I'm going to the tour opener for AEROSMITH in Maryland Heights, Mo.
(St.Louis) on June 10th. Opening for them on this show will be
3 DOORS DOWN. I'll report back here after the concert and let you know
how it went.

I've been going to concerts for many years, but somehow have never
seen Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Company. I put them on my "Maybe I
Should See Them Before They Retire" List. (along with several others)

I've seen Aerosmith twice. They are unbelievable! I recall the first time i saw them. I was just about to grab a beer before they took the stage... as I started walking away I heard the music begin and their shadows on stage. I remained by my seat, thinking, I'll get a drink in a minute... well, once they where on stage, they were on! (I never left my seat untl the show was over) Steven has such an amazing stage presence. Him and Joe together, truly magical.

At one point in the show, he (Steven) grabs this rope and was swinging above the crowd, it was cool. He had the energy of a twenty year old. I think you are really going to enjoy yourself. :partytime:

I saw Aerosmith a couple of years ago (with Lenny Kravitz opening), and I have to say that they all had the energy of 20 year olds! It was amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole concert experience! I hope you enjoy your experience just as much.

Very cool Rick! I saw them in Peoria a few years ago and they were fantastic! Steven did the rope swinging thing then, too! How in the world that guy has a voice left after all these years is amazing! And Joe's guitar work is awesome!

I'd love to see them on this tour, too, but the dates just aren't working for me. It should be a great evening for you. A definite must see.

They were my first concert '88 I managed to get tickets from a friend who couldn't go so me and some other friends were able to go,,,I was almost at the "when you're old enough age" so my mom couldn't resist, esp. for free. I've seen them one time since for Pump tour in '90. I think they filmed some of one of their videos in our old coliseum, can't remember what song.

They are coming to Tampa but I won't be able to make the trip. You will have a great time. Wonder if Steven can still do the backflip. Let us know will ya. :)

OMG! Thanks for that FFL! Loved it!

Just last night I watched an old video of theirs. First time I'd seen them from the 80's as I was in the midst of child rearing, lived in the sticks, no cable or satellite. Unbelieveable right? True. Always been a fan, but didn't buy their albums, other than Toys In The Attic. So it was great to see them perform when young. I have the You Gotta Move dvd which just came out a very few years ago. It's great, but seeing them young is awesome! They still got it going on!

Poor Steven!!! But not the first time he has fallen off the stage. Back in the 70's, Aerosmith and AC/DC were the first concert I was ever allowed to attend (I'm not bitter about it really---even tho Mom said I was to young for Eagles... I won't go there again, I've gotten past it- you all know that story and I must move on....). Anyways, during the concert, Steven, shall we say, was a bit intoxicated I suppose, and fell off the stage. The crowd boosted him back up and he continued on. But then about 3 songs later, he forgot the words to Dream On and had to start it over 3 times before he finally was able to go on. Needless to say, my first concert experience was an education! ;)

In case anyone is in the market for a house, Joey Kramer has his little summer place on the market in Marshfield, Massachusetts for the tidy little sum of $3.69M.........hope the link works. If not, go to boston.com/real estate, type in 'Marshafield, MA' and it should be the first listing that comes up. (Joe Perry's house -- loving called "The Boneyard" -- in the same neighborhood, WAS on the market as well....I'll check for that listing too.

I thought I would include another picture we took that night in St. Louis.
This is NOT what you want to see when you are at an outdoor venue for
a concert. A severe thunderstorm came through after the opening act,
3 Doors Down finished their set. It delayed Aerosmith's set by about
1 & 1/2 hours. All ended well, though. We were under the covered portion
of the amphitheatre so we didn't get wet. Others weren't so fortunate out
on the lawn seats.

Okay, it appears that Joe Perry sold the South Short property finally. I think it had something to do with -- oh, no -- a divorce! Anyway, if you want to get a gander at his old digs, go to Google Earth and type in "The Boneyard, Duxbury, MA" and it will pull up an aerial view of the property. (Duxbury and Marshfield, by the way, are right down the road from one another, for those of you not familiar with the area south of Boston. I spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods when I lived there)

Well, It's official, the rest of the Aerosmith tour has been cancelled
according to the band's website. This is due to Steven Tyler's injuries
due to a fall from the stage in South Dakota on August 5th. No word
on if and when it will be rescheduled.

Like I said earlier, I'm glad I got to see the tour opener in St. Louis back

i hope Steven gets well soon, and comes back better than ever.

Stephen speaks! This is just a small excerpt from the interview. Note-language!

From Rolling Stone:

Steven Tyler Speaks Out About Injury, State of Aerosmith: “We’re One for All, All For One”
8/25/09, 12:05 pm EST
David Browne

“Do I sound fucked up or stoned?” Steven Tyler asks, calling from his home in New Hampshire on Monday. In his first comments to the press, Tyler wants to set the record straight about what happened when he fell off the stage in South Dakota on August 6th — followed by a cancellation of Aerosmith’s summer tour and subsequent reports of band turmoil. “Truth be known, I jumped off the stage on purpose,” he jokes at first. “Figured we hadn’t gotten any new press in so long.” But then Tyler got serious.

How’s your health?
I’ve been better. I’ve got my arm in a sling [from a broken shoulder]. I’m on all the drugs I’m not supposed to be on. But I’m dealing with the pain pretty good.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry: Band not breaking up
Nov. 10, 2009, 11:08 AM EST
NEW YORK (AP) -- Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry says the legendary rock band isn't breaking up — although they need a new singer.

Perry said on the micro-blogging site Twitter late Monday Aerosmith is "not splitting up" but "looking for a new singer to work with" amid speculation about the band's future and the role of front man Steven Tyler.

Tyler has been quoted as saying he is considering a solo career.

Photos: Aerosmith

Perry said Monday on WKXL, a radio station in Concord, New Hampshire, that Tyler hasn't communicated his intentions with anyone in the band and that he found out about Tyler's solo wishes after going online.

Tyler could not immediately be reached for comment.

The 61-year-old Tyler was injured when he fell off a stage during an Aug. 5 performance in South Dakota, and the band canceled the remainder of its summer tour.

"After the tour got canceled, he just kept drifting off and doing other things. We would hear things from different people. He wasn't talking directly to anybody in the band," Perry told WKXL, referring to Tyler. "So basically, he just made the announcement that he was taking some time off."

I speculate that Steven was angry and in a fit of rage said he was quitting... not really meaning it though. I highly doubt Joe would publicly state Steven was leaving if something of the sort hadn't happened.

Then, there's always the theory that it's just publicy to promote Joe's solo album.

In any case, you can't have Aerosmith w/out having both Steven and Joe.

Can you imagine the Eagles without both Glenn and Don?

Wanted: Tyler’s fill-in
Aerosmith is casting a wide net as it looks for a singer to replace Steven Tyler. There are reports that Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer have so far approached Billy Idol, former Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers, and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell about filling in for their wayward frontman. (According to Classic Rock magazine, Cornell responded: ‘[Expletive], can you imagine how ridiculous that would be?’) Closer to home, what about Gary Cherone? We spied the Extreme singer - who succeeded Sammy Hagar in Van Halen - with Kramer at Saturday’s sold-out Cheap Trick show. Hmm. (Eagle bassist Timothy B. Schmit was also backstage.) Tyler, meanwhile, is supposed to be rehabbing in Los Angeles, but continues to be out and about. On Jan. 19, he jumped on the PA system at a Home Depot and sang a few Aerosmith songs for startled shoppers. His manager Eric Sherman told People.com (http://people.com/) that Tyler has completed the first 30 days of a 90-day program, and is in fine shape. “[Steven’s] a performer 24/7 - whether he’s onstage, at the Home Depot, or singing karaoke.’’ Apparently.

Is there another AI stylized "Rock Star" in the offing? It's a good way for a band to make money. Short term anyway. Look at the attention "Rock Star Super Nova" gathered! Can't even say it was for nothing either...I'm sure they made a bundle off their appearance even though they crashed right after the show went off the air and they made a few concert dates.

Maybe there is some aspiring Rock Star out there that can fill Tyler's shoes...I doubt it though.

Steven Tyler rejoins Aerosmith
Feb. 25, 2010, 11:41 AM EST
NEW YORK (AP) -- After turmoil that included public squabbling, threats of a lineup change and a rehab stint, Aerosmith (http://music.msn.com/artist/?artist=16073091) is back and ready to rock.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famershttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing_11pxw.gif (http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=484203&GT1=28102#) have announced a European summer tour — with Steven Tyler (http://music.msn.com/music/artist/steven-tyler/).
The announcement was made via a video post on the band's Web site Wednesday. Tyler was sitting with the rest of the band and joked: "I just auditioned and I got the gig."

Aerosmith has been in limbo since Tyler fell off a stage during an August concert, injuring himself and forcing the band to cancel the rest of their summer tour. After that, guitarist Joe Perryhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing_11pxw.gif (http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=484203&GT1=28102#) said Tyler needed to get his act together. I've been reading Steven's book. What a wild and crazy guy, but very smart. I hope they can all get along long enough to tour again.

I'll be interested to hear what you thought about the whole book when you're done with it. I loved the beginning of it and thought it was going to be a great read but about 2/3 of the way through it, I started to get a bit disgusted with his attitude of "I'm a rock star and that's why I do the things I do and no one understands me". The whole I have to have sex with all the groupies and my wives don't "get it" really p*ssed me off or the bit where he goes on and on about how the other guys in the band couldn't understand that he's the lead singer and they can all put down their instruments after a show and rest but he can't do that with his voice, etc.... He seemed to become a whiner and I hadn't seen that coming. JMO

TBF, you know how you said you didn't want to read the Eagles books incase you saw something that would make you change your feelings about them... yeah, seeing this post about Steven just kinda had that effect on me... even though I know he's a diva. :hilarious:

Well, I'm finally done with it and all I can say is what a witty, crazy, smart and yeah, probably a little full of himself, guy! I'm in awe of what he can do with his voice and his way with words even in conversation, and I love most of Aerosmith's songs and seeing them perform. The whole entertainer package right there. What a truly talented guy he is!

Yes, I'm disgusted about his groupie love and don't agree with that at all if he's married. I'm sorry he has such a drug and alcohol addiction, and that most of the other band members are still doing the drugs but they expect him to be straight. Everyone knows that's not gonna work!

I don't know. Even after reading all about it, I still admire him as an entertainer.

ETA: Just read ltlh's comment and and yeah, it does hurt when you read bad things about these people you so admire, but nobody's perfect. Even though we've put them up on pedestals they're human too.

Brooke, to clarify, I meant this ego issue... not his drug issue.

Trust me, I love Steven all the same. I'm sure somewhere in this thread you'll see how he caught my attention at a concert and my eyes never left him. Amazing entertainer!

I just don't care for the "i'm a rockstar and can do what i want" attitude... even if it is true!!! :hilarious:

That's exactly what I mean LTL. I KNOW I'm gonna see that a lot in all the biographies/autobiographies I read about the Rock Gods I love but it still ticks me off most of the time. But like you, I still love them and Steven is no different.

Funny story -the opposite happened one time tho. For years, David Lee Roth use to drive me crazy with his Rock God attitude and the way he strutted around all the time, not just on stage. I knew it was what made him David Lee Roth but seriously.... Then I read his book, Crazy From The Heat, and he is actually a very intelligent business man and not just a pretty face. He also loves himself but came across completely different than he usually does in interviews and such. Gained a whole new respect for him, which usually didn't happen after reading books like his or Steven's. KWIM?

Yeah, I don't care for that attitude either, but it didn't really bother me much in Steven's book. I just didn't take it too seriously I guess.

My husband's opinion is that Roth is sending the whole thing up. He is a huge Roth fan but he is also English & that's the attitude he has.

WOW! Did anyone see Aerosmith last night on 60 Minutes???

Talk about some tennnnnnsion. Holy crap - it seems like the camp is divided into 2 or 3 pieces - Tom, Joey, Brad in one, Joe in his own, and Steven in his own.

Joe saying that "well Steven needs his jaw to sing", when asked about their relationship and how they get along and what he thinks of him! Steven looked P$SSED when the interviewer told him that is what Joe had said.

Brooke

I saw it and I thought it was very uncouth for the interviewer to tell Steven stuff like that on camera. How is he supposed to react? I thought he handled it well, but really.

Maybe it's all hype and Aerosmith are just looking for media coverage. Anything is better than nothing, kwim?

We watched it out of curiosity. We were out at the Buffalo Chip the night of the show when Steven Tyler fell off the stage and Rich & I are in agreement (to some extent) that it was almost expected. Tyler looked unsteady on his feet from the moment they hit the stage. There has been a tremendous amount of dissention among the band ever since (although there were rumblings even before that). But I lost some respect for Lara Logan as a result of how she handled the whole interview.

Gosh, those guys still look great!!!!

I really didn't see nothing there that I didn't expect. Anyone who has read Steven's book knows that he admits freely that he thinks he's the reason the band was a success and how much inner turmoil there is and always has been in the band. He also admits that it's a love/hate relationship and admits that he was absolutely ruthless to Joey Kramer for years with torment. Can't blame Joey for still feeling resentment. I'm kinda surprised that Steven said that he was hurt by the whole jaw thing and I'd be willing to wager a bet that when Joe said that, it was more or less a joke but that both of them, at one time or another, have probably came close to blows. What do you expect, every rock band that's been around for decades, have had their moments, as we well know that our band here is no exception.

Shallow note here, but those clothes Joe & Steven were wearing at the end were fabulous!!!!

I always have to laugh at people who make such a big deal about band in-fighting. Of course they fight! Wouldn't you if you lived on the road with your co-workers, 24/7, for weeks or months on end? I'm sure they don't fight all the time. They couldn't have stayed together if they did, but no one wants to hear about happiness. It doesn't sell books.

I once ran into Steven and Joe hanging out together at a Massachusetts renaissance fair. They seemed to be having a good time then.

(That's my "moment with the famous" story, btw. I was in line for coffee in front of Joe Perry and accidently bumped his elbow as I turned around to leave. I was too shy to do anything but smile and say "Excuse me," but I gushed about that for weeks!)

It wasn't so much I was surprised by the interview as I knew Aerosmith had always had troubles with band members but Perry's jaw comment shocked me and I was really surprised by that and that is what I was the most shocked by. It just seemed that the tension was stronger than I had imagined it would be, the interviewer handling it poorly, and the jaw comment is what made me go "Wow". I didn't see it as not being serious, but I can have a hard time telling that sometimes if it's more subtle. I realize Tyler/Perry's partnership is strained and full of turmoil at times (read 'Walk This Way') but I just figured the interview would be a bit more relaxed and, well, not so uptight.

It would be nice to hear Joe's side of the story.

Great observation, WE, and may have a lot to do with why our guys have settled into the touring routine we've seen in recent years -- too much togetherness isn't always a good thing!

Note: I haven't gone back to watch the interview again yet, but I don't recall seeing the entire band sitting down ALL together at any point during the process. Unless I missed something (and I will go back and watch again), that's rather odd.

Did anyone have a chance to see "Rock for the rising sun" ? I caught it this weekend on Palladia.

A sort of travelogue documentary of their Japan shows. Very interesting to watch.

But wow! I have never seen them live in concert and this show just blew me away. They played great, looked terrific and Steve Tyler can rock a "man blouse" like nobody's business!

I definitely need to see them live!

You know, this came up in a Don Henley thread about the girls in his band looking too young. (I think so) Anyways, if you watch the videos in Steven's Today Show appearance, there are at least 4 girls in his band and they are quite young too. But they are dressed more age appropriate and even though Steven is 68 (Don's age) these girls look good with him. Steven can get away with this because we know how wild he is. IMO, Don can't. Don is too classy!
