Thanks Koala - could be the copious amount of wine i've drunk tonight, but I felt the urge to leave a comment! :brickwall:

Hi everyone! I can't tell you how great it is to be able to post about another Eagles concert--I thought their last concert in Birmingham would be the last time I would get to see them. My friend Lynda and & just got back from Atlanta, and the show although short, was fantastic.

Biggest surprise: they opened up with Seven Bridges Road! I have always wanted to hear that live so I was thrilled. We got to the park at 4 pm and waited for an hour for them to open the gates, and as we were waiting we heard them singing Seven Bridges Road in their sound check. I was hoping that meant they would sing it, and they did. The key was a little different than the record but it still sounded great. All the guys looked great too. Joe looks thinner but I really like his longer blonde hair. Don now has a gray goatee and his hair is the natural gray too. He looked FINE. *sigh* We were standing third row center left, right in front of the stage in front of Timothy (Lynda's favorite) and Don, perfect sightlines.

They sang their abbreviated set list, so the only song we got from LROOE was How Long. Although I miss Don drumming, selfishly I like him being out front now so I can see him. His voice was fabulous, he holds a guitar on most songs, and on a few songs he even took the mic off the mic stand and walked around with it, like he does in his solo shows. Witchy Woman was a highlight--he really got into it, shaking the tamborine and wailing. When Glenn was doing the introductions he said "On dr--I mean percussion--guitar and lead vocals, my friend from Linden Texas, Don Henley."

They hardly talked at all, which was a disappointment. Glenn didn't do his usual corny jokes, and they only time he really asked us to sing along was during Lying Eyes. I expected Don to make some mention of the fact that this was a Green Concert for Piedmont Park, but he didn't. Still, they were in fine form, sounded fantastic, and grinned and waved several times at us in the first few rows. The weather was perfect for an outdoor concert, clear and cool with a sliver of moon over the Atlanta skyline.

Second biggest surprise: They came back for a second oncore AFTER Desperado! I was already picking up my stuff to head out since I have never seen them do that before, and the next thing I know Don was back center stage and said, "Do you want another song?" We all screamed like crazy and he said, "I'll take that as a yes." Then he went over to the side to talk to Glenn and came back out front and said, "Give us a moment to get ready--this was a surprise decision." The "mighty horn" section had already taken off their black coats and came back out in an assortment of different t-shirts--pretty funny. They decided on All She Wants To Do is Dance, and Glenn of course danced all over the stage, and it was terrific--it brought down the house (I mean--park).

I bought a great t-shirt designed especially for this show. The design is an Eagle with its wings made out of gray leaves, and the middle of the design the leaves are green like a tree, and it says "Eagles, The Green Concert, Piedmont Park Atlanta Ga, Oct 15, 2010."

Oohh Sounds fabulous Donfan - so glad you had a great time and a bonus song too! I'd love to see a pic of the t-shirt if you could manage it. Really thrilled you caught the show ~ I will too ~ One day!

Thanks so much for the great review, DF. I'm so glad that you got to go and got to be so close. I was so surprised to read that they did a song after Desperado. That's gotta be a first, right? It's great to know that they actually changed things up a bit. I mean, I know they've taken out and added a few songs here and there before but never (to my knowledge) after Desperado.

He definitely is. I've said this before and I'll say it again...Only certain guys can pull off wearing pink. Just like Glenn, Joe pulls it off VERY well.

Thanks for all the comments! I have been reading about Soda and Dreamer's concert experience last night, and I wish I had gotten the full set like they did. I never tire of hearing LROOE live. I did love that Don wished us Happy Halloween after singing Witchy Woman-that is my favorite Halloween song and I play it all month long!

I must add that I was very disappointed in two things at our concert though. We arrived at 5 to stake our place in the VIP seating area, and enjoyed our box dinner and drinks. After staking our place for 3 hours, latecomers crowded in front of us at 8 just before the Eagles began to sing, and Piedmont Park security did NOTHING to aid in crowd control.

Then, after it ended and we tried to make our way out of the park, everyone was tripping over leftover box dinners and beer cans. I wanted to scream: "This was a GREEN concert, wasn't it, Atlanta? We threw away our trash; couldn't you?"

Thanks to everyone for the review & photos but I seem to have missed the story about why Don has not been playing drums. I hope he is alright by the time he gets to Australia. Can someone fill me in on what happened please?

Don had his knee worked on. They had to postpone a few shows a couple weeks ago. Here (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2746) is the thread about it.

I consider myself an Eagles fan, but I have to admit that I was a bit dissapointed by the show in Atlanta. First, while the vocals of these guys were great, the sound mix was terrible in my opinion.
I was not one of the privelidged few that were right up next to the stage, but instead was roaming around the entire grounds (working) and the mix didnt sound much better than it does on the you tube videos people have attached. The band did a VERY short sound check, not sure why, and honestly it was reflected when they hit the stage. No matter where I was, it was 'tinny' sounding, lacked bass, and was just poorly mixed.
The band also changed their starting time, which in turned changed their set list from what was posted in Austin, which was a very good one. As another poster said, there was only one song from their latest, and I was dying to hear many of their latest- never happened.
I too was very suprised they came out for a second encore- and pleased to hear more.
On a final note, I must say that the band did not seem particularly excited about playing- kind of going through the motions.
While I looked forward to the night with great anticipation since it was announced, I left a bit dissapointed- sorry, just MHO!

Welcome E1. Sorry your experience wasn't all you hoped for. They were certainly having a good time in Indianapolis!

I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed, E1. Maybe the sound was worsened by the fact that you were walking around so much?

Hi,

I'm a new poster, and saw that DonFan wrote:

"They sang their abbreviated set list"

I'm thinking of seeing the band and want to know what that means. Did they used to play longer sets? Will they go back to playing longer sets soon? Do we know why the sets are shorter?

Thanks for any help that you can provide

Wildthyme

Sign, they do the shorter set list when they have to based on the venue or the time they have to perform. When they have been part of festivals like ACL they had less time to perform (2 hours) so they used a shortened set list. When they are doing a 'regular" concert where they are the only performers then you can usually expect to get the full set-list.

DonFan, finally got to read your review. I'm so glad you had a good time and it was a nice night for an outdoor show. Bummer about the people getting in front of you when you were there before them.

And another song after Desperado? Fabulous! And pretty unbelievable!

Come back soon. We miss ya!

E1 and sign-welcome to The Border!

How awful! My prayers are with them, too.

DF, I don't think I've thanked you for your review - let me do so now! It blows my mind that they deviated from the planned setlist and threw in a song after Desperado. That kind of spontaneous act is pretty much unheard of at Eagles concerts. How thrilling for you! I'm so glad you got to see them again, even if the setlist was not the full deal.

I, like Dreamer, do not usually like the facial hair on Don nowadays, but...I don't know, I think it must have something to do with the very positive experience I had with him in Indianapolis...I like the beard too!

Ive always been a dreamer

Well - I think this means that I must be like the only woman in the world now that doesn't like Don's gray beard.

DonFan

Nope, Dreamer, I'm not that fond of the gray beard either. I like that he isn't dying his hair anymore, but I prefer him clean-shaven too.
