This came up on Google Alerts also today. Is there a Timothy Mentions in the Press like some of the other guys? I figured I'd post it there since it's so small and don't want to start another new thread for it but don't see one. So I thought I'd go ahead and put it here then.

Wimbledon starts in less than a month.
That means The Best Thing Ever — England is coming up, too.
And over the weekend, in the midst of my meditative trance brought on by the Eagles and Timothy B. Schmit’s dead sexy fingers, I hit on the perfect insane prize for the winner.
I’m quite excited about it all.

Boy, have I ever been there done that!!! :hilarious: Don't really know what this is but sure got my attention!!

Why don't we change the title of the thread to "Timothy Mentions in the Press/Blogs"? Would work for me!

Thanks for the link....have to say I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. The vision of the Carrack/Timothy/Eagles encounter conjurs up something out of the Saturday morning cartoons -- too funny. Can't agree with the criticisms of Timothy's voice and delivery though. IT'S WHAT MAKES HIM SO EASY TO LOVE (AND HIS SMOKIN' HOT GOOD LOOKS DON'T HURT EITHER). We all know where our dedication lies!

While doing some research for a review I am writing, I stumbled on this. Knowing that people on The Border leave no stone unturned, I thought I would post it here. If it has been posted elsewhere, my apologies. If not, well, here it is, enjoy. You'll have to scroll down to the picture of TBS.

http://popdose.com/the-producers-leaving-elektra-life-with-the-crue-and-meeting-twisted-sister/

Here's the part about Timothy...

http://popdose.com/wp-content/uploads/51SJm-KahPL._SCLZZZZZZZ_1.jpg I also received a call from Irving Azoff, who requested that I get in touch with Tim Schmit of the Eagles and become involved in his plans to record a solo album. Irving wanted me to go to Tim’s house and hear what he planned to record. I did know Tim from the Poco years, but I hadn’t said three words to him during that period (Richie Furay was always the chatty one). I was a little anxious about calling a member of the Eagles and telling him I’d like to come and hear the material he was preparing for his solo album (imagine if Irving had wanted me to do the same with Henley and Frey…).
As expected, every time I did manage to reach Tim, he gave me the dodge or told me this wasn’t a good time, and for the first time in my professional life I learned what it was like to be considered the pesky jerk from the record company. I wanted to leave a message that said “Tim, I’m not a jerk – I actually have some understanding of the musical process,” but of course I never did; nor did I ever manage to hear one note of Tim’s music before I left the label. I had lunch in New York with Judy Collins, and had prepared for this by listening to her more recent albums. How was I to revive her career? To my ear, she was beginning to lose control of her pitch, and the only reason we were doing an album with her was because her contract required it. Elektra was actually in a similar position with many of artists whose careers had peaked some years earlier.

Yikes, harsh! I'm surprised Timothy would be so unreceptive towards someone Irving had recruited to help him.

Wow, Tim is so freaking honest and frank. I love that. That's the best Tim interview I've ever read.

This blew my mind:

My mother and my brothers and their families still live up in Sacramento so oftentimes I get off one of these tours where I've driven up to the tarmac to get on the private plane and I'm living that life for a few weeks. And then I come home, I need to go visit my mom, and I stand in line at Southwest Airlines. Like everybody else. It's a great hit of reality.

Shoot! I'm gonna be lookin' around next time I fly to Sacramento! ;)

Great interview with Tim! He sounds so upbeat and positive, and I love that he also expresses a desire to keep truckin'. The stories about his father also interested me, and in my eyes, the title has gone from bizarre and ill-advised to touching and meaningful. It was so brave of Tim to write all of these songs by himself when he's so used to collaborating, so brave of him to "put himself out there" by make the songs very personal. It's really paid off, though. YOU GO, TIM.

Thanks Koala!

Schmit's 85-year-old mother, Janey, confirms his version of events. Up to a point. "Well, we don't call it a trailer," Janey Schmit said. "It was a mobile home. Trailer sounds kind of trashy."

LOL! There's a mom for ya!

Schmit's flattop was growing out and his horizons broadening by the time he and three Encina High School classmates became the New Breed, a British Invasion-inspired group that had a local hit with the song "Green Eyed Woman." Schmit sees his old bandmates every time he comes to town.
"We are still close, and a lot of that has to do with Tim's efforts," says George Hullin,62, a Sacramento insurance broker who was the band's drummer. "He is very grounded for being in such a super group. He has never forgotten his roots."I love to hear things like that. Once again, Timothy seems like such a great guy.

Berklee College/School of Music is an independent institute of higher learning on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston...I worked right around the corner from it when I lived up there. It's launched more than a few well-known musicians over the years (including Steve Smith who was the original drummer for Journey).

Stayed up quite a bit later this evening so I could listen to the BBC spot Timothy did Wednesday. Despite his Twitter about 'jet lag' I thought he sounded remarkably relaxed. Seems with every subsequent interview he finds a greater comfort zone. Must say his wide-ranging talent as a musician really shines in this interview -- his guitar-playing is exemplary -- and his voice on both songs was crisp and crystal-clear! I'd be thrilled to have him put out an entire CD of all-accoustic music! Have to add that I got a chuckle about his comments when the 'peacemaker' issue came up. Just hope he was paying close attention and taking notes because host/interviewer Simon Mayo referred to Timothy as the "Oasis of Calm' in the Eagles -- sounds like a great album title to me!

Throughout the night we got to see a side of Timothy that is very rare. The long haired mute would almost be a fitting title for those who have seen him at an Eagles gig, stood to one side with his bass but every so often gliding in to play his few leads in the limelight before again taking a back position. It was great to see the talkative and at times very humorous side to someone the world seems to know so little about.

This is my favorite part.

Eagles tribute band is looking for a bass player that can sing the high parts, like Timothy B. Schmit (lead and back ground vocals). All other parts are in place. We are just needing the bass player. Gigs to be played and money to be made.

It is a article about Neil Dimonds new album Dreams, here the part about Tim:

Also getting tapped twice is Randy Newman, whose “Feels Like Home” is all but unrecognizable. (Interestingly, it features Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles on harmony vocals, but Schmit does not perform on Diamond’s cover of “Desperado,” which sounds more wistful as it concerns aging.)

http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/6.gif I should know better than to read the comments at the end of these stories. What idiots. Obviously clueless. I mean really, what does Randy have to do with Timothy doing solo shows and putting out solo albums. And as far as Timothy being one of the "luckiest musicians ever".... How the hell long has Timothy been touring with the Eagles now and has more than proven that he's a real Eagle!?!? And have they not heard of LROOE?

BTW, Charlotte The Harlot, he's on that album also and your little comment about "poor old Randy Meisner" Randy left on his own, no one fired him and Timothy didn't bully him out!! Get a flippin' clue!!!

And while I'm ranting... check out the statistics the last time Timothy did those couple of shows in the UK!! He did better there than he did here in the US. The UK embraced him!!! Do yourselves favors, buy yourselves some tickets, to see the man then MAYBE we will listen to what you have to say!!! http://bestsmileys.com/angry2/6.gif

Why anyone would bring Randy up in comments about Timothy's solo shows is beyond me. "Poor old Randy Meisner" isn't exactly poor. He never regretted his decision to leave. I don't think he would like people faulting Timothy for being included in the resumption. He certainly doesn't harbor any resentment against Timothy or any of the Eagles for that matter. He's happy with his life.

Couldn't agree more with all of your comments. It is just uber lame for anyone to imply that Timothy is responsible for Randy not being an Eagle. As far as the comment about Tim just being lucky - OMG ... that's just incredibly ridiculous beyond words!

Now, with regard to Tim playing more solo shows - I say bring 'em on Mr. Schmit (or is that Schmidt???)

From the Hall of Fame ceremony where Timothy defers to Randy as the one who was 'in the trenches' with the Eagles, you can see the great respect Timothy holds for Randy and how touched Randy was by it. Why must people create drama where there is none? You're right, whitcap - Randy wouldn't like Timothy to be "blamed" for a decision Randy made on his own and for the sake of his own happiness. I guess some folks don't understand that money isn't everything, and that people like Randy and Bernie could walk away from that kind of fame and fortune with no regrets.

Willie - I'll pop over with the cold flannel! ;)

"Unknown outside of the Eagles?" Tim doesn't perhaps get as much recognition as other members, but he is extremely respected as a musician, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE of the Eagles. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. My solo show was at full capacity, and a large group of people had come all the way from France to see him. Not bad for "a bass player", eh?

Eagles bassist and singer Timothy B. Schmit has no plans to retire. When asked about any plans to retire he told Spinner (http://www.spinner.com/2011/02/04/timothy-b-schmit-expando/) that he finds the idea quite strange. “The concept is absurd to me.

I get the impression that for Timothy not only making Expando, but touring with Expando came to him at exactly the right time in his life. Can you imagine how addicting it must be to get on stage, play your music for people and have them love it? I don't care how old I got, I would want that feeling ALL THE TIME.

At least Tim did do some shows in the UK, which is more than the other three have in recent years.
I don't dispute that, FP. (And I was lucky enough to get a front row seat in London.)
I was just correcting Brooke's comment, in which she limited his fans to the US. :fingerwag:
In fairness, Tim did have an album, Expando, to plug, and the others haven't released any solo albums recently. (Don 2000, and Glenn and Joe both 1992 from what I can see, excluding compilation albums.)

I acknowledge that there are lots of factors to take into account when thinking of doing solo shows. Even with a relatively small band costs soon add up, and with seats for Tim's shows costing £40 in London in a venue seating about 900 I do wonder how much profit was actually made from the trip to the UK. To my shame, I can't remember if there were three or four backing musicians, three singers, Tim (and Jean). So say 9, plus there may have been a couple of roadies, so that makes 11. London hotels for say two nights at £200 per person per night (my nothing-special place was £140, so £200 is a very modest estimate), plus meals. Add transport to the UK (business class minimum), in the UK, venue hire, etc, and the costs soon mount up. So I can understand any of the Eagles not doing solo dates in the UK - or indeed anywhere else in the world apart from the US and possibly Canada.
It must also be tricky trying to find places that are small enough to accommodate the smaller fan base that an individual Eagle might have yet being large to cover the costs whilst keeping the ticket prices reasonable.

What a rush this must have been for him just getting with the Eagles.

"When I was first part of The Eagles, we did Giants Stadium in 1980. We were playing in front of 60,000 people, a huge event. After the show, we ran into New Jersey State police cars and were whisked across the parking lot to waiting helicopters. As we hovered over the stadium all of the people were still there and cheering. I remember thinking to myself, 'wow, this is about as good as it gets. This is what I used to dream about. This is like The Beatles."

This one still calling Expando new and talking about the "new" single, Friday night with link to the video (on the official site). Me thinks we need a new press release. :headscratch:

TIMOTHY: Actually, this is my thing, so I have been putting it together. It's been interesting, because it's different for me to be the alpha dog, although it's very much a group effort when we're on stage. But I make the decisions and the set list.

No touring planned for next year??? But a few weeks ago Joe was saying there would be a tour - even that there would be a new setlist! Maybe Timothy just hasn't been informed...but wouldn't they say something to him in Vegas?

My take is 'don't panic'. With Timothy hitting the road over the coming weeks, Joe's new album due for release in February (according to him) and Don's project hopefully coming up for release soon, they may have a lot on their plates for the early part of 2012. My inclination is to think that they are working on putting dates/venues in place for the band -- maybe the second have of next year -- but if nothing is solidified yet, why put the cart before the horse?

Have faith, Borderers. Joe has indicated something involving the band for 2012 and I BELIEVE!

(Does anybody know the date of their official, first big concert? Maybe that comes into play for a 40th Anniversary tour.)

sodascouts

True, and Glenn has given February as the target date for his new album as well.

Perhaps 2012 will be an Eagle-licious year after all. ;)

I'm not going to panic, either. They're all busy guys, but I still have faith in the possibility of a 40th anniversary tour.

I agree! Joe has talked about revamping the Eagles' setlist, and why redo it if they don't tour? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I would just be patient. These things take time to plan. I am hoping that Glenn will do a tour to support his album & he would probably want to do that before any Eagles tour.

Did you all read this?

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/eagles-quit-40th-anniversary-debut-album/

“I do not think we’ll go on so long. Next year marks the 40-year anniversary of our first album. This could be a good time to … oh well, quit? Or go on tour?”

Surely he's kidding there.

Freypower
11-14-2011, 04:59 PM
That's actually Don Henley saying that. Again I would not put too much into that. He goes on to say:

However, he does add that the band is still driven by their fans and their creative juices. “The motivation is really the popularity that we enjoy,” he explains. “And I hope we can still write more songs. I hope that my best work still lies ahead of me. Whether it’s true or not, I can still get out of bed in the morning.”

Brooke
11-14-2011, 05:16 PM
Yes, I knew it was Don saying that. That's why I posted it under the other caption. I also posted it in the Eagles/press thread, but no one responded.

There was discussion here, so I brought it up again.

It is a bit confusing to know where to put things! I think your post in "Eagles Press" got buried in a flurry of activity. I know I somehow missed it.

They've been talking about quitting as long as I've been a hardcore - six years. With every passing year the inevitable gets closer; however, I think Don's statement wasn't any more final than what we've heard from him before.

11-16-2011, 04:22 AM
I also think Timothy's comment about "no plans" probably refers more to "no definite dates and I'm not going to speculate or raise your hopes"

I am sending out positive vibes for LOTS of touring. I think it's likely to be later in the year though.

My take on TBS's comment of no plans... to me, means that there aren't any dates penciled in yet, but of course they are going to tour... just not sure when.

TBS doesn't seem like the guy to say, "summer tour", unless there is pen to paper.

I have decided not to think about them "retiring." It was a fear I had back in 2008, but not anymore. At one point, they may choose not to tour, but still may put on occassion shows, like the ones in Vegas. They may be getting older and may want to slow down a bit... but music is in their blood! It will never stop being a part of their lives, ever! They may not share it with the masses as much, but I have faith they will continue giving fans nuggets here and there... and yes, I have faith they will be touring in 2012!

What a cool peek behind the scenes! Thanks for the link.

Veteran guitarist Randy Ray Mitchell needs to learn the songs quickly because Timothy’s long-time guitarist Hank Linderman is tending to his ill mother.

Oh no! I hope Hank's mother gets well soon.

This year the Eagles performed at the Monaco wedding of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene. Timothy even offered me some fancy French mustard he pilfered from the green room at their gig there.

LOL! Tim the mustard thief. ;)

And Skip says there are more pieces coming - we'd better be on the lookout!

Sorry to report that Hank's mom passed away.

Hank is back on board!

Check out Skip Demuth's latest blog which includes pixs and a copy TBS's partial set list.

Turns out Timmy booked it out of Vegas and was home and in bed by midnight. The author is now back in Seattle and will probably be blogging about TBS's show and M&G at the Kirkland.

We don't know when that interview was conducted & Joe has a very different take on things. 'Foreseaable future' probably only means the next few months where hopefully there will be some solo activity to support albums. After that I expect the 40th anniversary celebrations to start. Joe did say I'm sure that this would be in the second half of the year.

I don't know why, but it seems to me that Tim might be under instructions not to be too specific about the band's plans. Or perhaps he would rather keep it vague himself.

Topkat
11-25-2011, 05:33 PM
I think there is a plan for a tour later in the year. They just don't have anything confirmed yet, so they really can't say anything definite. He seemed to think he will have some down time in the beginning of the year, so he will work on new stuff. Until it's all confirmed, they don't really say anything. It would be premature to give out that kind of information.

I just loved the rest of the interview, about how he joined the Eagles, & The Long Run, & how Paul McCartney was an influence on him. It was all interesting.

Free of all of that, Schmit finally settles into a comfy Americana vibe again. Here’s how low key things were, in Schmit’s own words: “On ‘Friday Night’ there aren’t any real, traditional drums. Well, there are a couple drum hits, but the drum sounds are mostly a result of banging on guitars, chairs and walls. I like to create and have fun with different sounds. The bass drum on the song is a Sparkletts water bottle.”

Very cool!!

When 'Expando' first came out in '09, I was touring as a solo artist for the first time in my career. It was a great time. The people that are there are there because they really want to see you, and you can play off the audience a bit, too, which is fun. The connection can be very powerful.

It was fun for us to, Timothy!!!

It hits me once in a while. The other day, I had on satellite radio and [heard] 'Night by Night' from the Steely Dan (http://www.spinner.com/tag/SteelyDan/) album 'Pretzel Logic.' To hear my young voice on there was kind of bittersweet -- so many memories from back then. I looked at my wife and said, "A near perfect record." She agreed [laughs]. Love when they were talking about Hank's guitar and that woman said she took a picture of it. I did also, that night in Chicago. You can find my picture here in the Gearhead thread somewhere.

Don't know if I like it whenever he makes statements like, "I know my place in the band". I know it's true and they all have their place but for some reason, that always seems to rub me the wrong way a bit.
