eagles migration!)

Regardless, good luck with the tix, Peek!

I called yesterday and they confirmed that tickets go on sale at 10am central time. I'm not sure about the prices though. The lady I spoke with said that the prices weren't posted yet. But it was in the morning when i talked to her so they may be posted by now. That would be great if you can make it Soda!!! Let me know if you'll be heading to the Sooner State.

Ev, if only I really knew what attracts the guys this way. I understand Don doing the solo shows around here since he lives in Dallas. Dallas is less than a 2 hour drive from his WinStar Casino concert next month. I wish he'd drive about an hour and a half north of WinStar and come to the casino that I work at. Maybe that's asking too much...i'm just happy that he's coming back to Oklahoma.

Oh, believe me, that does cross my mind more than you know. I'll be making many trips to Dallas soon because one of my cousin's that i'm really close too is moving there at the end of the month.

I got 12th row tickets. The lady on the phone wasn't very helpful so I ended up getting better seats online. Of course i would love to be much closer but I'll take what I can get. 12th row is still good and it's still 2 nights in a row of Don Henley concerts. A weekend with Don Henley *SIGH* It's gonna be so great!!

You gonna be making it to this show, Soda?

Well, it looks like it's not going to turn out for me after all at this point. It was a nice idea, though! lol

At least The Border will be represented. Have a blast on behalf of all of us!

You guys don't have long now until your solo concerts! I can't wait to read your report and find out what is on Don's set list! Wonder if he will throw in some surprises like he did that summer in Dallas & OKC?

Troubadour
04-27-2009, 01:55 PM
Nope, not long at all, DF! I've been busy doing some last-minute shopping and speculating as to what he'll sing, what he'll be wearing, etc. I'm just about to print off my flight tickets actually (I bought them a week or so ago, but they've only just come through. Talk about raising my heart rate!) I so can't wait. It's going to be incredible.

What surprises did he throw in when you saw him?

Oh, I also forgot to say, as all of my gushing has been in the other thread... Jess managed to get me a ticket in row 11, front center block, for this show! :yay:

Troub, he sang a fabulous new slow version of End of the Innocence that took our breath away. He also sang a ballad by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits called "I'm the Fool," and a David Gray song called "Disappearing World."

I also absolutely lost it when he sang "I Will Not Go Quietly." That was the one solo song I wanted to hear the most, and it ROCKED.

I too am wondering what the set list will be. I love that he covers quite a few songs. I wouldn't mind it if he covers the same songs I heard last time. I think I love his versions of those songs even better. I hope hope hope that he does that same BEAUTIFUL version of End of the Innocence again. **SIGH** And I think I would :faint:if he does Come Rain or Come Shine.

I would SOOO love to hear these songs! One question though...which one of you two girls is going to pick the other one off the floor?? I picture two coalescing puddles of Peekaboo-Troubador mush...

Well, I don't think we'll be much use to each other anyway, as we're in different rows! Here's hoping I have a big, beefy bloke sat next to me (for safety reasons, obviously.) Preferably one that doesn't get freaked out by extreme female hysteria!

Aw Troub, just bat your eyes at your concert neighbor and call him a big beefy bloke to his face and you will have no trouble at all! In fact, you just may make him melt into a puddle!

Oh crap!!! I didn't even think about that. I've just been sooo excited about seeing Don again that I didn't even think about the affects of actually seeing the man. I mentioned in another thread about getting Lou some smelling salts in case she faints but I didn't even think that I may need some for myself.

A stiff drink should do it, Jess. (Hey, this is one birthday that's going to last at least a week!!)

PM... Oh, if only it were that easy! Although I don't think I'd be concentrating my efforts on an audience member, if I had that sort of power... ;)

Everytime I think about it I get a little heart flutter. It's going to be amazing. I only wish I could attend with someone from the board but I will most definately not be thinking about it while I'm mesmerized by a man I've been in love with since forever(figureatively speaking). Heart attack no... but heart melting absolutely positively.

I've kinda been on pins and needles the last couple of weeks because I hadn't gotten the "OK" from my boss about being off next weekend. I've been quietly freaking out about because next weekend is when most graduations are taking place and quite a few people have requested off for that. I can finally breath now because he told me last night at work that I am all good to go  :yay:.

10 more days!!! The 16th needs to hurry up and get here because I'm getting very anxious for the concerts next weekend.

Henley back in Oklahoma
He plays the casino in Quapaw on Saturday

In one of only two solo dates scheduled while on break from touring with the Eagles before heading to Europe, Don Henley will bring his solo show to Oklahoma on Saturday at the Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw.

Tickets to Saturday's show are $100, $80, $60, $40 and $30 for lawn seating, and can be purchased at the Downstream Box Office inside the hotel's gift shop or by calling (918919-6099 or toll-free (888 396-7876; or through Protix online at tulsaworld.com/ProTix, or (866) 977-6849.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. at Downstream's 6,200-seat outdoor concert facility, The Venue. The show begins at 8 p.m.
Henley's made several appearances in Oklahoma over the past year, including the grand opening of the new BOK Center in September with the Eagles, a repeat show there with the Eagles in November, and a solo fundraiser for U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Rice at Cain's Ballroom in September.
It's as if he's making a second home here.
"Well, this isn’t exactly something new," Henley said. "The Eagles and I have been performing in Oklahoma for over 35 years. This latest concentration of shows is just a reflection of the goodwill that we’ve built up there."
Some of that goodwill includes preservation issues, for which the Eagles in general, over the years, and Henley specifically have been noted. "One of my favorite places in Oklahoma is the George M. Sutton Avian Research Center in Bartlesville," Henley said. "The folks there do very important work. They played a critical role in bringing the American bald eagle back from the brink of extinction."
Henley is a fan of the "Tulsa Sound," a blend of rock, blues, country and rockabilly closely associated with artists like Tulsa's own J.J. Cale and Leon Russell. Bob Seger, who co-wrote the Eagles hit "Heartache Tonight" with J.D. Souther, has ties to the Tulsa Sound. However, Henley is quick to clarify that the Eagles band does not consider itself part of that movement.

"I am very familiar with the Tulsa Sound," he said. "I have several J.J. Cale CDs in my personal collection and I have great admiration for the body of work that Leon Russell created, as a songwriter, producer and recording artist. "Carl Radle and Jamie Oldaker and David Teegarden are musical legends, as are the Wilson brothers (of GAP Band fame)."

Jojo,

I hate to bust your bubble, but unfortunately, "sense" hasn't been common for a long time (if ever). <sigh>.
