I'm on my way home right now, but I couldn't resist checking in on my phone. I love the fact that two new pages have been filled since I last looked. Great job at keeping 'em updated, Willie! ;)

I'll post in detail when I get home and obviously show you guys the pics. Oh my gosh, it was amazing! Tim sounded fantastic, and he was so adorable. The audience loved it! Seeing Paul Carrack was awesome, too.

And meeting him... Aaaaaahhhh. I still can't believe it! It was brief, but he was lovely. And gave me two orange TBS picks - one of which I'm mailing to Willie. So, so cool. I feel incredibly lucky and pretty high right now!

A little treat for you ladies before I go to bed (I have work tomorrow at 11am and its nearly 1am now!)

We had a great time at the show, sang along, clapped to everything (and mostly in time too!) and at the end we were given picks as well! I also managed to get a little note from me, WM and Gemma to Timothy's guitar tech who was lovely and brought WM a pick after Tim ran out!

Darn it! I thought it was you guys in the front row, but I wasn't sure. I should have come and said hello. I saw Tim hand your picks to you at the end - too cool!

Well, I got home a few minutes ago, and I'm armed with a coffee and the mental notes I made during the evening. The show was absolutely fantastic! Cadogan Hall is a beautiful venue, and Tim seemed thrilled to play there. He mentioned a few times that he'd love to play in the UK again. "Spread the word, and hopefully I can come back!" He sounded amazing, and I heard numerous people comment on how great his voice is, which made me smile. It really does seem that the UK is embracing Tim fully.

As Willie mentioned earlier, the doors opened at 7.30, the support act played from 8-8.30 and then there was an interval before Tim came on at 9pm. I must mention how brilliant the support, Nell Brydon, was - check her out! She's a New Yorker, but she's been living in London for a couple of months. She said that she's been with Tim on his UK dates and that not only is he a wonderful musician, he's also "a really great guy".

During Nell's set, we saw Jean wander out of a door to the right of the stage and sit down at the edge of the auditorium. That was pretty cool. My mum recognised her from HFO! lol.

By the interval, I really couldn't wait to see Tim. We had great seats and I knew we were in for a treat. As you can see from Toonlass's picture, he was wearing jeans, a dark blue t-shirt and a plaid shirt open over the top. (One up for the plaid shirt brigade! ;)) He looked great and sounded even better. I won't go through the songs one by one - partly because I can't remember the order! Maybe the other girls can help me out with this. - but I'll highlight the bits I remember.

Downtime is still my favourite song from Expando. It sounded awesome live, and I completely floated away every time he launched into the chorus! Other standouts were A Good Day (really love this one), One More Mile, and obviously Parachute. Ella Jean sounded better live, in my opinion, too. Tim told a cute story before he sang it, explaining that it's about his wife. He said that she had to go away to work, and they thought it would be for about a week, so he was like "It's cool, I'm working on this album so I'll be kinda tied up over here anyway..." But he said, then it turned into five weeks, quipping that "The poor thing was stuck in HAWAII." Everyone laughed as he commented that it must have been horrendous for her. He said he wrote Ella Jean as a present for Jean, and that he's thrilled it's now being played on UK radio.

There was a women behind me who yelled out "I Can't Tell You Why!" early on, which irritated me. I just think it's kind of disrespectful when Tim is doing this show for his new album... but I know people want to hear the hits. I'm pretty sure Tim heard her, as he kind of paused and then went up to the mic and said "Let's do the FIRST song off my new album." Then, a few songs later, Tim was handed his bass and said, a little sarcastically: "Look! I've got my BASS on!" Another guy shouted out "I Can't Tell You Why!" and Tim was like "Easy there, big fella." and launched into ICTYW. He handled it fine, but I can see how it could become a little disheartening to play your new songs but have people mainly interested in the songs you've performed a million times with your band. I guess that's the way it goes, though. I've got to say, overall, the audience was really receptive and seemed to enjoy the Expando songs. There were a few Poco fans around, by the sound of things too!

There was a cute moment when Tim introduced the ladies that were singing with him on a few songs (Secular Praise, White Boy From Sacramento, etc.) He said that he loves having them on stage with him, and that they're "the frosting on the cake". Then he added, amused: "I said that at my last show and a guy called out 'It's the icing on the cake'." Tim did an impression of the guy in a British accent, and it was so funny. He continued: "So they're the ICING on the cake."

He was really chatty between songs, and seemed to have a great rapport with his band. He was very sincere when he introduced each of them, talking about their individuals talents in a very unrehearsed, genuine way. He mentioned that he was on the Simon Mayo show in the UK a little while ago, and that he had to sing a song from The Great British Song Book (which all Simon Mayo guests are asked to do.) He said "I chose this one. I haven't performed it in public yet, so..." It was Steve Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home, and he sounded awesome. A real treat!

A while later, he started talking a little about the Eagles, and then said "It's special guest night tonight..." (I will admit, I freaked out for about two seconds!) Then he introduced Paul Carrack. He looked around for Paul to emerge from the doors on the stage, but he actually ran down the aisle just to the left of me, from the back of the theatre. Maybe he had been in the bar, I'm not sure. ;) But again, it was a treat to see them perform together. They did I Don't Want To Hear Any More and Love Will Keep Us Alive.

There was another cute moment when Tim was talking about his Poco days. He said "When I looked about 14." A woman called out "You still do!" He laughed and then started to smooth down his hair, saying in a kind of girly voice "It's the lights. And my make-up. And my mom's good genes..." He was really warm and had a great sense of humour. When he was handed a guitar at another point, the strap kind of got tangled in his hair, so the guy was helping him to get his locks free! Tim frowned and laughed and then helped with his hair, saying "Gotta be well-coiffed."

I'm sure there are bits I'm forgetting, but I'll add them if or when I think of them. It was an absolutely amazing night though - Tim got a standing ovation, and the general vibe of the audience as we were leaving was impressed and upbeat. He made everyone feel good.

When we left, we hung around for a couple of minutes before heading off to the station. We hadn't really planned to wait by the stage door, but there was a car waiting right there, and a few people milling around... it just seemed as if Tim was going to come out soon. Anyway, we were just about to leave when we saw Jean emerge and get into the car. Tim followed a minute later, and there was a few of us there. He signed a few things and said a couple of things in French to some French fans! Unfortunately I didn't have anything to sign (duh), but he said hello and I said how much I loved the show. He was really sweet, although it was obvious he was in a bit of a rush. He seemed to want to stay, but then he looked up and was like "I'm sorry guys, I really have to go..." but then he said "Here, I've got some presents for you." and handed a bunch of picks to a woman. He said in a mock-stern way; "Now, SHARE 'EM OUT. Don't keep them all - promise me?" It was really cute! He then handed a couple to me, said thanks, and got in the car. He gave a wave once he was in the car. It was brief, but cool! Just to be that close to him, say a couple of words and get some eye contact was AWESOME. Not to mention the picks... they really were the icing on the cake!

Don't go anywhere... photos coming next.

Speaking of the picks... One of them will be in the post to you soon, Willie! It's rubbish quality because I took it on my phone, but they say Expando on one side and Timothy B Schmit on the other.

Can guarantee will be going over all this tomorrow morning with a fine tooth comb to see what I'm sure I missed this evening.

ETA-- I just saw the picks! I hadn't even thought about it being an Expando pick! WOW! How cool!

I've been preoccupied over the last few days and haven't been around my computer much but when Lou texted me saying that she MET Timothy I knew that I HAD to make time to log on here and I'm so glad that I did.

WOW, just WOW!! I was no where near close to being at that show but after reading through this thread I felt like I was right there with the Borderers in attendance. I was feeling the excitement and anticipation right along with them.

Thanks so much for the review and pics Lou. And also thanks to Toonlass for posting a pic for us. I know it was late there and you must've been tired but we appreciate the reports so soon after the show. The pics are wonderful. I love Tim's outfit. He looks so relaxed and comfortable. I agree Evelyn & Cathy--he looks and sounds as if he is a LOT more comfortable with being out there in the spotlight now. GOOD!!! He admitted in Chicago that it all made him a little nervous but apparently he's starting to like it a bit.

I would give ANYTHING to be able to hear his rendition of I Can't Find My Way Home, one of my favorite Winwood songs ever! I bet that was magnificent! How lucky you were to have seen that!

Yeah-it was one of the recent ones (that Simon guy perhaps?). I should of said live-like when we saw him. I wish that would of been on the setlist then.

BTW-I remembered something also along the lines of him feeling more comfortable now. His blog entry, on his website...and I quote....
"Having a few solo shows under my belt has left me wanting to do more, so I’m hoping I might have a chance to come back here with my band and see what happens. Of course, my own personal schedule depends on what the mother ship (Eagles) will be up to. As most of you know, we will be doing at least a handful of shows starting mid-April, and I’m still waiting to hear about the summer."

I guess we are right!

Cathy - unfortunately I can't remember what was going on while each individual picture was taken. Although I did take most of them between songs, so I caught some of his cute story moments. I remember the 'concealed weapon' one was taken near the end. He just wrapped his shirt a little tighter around him as he moved to the mic to sing the last, or penultimate, song. I'm thrilled I got at least a few decent pics to show you all.

This is the link to the Simon Mayo website. It gives the tracklisting and shows that Tim performed Can't Find My Way Home... but unfortunately it says it's no longer available to listen to.

Wow, Lou, thanks for all those pics. Shame you didn't come down to the front row, and say hello to us lucky ones. :) We were looking for you, and at one time, turned around mouthing 'Troubadour' in case you could lip read. :) The problem was that we (well, me at least) didn't know whether we were looking for a 20-year old with a 40-year old mum, or a 60-year old with an 80-year old mum. :-D

as I'm sure that there can't have been two people at the stage door with hair as short as that! (And so guess who else got one of those picks. Admittedly, not first-hand from the man himself, but definitely touched by him! :thud:)

I now wish I'd been a groupie and gone to Manchester and Birmingham , though I'm not sure if they were 'standing' venues, and a dodgy knee means I can't do standing.

Lou has already filled you in with a lot of the details (I've been in London overnight, and most of today, so didn't get home till teatime), but I can tell you (most of) what Tim sang as I made a list. About the only thing I was capable of once he'd played the first few notes of the opening number - one of my absolute favourites - 'The shadow'. :weep::weep::weep:does not describe me.
Tim then said 'Thanks for coming on a school night, but let's pretend it's Friday night'. I'll leave you all to guess what came next!
That was followed by 'I don't mind' which had a false start. Can't remember if he got the wrong key, or the wrong words, but I do know he had to start again. (As if we cared - it meant that we got to have a few extra seconds in his company!)
Compassion seems a lot more 'powerful' when sung live, compared to the CD, and was followed by 'One more mile' with Herman ( the drummer) shaking a nice line in lime green and shocking pink rattles. :)

As Troubadour has said, Tim then said 'Look, I've got my bass on', and then sang 'I can't tell you why'.
He then said a word 'which is a seven-syllable word - I done good there' - and I've just been racking my brains what the word was, but I think it was 'autobiographical' because he sang 'White boy from Sacramento'. The middle one of the backing girls especially looked to be having a ball. As Lou has already said, that's when Tim spoke about the girls being the frosting/icing on the cake.

Wew had a bit of Poco time, and probably my favourite one of theirs with Tim - 'Keep on trying'. (Cue more :weep:from moi.)
Tim told the story of how Richie originally wrote this next song for Tim, but events in Richie's own life took over so in the end Richie sang it himself - 'What am I gonna do?'

Tim then introduced his band. Chris Farmer on keyboard, backing vocals, and must have been on guitar at times too. Tim said that Chris had sung with the Beach Boys/been a Beach Boy for some time. (Chris info http://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisfarmermusic)
Herman Matthews, drummer. The first link I checked for Herman is obviously a little out of date as it says he's working with Tom Jones. :)
Bobby (Carlos??)- sorry Bobby, I didn't positively hear your surname.
The girls - Marlena, Lynn, and (sounded like Mortinet. I really must get a hearing aid!)
And finally Hank Linderman, who engineered all of Expando, and has also worked with Tim on Feed the fire.

That was followed by 'Parachute', which simply ROCKED. :yay:
'I don't mind' was followed by 'Ella Jean'. Troub has already told you the story about the song, and to my mind Ella Jean is another song which sounds much better live than on the CD.
When Tim got to 'these shoes are killing me' in 'Downtime I gave a little grin because I remembered how two Borderers had to change their shoes before one of Tim's US shows. (You'll know who you are!)
I can't remember if Tim left the stage after 'Secular praise', or whether it was just the other band members who left, leaving Tim on his own to sing 'Can't find my way home'. I spoke to Herman at the stage door (not quite on a level with making eye contact with Tim!) and he confirmed that Tim hadn't sung the song at either Manchester or Birmingham. Herman actually said 'it's a different show every night', so I wished even more that I'd gone to Manchester and Birmingham after that.
Then Paul Carrack came on stage to join Tim on 'I don't want to hear it any more'.
After that, it was just Tim and Chris (Farmer) with 'Love will keep us alive'. Chris's voice just blended so well with Tim's. A really magical performance for me.

I notice that Troub says Tim sang 'A good day'. As that's not on my list, I can't say whereabouts in the list he sang it. (I've made a note to pay more attention next time I go see Tim. :) )

A brilliant, magical, wonderful, night.

And thank you also for trying to sort out my camera. I did manage one pic (not very good compared to yours and Lou's) but then I couldn't turn the flash off again for some reason, so had to give up.:cuss:And :machinegun:to technology.

Talking of cameras -
Borderers may remember me saying that the Cadogan Hall state 'no cameras, no recordings, etc'. Before the show started everyone is taking pics, and then this guy walked out, along the stage, and a couple of Borderers (naming no names!!) hastily started putting their cameras away as we were convinced he was coming to confiscate them!

Welcome home UKTF (it's just past tea time here in Illinois!) So glad you enjoyed the show and got a pick!
Thanks for the wonderful review and the nice photos.

It was Soda and I whose shoes were killing us after the Chicago show. :hilarious:

Speaking of the Chicago show, I wanted to remind everybody that it was Timothy's third show (I think) and he was just a little nervous. And who wouldn't be? We were literally standing at his feet! Also, our show was on October 18, just days before the album was released. So except for the snippets we had heard of Parachute and Friday Night, we had not heard any of these songs! We were hoping they might be selling the CD at the venue, but they weren't. Needless to say, after hearing the songs live we couldn't wait until we could purchase the CD!

Thanks so much for all the extra details, UK TimFan - it was "autobiographical", I'd forgotten about that bit! Too cute.

We were looking for you, and at one time, turned around mouthing 'Troubadour' in case you could lip read.

That just made me laugh so hard! I'm really sorry I didn't make the move and come and say hello. I'd guessed the small group of gals at the front must include some Borderers, but honestly, I couldn't remember exactly who was going... and I didn't want to make an idiot of myself! So... you mean you were right next to me at stage door?! How weird is that. I was in the knee-length brown suede jacket and jeans... long, kinda curly dark hair... (More on the 20-side than the 60-side! LOL!) Now I really wish I'd arranged to meet you guys BEFORE the show.

Still. I'm glad it worked out well for all of us. The picks were a bonus! Thanks again for filling in those extra details I'd forgotten. I knew we'd get there between us. ;)

Before the show started everyone is taking pics, and then this guy walked out, along the stage, and a couple of Borderers (naming no names!!) hastily started putting their cameras away as we were convinced he was coming to confiscate them!

:hilarious: I thought you were going to say that he ended up taking your picture!
That's what Hal did in Chicago before the show, and look - it ended up on his website!
Several of us are in this picture!

It is indeed. I know Lou texted me about 24 hours ago just after she'd met Tim, and she was just sooooooo high!
All I can say Lou is that I'm delighted you had such a wonderful night, that the show was fantastic and that Tim was so nice. Your pictures are wonderful as well, and your sheer joy and enthusiasm just bubbled throughout.

But ya know what (notwithstanding all the other Borders here) It couldn't have happened to a nicer gal!

Btw(the guy who took our picture, put it on his site), his name is Hank. He is Tim's engineer and mainly plays lead guitar on the tour. :)

Wow, what a night! Great to read all about it! I think the best part (after meeting Tim and getting the picks) would have been hearing the Steve Winwood song...I love him! Lucky!

Can I just say, there's something about this picture!!

And my memory must be better than I thought. I had the Simon part right about the show he sang Can't Find My Way Home on.

It sounds like a magnificent night - splendid time for all indeed! And to hear a song that he didn't do at other songs... how special! Wish I could've been there!

I did say I'd post another little snippet, though it's not really anything much.

Once I'd staggered up the stairs to the hall, I was greeted by a very nice young lady at the door who thought she would be able to tell me the whereabouts of my seat. However I told her that I knew exactly where my seat was. At interval time when I went to collect my coat from the cloakroom she remembered me and that I'd made a comment about the stairs, so pointed me in the direction of the lift.
Come leaving time, she was still standing at the door, and we spoke about Tim, and she said that she'd enjoyed his performance. I asked if she was likely to meet him, and she said that sometimes they met the artists, but as they thought Tim was supposed to finish about 10 (it was then just after 10.30) she thought it unlikely.
I don't know about the others who went to London, but I thought that the performance was due to start at 7.30, but in the end it didn't start until 8, so that may have been the reason that Tim finished 'late'.

And, ladies, you will absolutely love this bit........Timothy B Schmit has achieved the impossible.
The queue for the gents (restroom for non-UK readers) was longer than the queue for the ladies.

LOL! That is so true! Sincere thanks from us, Tim.

You're right about the show starting later, UKTF. We got to Cadogan Hall earlier, only to find the notice on the doors saying they opened at 7.30, not 7pm (as our tickets had said.) Maybe that was the reason Tim seemed in a bit of a rush after the show.

I have to wonder at the Chicago show if we could have miraculously walked through the wall and been outside when Timothy left, if we would have gotten a hello and some picks! I remember there were some fans waiting for him outside but do you think he was prepared that early on with picks in his pocket?

Thanks for the review post, Koala. Largely favorable, and I'm particularly pleased to read that at least some of the critics thinks he'll continue with solo work...

Thanks for finding and posting that review, Koala. A decent read, and the last sentence left me feeling very optimistic! I like the use of "arrestingly lovely" as a description of the music. I know what he means.

Nope! Although, it all feels a bit surreal now. I'm thrilled we've got the pictures and picks to remember it by.

I will stress again that Tim seemed very keen to come back. I'm betting that's not the last time the UK will see and hear him solo.

Damn fine evening, Nell Bryden opened the show in fine style. TBS still has a superb voice. The new record 'Expando' took centre stage and was very well recieved. Instead of taking the easy option TBS mostly kept away from the Eagles back catalogue only playing a sublime 'I Can't Tell You Why' and 'Love Will Keep Us Alive' co-written by Paul Carrack who joined TBS in the encore. The two highlights were without the band for Richie Furay's 'What You Gonna Do' and a cover of Steve WInwood's 'Can't Find My Way Home'.
What a great venue too.

I promised Lou I would post this once I remembered to buy a frame and get it put together. And since I've been thinking of Tim a little more often than usual this weekend, decided to run to Walmart and pick up frames for this and some of the other memoribilia I'm trying to get framed.

This isn't the greatest picture of the pictures, :p but you get the idea. It's several pictures that Lou took of the show, including the one where he was handing her the pics, the pic and her ticket stub she so kindly sent me also. (Love ya Lou, you little sweetie!)

Hi There, was one of the picks from the 2007 or 2008 tour ? I am trying to get these to complete my Tim pick collection ?

Gary - I'm sorry you couldn't make the show. The picks were new ones - they just said "Timothy B. Schmit" on one side, and "Expando" on the other.

He did sign a few things, but I didn't have anything with me, unfortunately. Plus, he was in a bit of a rush! I think I posted a clearer shot of the guitar picks earlier on in this thread...
