Earlier, Lisa linked to a video of Hotel California from the Barcelona concert that was on YouTube. The same guy has now put up Desperado from Barcelona

Additionally, someone put up Hotel California from Zurich but the guy was pretty far back and so it's poor quality.

Been quite a while, but just a day ago, someone put up several clips from the Munchen, Germany May 2006 concert (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=eagles+munchen&search=Search). It's an amateur job from a shaky hand-held and only Hotel California is complete, but there are some good shots during songs like Take It to the Limit and Peaceful Easy Feeling.

Someone made a montage to Fast Company on YouTube. That site has so much traffic that it will probably get the song 500x more publicity with younger fans - at least. That's a conservative estimate. I like it - simplistic but effective. The photos are well-chosen.... although the Eagles are hardly going nowhere fast. ;)

They even give a nice thank-you to The Fastlane.

This one is artsier; I like it except it has a couple photos of what I assume is a tribute band inserted in there. That just happens twice, though.

OK, somebody stop me! lol

This one is even artsier; has some eye candy for the guys; mostly is about Don although the other Eagles do get some screen time (ironically, most of the photos are the same as the "Fast Company" montage.)

Thanks for these Soda. They are interesting to watch. I agree with PLS though about PEF - looks like the guy didn't quite do his homework. BTW - in The Sad Cafe montage, that second tribute band is Hotel California. I saw them in September when they played at a county fair in Virginia. They actually weren't bad at all. One of these days, I'll get around to posting a review.

The Eagles as a backing band (both from the 1974 Kirshner Rock Hour):

Jackson Browne - Your Bright Baby Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA5w6KHfPPY) - check out Glenn on piano!

Linda Ronstadt - Desperado (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48WCxABppbc) - of course, inferior to the original, but worth a look!

Lots of great shots of Glenn, and Randy, too.

Do you know who was playing lap steel guitar? They never showed a face. I wonder if it was Al Perkins.

Perfect Little Sister
01-26-2007, 11:42 AM
Thank you, Soda...that was great. You know I'm always up for piano footage. :D

I have to say...Jackson is another man who has gotten even better looking with age. (not fair!)

I assumed it was Bernie playing steel, DF. I don't recognize the hands. lol

sodascouts
01-26-2007, 11:46 AM
I assumed it was Bernie, too, but one of the guys on YouTube mentioned that it could be David Lindley, who played steel guitar for Jackson Browne a lot. I kind of hope it was Bernie anyway since all the other Eagles are up there!

Perfect Little Sister
01-26-2007, 11:49 AM
That's kinda what I was thinking too. I tried to see as they pulled back in the last frame, but they did the fade too quickly for me. It looked like the musician in question was sitting pretty close to the drum set...so I was watching that side of the frame. But, alas, I couldn't tell.

I'm guessing since it's all part of the Kirschner show, it was Bernie.

Someday soon, I'm going to do a little digging and try to find out more about David Lindley. Can't put my finger on it, but there's something about him that makes me very curious to learn more about his background!

All the guys looked great--unfortunately I never saw a good shot of Don though! That must be one reason why I didn't know who he was until his Dirty Laundry/Boys of Summer days.

That little boy playing guitar in that clip was adorable. He looked like he was sitting to the side of the stage--I wonder who he belonged to?

I'm not sure if Meisner had kids then; it's very possible as he was married and is now a granddaddy, according to an interview a few years back. Another possibility is that it could have been a baby Browne. On the other hand there were so many bands at California Jam that perhaps any one of their kiddies was entertaining himself to the side!

Funky New Year is fun. Glenn seems to have a huge smile on his face right through that! Don's little rap is cute.

This may already be up somewhere, but I couldn't resist posting it again. This is the Eagles singing Boys of Summer from Christchurch, and it is one of my favorite songs from that video. First, they are all performing in that awful rainstorm, but making the best of it. Second, I love the look that Don gives Timmy--Don's voice is obviously becoming more and more hoarse in that weather, and all it takes is a look and Timmy steps right in to sing behind Don. Lastly, I love the end when Glenn nods his head towards Don & Timmy and they all get in line and step back & forth together.

I suppose its possible they'll wear suits for the first part of the gig and then change into Jeans later on (Like in the F1 dvd). I know they changed at the break in Dublin last time they played there. So we might get the more formal look earlier on and then then the casual one. Keeps everyone happy. Well - I guess the truth is that I really don't mind seeing them no matter what they wear. However, I wasn't that fond of the suits they wore in the first half of the early F1 tour. I was very glad when they went back to all casual in the California and European legs of the tour.

I didn't trust his review either. I found his critique of their voices to be very questionable. Unless Don is not feeling well, it never seems like he has to "work hard" on his voice. There are some other - more positive - reviews that can be found if you click on some of those linkbacks at the bottom of that page. Sorry I've been scarce, folks - visiting my parents right now over spring break. Anyway, this is very cool. I guess they're going for the Monkees thing with the matching outfits. ;)

I wonder if this is reflective of the final setlist? I can't imagine them doing a show without Take It Easy. They have never in their history as a band played a public concert without doing that song (except for this dress rehearsal, obviously). I would be very surprised if they dropped it - but hey - I've been surprised before! I can't pretend to know what informs their decision-making process regarding setlists at this point.

I can't wait to hear what they do in London - if they do more, or if this is really it.

Perfect Little Sister
03-12-2008, 03:18 PM
The setlist may have been pared down due to them starting an hour late. Also, they really don't need to practice TIE or Desperado. It sounds like they wanted to run thru the new stuff (songs and stage) and perhaps the "oldies" that were done were kinda thrown in to round out the evening. It's hard to imagine the set being shortened this way. If Sammy Hagar can still play a three hour show with Michael Anthony only taking lead on a handful of songs surely our Eagles can too. :)

I'm with you there, Soda. I can't believe they'd leave out TIE or Desperado. But PLS's theories make sense. Also, I saw a posting where someone was speculating that they may have been planning on doing a second encore. This person said that the house lights stayed off for a while, but the crowd started leaving. It would make sense to have those two songs as the second encore songs, so maybe that is what happened.

Dreamer, thanks for posting the link to the LA Forum rehearsal review. I wouldn't take his words to heart, though. It's his opinion regarding whether or not Timmy was weak, or Don and Joe were trying to preserve their voices. It's great that he thought so much of Glenn's  vocals, but I'm sure that they all sounded great.

Regarding the new songs that were added to that particular setlist: I'm very excited about seeing "Somebody", "Guilty Of The Crime", "I Don't Want To Hear Anymore" and "Waiting In The Weeds" listed, although I must say that I was hoping to see "What Do I Do With My Heart" too. I am with those of you who are thinking that this is just a rehearsal for the new songs they want to play and threw in some of the oldies to round out the show for the crowd. I agree that this is probably not the final set list - at least I hope not. I believe that with the prices we are paying that fans deserve to see more than a two hour show. I’m really hoping that we are seeing two hour shows at special events, but the shows on the tour will be longer. However, based on comments Glenn has made, my guess is that they will scale the shows down from the F1 30 song set list. l think we will see about a 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 hour show with about 24 -26 songs. Of course, I am speculating about all of this, and I could be way wrong.

I love both the Eagles and the Monkees pics--thanks for posting them. I have actually been inspired to listen to Beatles music this week after watching American Idol--the contestants sang songs from the Lennon-McCartney songbook. (I understand they asked the Eagles if AI contestants could sing their songs and they turned them down--too bad. :? On the other hand, if they agreed and one of the contestants butchered an Eagles song, we would really hate that---so never mind!)

Now, about those black suits. I think the guys really do look handsome in them, so I hope they wear them for part of each show, and then change--hopefully into jeans. I am with dreamer--I like my rock stars in jeans.

But NO PLAID. Think about this--how many rock stars wear plaid? Seriously--plaid is NOT a fashion statement for a rock star. Plaid is what my husband wears to clean out our garage. :yuck:

I will concede that Don looked very handsome in the red plaid shirt and the white cowboy hat he wore during the Hotel California tour, however. It was a very small plaid so it looked almost solid red, and he looks great in that color. And with the cowboy hat--perfect! 8)

Well by this time next week we will at least have the dress details with the set list following on. I really can't imagine them leaving out the great stalwarts like TIE and Desperado. Like MF I'd love to see them do WDIDWMH although I fear MF herself will have to keep me supplied with tissues. But I'm sure too that they will want to set standards on the first night of the LROOE tour and I am looking forward to what I'm sure will be an excellent evening of music and eye candy.

As regards their voices it was great to hear that Glenn' s is sounding as superb as ever and I'm sure the others will sound just as good. That review was only one person's opinion anyway.

Finally you know what they say about a bad dress rehersal (and I doubt it was that anyway) .......

I absolutely love that photo of the Beatles. The insouciance, the charisma.... .it's all there.

I've seen Glenn's grey suit (but not the silver suit, yet) but the thought of him in a black suit and tie makes me go weak at the knees. It would not bother me at all if that is what he wore for the whole show. I have seen the jeans/overshirt combo often enough.

But as for plaid, DF... two words... Neil Young (and I believe on occasion Bruce Springsteen).

I have to say it was a nice change that a reviewer commented on Glenn's voice. I've read too many reviews where his singing isn't even mentioned. I understand the bewilderment with the comments about the others' voices. I would not take it that seriously.

However it would have been nice if Glenn had sung more than two new songs. I also was half expecting that Don would play drums on LROOE (which by the way I am delighted they played). I guess you can't have everything.

Neil Young can have his plaid--he is a fine musician, but his presence on stage does not make me go weak at the knees like Don does.

I'll give you Springsteen. That man is dynamite onstage.

I'm delighted they played LROOE too. I guess I am in the minority, but I actually expected them to play at least an amended version of i t, since this IS the LROOE Tour.

Glad you all liked the pics of the Beatles and the Monkees. I liked Davy too, but I think I had a bigger crush on Mike Nesmith. That blue knit cap just drove me wild! He was so groovy! :D

I guess I wouldn't mind if the guys dressed up a little (for part of the show); I just don't like the ties. They look awesome when dressed up in interviews, but onstage when they're playing HC, TIE, LITFL, BOS, LBG, that look just doesn't work for me. Don's plaid shirt over the henley shirt with the black jeans and ugly brown shoes just drives me wild - not unlike Mike Nesmith's blue knit cap come to think of it!

As for the Eagles turning down American Idol's request, I say "Thank you, Eagles!" I don't mean to offend anyone and this is just my humble opinion, but I can't stand that show and all of the hoopla surrounding it. I've been wondering if the Eagles had been approached by AI and now I know.

As for Don not playing drums on LROOE, that is too bad, but I was just glad to see that he played drums on at least 2 of the songs. My fear is that someday he's just going to decide he's had enough with the drums and quit them altogether. That'll be a dark, dark day...

Highlight 1: This is interesting, DF. On our local "Idols", one of the contestants performed "Hotel California". I wasn't aware that the performers' permission was needed for their songs to be sung on the show. With the number of songs that are performed, it would take an awful long time to obtain all the performers' permission. :? Having said that, I wouldn't want to hear the Eagles' songs being butchered either.

Highlight 2: LOL, DF!

Finally you know what they say about a bad dress rehersal (and I doubt it was that anyway) .......
......it leads to an excellent show!!

GA, I'm bringing along enough tissues for both of us... And if they indeed do NMCD, I will be reduced to a blubbering mess more than once.

Honestly sometimes it's just easier to watch it on YouTube though! lol

P.S. Those "Take It Easy" dancers are a hoot! But I noticed something on the "extended" version - they took the last portion of the song and looped it to make the song appear extended, I guess so it covered the whole of the credits. They even used different camera angles, but it's the same. The only reason I noticed was the way Jackson and Glenn went "shake it/bake it/take it" both times in exactly the same way!

I'm with ya, tbf. I know this is a shocker, but I like the Tim/Eagles version better too. I know a lot of people diss this song, but I personally think it is beautiful. It has a gorgeous melody and music. And then, there is the delivery with Tim's amazing voice. IMO, a lot of pure love songs get a bad wrap (most recently I Love To Watch A Woman Dance). For me, just because the lyrics aren't deep and complex doesn't mean it's a bad song. I think simplistic lyrics can be very emotionally affecting when delivered from the heart. Any song that moves me emotionally passes my test as a good song.

That was a really great video but seeing that song played live is simply amazing. FP, you're in for a real treat when you get to see it for yourself.

OK, but Lyin' Eyes doesn't appear on Eagles Live.

Hmm, I wonder where it's from? One thing's for sure - as I demonstrated, it's not the one from that performance.
