Awww what a sweetie! I love cats and my cat Midori is spoiled rotten...as is evident in this picture! :D

That is silk she has wrapped around her...yes SILK!!! :D

To make a long story short when my Gramma passed away a few years ago we gave all her clothes away;but we couldn't bear the thought of someone else wearing Gram's housecoat! It's just soo GRAM! So rather than give the silk housecoat away we gave it to Midori and she happily curls up on it everday!

Aawww, I love it when cats and dogs get on! These are all such sweet pets, thanks everyone!

Dana, Muffin looks just like my very old cat, Gemma. She is a fluffy tortoiseshell too, but has no white on her. Gemma was a rescue cat and was an adult when we got her 16 years ago. The ginger one is Jethro. We have had him since a kitten - he's five now.

Such precious babies! My dal is a rescue. As a puppy he was saved from the pound by a breeder. He had demodic mange which is passed down from the mother.(not contagious) I don't know if he was thrown in the pound for having it or if he was just the runt and unwanted and the stress allowed the mange to take hold. The breeder placed him with a teenager and her mother who lived in San Francisco. They returned him to the breeder when the mange relapsed and he wasn't fun anymore. She got him cleared up and and he found his forever home with us. Shortly after placement with us he relapsed again. I called the breeder to get the name of her vet and she told me the Rescue club would pay for those meds for life. I figured they could use the money elsewhere and took care of him myself. He hasn't had a relapse since.
The cat is also a rescue of sorts. The momma cat had kittens under my sister-in-law's house and she was hit by a car and killed. They found this out the hard way. I'm not sure if there were any other kittens but this one managed to wander out into the yard and about 10 days old. My daughter was staying with my mother-in-law while I was stuck in the hospital halfway across the country last summer after having a heart attack. My daughter bottle fed the kitten and saved his life while the doctors were saving mine. As you can imagine...when I got home I had to let her keep the kitty. So now I have a dog the thinks he's a people and a cat that thinks he's a dog. Sigh.

PLS, your dog and kitty are beautiful! Yes, our cats could be twins they are so black! I don't think you mentioned their names though. I love people's pet names. I always have such a hard time naming one. Then I think of a better one once I have done it!

Here is another shot of Beyonce hanging out by the fireplace and the presents. She has searched high and low and can't find one gift with her name on it! Now she's exhausted! She's also miserable because I tied the red ribbon on her for Christmas! She hates that or her collar! Poor baby! That's my son's legs!

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/desperado74/Family/BeyonceBell.jpg

She is about 4 years old and I also got her at the shelter. She had been there for about a year. I looked at all the cats and just kept going back to her, she was so pretty and big. She weighs about 15 pounds. She would sit by the door to the cage and look so longingly at me that I couldn't resist her. And we've been buds ever since! :D

Ooops, sorry Brooke. Allow me to introduce my babies. The dal was a year old when I got him so he came with the highly original name of Spotty. With the kitten...my 4 year old grandson had just been to Disneyland for the first time and named the cat Mickey Mouse. We have since dropped the Mouse part. lol There's really no point in naming my animals as I always call them "Momma's Baby". And they both answer to it. I'm not sure if Mickey knows his name since it's "Baby" when he's good and "CAT!" when he's in trouble.

glenneaglesfan

I'd like to think some of those weird pictures are computer generated.

DF, Muffin's older twin, Gemma, is in fine form. Despite her age she still manages a scary leap to the garage roof and back, and gives young Jethro a piece of her mind when he is boisterous!

We don't have any animals but let me say all those cats look absolutely adorable. I visited my Aunt once in North Wales when I was about 18, she had two beautiful cats, but unfortunately both my brother and myself developed an allergic reaction to them (well to their hair) similar to very bad hay fever :!: We were on some sort of powerful anti inflammatory which totally zonked us for the rest of the holiday. So from there on in its been admire from a distance :D

Cassie is all black and Brooke is black and white with a pink nose, mouth and pads. We call her the rabbit!!! I don't have any pics of them, but Hayley has some. I'll try and get her to post them!

This morning, we had to put our 14 1/2 year old black lab, Cinder, down. Her health has been failing pretty quickly as of late, and last night she really had trouble getting up. This morning, no amount of coaxing could make her even try to get up. After calling Peter at school, and giving Tom time to come home, we said our tearful goodbyes to her.

She was a shelter dog. She came to us 8 years ago when we were going through a really bad time and she really attached herself to me. My dog! Steve always said she loved me best because I was the one who rescued her. To tell you the truth, for what she brought to my life, I'm not sure who rescued whom!

This is an older picture of the girls cuddling. As you can see in this picture, her "sister" is going to miss her an awful lot as well. So will I!

Thanks, everyone. This morning especially was very sad and "different." I think it was the first time in 8 years I actually had the bathroom to myself without a dog following me in to keep me company!

Today, I bought a large laundry basket and I'm filling it with some of the "stuff" I know the local Humane Society is always in need of. I'm planning to drop it off later today in Cinder's memory. I just need to find some tennis balls to put in the basket. Gotta include her favorite toy!

glenneaglesfan
05-10-2007, 05:59 AM
Aw, Molly, my cat follows me into the bathroom as well. Your Humane society will be grateful for your donation, and that's a nice way to remember Cinder. Our local Animal Rescue shelter has a nice tradition at Christmas. You can buy ribbons in various colours in memory of pets and people, past and present, and then the ribbons are used to decorate a huge Christmas tree. It looks lovely. Last year they had so many they had to get a second tree.

I found this card in our local shop - I thought it was cute!

Love the card, Kate!

I've been searching pet finder websites and I've visited our local Humane Society twice in the past 3 weeks -including yesterday.
The first time -I missed out on a dog I was interested in by 1/2 hour. Yesterday, the dog I spent time with just wouldn't be a good fit for our family. She was a sweetheart (rub my belly, rub my belly!) but she had been kept outside and we want a dog who will be indoors with us. I think this particular dog would have been quite a wrecking ball in my house before we finally got her settled in. Maybe if I worked out of the house and could be with her all the time....

I cried all the way home from the shelter half from missing Cinder and half from the disappointment of not finding the right dog.

Ah well, we'll keep trying!

Molly, you might think this is crazy - and I guess it's kind of hard to explain - but I believe that for each person who goes looking for one, there is a pet we are "meant" to save. You just haven't reached that dog yet, but "the one" is out there waiting and all of these bumps are just part of the path to him/her.

Molly I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a furry friend. Your comment about the bathroom made me smile. My kitty can be anywhere in the house but somehow he knows when I go into the bathroom. He comes running and then sticks his paw under the door repeatedly. When I open the door he takes off running a few steps, then stops and looks at me like "what? I wasn't doing anything". Remember when your kids got old enough that you could use the bathroom without one of them on your lap? Who knew the animals would be as bad as the 2 year olds? lol

Hang in there Molly. The sadness will get less acute.

It's funny you brought this up, Nancy, coz I think that's exactly what happened today (in an indirect way).

We decided to pass of "Macy", the lab. Today at work, while I was telling my story to some co-workers, I off-handedly mentioned the little "Peek-a-Poo" in the kennel next to Macy. One of my co-workers jumped up so excited. She's owned that breed in the past and has been looking for another to be a companion to the one dog she still has. She called the Humane Society today, and she and her family are going to check out the dog tonight. She could hardly wait until 3:30 rolled around.

As for us, I know we'll find our dog sooner or later. I'm not giving up! It's only been 3 weeks. Yesterday just made me remember coming home from the shelter with Cinder so many years ago.

Well, I guess you all were right! This week we found an absolute sweetheart to make a part of our family! This is Layla and she's a 1 year old black lab. She was brought into our local shelter as a stray. No tags, no microchip-nothing. She's soooo well-behaved. She's mellow and well-mannered. We haven't even heard her bark yet-she's so quiet. So far, she's getting along very well with Molly (my chocolate lab-not me). And of course, being a lab, she's a cuddler. She reminds us so much of Cinder, it's almost scary! We are completely head over heels for this little girl.

aww Brooke Beyonce is soo cute! :D

My kitty Midori has new trick herself; she has learned to climb into a window that is 8 feet off the ground!!

In front of this window is a bookshelf that goes up about 4 feet and in front of the book shelf is one of 'her' spots. About 2 feet off the floor she has a bed made up against the bookshelf... so she climbed from her bed jumped on to the top of the bookshelf (eeek) and then jumped the remaining 4 feet up to the open (screened) window. But what really amazed me was the window has shades in front of it so she was able to figure out that she had to wait til the wind was blowing the shades out and THEN she jumped up into the window!!  :D This cat is WAYYY too smart!

This is my dog Oscar. He's an Airedale and Irish Terrier mix. He's 3 and a half. My family got him 2 years ago. He was rescued by a foster mom from the pound where he was a day away from being put to sleep. He was found tied up to a truck. The foster mom rescued him from the pound and took care of him while he was up for adoption and my mom and youngest brother Alex found him and instantly fell in love and the rest is history. Oscar is a pretty stubborn dog but he has a lot of love.

SH, Oscar looks like a real character. Thank goodness he found a happy home with you.

Brooke, that's a cute picture of Beyonce - she really knows how to strike a pose!

Tf, your Midori sounds very intelligent. Our 17 year plus cat Gemma has worked out how to get onto the garage roof, involving leaping from a rickety fence, and if she's lucky and the upstairs window is open, she climbs in, wakes us up, and is very pleased with herself. She and 5 year old Jethro used to avoid each other, but lately they seem to have made friends.

I love my dogs dearly, but some days, I swear! I got home tonight from visiting my sister and of course, immediately let my dogs outside to take care of their "business".

I was bending down to hug my 12 year old chocolate hello, when Layla, the 60 pound puppy, came running towards me full speed and "head butted" me. She hit me so hard, I blacked out for a few seconds! Luckily, the 12 year old broke my fall. Poor old girl!

I don't remember walking back up my driveway and into the garage to sit down, but that's where I ended up. The dogs got so worried and scared someone peed on the garage floor (I double checked-it wasn't me)!

It's now a couple of hours later and I'm still a little dizzy and my head hurts like heck! Can't wait to see how I feel in the morning.

Layla seems to be absolutely unaffected by it all. But then again, labs have melons like cement blocks. She does seem to sense she did something "bad" and looks totally heartbroken.

Poor Layla. I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt you. She sounds like one of our coonhounds (King). If he happens to get loose he will run around like a wild dog and eventually head for you and more than likely run right in to you! I don't know if he is just so excited that he can't see or has just so much energy that he can't veer around you quick enough! We all know to watch out!

Oh my goodness, Molly! I hope the headache is going away.
A couple weeks ago I babysat a...bear?...horse?...cow?...dog! Well, they tell me she's a dog but I swear she must be a cross species.lol She is totally lovable, but absolutely huge! She lives with a bunny so I didn't think anything of having her over with a cat. Umm...not! She saw the cat (who thinks nothing of dogs since he thinks my dog is his brother) and took after him with the hair on the entire length of her spine standing straight up and snarling like to kill. Luckily she's so big she couldn't quite maneuver as quickly as the cat and as he ran past me down the hall I threw my body in her path with both hands out screaming "NO". Mind you, this dog weighs more than I do. She some how put on the brakes before plowing me down and sat on command while the cat ran for cover under my bed. After locking the cat up in a separate part of the house and calming down my daughter (who feared her cat was dead or mangled) I realized that between the two of us the dog would have won the collision.

Wow Molly, I'm no doctor, but if you're still having problems in the morning, maybe you should see one!

Already did -a few times.

My symptoms cleared pretty quickly -though my hair actually hurts my scalp where I'm sure there is probably a nice bruise and my neck is a bit stiff-but otherwise, I'm fine.

Steve was concerned after it happened, and walked next door to talk to our neighbor, Eric, who happens to be a physician. Usually he's not home, but yesterday was his day off and he was actually around. Eric came over to our house and talked to me for a bit, checked my eyes and reflexes, ect. Played 20 questions with me. He checked on me again this morning at the hospital where we both work. I probably saved my insurance company $200 in office visits!

This morning, Layla's favorite toy, Mr. Red Fuzzy Squeaky Guy, was lying on the floor next to my side of the bed. He was lying on the bathroom floor when I got out of the shower. I think she was bringing it to me as a peace offering. As if I could really be upset with her!

Oh, GEF, I'm SO very sorry about your cat! I'm in tears. I know exactly how you feel. My parents and I had a dog, Lobo (a Labrador/Rottweiler cross), who left us at the age of 16 years and 9 months. We got him from neighbours when he was 11 months old. The pain was unbearable for the first week especially, since the house seemed so empty without him. After that I just missed him, and I still miss him. We lost him in September 2003, just three days before my birthday. My thoughts are with you, David and your sons.

Thanks for all your kind words. Gemma was a real character and we are missing her. She has been around for most of the boys' lives. Jethro, our other cat, seems a little subdued, but we have given in and let him sleep on our bed for the last two nights.

MF, it was sad to read about Lobo, but he lived to a ripe old age didn't he?

Mrs Frey
02-07-2008, 08:26 AM
Thanks, GEF. Yes, it is true that he had a good innings, and I suppose we gave him as much love and comfort as we could, which could explain why he lived so long. In fact, it was earlier in 2003 when I started spending more time away from the house as I'd begun playing in my first gigging band. One of my bandmates used to give me a lift at the time as I was not yet driving, and whenever I came home late, Lobo would lie near the door and wait for my return. He actually became quite jealous sometimes and would give me strange looks when I went to band practice on odd days. He was so perceptive that he would pick up a pattern of my movements. It did not bother him when I went to work, but if I went somewhere over weekends it concerned him, and of course when I returned late from a practice. He actually gave my bandmate a hard time one late afternoon when he dropped me off. Lobo gave him quite a fright with his fierce greeting!

Whenever I would retreat to my bedroom for quiet time in the evening, he would follow me and seconds later my bedroom door would get scratched. I would then let him in and he would lie in my room until his "bedtime", which was regularly around 22:00, when he would return to his mat in the main bedroom. It absolutely amazed me how much of a little "person" he'd become, and how he mimicked our habits. He communicated with us quite easily.

Oh, how I miss him. :(

Once again, GEF, I really feel for you.

Aw, thanks dreamer and molly. I had another moment of tears this evening as one week ago she was still by the fireside. The vet (by coincidence called Steve Irwin) handwrote a lovely letter of condolence. Tonight I've sent a cheque to the animal rescue shelter where we first met Gemma.

MF, it was moving to read about Lobo and how sensitive he was. You must miss him even now. One of my childhood cats could here the engine of my dad's car from far up the road and always hopped on the windowsill to greet him. Jethro seems to know when I'm coming home as well. He's usually waiting in the hedge. On Thursdays, when the butchers van comes down our road, Jethro is ready waiting, and hops onto the footplate for his treat of minced beef. These animals know a lot more than we think.

For at least a month after I lost my Duchess I would find myself looking at my bed for my cat every time I walked into my room. The become such an intrinsic part of our lives. I have to agree about the bananas being all we could afford at Pebble Beach - or at least, all I was willing to pay for. Burgers cost $8 - and they didn't even have cheese on them! A measly bag of potato chips cost $3! Best to eat the $1 banana and wait 'til afterwards to have a real meal. Unfortunately, we had a really hard time finding a place in the area at which to eat. We wound up frequenting Chili's quite a bit. In our little pre-car-ride convo with Glenn, when he asked us where we were eating, I joked McDonald's. He replied "Oh, you're too good for that." I decided not to tell them we had eaten breakfast there a few hours ago!

Milton, my current cat, doesn't get people food and therefore doesn't really like it, although he begs for it anyway since he sees me eat it. The exception is people tuna fish. He licks that clean!

And I can attest to the garbage-disposal nature of PLS' dog. In the short time I was at her place, I saw him chomp down an entire pizza crust, not to mention all the pretzels he was thrown! Clever dog!

Our family has had a rough couple of days. My beloved 12 year old chocolate lab, Molly, got sick over the weekend unexpectedly. She got worse and worse very quickly and yesterday, we took her to an emergency vetrinary clinic.

After a few tests, the vet came back with the news that it appeared her abdomen was full of blood, most likely from a blood filled cancerous tumor in her spleen that had ruptured. He gave her no chance for survival.

Steve and I called the boys to come to the clinic (they were both very young when we got Molly and she was definitely in love with her boys). Thankfully, Peter was home from school on Easter break for a few days and was close by since Molly was especially attached to him.

We said our goodbyes and Molly left us peacefully yesterday afternoon. The four of us are truly heartbroken.

Oh Molly, that is very sad. I'm glad you managed to get hold of the boys. it will be hard for them since they have grown up with her, but I'm sure they will look back and appreciate their involvement. When we had to make the decision about Gemma, our recently departed cat, we tried to contact both our sons. Mark was home, and at least had seen her before her last trip to the vet, but we couldn't get hold of Phil until two days later. He's home for Easter now, and is missing her.

Our sympathies. We know what you are all going through and are thinking of you.

Oh Molly – First of all, I am sorry for being so late in responding to this. I'm so sorry about this, especially since it's been less than a year since you lost Cinder. I hope you and the boys are doing okay. I know how much you all loved Molly, and know exactly how you feel to lose your beloved pet. I hope Layla isn’t mourning Molly too much. I know you have many fond memories of both Molly and Cinder that will sustain you in the coming days.

Thank you all for the kind words. The boys, Steve and I are all feeling much better. We have a million Molly stories to tell so we've been having fun doing that. I had a weepy moment this afternoon when I was in the garage looking for something else, and came across Molly's old beat up green frisbee. We threw that frisbee to her until our arms were ready to fall off!

dreamer, Layla is a true Blessing. We're so lucky we found her (or she found us). Otherwise, you're right, after losing both my sweet girls in less than a year, it would be so difficult. We're going to spoil Layla for a while and enjoy having her be the "top dog". She and I had a heart to heart the other night, and I informed her that she's the dog in charge now so she has to stop being such a big baby.

Later this Spring, I'll start searching for another dog to rescue. Unless, of course, one decides to rescue us first!

Here is a picture of my cat, Muffin, sleeping on a towel on a ledge in our bathroom. She is a tortoiseshell with flecks of orange and brown in her coat, and one white paw, but in this picture she looks very black. I have never had a cat with such a long, fluffy tail.

Yeah -I'm a pushover, especially for the shelter animals that are in such need of a family. I would take 10 dogs home with me if I could figure out a way to do it.

I had been checking the shelter website nearly every day. I had checked early morning last week Thursday, and there were no young female labs available. After rushing home from work late (loaded down with groceries, as well), I hurried in to start dinner. The phone rang and it was Steve telling me he was going to be late.

Sooo, having some time- I decided to check the website again...and there she was!!! Apparently, Zoe's picture had only been posted for about 10 minutes when I saw it. I had 20 minutes to rush over to the shelter before they closed for the evening. I made it with 6 minutes to spare. They stayed open and let me spend some time with her.

By the time I left, I knew I'd be coming back the next day to get her. We had to take Layla in to meet her to make sure they got along. I knew they would since Layla loves everyone.

Driving home with Zoe, the radio started playing their "afternoon album side". Friday's album side? "Eagles Live".

Divine intervention!!

I love looking at pictures of everyone's pets! It's so much fun to see what names people have come up with. I tried doing the girl's song names theme, but Zoe looked like a Zoe, so we just left it as is (tho I guess there's a Lenny Kravitz song called Zoe, that I've never actually heard).

Here are my girls on the 4th of July (we proclaimed it Zoe's birthday since we don't know for certain).

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/mollycinder/LaylaandZoe019-2.jpg
Zoe's on the right, Layla the left

Zoe, as it turns out, has a deformed wrist joint on her foreleg that's becoming a painful and obvious problem. Turns out, she also has bad elbow joints and bad hips (I think I know why her other family really got rid of her).

Her elbow is the most serious, so she's scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks. The surgeon will break her wrist and then re-set it with plates and screws. Somehow, we have to keep her quiet for 8 weeks. We may need drugs...for me not Zoe. It's going to be an expensive undertaking, so we have to hope it's successful.

I wish there had been a chapter like that! No, it was one of those books that have adorable pictures and tell you how perfect your life will be with your lab.

Her pile of chew toys was also in the room completely untouched. She's not the first chewer we've had -just the most creative. She's also known to be a thief, a digger, and escape artist and a barker...and still I adore her.

Most of the time, she's an angel, she knows a lot of commands learns quickly and listens well...and then she has these insane moments when she just has to be naughty.

I dont currently have any pictures on this computer of my pets but I'll try and give an accurate discription of them.

We have two cats,
Avalanch- he's all white (hence the name) but, well, if he were human he'd be a member of the AV club, wear high water pants and live in his mothers basement (as an adult). Yeah, he's a bit of a nerd cat. See, he has pink ears and a pink belly that he loves to display in a sexy playboy/girl pose(VERY unmasculin) but he does occasionally catch a bird (How I have no idea since he usually falls off of fences, chairs, tables, high ground) He's in love with the dog.

Spooky - I adopted Spook from my M&D. My Dad had a terrible allergic reaction from him. He's all black and has very short fur and huge yellow eyes (hence HIS name) I think he has bad eyesight but I have not been able to find any kitty reading glasses. He lives in the garden in the summer and takes care of such threats as the hose and stray cherry tomatoes. He's a Momma's boy.

We have a Golden Retriever who's a very sweet old lady. She disdanes the cat but puts up with his amorous affections. She smells usually (Goldens have an oil in their fur to protect their skin from the water. They love the water) Her name is Rosie and she lives for trips to the cabin where she rarely leaves the river. She chews on rocks she pulls from the bottom of the river and chases the oozle (oozlefinch) who lives by the river (they have a love/hate relationship) Other then that, she sleeps in the middle of the kitchen where she is a great door stop!

Sarah has a guinea pig names cocoa who thinks she's the Lion King. My theory is her cage is in the living room near the TV and she's seen the movie one too many times. She likes to perch on top of her shoe box and stand majestically with her head in the air then runs wildly around her cage. She also gweeps (thats the sound she makes "gweepgweepgweep)

I think thats it. OH, no, Jenni has a fish named Winston Churchill. THATS it.

Ticky, your pets sound like real characters. I'd love to have a dog and a cat living in harmony, but our cats have always been wary of dogs. If we ever got a dog, it would be a Border Collie. I love your interpretation of guinea pig talk! We used to have two rescued guinea pigs, Kiki and Snowi. Snowi used to manage to manhandle their food bowl up a step into their den! We loved the way they talked!

Aw, such cute pictures! (Can't wait to see yours, ticky!) My cat Milton is his usual grumpy self. His latest idea of fun is climbing on top of one of my bookcases (the one which is against the wall near my bed), getting on his hind legs, and beating the wall with his paws as he meows until I wake up and feed him.

Soda, lol! I love the way cats subtly hint that it's breakfast time. Jethro just leaps on the bed and gives you full on attention until you give in (even if it's 5.30 in the morning!)

Spooky is very polite. He waits till we get up and asks nicely for food, to go out or just to be petted. Avalanch walks on Cliff's clock radio till it goes off or just sits on my face.

Buddy & Gracie are so cute!
Cats definitely have personality. We had a group of friends over to watch the Alabama football game last Saturday. We have a pool table in our den so during halftime, one of our friends started to play pool. Her ball stopped just short of the pocket, so our cat Muffin jumped on the pool table and batted at her ball until it went in. She is SO helpful!

Ok, I finally got some pictures of my Beasts. Avalanche and I spent some quality time in the garden, me trying to walk, him in amorous overload. Thats why you can see the tip of my most attractive garden crocs in most of the pictures.

This is my Spook. He's all black and likes to sleep in dark places, like the big chair or the corner of the sofa. It makes for some exciting moments when you go to sit down.

And this is Rosie. She's an old lady and here she's in her natural habitat, The water.. or the grass by the water.

I still need to take a picture of the guinea pig, but she's camera shy because she's having a perpetual bad hair day..
