I've been catching up on Google Alerts tonight, and came across this Chicago radio interview with Steve Dahl in 2008. I'm a bit confused as to why this is just being posted, but it is very entertaining nonetheless. I looked to see if we had this in an old thread, but I didn't see it. It's worth listening to even if you heard it before. I'm pretty certain I've never heard it because Joe gives a very interesting piece of trivia about his middle name that I was unaware of. Apparently Joe's surname at birth was Fidler. His mother remarried and Joe was adopted by his stepfather around the age of 5. He then became Joseph Fidler Walsh.

COOL!! I cant believe you found it!! I had this interview linked on my Joe page, but the station archived it and Steve Dahl never answered my emails. This is a great interview. Listen to the last half, right towards the end they do a short radio skit where Joe plays the part of a bar fly. It's hilarious!

Steve Dahl never answered my emails. This is a great interview.
They cut out the part of the idiot asking Joe if he'd played Guitar Hero....gah. Dahl lettem have it...Joe IS the Guitar Hero...lol.
I always listenedd to Dahl when Joe was in town, 'cause I knew he'd be doing Dahl's show. He said things to Steve he didn't talk about with anybody else. Dahl left the JACKFM station about a month or so after this interview, probly why he didn't answer.
I'd sure like to hear some off the stories they can't tell on the radio, bet they're a hoot n a half...

I have always wondered this about Glenn's surname. Is it his birth surname or his stepfather's surname? It's interesting that they both went through this.

Well - not to take this off topic from Joe, but I always assumed that Glenn was adopted by his stepfather and took his name as well. His mother and stepbrothers surnames are all Frey.

This thread isn't about Glenn, but I do want to add what little I know to what's been said for the purposes of clarification: As far as I know, Glenn, Alan, and Matt all have the same mother, at least - her name is Nellie (as anyone can read in the Rolling Stone article from 1979).

Since we know Glenn's mother got remarried when he was little, it seems natural to assume that Nellie's husband Eddie Frey must be Glenn's stepfather and that Alan and Matt are half-brothers. However, I've heard conflicting reports about that (I get lots of e-mails from people who knew him "way back when" and people who claim to be related to him - that's how I found out about Matt, in fact, since Glenn has never spoken of him to the press). If this guy (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=80488&postcount=72) is telling the truth, Glenn is tracing his ancestry through the name Frey, so make of that what you will. That guy could be full of crap, who knows.

At any rate, since Glenn refers to Eddie as "dad" in the Soul Searchin' liner notes and has never spoken of any birth father, I guess it's none of our business.

I was FREAKIN" OUT too bad to read the article carefully after I saw the headline. After the second time thru I finally got the Crafty Lil' wordsmith Dahl's meaning. WHEW.....

This was also posted in the Chicago thread, and my breath caught in my throat too as I read the headline! Dahl's no dummy - he must have known how it would read. Shame on him! :fingerwag: ;-)
