He is performing tonight and tomorrow at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York.

Check out this link (http://www.iridiumjazzclub.com/talent.php?talent=1054&month=2&year=2011).

He'll be doing solo stuff as well as tunes he's co-written over the years for people like James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Don Henley. I so wish I could be there! Hoping some pics and possibly even vids will surface...

* Just replaced the original vid with a few better ones that I found on YouTube!

Dirty Laundry

An awesome bit of jamming from the band!

A very different, bluesy and gorgeous version of New York Minute.

An equally great version of You're Not Drinking Enough. I love the bluesy, moody vibe, and that other guy's voice. My kind of thing!

I'll bet you wish you could be there Lou!

I love Danny Kortchmar's part in Jackson Browne's Going Home DVD. He just struts, doesn't he? And he always has a very intense look.

A few photos from FB. It sounds like a good night was had by all! I'd love to see the actual set list.

That last one makes me smile! Very cute.

Okay, I have tried to upload one of his solo songs from my collection to this free site... I really hope it will work for you. You'll have to follow the link and then press play on the little video window. (It's audio only.)

You're So Beautiful (http://www.akmusicvideo.com/audio/Youre_So_Beautiful)

This song is my favourite of his. It's so sweet.

02-28-2011, 03:47 PM
Also, check out this interview (http://www.insidemusicast.com/musicasts/2010/2/15/danny-kortchmar.html) with Danny. It's fantastic. The guys from Inside MusiCast are friends of mine on FB - they are great blokes and they do some awesome interviews with the best musicians in the biz. It's fun listening to Danny talk about working with Don. Of course, JB and JT are also mentioned, as well as lots of other artists. A great listen!

03-01-2011, 03:27 AM
Ooh that's very nice Lou. Easy on the ears. :pimp: Off to read the interview now.

03-01-2011, 03:28 AM
Thanks for keeping us up to date on Kootch, Troub!

03-01-2011, 04:49 AM
My pleasure!

Annabel, it's an audio interview. Also very easy on the ears. ;)

03-01-2011, 02:16 PM
Well it took me several interuptions  but I got there in the end. Good interview. He seems a really nice guy.

03-01-2011, 02:31 PM
I noticed that the first photo from FB is copywrited to May Pang. Is that the infamous May Pang I'm thinking of, former girlfriend of John Lennon from what he referred to as his Lost Weekend (which lasted for 18 months?) I read her book Loving John years ago!

tequila girl
03-01-2011, 02:33 PM
I noticed May Pang too and thought the same as you pm

03-01-2011, 08:11 PM
Ooh, I don't know! Well spotted, though...

03-01-2011, 09:22 PM
Here's one of my favourite pics of Danny... along with some bloke I'll be seeing in July... :blueblob: :inlove:

03-01-2011, 10:23 PM
Just in case you miss them, I've edited my post on the first page to include a few new vids I've found from the Iridium. Worth checking out!

03-02-2011, 03:33 AM
Here's one of my favourite pics of Danny... along with some bloke I'll be seeing in July... :blueblob: :inlove:

Who might he be then Lou ;)

03-02-2011, 08:48 AM
Danny kind of looks like a gangsta there!

03-02-2011, 09:47 AM
Ha - that's probably why I like it! He does look a bit Italian, doesn't he?

03-02-2011, 09:52 AM
Awwww he looks lovely Lou! Thats a lovely pic! really clear! Hope you've a great time in July. I know you've worked hard enough for it!

03-02-2011, 01:56 PM
Upon further research, it seems as if the May Pang on the photo is indeed THE May Pang... She has some photos of friends of hers on FB at parties in the '80s and she has tagged Danny in them. I guess she was at the show the other night, too.

03-02-2011, 02:45 PM
Well I'll be...it's a small world.

04-01-2011, 05:43 PM
The woman kind of irritates me with her interrupting/constant comments (maybe I'm just jealous ;)) but I love this interview!! There's some stuff in there about Don and Glenn, as well as James Taylor, Carole King, etc.

04-19-2011, 08:24 PM
Danny posted this on FB a little earlier:

"Here I am at Carnegie Hall with JT and band... I actually saw the Beatles here in '64!"

I looked up tonight's show, and it's called "James Taylor: Roots". Other guests are Robert Cray, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill, Amy Grant and Alison Kraus. Pretty cool!

04-19-2011, 08:53 PM
Very cool!

05-09-2011, 05:45 PM
Just found a pic of Danny from that concert:

Oooooh Lovely action shot Lou! Veeeeery NiCe!

07-01-2011, 05:09 PM
A couple of shots from a recent Kortchmar McDonald Band show (24th June). LOVE THESE!

The outfit is perfect. Complete with second-half removal of the jacket...

07-02-2011, 11:30 AM
Wow Lou! They really are lovely pics. Danny looks incredible well and full of energy. Wouldn't mind seeing him play live some day! Well found!

10-27-2012, 03:18 PM
Had to post this... I've only just seen it. He looks so flippin' young here! I love it. Funny to think that he and JT knew each other as kids...

10-27-2012, 03:20 PM
Yeah - who could've known back then where their paths would take them!

10-27-2012, 03:22 PM
I know. It's amazing. It reminds you of how deeply forged these kinds of friendships must be.

10-28-2012, 07:07 PM
Whenever I think of "Kootch", I always think of this great Jackson Browne video of Knock On Any Door. He's so cute in it I decided to take some caps.

Good job, PM. Troub is going to love those!!!

10-29-2012, 10:37 PM

They are gorgeous! Thank you so much. :inlove: You have made a tired girl very happy indeed.

10-30-2012, 08:12 AM
I aim to please! ;-)

10-30-2012, 09:18 AM
I love this first one. That is such a Danny face, and I love the way Jackson is looking over at him! The second one is great, too.

Very jealous of the Aussies at the moment! Carole King will be touring in February and Danny will be playing the Australia & New Zealand shows.

01-09-2013, 07:27 PM
Quite a combo!

01-10-2013, 12:39 AM
That would be a fun show!

02-19-2013, 09:24 PM
Eek! I have just found this brand spankin' new interview with Danny and Jeff Pevar. It's in four parts and it's actual footage, not just audio... you have to understand, this is rare! I am pretty much in heaven right now.

It's definitely worth a watch because they talk about music over the years, how production has changed, and they mention all sorts of artists, and talk for quite a while about Jackson Browne in particular.

Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py4NaX17LYQ) is part one.

Part two (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di73IORiigw&NR=1&feature=endscreen)

Part three (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtMkRexRoek)

Part four (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-wSuxiJR8g)

02-19-2013, 11:52 PM
Well, since Jackson is talked about...lol!

02-20-2013, 12:37 AM
Lots of Jackson love in Part 3. You know I would love that!

What do you think of Danny's assessment of the guitar in part 4 when he says, "Chicks love it". Agreed? Lol!

02-20-2013, 06:14 AM
I think I can safely say he is correct... Haha.

I knew you'd watch it if I mentioned JB. ;) I thought of you while they were talking about him. Clearly the interviewer is a big fan. I like how Danny talks about the way he writes with Jackson. "I only go over there if I have an idea. It's not like we sit around and say 'So...got any ideas?'" lol. I love the little insights they give into the writing process - and I'm pretty sure I could listen to him talk about growing up musically in New York forever!

02-20-2013, 09:58 AM
He sometimes appeared a little bored when Jeff was talking, but not knowing his regular behaviors, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that that's just the way he looks. Lol!

As an aside, sometimes I will say to Hubby, "Why are you looking at me like that?" or "Why the look?", and he will reply, " This is just the way I look!" Lol!

Danny has a nice speaking voice.

02-20-2013, 01:49 PM
I know what you mean about the bored thing, but I think it's just him! He and Jeff are really good friends and play with each other in NY/CT as often as they can.

That's funny about your husband. I know someone who is the same - she was telling me that people at work are always asking her why she looks miserable and she's like "I CAN'T HELP MY FACE!" LOL!

02-20-2013, 05:21 PM

Your right, though. That interviewer really admired Jackson, much to my delight!

02-23-2013, 09:40 PM
I almost fell asleep to this (in a good way!) Danny and Jeff playing an instrumental version of one of the most gorgeous songs of all-time. Love it.

02-24-2013, 07:42 PM
I love watching the interplay between them - how they listen to every little sound and feed off each other. I love watching them improvise and giving each other the freedom to do their own thing. It's clear in the interview how much they relish that!

02-26-2013, 01:40 PM
Cool - thanks!

06-08-2013, 08:42 PM
Just came across this pic. It's unusual to find one that I've never seen before... especially such a crisp '70s shot! I love it.

06-08-2013, 08:55 PM
That doesn't even look like the Kootch I know!

06-08-2013, 09:00 PM
Haha, really?! I guess this was quite early JT days...

06-08-2013, 09:03 PM
Well, it's his hair! I've never seen that style on him.

Oh yeah! Love the title, too!

06-19-2013, 04:29 PM
Me too! Great title. I also (selfishly) like the fact that the pic of Danny is one of the biggest... Nice to see him and all of the other great session musicians getting their own write-up. I'll have to see if I can find out where it came from. I would love to own a copy of this!

I've read it. It was in Rolling Stone's April 11, 2013 issue. I should have sent it to you. Kortchmar is quoted in in at one point as saying 'F*k the Seventies'. I'm sorry but I don't have my copy any more.

06-19-2013, 07:40 PM
Thanks, FP. At least Troub now knows where it's from!

06-20-2013, 02:33 AM
Oh, I didn't realise it was so recent! Thanks, FP. I'll have a search around for it. That quote doesn't surprise me! Haha.

06-22-2013, 05:20 PM
I just got around to watching the Carole King performance at the White House. Part of her band was Danny Kortchmar. He was featured a little on "I Feel The Earth Move". I didn't realize it was him until she mentioned his name. Letting everyone know in case it is re-run. You can also watch it at PBS on-line.

06-22-2013, 05:20 PM
Thanks, Cheryl!

06-22-2013, 05:23 PM
Thanks, Cheryl! Unfortunately I can't watch the PBS video, due to being in the UK... argh.

06-22-2013, 05:56 PM
Aw, thanks for that, PM! I can't even imagine how nervous Carole must have been before that performance... looking out at that audience freaked me out! She is awesome.

On a shallow note, I don't think I've ever seen Danny in glasses before.

06-22-2013, 06:04 PM
It's a shame you can't see the whole show. I've not watched it yet either, but the first song is Beautiful, and Danny is featured more prominently.

06-22-2013, 06:06 PM
I love Beautiful! One of my favourites. Wonder if it will be released on DVD?

06-24-2013, 01:19 AM
Here's the link to that RS article; read it a week or two back online--nice lil' profile:

06-24-2013, 09:08 AM
Great! I only had time to read the first page right now. I'll read the rest later. I love it when someone gives us an inside view of the music and musicians of that time.

06-24-2013, 01:56 PM
Thank you so much for that, AEW! I was almost late for my lecture this morning because I had to read it right to the end! I had heard some of it before, but there was some new stuff in there too. I'm glad Rolling Stone acknowledged the talents of The Section, despite the fact that much of the article seemed to be a gratuitous look at the bad behaviour and drug use throughout that period. (I was a little surprised when they said that James Taylor had declined to comment as he is pretty open nowadays about his drug addictions... but perhaps he saw that they wanted something titillating and sensational and decided not to go there.)

Several thoughts:

- It's amazing that some of these guys are still alive.

- I love the woman, but Carole King does appear to have particularly bad taste in men! I'm pretty sure it was Rick Evers that she met at a party which was hosted by (or at least attended by) Don and Glenn in Laurel Canyon.

- I never knew that Russ Kunkel dated Carly Simon after her divorce from JT. Awkward.

- I love Crosby's quotes about the inventiveness of The Section. They really were an awesome, highly sought-after bunch of musicians. It's a shame that that kind of collaborative, studio-based vibe doesn't really exist anymore.

- I remember reading about Danny's dislike of "Danny Kootch" before but, as I recall, it wasn't that he doesn't like Kootch (it's a childhood nickname), but more that he didn't like it when Carole credited him as Danny Kootch on her album. He said it was either Danny Kortchmar or Kootch.

- I'm kinda glad I met James Taylor and asked for his autograph only a couple of years ago, and not in the '70s!

- I have read Waddy Wachtel's story about first meeting Danny (and rescuing him after he got jumped on by Carole's boyfriend) before, and it is pretty cute! I'll have to try to find Waddy's memories on that one. It's cool to read. This article has basically summarised the event.

- I like the band of brothers vibe that The Section has and how protective they can be of Carole. After reading all of this, it must have been a real thrill for them to get back together for the Troubadour Reunion Tour in 2010. Oh, how I wish I could have seen it!

- I would sort of love to see Lee Sklar lose it. Just once. "Level of hippie incompetence" cracked me up.

It really makes you realise what an incredibly creative and fun, but also ugly, time this must have been. I'm sure they wanted to kill each other on more than one occasion. This resonates for me because I watched a Crosby, Stills and Nash interview from 1987 on YouTube just a couple of nights ago and it was so sad. Thankfully all is well now, but they were at a bad point back then and Graham Nash was painfully honest about it. Stills was bloated, drunk, egotistical and unapologetic and there were clips of Graham Nash yelling at him backstage to get it together. You could see and hear the exasperation, anger and fear in Graham's voice and it was clear that the drugs took such a massive toll on them as individuals and as a group. It was also clear that he carries a lot of guilt about trying to get Crosby through those gigs, even when he was strung out on hard drugs and almost at rock bottom. I remember Peter Asher discussing the same thing with regard to James Taylor; he would give him methadone just to get him through a show. It's horrible, but the fact that they survived it all and are still touring, sounding incredible and playing together as friends is pretty amazing, once you realise the depths they travelled to together. Music binds people in a way that very little else does.

06-24-2013, 07:12 PM
I'm glad you got to read it. It didn't occur to me that I still could have linked to it. I was looking at the archives section which I had hoped to print out & send, but I couldn't.

06-24-2013, 07:14 PM
No worries at all - thanks for thinking of me! I hadn't even thought about trying to look on the website.
