I don't believe it!

Underdogs Ireland have beaten Australia 15 - 6!

Well done to Ireland and of course commiserations to a gallant Australian team.

I had a feeling they would pull something out of the bag. You could tell how fired up the Irish side were - especially Brian O'Driscoll. It's his last World Cup, so he wanted to leave a mark! I was on the edge of my seat, cheering them on. So, so happy that they won. A truly courageous performance. I hope England show the same intensity, grit and passion tomorrow.

Thanks, Lis - I'm relieved that we got a win today. It should have been a given against Georgia, but after England's last performance, I was a bit nervous! Anyway, we had some discipline issues, but overall, we did fairly well. I do worry about how we will compete with teams of a higher level if we don't improve, but for today, we secured a win with a big points margin. I'm not going to be too critical. :)

Switching to NFL, I would have loved to have seen the Colts and the Cardinals get wins today. Unfortunately that didn't happen, although the Cards only lost by a single point. I feel for the Colts at the moment - I really hope they can get a win to get some confidence back, but they're obviously having a difficult time. Got my fingers crossed that Peyton makes a good and full recovery after his neck surgery. It looks like he will be out for a while yet, though.

Well its been a great week for Sport if you're from Dublin (a Dub). The Dublin senior Gaelic football team made it into their first All Ireland final in years, against the old enemy Kerry. Dublin and Kerry between them have won more All Irelands than the other 32 county teams put together. Tickets for the event were retailing at over €1000 each coming up to Sunday's final.

The match was excellent, with the lead changing 5 times over the course, and with 6 minutes to go Kerry were starting to inch away. Suddenly Dublin got a goal (3 points) and another point to draw level. At fulltime the teams were level and remained so for a minute and a half of the injury 2 mins extra. The Dublin were awarded a free kick 'in'. They pushed all their men forward and got their keeper up to take the free. the whole city was silent as he kicked the ball.................................

............................... over the bar!!!!! The whistle blew just at the restart, and Dublin won the Sam Maguire cup for the first time in 16 years.

The city has been celebrating since, the kids have forgotten what homework is and there was a civic reception attended by 40,000 people (myself and Chris included) last night.

Here's a few pics of the revelry!

Dublin Captain Bryan Cullen lifts the cup.

The cup (again). This is what its all about!

I may have gotten my PhD at Purdue but I did my undergrad at Texas A&M University and I'll always be a Texas Aggie in my heart. A Thanksgiving tradition in our family has always been watching Texas A&M play their longstanding rival University of Texas on the football field.

Sadly, this year is the last time these two teams will face each other as members of the same conference. Texas A&M has changed conferences and any games played against UT would be essentially exhibition games. At this point, the next TAMU/UT game might not be until 2019!

So, tonight of all nights, I hope with all my heart that the Aggies will SAW VARSITY'S HORNS OFF and end this rivalry victorious!

I'm happy again because Liverpool knocked their great rivals Man Utd out of the FA Cup 2-1. They are also in the Carling Cup final after beating Man City. So it's possible that Liverpool could win two trophies while all Man Utd have left are the actual premiership & the Europa League (and I can't see them winning that).

It's been a pretty disappointing season overall but....

My rugby union team, Harlequins, won the Aviva Premiership today for the very first time. The club is 140 years old. It was a fantastic game and I am just ecstatic. They played incredibly well all season and totally deserve this victory! LOVE THE QUINS! A special mention to Chris Robshaw. He is my age (26) and he has captained both Harlequins and England to recent victory. He has a great head on his shoulders.

Those few of us Europeans on the Border would be aware that the UEFA soccer championship finals are on in Poland and Ukraine at the moment. Of 'Borderer' countries represented, England have done well holding France to a draw! Germany have beaten Portugal, the Netherlands lost 1-0 to Denmark!

At the bottom of the pile is Ireland us having lost 3-1 to Croatia!

If Ireland had held the 1-1 score at half time they'd have started the second half in a much better petition mentally. The second Croatian goal so close to half time knocked the stuffing out of them. btw, Jordan has two brothers in the NHL and in the last six finals, they have all three won Stanley Cups. 2007 - Eric in Carolina, 2009 - Jordan, 2012 - Marc in NY Rangers. I think those are the right names. Anyway, how you like to be those parents?

Sorry, VA! Sucks to lose a favourite player to another team.

I'm proud of my English rugby boys, despite losing the test series against South Africa. They are a young team and I think they have learnt a lot. The last game was a draw, which is an achievement when playing South Africa on their own turf in Port Elizabeth. (They haven't lost there for 38 years.) I have high hopes for 2015 and I am behind them 100%!

I didn't want to say anything! It was an incredible game to watch. The All Black attack was very good, but the defense was amazing. Great to see some new players doing well, and I'm really looking forward to seeing all the young players from around the world develop over the next few years.

The Irish fans seemed to have a good time despite the score. Nice to see.

And FP - I think contracts stopped being binding when teams realised they could just pay a $$$ penalty for breaking them

I live in Richmond which is on the Nascar circuit twice a year (May and September) and this just happens to be 'race' weekend here as we call it. I'm not a race fan, but a few years ago I got a free VIP ticket to the race. I had a great time but it was because we were in an air-conditioned, noise-proof VIP box with all the free eats and drinks you wanted. I even had a pit pass that I didn't use. I don't tell this story to many folks around here because they think I'm a heretic. Now maybe you should call my mother's cable company and get The Tennis Channel back for her. It took me two years of sending them, ah, strongly worded emails before she finally had the NFL Channel AND have the live games. One Thanksgiving, they did the preshow and then went to some sports documentary so I missed another game. That email was rather blistering because they were charging her extra already for it.

Trying to watch the Ratbirds (Ravens) and Pumpkin Heads (Browns), but it's seriously seriously storming outside, so the signal keeps disappearing. Disappointed that it's not Ed Hochuli as the head referee tonight, since the real refs are back. I missed those biceps...

I'm a Braves fan all the way...but I agree with you there!!

No comment on the 8th inning from me...but I was just about to tear up when Chipper went up to bat (and everyone in the crowd had their cameras out to snap his Last At-Bat)...he was the last of the mid-90s crew, I will miss the dude...

The media and most of the fans were totally behind the players on this. The owners made their counter offer public and made it totally ambiguous so that the fans would then blame the players for not accepting a 'fair' offer. It seems as though it was a political move by the owners and not one of any real substance.

TBF - Yes, I definitely remember Brandon and think of his family often, wondering how they are doing.

It's a great picture, I get a lot of comments on it, even people who cheer for other teams or don't follow hockey at all. I swiped it from Facebook years ago, and I'm glad family and friends of Brandon were able to enjoy it.

Sad. I don't think my Cardinals knew there was a game going on last night. We just couldn't get anything going and they seemed to hit every hole in the field! It was pathetic!
