How nice for the writer that he got his Seinfeld kick.

Good GRIEF.

Schmit, whose long hair looks like it hasn't been cut since Jimmy Carter was President, sang I Don't Want to Hear Anymore before Joe Walsh took over vocal duties for Guilty of the Crime. Both made a case for why Henley and Frey should do most of the lead work for the Eagles.

Mr. Schmit redeemed himself somewhat on I Can't Tell You Why, but both times he sang in the opening stanza — and this is probably more indicative of the dated sound of the two songs — one almost expected a slo-mo montage from Love Story to appear on the three big-screens behind and beside the stage.

Walsh's high-pitched, nasally voice worked better on tracks like Life Is Good, but he remains much more enjoyable to listen to on guitar.

One of the highlights of the second set was Henley's Dirty Laundry, just another song in a lengthy list showcasing his stellar songwriting skills. And still as timely as ever too.

So can there be too much Eagles? Probably. But you can't fault a band for over-delivering.

Are you kidding me? At least get the flippin' titles of the songs right!:-x So glad Henley was there to save the day once again!

What does that part mean?

It means the guy can't write. LOL!:hilarious: What I mean is it doesn't make sense. Of course TBS sang the opening stanzas :rockguitar:and the verse and the chorus. It's his song. What a dimwit.

He obviously doesn't like "silly love songs" or TBS for that matter. But as McCartney replied and I too reply, "...what's wrong with that, I'd like to know?"

And, the crack about his hair was just all wrong. :steviesmack:

Oh, those are fightin' words, Mister Reporter! Don't worry, Timmy, fellow Borderers and I have your back!! Obviously this guy is just jealous of the way TBS probably had every woman in the arena swooning.:inlove:

This is a very rare reviewer that dislikes Timothy's vocals... which are always spot on!

Follow Borders... can there be too much Ealges? I don't think so!

Is Carol Lynn right? Could this writer be such an idiot that he doesn't know what a stanza is?

From Wiki: in popular vocal music, a stanza is typically referred to as a "verse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verse_%28popular_music%29)" (distinct from the refrain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refrain), or "chorus").

So yes, of course Timothy sang in the opening "stanza" but why is that wrong to this writer? And what would it have to do with the "dated sound of the two songs"? It seems that I do more research before I post on The Border that this guy does before he submits his copy to the newspaper!

I was confused by that, too. I guess he means that Timothy's voice sounds dated as soon as he opens his mouth and sings the first few lines.

Just exactly how does a voice sound dated? Whatever. The writer is clueless in more ways than one.

That's it - of course the reviewers don't have to be hardcore fans, but they should have a vague idea what they are talking about. The Seinfeld references were to use the word you all use 'lame'.

At least Glenn's vocals weren't criticised, because they weren't mentioned (in the anti Schmit review).

It makes a change for Joe's solo material to be described as the 'best'. As for The Long Run being 'bluesy' I would say it has a vague R&B feel about it.

Freypower

What does that part mean?

I wonder if the use of the word 'stanza' here might mean 'opening section' i.e. the first half of the show. The word is sometimes used this way down here when talking about a Rugby League game: 'the Roosters played well in the first stanza but then fell apart' (story of my life)..... I know it's an unconventional use of the word but if you consider that Tim sings two songs before intermission that's probably what it means.

Geez, these reporters must have a competition to see who likes the Eagles the least and then send the winner to review the concert.

Thanks for posting it Koala, but these are some of the most mediocre and 'God awful' reviews it has been my displeasure to read recently. It tries so hard to be clever it entirely misses the point.

When a critic starts off his Eagles concert review by citing his "favourite movie of all time The Big Lebowski" you know it's gonna suck - it's just a matter of how hard.

I read the comments on this guy's article. Apparently he originally attributed Dirty Laundry to Glenn, and later had to correct it after it was pointed out! LOL! What an idiot. Hey, jerk, this is your JOB - at least get the facts straight.

Obviously, he didn't even really pay attention to the concert. Probably spent the whole night getting drunk and fantasizing about hanging with "The Dude."

That is a pretty negative review isn't it? The one from Canada I mean. I can understand someone not liking a group but even then the opinions stated should be addressed to the ability of the artists and execution of the songs.

Now, I don't think anyone can seriously criticize the ability of Schmit, Frey, Henley and Walsh when it comes to vocals. There are very few parts that they have changed since they were originally performed and recorded in any of the "dusty hits" the author referred to. And, if they are singing them as well now as ever they did, then there is no room for negative critique...Hell...they were obviously popular enough with the original cuts to be one of if not the most popular band in history. And, they are doing those songs the same way today!

I guess I don't get it other than to walk away from reading that review with the thought that the Critic didn't like the Eagles. Big Deal! I didn't particularly like a lot groups but there were obviously a lot of people who did like them. Were I to critique them, I would be critiquing their performance compared to their original accomplishments.

Now, if he was expressing his appreciation of the new cuts on Long Road Out Of Eden, fine. It's new stuff. He had nothing to compare it to. But again, he has to look at the success the double CD had out on the market. All he is saying is that He has poor tastes!

Ridiculous

With three virtually sold out Vancouver shows in a week this reporter must be in the teeny tiny minority of Canadians who don't love our boys.
