It would be so cool to see this performance but sadly only one episode has turned up in all these years, so it's all presumed lost. Sad.

Awful nice to see you On the Border again, Scarlet Sun. I have “Let It Be” on VHS somewhere, but never watched more than a few minutes. Didn’t realize that Glyn was in it. Hopefully some generous soul has posted it on the YouTubes.
Thanks. I don't think he appears in it, he just recorded and engineered it

As you know, Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band appeared on a short-lived tv show called "Get It Together" in 1970. Clever people - not me - have found a scan of an article that 16 Magazine did on the show, which was hosted by Cass Elliott. http://lostmediawiki.com/Get_It_Together_(partially_found_music_TV_show;_19 70)?fbclid=IwAR2sK0eaBVP5lyS6Q2yhmZxuQ3X7V3o-ydKIv459C1Kaf0mbaYuD-C9Ru5U (https://lostmediawiki.com/Get_It_Together_(partially_found_music_TV_show;_19 70)?fbclid=IwAR2sK0eaBVP5lyS6Q2yhmZxuQ3X7V3o-ydKIv459C1Kaf0mbaYuD-C9Ru5U)

This is so cool! Much gratitude to the person who discovered it. That backdrop looks familiar— was it used for The Dating Game or am I off here?

Randy as usual looking his cute self. :inlove:

One never knows but you’re probably right.

Since then I've emailed the archivist for the production company that owns & licenses the program. He said the Rick Nelson episode no longer exists. :(

Is it too much to hope that a copy of the tape exists somewhere, perhaps in ABC's library? Or anyone's library - it was a syndicated program, shown all over the country. Best not to think of it.

It’s wishful thinking I know, but just imagine if someone at the production company surreptitiously made copies of some of these old programs and these long-forgotten reels are being stored in a basement or attic somewhere, waiting to be discovered. Sigh.

Randy’s friend and occasional songwriting collaborator Bruce Gaitsch has suffered a debilitating stroke. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0wESV5rSxNmAbmyAGA1eNAphZf5NNjEngA63mNe dWtHwAy2CI3kwcV43g&v=HrPe9wAXtpo

Oh no, that’s terrible. I hope he recovers and gets well soon.

He also worked on some of Timothy’s albums.

Awesome NMB. I love it when these old treasures just show up out of nowhere.

Wow! What a cool find! I love little things like this.

I am fairly certain this Mercury was NOT on the album cover. It is my understanding from my father that Randy had several Mercuries and this was just one of them. This is not a restored car, but a custom car that Randy owned. I did LOVE the green one on the album cover, though!

Here is another image of the car that I took.

Hello HuskerPete, welcome to The Border!

Thanks for posting the picture and for the info. Randy was such a car guy and owning one that he used to drive is so cool!

I hope I'm not stepping afoul of the rules, but this is too special not to share: a 1998 article from Randy's hometown newspaper on the occasion of the Eagles induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with quotes from Randy's proud mama Emilie, "I always knew he was bound for something big." https://imgur.com/a/R82PRpU

Having some trouble posting page 2. If this doesn't work, I'll try typing it out. https://imgur.com/UAPE3Ps

Thanks for posting, NightMistBlue. Proud MaMa indeed. She was correct, the R&R HOF is quite a big deal! :applause:

Thanks, NMB, great find. I’ve been looking for a pre-RnR HoF interview of Randy and his mother—I wonder if this is it. Probably so.

I had never even heard of Mrs. Meis speaking to the press, so was gobsmacked when a FB friend found this. I hope Mama Meisner somehow got to watch the ceremony (the newspaper noted that VH1 was not available in the area) and hear her son thank his parents in his acceptance speech.

How precious to think of little Randy imitating Elvis around the house

I vaguely remember hearing something about Randy's mom's interview before, but I don't remember if I ever actually read it before or not.

In any event, it doesn't matter because you can never read this kind of stuff too many times. Thanks, NMB!

The Meis is part of a Rock Cellar article asking rock musicians what their all-time favorite concert was. I have no idea when the interview was done, but the show Randy saw was likely between 1983, when The Band resumed touring without Robbie Robertson, and 1986 when Richard Manuel tragically committed suicide.

Randy Meisner (The Eagles): The best show I’ve ever seen bar none was The Band, who along with Bob Dylan are my favorite artists of all time. I saw them at Filthy McNasty’s, a little funky club in North Hollywood. I don’t go to a lot of concerts but that show still sticks in my brain. They did all their big hits, “Up on Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and “Rag Mama Rag.” It was all the original members except for Robbie Robertson. The music was so powerful and organic. Every song impressed me. They could do no wrong. They were all about the music and nothing else. I love Garth Hudson’s organ playing, he’s magnificent. Rick Danko was fabulous too and sadly he’s gone, as is Richard Manuel. If Bob Dylan had been there I would have been even happier; I probably would have fainted. (laughs)

Love to see Randy pop up!

Anyone who's seen The Last Waltz knows what a privilege it must have been for Randy to witness that first hand!

I wonder if Mr. Randy knows that Bob Dylan mentions “Take It to the Limit” in his newish song “Murder Most Foul.”

NMB - Thanks for posting this ! Boy, I would have loved to see the Band. Saw the movie many, many years ago on tv. Very cool that Randy got to see that concert ! Soda - Thanks for posting that video - I love that song ! I also really love Joan B.'s version too.

Thanks NMB. Yeah, it's funny how Joan Baez's cover turned out to be the definitive version of the song for most people.

Joan Baez’s version is the one I was most familiar with, because it was on the radio when I was a child. Later, when MTV came along, I saw The Band clip with Levon Helm singing lead. They’re both great. EDIT: holy smokes, I assumed it was an old folk song, possibly even Civil War era. It was written by Robbie Robertson! Oh my. It sounds so genuine and real, if you know what I mean. Gah.

Surely someone told him? That song was a bit difficult to listen to, lol, but it it was very cool that he included the reference.

Yes, it feels like the singer knows first-hand what it feels like to be completely broken down by the Northern army, to lose everything in the name of a hopeless cause. It was all from Robertson's research of the era, though, and his ability to put himself in another man's shoes and tell a good story. Well done, Robbie!

This is a great item giving some insight into Mr. Meisner’s musical tastes. Thanks for posting another gem!

As an aside, the club was re-named The Central in the early 80s but maybe Randy still referred to it under the former name. Also, the owner of the club had another one named FM Station in North Hollywood where The Band did indeed play. Anyway, this stuff about Randy is cool to know.
