Thanks again, SS. I wish your band well. But, I just wanted to let you know that your links in this post aren't working for me. I don't know if it's just me or is anyone else having this problem?

I did but I "manually" fixed them when I saw that the problem was the extra "eaglesonlinecentral/forum" in the front.

Thanks for fixing those links, SS. I finally had some time to listen, and I really like your band's stuff. As I said before, I wish you as much success as you would like to have.

And Austin, I had a chance to listen to some of your video too. While much of it is waaayyyy over my head, I'm always impressed with your knowledge.

As I listened to both of you guy's music, I was struck by your talent, but also the difference in your musical styles. You guys represent the same spectrum of music as the Eagles do - country rock to hard rock. Both of these styles appeal to me, as well as, everything in between. I guess that's why I love this band so much and why they have such mass appeal. Like the band, you guy's offer a little something for everyone, and it's all really good stuff!

Keep on rockin', guys!!!

Thank you!!!

I definitely come from the hard rock school although I have many influences... I grew up hearing AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, Ratt, KISS, Foreigner, Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, etc in the house and that's what I heard when I was growing up. My mom is a big 80s hair metal fan and so I heard her listening to stuff like Motley Crue, Ratt, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, etc. My dad is a more "classic rock" fan and would listen to AC/DC, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. She was an 80s child though - that was the stuff she heard in school. Where as my dad mainly listened to late 70s rock as he's a bit older than her.

So I heard both 70s and 80s music in the house. When I would go to my grandparents they had Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Donovan, and that 60s stuff playing along with Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, etc. So I naturally grew up listening to all that stuff. I come from a Blues, Classic Rock, Hard Rock background but also like RnB (Motown), Soul, etc. I don't like Country though or Bluegrass. Or modern death metal/modern rock. Or rap/hiphop.

But when I put on that Hotel California CD on the stereo that one magical day as I have talked about before, and heard that wonderful solo by Joe Walsh and Don Felder, it made me want to play guitar. It lit the fire in me. Those two guys are my favorites. Although I have many other inspirations from the other bands I've mentioned above but Joe and Felder really are my "Heroes". It changed my life and I love it. It's what made me want to play.

But I fully believe the stuff that you grew up hearing in your childhood years will make an impact on what music you like. Just like I fully believe the music that inspired you to play guitar will always be your favorite and you'll end up back at it. You can go off and listen to whatever music you want and find inspiration, but you'll always "come home" and get right back to what made you want to play guitar. I love everything from the Eagles to AC/DC to Motley Crue to Marvin Gaye to Eric Clapton. But I always come back.

Wow, thanks so much. The act of thinking about your own success is fraught with peril on so many levels, so having someone else wishing it upon you is much better!

And yes, we try hold down the country-rock end of the scale (I would even call it soft rock, though i'm sure the guys themselves would never agree to such). The original Eagles are absolutely iconic and quintessential in that regard.

Yeah I know right?! But I haven't found a good way to mic my amps yet..... So I plugged straight in.... Being an analog nut that I am - I surprised myself. It actually had that barky Tweed Fender sound and that Tele cut through like a knife through butter.

Thanks! :)

Unless you are a professional audio engineer or have a lot of exposure to recording with mics and have a lot of money to spend on quality mics, I'd stick with the digital method you used with your Blues improv. There was nothing wrong with it. What you might be able to get with good microphones would be the essence of a live trial but if you don't get the mics set right, you could end up with something that sounds nothing like what you played.

It's much easier to just plug into your interface and bang away and then tweak it in Garage Band or with your POD. You can get really close to the tone of a particular amp if you have the patience to work with your DAW.

Where the mics really come in is when you are recording an acoustic. Use two mics and point one of them at the bridge and the other at the 17th fret. If you capture those mics on two separate tracks, you can work the recording levels and equalization until you get the brightness you are striving for. That's hard to do when you "plug in" an acoustic unless you have really good pickups and a good clean acoustic amp.

If you do go the mic route and don't intend to do more than casual recording, I'd suggest a set of MLX condenser mics. They sell them at Guitar Center and if you keep your eyes open, you can get a large condenser with a floating mount combined with a pencil mic for well under $100. These aren't good stage mics...to fragile, but they are great for home studios.

"Flying" Is my favorite. Nice!

Who did that clever write-up?

BTW, some of the guitar reminds me of Lindsey Buckingham's more recent work, like on the Under the Skin album. Not bad. ;)

And I somehow missed your response - thanks! Two things happened to "Thinking About The Girl I Love" - one, I wasn't confident I could sing it without misadventure in a live recording situation, and two, we had a full band and that song only needs the two of us, so I went with "Lazy Eyes" instead. I'm glad you like "Flying" because I don't care for that particular performance as I considered my vocal to be very poor. The guy who did the write-up is Sean Moeller, one of the founders of Daytrotter, he does all of them. Daytrotter is actually a very popular music blog which gets about 25,000 hits a day, we were lucky to get on it. I think I know which guitar parts you're talking part, and while they were excellent, we were actually looking for something more countryish . . .

Thanks! I appreciate that!

Some may get the wrong impression from my videos that I'm just a bedroom guitarist, etc and not know that I've played in many bands over the years and that I am a professional guitarist and musician. But I'm a rock tribute band guitarist, my job is to play everything note-for-note like the record and exactly like the original and copy the tone and everything exact. I'm a very picky exacting type of musician and I want everything to be exact (like the Eagles). I'm not an original music type of guy (like SS) but still am a musician. Unfortunately I'm not in a band right now and so my videos are all done in my studio and I worry it gives off the wrong impression that I'm just a bedroom player that plays for fun or isn't very good when in fact I'm a gigging guitarist who has played for quite a few years and am used to play live and have for a long time. I miss my Eagles tribute band and I wish I had videos of my old band to show so that maybe more people would realize that.

Thanks again! :)

I've got a couple more videos coming down the pipeline so to speak that will be out in the next couple of weeks. I've been really busy plus I'm gearing up for my Nashville trip and as it turns out I now have a wedding to go to right before I leave so I'm a bit busy but I have a couple of requests I need to fullfil. I like doing long videos for the most part (15 minutes or so) and it takes a nice chunk of time not only shooting the video (and sometimes reshooting if something goes wrong), but editing, uploading, and all of that takes a while too. I enjoy it but I wish I had a dedicated video HD camera and a cameraman so I could make better quality videos. I have 32 subscribers on YouTube.

My "Ruby" without question. Gibson Les Paul guitars and Fender Blackface amps are the combination for me.

Hehe not too often do I get paid in guitar equipment - but I do spend most of the money I get on guitar equipment! ;) :D

And yes - I love playing those songs. It is challenging for me though as Lindsey always plays fingerstyle and I'm a diehard pick player and find it very challenging to play with fingers. When Waddy Wachtel plays Lindsey's parts on Stevie's solo shows he plays them with a pick - so I play them more like Waddy plays them. I need to get an echo pedal to do "Edge Of Seventeen". It needs that slapback echo on it...

I'm not a country guy but if I was I would have myself a B Bender or G Bender installed. I'd probably go with a McVay or Glaser G Bender since I like that Brad Paisley type of bending. Maybe one of these days I'll get the nerve to send one of my Teles off for that mod. I'm not a country player but I do love Telecasters. They are my 2nd favorite kind of guitar. My favorite is the Les Paul (my rock roots shining through there) and my 3rd favorite is the Stratocaster. But the LP and Tele are the bread and butter/meat and potatoes of guitars for me as opposed to LP and Strat for most rock guys. I prefer the way Teles sound overdriven to the way Strats sound overdriven. Most Strats are a little too harsh but I have my Strats with overwound pickups and a tone control to fix that little problem where as Teles just are right from the get go for me.

Nice videos! We have completely different styles but I like your stuff! I'm a Classic Rock guy and prefer the 'rock-ier' Walsh Hotel California era of the Eagles as opposed to the country/country-rock Leadon era but I can definitely tell your group is more into the country/folk stuff ala Clarence White, Bernie Leadon, etc. I just grew up listening to classic rock which is why I gravitate to that and blues for what I play myself. That mid-late 70s stuff is my favorite type of music. But I'm not a Marshall amp guy like most rockers. I like running Blackface era Fender amps with overdrive pedals instead, just like Walsh and Felder did in the HC-HFO era Eagles.

Yep it is a short throw I think. Joe Glaser in Nashville and Charlie McVay in Pennsylvania make them. They also are a different design, there is no back body route, there is a pencil sized route that goes from the neck plate to the bridge area in the center of the guitar (not visible). The strap is connected to a lever on the neck plate instead of where the normal strap button is on a Parsons White type bender. The Glaser/McVay benders are more "modern". He can do B or G benders as well as double benders where you also have a lanyard around your waist so you pull out for the G, and down for the B. You can google McVay benders for more info. Glaser doesn't have a site and mainly only works with the top dogs in Nashville as he is a pro luthier there and does work for Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, etc etc. But anyone can get a McVay bender.

Yeah, there are a lot of good benders around. For me though, getting one from Gene Parsons himself was worth it for the mojo alone, never mind the great workmanship. I think it would be very close to what it would be like for you buying a guitar worked on by Joe Walsh and getting to talk to him!

Definitely very cool indeed!

The Parsons Benders are great for the classic Byrds/Country pedal steel sound. The more modern Glaser/McVay short throw benders are more for the modern "hot chicken picking" Brad Paisley/Brent Mason/Keith Urban type of thing, which if I'm going to listen to Country, I admittedly like just for the guitar playing alone.

"This film documents and dramatizes the Chicago-based soft rock band Desert Soap's quest for grooviness (circa 2011) in a pleasantly psychedelic way"

That's the little blurb I wrote for the film. We plan to make DVDs of it and sell it at our shows. I also want to post it online in some way, because i'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I think I really was able to make a groovy, hippie-esque 2011 film. The only issue is that there are a number of scenes that, if it were rated, would push the film slightly into "R" rating territory, and I don't feel like editing it just so I can put it on YouTube or Facebook. I think it might be OK for Vimeo though, so I may post it in installments and advertise it only here first, an eaglesonlincentral.com On The Border "exclusive"(haha) because it's easy to sense a friendly, open audience here . . .

As soon as I get my pedalboard back up I have a request to fulfill that I've been unable to do yet for EaglesFanatic but I have to have my Overdrive and Compressor to do it but I haven't forgotten in case you are reading EF! :D

I am a geek - and so I tend to use geek tech talk a lot. I could teach everyone so much about guitars, amps, pedals, techniques, equipment in general, the Eagles' gear and guitar style, etc. I've researched everything extensively to know what I know. I know!!! The only two things that make that not really possible is that I live way out in the boonies out in the country, and the other is that there are not many musicians or wannabe musicians in this town/area and certainly not in my "neighborhood" (out in the country where the closest neighbor is a mile away). I would love to though. If I could get someone from the neighboring towns/cities to come over and make the drive - I would love to teach. It's just A - finding someone who will drive the distance and B - finding someone who wants to learn.

At around 2:30 CST tomorrow my band will be recording four songs for our latest Daytrotter session. You can listen to it live here:

http://www.daytrotter.com/#!/live/ (http://www.daytrotter.com/#%21/live/)

That session will take place three hours west of Chicago. When we're finished, we'll have to drive home fast enough to make the 7:00 soundcheck for a gig we have that night. In doing so, we we'll unfortunately probably miss the broadcast of a radio show we recorded for a Dutch radio program. It more than two hours of us performing almost all of our songs and being interviewed. You can listen to it, though, here at 5PM CST:

Thanks everyone. The reason the video might not "come out" is if I crap out on the song. It's a little bit out of my range, and i'm telling you right now, i'm definitely resorting to falsetto in order to reach the notes for "GO ON sleeping" in the bridge! The headliners are friends of mine and yes, they know how much I dig the Eagles. It was between BOML and PEF and the former was chosen. PEF is a lot easier to sing but BOML is a good challenge. There will be a pedal steel player playing Bernie's licks and i'll be trying to do the same for Randy on bass. Hopefully i'll have something good to show you, thanks again!

You've heard more of it than we have! We didn't even listen to any kind of playback after we recorded it, i'm glad you enjoyed it. What did we say about that river/ocean stuff again? We we're obviously making a lot of it up as we went along . . .

Now that I know that the radio broadcast went well, I can say that everything pretty much went very well yesterday. As far as the gig goes, before and after our set, people kept buying me shots and handing me j----- to the point that I thought I was going to fall over before I got back onstage for my guest spot, but I drank some water and that made it is ok. Yes, Best Of My Love was videotaped and i'll upload and post it if anyone thinks it's worthwhile to do so. In order to aid in making a decision in that regard, you can listen to the audio of it. The first verse has some iffy moments, but I think the rest of it OK:

It was when you guys were talking about the letter "O" being for "Ocean" before you played the song about the ship. There was discussion about how some people prefer oceans but other people prefer lakes, and one person said that as he got older he appreciated lakes more. There seemed to be uncertainty about the significance of preferring rivers, lol, and someone (it was hard to identify who said what because you guys sometimes talked over each other) said that we should find a webstream of the ocean while listening to the song. That clever joke cracked me up.

I just listened to the audio of BOML - you should definitely put up the video! Now, is it just my ears playing tricks on me, or is the tempo slowed down a bit from that of the original version?

You can also listen to our Dutch radio program here. One thing I found out was that I said "you know" way way way way way way too many times. I'll know better next time we're on the radio. I think our performances were pretty good, though

part one (our segment starts at about 5:05):

part three:

And, starting Monday, I will begin the ten-part serialization of our groovy and far-out 73-minute soft rock band film - that is, if anyone stays interested enough to want to watch all ten parts. My main influences in making the film were the Monkees movie Head (especially the "As We Go Along") sequence, the 1972 Dutch tv documentary Swing In Mit Neil Young, and the Beatles promo film for "Something." To a lesser extent, I was influenced by films from that same basic era including Easy Rider, Two-Lane Blacktop, Vanishing Point, Electra Glide In Blue, Zabriskie Point, Journey Through The Past, Cover Me Babe, etc., mostly in terms of feel. The storytelling style is very psychedelic/non-linear/avant-garde, so you might not dig that. Here is the trailer again:

But I gotta be honest, all the goofing around, chit chatting about random stuff, confused staring, etc., needs to be edited down a bit. At first, I thought those bits were fun and playful... but this is a long film, and after a while, they start to come off as self-indulgent rather than artistic.

However, I think it's very cool that you guys put something like this together, and I will be watching the rest of the parts regardless!

Thanks for the honest feedback! The "random" parts are meant for a "specific audience" if you catch my drift. I understand that not everyone will dig them, but I feel we have to connect with what I think is our core "demographic" in a substantive way
