I read this story about Timothy the other day - possibly, some of you have readthis, but I thought it was a very nice 'article' and decided to share, in case you hadn't read it...not sure if I can post the whole thing here (is it good etiquette not too?)...anyway, it's a good read and more evidence that our Timmy is quite a nice guy! (But honestly, do we need more proof? :headscratch:)...

No Anne - I don't think we need any more proof! I think the consensus around here is that Timothy is a nice guy!

You did the right thing, anne-o-gg. Posting the link is good netiquette, posting the whole article is not. By posting the link you can direct people to the site that put up the story in the first place, which is only fair since they are the ones that took the time and effort to put it up. That site certainly has a lot of good information.

Love that story!

Hmmm, kind of makes you wonder if any of the Eagles do find their way to this site!

Well, I was discussing this with friends. We were saying that if it were “us” just out of curiosity, if we were famous we’d google ourselves! If there were any major fan websites on us, we’d surely be looking to see what people were saying… even if it wasn’t a daily thing, our egos would get the best of us and we’d have to pop in every once in a while, just to see. :)

I guess it just depends on how much time they have on their hands!

I'd make time. :hilarious: Really, I know I spend a lot of time on here, but if someone knew what my daily routine was, I think most people would find it hard to believe I had time for the border! I think we all make time for things we want to do... and jumping on the internet takes almost no time at all.

I wonder if they know what that means?

Absolutely! Look at people like John Mayer, who twitters so compulsively I'm almost tempted to unfollow him. Blake Shelton, Rob Thomas... a lot of them have blank downtime while waiting for planes, etc., and putz around online to pass the time. (Acutally got a twitter account for the express purpose of following Blake, who receives my nomination as the single most concurrently entertaining and offensive human alive.) I don't understand why famous people don't want to peruse their fan sites online - it's such an integral part of today's society, and such an easy way to promote yourself and your records. I'd want to see whether people liked me or not; whether I needed to adjust my attitude.

I'm not certain what to make of the internet boycott people like the Eagles and Stevie Nicks have undertaken. As someone who never, ever, ever answers her cell phone, I understand it; but, it's such a hardship not to have that kind of access to information, and fabulous to have wikipedia.org at my fingertips whenever my curiosity needs to be attended.

A lot of these people are old-fashioned and look at the web suspiciously - at least I think that's why we have Stevie's "MySpace is the devil" stance. But I will say this - Stevie had an official site (http://www.nicksfix.com) long before most of her peers. It was, interestingly, a converted fansite.

As you can imagine from the above, she takes a very tolerant view of her fansites - as you may know, there are MANY more Stevie/Mac fansites than in the Eagles fandom, where there are very few even if you throw in fansites for the Eagles solo as well. Check out my plentiful links page for Stevie! http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/site/links.html#stevie - In fact, there might be more, since I haven't updated in a while.

By contrast, look at my sadly bereft Glenn/Eagles link page, for instance: http://www.glennfreyonline.com/links.htm - where most of the links are just related and even some of the links I categorize under fan sites are part of larger sites like Rolling Stone. If you count only active Eagles/solo members sites (excluding my network), you are down to a handful.

Lindsey Buckingham doesn't have many sites, but he is so internet-savvy he made videos with webcams and posted them to YouTube (before the record company made him take it down - I kid you not!!) His official site (http://www.lindseybuckingham.com) is also a converted fansite. He also took enough notice of my BuckinghamNicks.net site (http://www.buckinghamnicks.net) to grant me an autographed album and two free comp tickets to one Fleetwood Mac show of my choice - admittedly this was only because his niece brought the site to his attention and asked him to do so, but it was still nice of him. (I chose the Atlanta show since they had already finished touring in my area). Obviously he is tolerant of fansites as well, to say the least.

The Penguin (http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/fwm/index.php) is not the official site, but John McVie has granted it interviews and actively uses it to promote the band. They have also been given comp tickets multiple times.

So, despite Stevie's occasional EXTREMELY old-fashioned statements, she and Lindsey are basically cool with fansites, at least. Stevie's real phobias are social networking and certain kinds of modern technology. She does own an iPod though, as she has confessed!

Why on Earth would they make him take it down?! I'm not a Mac fan but even I would watch those!

Unfortunately I do not enjoy many of Stevie's solo works, but I really enjoy her as a person and star, and always make a point to catch her on interviews and show appearances. I will most definitely scope out your link listings, now that I've completely exhausted inherownwords.com. Since catching her by chance on the Chris Isaak show where she dueted on one of my favorite songs ever, "Red River Valley," I've been trying to read as much as possible about her.

The paucity of Eagles sites really is interesting - difficult to determine the cause. Fear of lawsuits? (Damn lawyers.)

I'm unclear about that too. It seems to me that if they were HIS videos that HE made and HE put on HIS official YouTube channel.... but when Warner Bros. was making such a stink, his videos were suddenly gone along with many other WB artists. Maybe this is more legal crap where the rights of the copyright holder are co-opted by another entity that wishes to control it for its own reasons.

Stevie is really is a wonderful person. Love her!

The paucity of Eagles sites really is interesting - difficult to determine the cause. Fear of lawsuits? (Damn lawyers.)It's always mystified me. When I became a new fan, I looked around for other fansites. When I found links to them, they were either broken or the site wasn't updated anymore. I was very surprised and puzzled.

It was the main reason I created GFO (http://www.glennfreyonline.com) back in 2005 - I looked around and there were no active sites for Glenn. I found it appalling, frankly! This is the founder of one of the most - if not THE most - successful bands in history and the only fanpage is one that died years ago (http://allniter.tripod.com/nightflight.html)!

Same for Don - just one dead fansite (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/henleyfan/index.html)! Joe had several - I remember there was a particularly good one, too - but none of them were being updated.

Ironically, it was those with the lower profiles who each had one active fansite: Timothy with Feed the Fire (http://www.geocities.com/tbsfans/) and Felder with FelderFans (http://www.felderfans.com/). There was also a combo fan site for Felder, Bernie, and Randy called DeBear (http://debearplus.com/) which wasn't updated often but did get updated sometimes. That was it.

As far as the Eagles goes, at the time there were only two active fansites. One was a site called Desperado which is now closed. His domain, eaglesmusic.com, was transferred to the Eagles shortly after his site's closure (the URL (http://www.eaglesmusic.com) now directs to the official site). Wouldn't surprise me at all if he were given some "motivation" from the Eagles camp to close his site and surrender the URL, whether they offered him a monetary carrot or threatened to beat him to a bloody pulp with a lawyer's stick. The only other active Eagles site, which has been around a long time, is The Fast Lane (http://www.eaglesfans.com).

So, in 2005, I made GFO, and eventually expanded it to include all the guys. Now each has an active fansite.

You're right that it's difficult to say why there are so few. In order to make a fansite, you have to have sufficient time, strong motivation, almost fanatical dedication ;) , certain technical skills, and a thick skin to boot. You'd think there'd be as many people who fit that bill in the Eagles fandom as there are elsewhere, but for some reason they aren't making sites! lol
