That is lovely, and very good sound quality. Great harmonies in the third verse. Thanks for posting it.

Glad you like it! It's off of a copy of a studio master reel I got in a Fleetwood Mac trade. You know, it's interesting. Stevie has an INCREDIBLE amount of demos circulating... I have over 500 myself, and there are people with more. Yet, the Eagles have almost nothing out there. That's why I thought people might like to hear this - a rare instance of Don before studio polish. He still sounds great!

I also have two demos of Highwayman with Don on them, but he's harder to hear there. Still, if there's interest, I'll post them.

I'd like to hear them. As you say, it's interesting to hear the 'raw' version. That is also the appeal of live performances. You know that any mistakes cannot be edited out. I am sometimes overwhelmed by admiration for the guys when performing live, either together or solo.

OK, I'll upload 'em, even if it's just for you, Kate! I love listening to demos too.

OK, here's the first Highwayman demo. Remember he is just doing backing vocals here.

Nice! I had trouble with the volume on the first one, but the second was good quality, and although Don is understated he just enhances the melody, and Stevie sounds great. Thank you!

Hmm - what kind of volume problem did you have? Were you still able to hear it? Glad you liked them. :)

Oh, and I wanted to add that in my personal opinion, The Highwayman is one of Stevie's best solo songs, and Leather and Lace is also in the top 10.

The Highwayman is a 'this is about Glenn' song like some other of her songs which I personally dedicate to him - Rooms On Fire in particular but also Landslide and parts of Gold Dust Woman (Soda knows what I mean by that).

Good choices, Freypower. One of the great things about Stevie's music is how you can apply her songs emotionally to all sorts of things - I know this is true of all artists, but it seems with Stevie it's even more so because she's one of those who writes about her own experiences rather than inventing "characters." Therefore, when I hear Silver Springs and think about that guy who dumped me, I think, "Yeah, she gets it, and this song says it all."

Since I adore Stevie, I do wish she and Glenn had gotten along better! Oh well.

Just on Stevie I didn't know Edge of Seventeen was about John Lennon's death, and now she thinks it is about 9/11. She says Landslide is now about Hurricane Katrina. I happened to read an article in an Australian women's magazine about her which was done before she came out here for the Melbourne Cup.

I need to play Edge of Seventeen but when I read that I remembered 'words of a poet and the voice from a choir and a melody... .nothing else mattered'. How right she was.

Yeah, I think her desire to re-apply her songs to modern events is one of her charms.

This Don fan wants to THANK YOU from the bottom of her heart for posting those songs, Nancy!

Leather and Lace was amazing, and The Highwayman was great too! It was great to hear different versions of songs that I have listened to, and loved, for ages. Their voices really blend together beautifully, don't they? And to hear the unpolished versions was quite a treat.

You don't have any other demos with Don on them, do you? Goodness knows that no Eagles demos are likely to surface anytime soon....

Glad you liked it, Dana! As of now, I don't have any more demos with Don on them, although I've been looking around for them.

Funny story: Stevie says that while they were dating, she showed Dreams to Don, and he was annoyed by the way she said "WashES" instead of "WASHes." "You're putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable, Stevie! You're not pronouncing the world correctly!" That's our English major for ya. ;)

OMG FP!! I almost fell over when I read what you wrote about Rooms on Fire as I also think of Glenn when I listen to that song!!!! I swear we must be sisters! lol

There you are, PLS! Welcome! :)

I can definitely see how Rooms on Fire works.

"Well, maybe I'm just thinkin' that the rooms are all on fire...every time that you walk in the room... well, there is magic all around you..."

Yep, works for me.

Thanks for the welcome! I tried to register as lissa but that was taken so I was lazy and just used my email. lol Can't you just so apply that song to Glenn tho? I have for I can't remember how long and seeing FP say the same thing just blew my mind. In fact I'm so pathetic that I CAN'T listen to the song without thinking of Glenn.

What do you want us to call you PLS? WELCOME! I am so glad you are here!

The Rooms On Fire thing seemed fairly obvious to me right away. I have a few songs I dedicate to Glenn. The number one song is Neil Young's Like A Hurricane - even though it talks about 'brown eyes' that is what I thought they were back then. The other song is Robbie Robertson's Broken Arrow.

Now that I have a new home computer that has all the mod cons and some time to actually spend on it, I've just listened to Leather & Lace. Thanks Nancy, its just beautiful. Don't you love it when you hear a voice, in this case Don's for me, and it gives you shivers. Actually Don's voice does that for me on many occassions, surprise surprise hey.... lol http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif

I know this is kind of an old thread but I don't think I saw it before and I wanted to explain why the link to the demo was deleted on Eagleland. Because of the scrutiny Eagleland gets from the Eagles office we felt it wasn't an appropriate thing to have on the site. We should have PMd to explain why it was deleted so I apologize for not doing that. I guess we figured it was pretty obvious, though.

Just saw this. First, Selena, I'm so glad you liked it. Don sounds wonderful. It's amazing how tight their harmonies are even on these demos.

Second, thanks for the explanation, L&M. :)

One of my fellow Stevie Nicks fans asked me to burn the Leather and Lace Master Reel for her. When I was listening to it to check it for errors, I discovered there were two more versions with Don on them. However, they are partial. Here they are!
