Over the past few months, there have been issues with fake accounts pretending to be affiliated with the sites showing up places like MySpace (http://www.myspace.com), YouTube (http://www.youtube.com), and now Twitter (http://www.twitter.com). We have been trying to deal with them quietly but they appear to be escalating, so we thought we should make sure everyone is aware of the situation.

This person's M.O. is to create user ids associated with me or the sites like "GlennFreyOnline," "eaglesonlinecentral"," "Nancy K (sodascouts)" etc. and then attempt to friend people / leave comments as me (or, more recently, as Maleah). Usually they will duplicate personal information such as location, age, etc. and in some cases even link to legitimate personal profiles in an attempt to appear more "authentic." So, to clarify:

The only MySpaces currently affiliated with us are the EOC MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/eaglesonlinecentral), the GFO MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/gfonline), the DHO MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/henleyonline), the JWO MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/joewalshonline), and the TBSO MySpace.
The only YouTube channels affiliated with us are the TBSO YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/timothybschmitonline) created for Tim's Song Survivor, and the GFO Video Survivor Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/gfovideosurvivor) created for Glenn's Video Survivor game.
We have two Twitter accounts: The EOC Twitter (http://twitter.com/eaglesonline) and The Border Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/bordertweet). There is no other Twitter affiliated with the sites.

All others sites/users claiming affiliation are frauds. This is also true if you see any account using my full name. Other than Facebook, I have no user ids which are my full name.

If you receive a friends request/follow from someone claiming to be me or anyone from the sites/board, please investigate it before accepting it. At the rate this person is going, odds are it is probably fake. If in doubt, just send me a PM on here. If you have already done so, just block/delete her.

How very sad that there are people who choose to spend so much of their time doing this type of crap! Too bad they can't focus their energy on doing something more positive and productive. Hopefully, reporting them to these sites will remedy the situation.

Wait... You mean the MySpace user I added - nancywantsGFsbaybeez4eva!!1 - ISN'T YOU?

On a serious note, it is sad, and must be endlessly frustrating for you. Thanks for the heads up!

Same here! If someone claiming to be me or with an ID close enough to mine to make you think it is me tries to add you or contact you in anyway......PM me on here and make sure it's me! Hopefully everyone would have known that it wasn't me that commented on the EOC page anyway as that's just not the type of language I use. ;) Although Nancy is pretty stinkin' awesome!

Yeah, I just deleted that comment along with a new, uglier one.

Fun times. ;)

I did receive an alert about Twitter but don't have a clue what it even is so I deleted it. Did you send an alert out about your My Space having a Twitter account now?

I agree with Dreamer, it is sad people have to try to ruin something just because. Will keep watch and let you(?) know if something comes up. So sorry for the extra work and worry this is causing you,Soda and Maleah too.

Thanks for the support guys.

AEF - yes, I did - trying to get the word out! It seems to be working, too, as the number of "Followers" is increasing. Thanks again!

I am so sorry about this, but it is one of the reasons why I haven't joined any of these sites and won't be joining the EOC ones.

I don't think having one of these pages stops or starts anything FP. I dont even know if Soda had a personal twitter account before one was made to impersonate her. But I refuse to let them bother me. If they lead such a boring life that they get enjoyment from pretending to me or attempting to harrass me then, if anything, I feel extremely sorry for them. lol I have more important things to worry about. ;) And anyone who KNOWS me, knows that I would never say the things that they've said as "me."

I had a personal twitter prior to the impersonation, although it was still pretty new.

While the social networking sites don't cause these types of things, the amount of information we put on them can be used as a weapon by disturbed people. I learned that the hard way.

It's not just those sites, though. With search engines that can comb through every site you ever posted on going back years, nothing on the internet is truly "private." Everyone would be well-advised to remember that!

For that reason, I made my Myspace private where someone would have to send me a friend request to see my page.

Very true Soda. I do keep all my pages "private" as far as settings go, so that supposedly only people that I "accept" can view them but as we all know that never truly stops anyone. But if you get someone who really wants to do something like this, they will stop at nothing.

Wow--it's not only a sad situation but a VERY SAD person that is doing something like that and getting a kick out of it. My advice to said person SEEK HELP QUICKLY- you obviously need it! Get a REAL life! Seriously, what is the purpose of something like this. I don't get it. Thanks for the heads up!

How incredibly frustrating.

Yeah, it stinks. I think the initial imposter MySpaces started out as an attempt to borrow our prestige (what little we have, lol) to attract visitors to their sites, as there was effort put into the GFO imposter site especially - borrowed graphics and all. When I found out about it and complained, it became a vendetta against me that extended to these other networks (and now Maleah as a webmistress of DHO). That's all I can think of, as I don't see what other purpose it serves.

This is all so incredibly disgusting. Anyone that does this kind of thing really needs to get a life. You obviously have none if that is all you can find to do with your time. Grow up!
