There are very few "new" groups that I really get off on. But these guys captivated me. I caught them Nov 8, 2009 on Austin City Limits and they mesmerized me!

They are a group of three main players who were all sidemen for other artists (sound familiar?). The three "front men" (they have a drummer and keyboardist too) all three play strings. Two of them play a lot of slide. One of those two didn't play anything without a slide...INCLUDING a PIANO! I've never seen anyone use a slide on the strings of a baby grand while playing the keys with the other hand! That guy also played dobro (a resonator type metal guitar), a lap steel and also used a slide on a Les Paul.

Their music is a really strange blend of country and blues with a kicker of Rock.

Take a listen and see what you think. They are well worth the time you might use to look them up. Several cuts off of their 2009 released CD are streamed on My Space below:

These guys pretty much knocked me out Cathy. There are THREE "frontmen" in the group...each one a singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist with a lot of talent with other instruments. They remind me a lot of the EarlyBirds with Meisner and especially Leadon. They also have a drummer and a bassist who are part of the band and I think another who really poured on the ivory during the Austin City Limits segment. They are billed as a group of "Five" so I'm not sure whether or the pianist was a "regular" in the group.

During that ACL segment, they performed several songs off of their newly released "One Foot In The Ether" CD.

Found this on YouTube of Band Of Heathens with Dobro and two guitars and some un-godly vocals. Purty good pickin' too!

The Band of Heathens Oklahoma City Tonight at the Wormy Dog!

Oh man. I should have been watching the schedules closer. If I was even a hundred miles closer, I'd be fighting to get into that gig! Too late now though, got plans that I can't cancel for tonight.
