He is performing tonight and tomorrow at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York.

Check out this link (http://www.iridiumjazzclub.com/talent.php?talent=1054&month=2&year=2011).

He'll be doing solo stuff as well as tunes he's co-written over the years for people like James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Don Henley. I so wish I could be there! Hoping some pics and possibly even vids will surface...

Dirty Laundry

An awesome bit of jamming from the band!

A very different, bluesy and gorgeous version of New York Minute.

An equally great version of You're Not Drinking Enough. I love the bluesy, moody vibe, and that other guy's voice. My kind of thing!

I love Danny Kortchmar's part in Jackson Browne's Going Home DVD. He just struts, doesn't he? And he always has a very intense look.

Okay, I have tried to upload one of his solo songs from my collection to this free site... I really hope it will work for you. You'll have to follow the link and then press play on the little video window. (It's audio only.)

You're So Beautiful (http://www.akmusicvideo.com/audio/Youre_So_Beautiful)

Also, check out this interview (http://www.insidemusicast.com/musicasts/2010/2/15/danny-kortchmar.html) with Danny. It's fantastic. The guys from Inside MusiCast are friends of mine on FB - they are great blokes and they do some awesome interviews with the best musicians in the biz. It's fun listening to Danny talk about working with Don. Of course, JB and JT are also mentioned, as well as lots of other artists. A great listen!

I noticed that the first photo from FB is copywrited to May Pang. Is that the infamous May Pang I'm thinking of, former girlfriend of John Lennon from what he referred to as his Lost Weekend (which lasted for 18 months?) I read her book Loving John years ago!

Eek! I have just found this brand spankin' new interview with Danny and Jeff Pevar. It's in four parts and it's actual footage, not just audio... you have to understand, this is rare! I am pretty much in heaven right now.

It's definitely worth a watch because they talk about music over the years, how production has changed, and they mention all sorts of artists, and talk for quite a while about Jackson Browne in particular.

Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py4NaX17LYQ) is part one.

Part two (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di73IORiigw&NR=1&feature=endscreen)

Lots of Jackson love in Part 3. You know I would love that!

What do you think of Danny's assessment of the guitar in part 4 when he says, "Chicks love it". Agreed? Lol!

Troubadour
02-20-2013, 06:14 AM
I think I can safely say he is correct... Haha.

I knew you'd watch it if I mentioned JB. ;) I thought of you while they were talking about him. Clearly the interviewer is a big fan. I like how Danny talks about the way he writes with Jackson. "I only go over there if I have an idea. It's not like we sit around and say 'So...got any ideas?'" lol. I love the little insights they give into the writing process - and I'm pretty sure I could listen to him talk about growing up musically in New York forever!

Prettymaid
02-20-2013, 09:58 AM
He sometimes appeared a little bored when Jeff was talking, but not knowing his regular behaviors, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that that's just the way he looks. Lol!

As an aside, sometimes I will say to Hubby, "Why are you looking at me like that?" or "Why the look?", and he will reply, " This is just the way I look!" Lol!

Danny has a nice speaking voice.

Troubadour
02-20-2013, 01:49 PM
I know what you mean about the bored thing, but I think it's just him! He and Jeff are really good friends and play with each other in NY/CT as often as they can.

That's funny about your husband. I know someone who is the same - she was telling me that people at work are always asking her why she looks miserable and she's like "I CAN'T HELP MY FACE!" LOL!

Great! I only had time to read the first page right now. I'll read the rest later. I love it when someone gives us an inside view of the music and musicians of that time.

Troubadour
06-24-2013, 01:56 PM
Thank you so much for that, AEW! I was almost late for my lecture this morning because I had to read it right to the end! I had heard some of it before, but there was some new stuff in there too. I'm glad Rolling Stone acknowledged the talents of The Section, despite the fact that much of the article seemed to be a gratuitous look at the bad behaviour and drug use throughout that period. (I was a little surprised when they said that James Taylor had declined to comment as he is pretty open nowadays about his drug addictions... but perhaps he saw that they wanted something titillating and sensational and decided not to go there.)

Several thoughts:

- It's amazing that some of these guys are still alive.

- I love the woman, but Carole King does appear to have particularly bad taste in men! I'm pretty sure it was Rick Evers that she met at a party which was hosted by (or at least attended by) Don and Glenn in Laurel Canyon.

- I never knew that Russ Kunkel dated Carly Simon after her divorce from JT. Awkward.

- I love Crosby's quotes about the inventiveness of The Section. They really were an awesome, highly sought-after bunch of musicians. It's a shame that that kind of collaborative, studio-based vibe doesn't really exist anymore.

- I remember reading about Danny's dislike of "Danny Kootch" before but, as I recall, it wasn't that he doesn't like Kootch (it's a childhood nickname), but more that he didn't like it when Carole credited him as Danny Kootch on her album. He said it was either Danny Kortchmar or Kootch.

- I'm kinda glad I met James Taylor and asked for his autograph only a couple of years ago, and not in the '70s!

- I have read Waddy Wachtel's story about first meeting Danny (and rescuing him after he got jumped on by Carole's boyfriend) before, and it is pretty cute! I'll have to try to find Waddy's memories on that one. It's cool to read. This article has basically summarised the event.

- I like the band of brothers vibe that The Section has and how protective they can be of Carole. After reading all of this, it must have been a real thrill for them to get back together for the Troubadour Reunion Tour in 2010. Oh, how I wish I could have seen it!

- I would sort of love to see Lee Sklar lose it. Just once. "Level of hippie incompetence" cracked me up.

It really makes you realise what an incredibly creative and fun, but also ugly, time this must have been. I'm sure they wanted to kill each other on more than one occasion. This resonates for me because I watched a Crosby, Stills and Nash interview from 1987 on YouTube just a couple of nights ago and it was so sad. Thankfully all is well now, but they were at a bad point back then and Graham Nash was painfully honest about it. Stills was bloated, drunk, egotistical and unapologetic and there were clips of Graham Nash yelling at him backstage to get it together. You could see and hear the exasperation, anger and fear in Graham's voice and it was clear that the drugs took such a massive toll on them as individuals and as a group. It was also clear that he carries a lot of guilt about trying to get Crosby through those gigs, even when he was strung out on hard drugs and almost at rock bottom. I remember Peter Asher discussing the same thing with regard to James Taylor; he would give him methadone just to get him through a show. It's horrible, but the fact that they survived it all and are still touring, sounding incredible and playing together as friends is pretty amazing, once you realise the depths they travelled to together. Music binds people in a way that very little else does.
