It's always exciting to hear of solo shows - even if they are far away. Can't wait for the pics and reviews! Any Borderers have the possibility of going?

ETA: Just read your above post, Cami. Sorry it doesn't look like you can make it this time. :(

I'm gonna try to do this. It won't be easy, but this is too good to pass up!! I gotta make it happen. I'll figure something out.

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a passport. Theoretically I could go. But I don't think my husband would be impressed.

However, I am so glad he's doing a solo show!

I love how these things just come out of nowhere. We're trundling along, getting a bit disillusioned by ticket prices and lack of photographs, and suddenly BAM! A rush of excitement, and the scrambling around to organise plane tickets and time off work begins. And the questions. ("Would it be morally wrong to skip my best friend's baby shower for Glenn Frey?") Then the justifications. ("Oh, how COULD she mind? She knows how much I love him. And besides, this could be the LAST SHOW HE EVER DOES...") Ah, the life of an Eagles fan... I love it!

No sweat. I just checked it out and I can get that sucker in three-four weeks. Plenty of time.

You can actually get it in 24 hours if you pay a fee - I know that because one time, before a trip to Colombia, South America, I lost mine and had to scramble to get one the day before!

I was being light-hearted, FP, and having a little chuckle to myself over how we (I) always justify it as "this could be the last time" and yet the band just keeps on going and going. Most of us couldn't count the "last times" we've seen the Eagles on one hand! Nancy and Kay thought the same about six years ago, I believe. It was meant to be a remotely amusing paragraph, but I'm sorry if that comment upset you. I'm pretty sure it's NOT going to be Glenn's last show!

Fair enough; this has thrown me for a loop. I have Air Canada's site open as we speak. Even if I could go to Toronto I would still have to pay for accommodation & then somehow have to get to Fallsview.

I already have tickets to see Stevie in Cincinnati August 20. Impossible to bail out on that as I have two friends going as well. Thus, I will be basically getting back to Memphis on the 21st, and getting my butt onto a plane on the 22nd to Niagara Falls. Should be interesting! Thank goodness school doesn't start 'til the 29th!

Yeah, although I'm still trying to figure out if I can wiggle out of the Cincy show (I'm seeing her in Red Rocks, after all). The problem is that I was the one who was going to drive (my friend doesn't like to drive in the dark) and also that my other friend doesn't want to sit alone. I don't want to let them down.

I'd love to see a Glenn solo show! As well as a Don solo show....and a Joe solo show! :hilarious: I'd really love to see the Party Of Two show with Glenn and Joe - I think that'd be really cool and I'm super jealous of those that have been to one. I think the latest one was the Aspen show which looked SO cool on video! :D I just wished they'd come to at least Illinois, preferably the closer to West Central Illinois the better!

Wow! This is so great! Talk about a shocker!

So, why does Glenn always go to Canada when he does solo shows? Or to this area?

Niagara Falls is on my Top Ten Places To See Before I Die list. Oh how I wish I could go! :hmm: Would hubby even consider the idea? Wedding is over, but lots of money spent. I have already booked that week for vacation. :hmm:

Brooke, you have to go to Niagara. It is beautiful. My DH and I went there in 1996 and I would go back at the drop of a hat.
You will need a little vacation after the wedding I'm sure. All that hard work ..... ;) Oh and if it happens that Glenn is performing nearby (like on the doorstep,) well it would be rude not to see him.

Good question. Don plays these places in California; why doesn't Glenn? If it were California it might be almost possible to do it; but it isn't. I'm just glad for the people who have had the privilege of seeing Glenn do solo shows. I'm glad I saw 'part' of a solo show back in 1988.

I think I'm going. I'll try & get both nights. It doesn't go on sale until 2 am tomorrow my time.

Yes, I know, I know.

What I would have to do is fly to Toronto, make my way to Niagara Falls & meet Soda & Dreamer there. Then I'd have to go back to Toronto. Trying to get a US visa probably isn't on.

Wish me luck.

Good luck Julie!

As Lou knows (she's been bearing the brunt of this over the last 24 hours) I'm trying to pull out all the stops to make it. Initially I thought I hadn't a hope. The first set of flights I looked up cost over 2000€ and I thought the family would be dead set against it. However I mentioned it 'in passing' and hubby said 'are you going' I can get there a lot cheaper by Aer Lingus. And I have the money My uncle left me 'to use as she sees fit' The main problem is that hubby is working the Monday and Tuesday when I'd be flying out, and my school restarts on the Thursday 25th only Hours after the second gig. I can't imagine HOW my Principal would react to me looking for a personal day on day 1.
That said. It IS possible.
How do I get from Toronto to Fallsview? is there a train or a bus? How long would it take?
HELL I REALLY WANT TO GO!

Go for it !!! As for missing the first day -- those "pesky" travel delays are unavoidable. I think you'd be doing the responsible thing getting a replacement ahead of time, rather than leaving them shorthanded at the last minute. After all, you'd only be trying to help.
Now watch, I'm probably closest to the venue and I'll be boxed out of tickets!!! Arrrggggg. Good luck everybody!

For those asking there ARE buses from Toronto to Niagara Falls!

Now whether I am going or not.. I sooo want to but.... I am actually suppose to be working at TWO jobs during the last two weeks of august, hotel rates are soo high then and today (the day the tickets go on sale) is my bro's wedding day so.. the likelyhood of me being near a computer to get tickets is...slim. GRRR I don't know what to do!!! I live only an hour and half away from Niagara falls so to miss this would be a tough one!

I'm so excited for all of you going. For any of you considering it, especially those that have never been to Niagara Falls, my advise is DO IT!! It's a must see kind of place and I've always enjoyed our trips up there. Glenn would definitely be an added bonus!

I'm all atingle just thinking about how wonderful it would be to have ALL of you up there for this together. Glenn might run off the stage screaming when he sees you all! :hilarious: I will stay put and anxiously await the decisions and upcoming reviews of the gigs. Go get him girls!!!!

Wow. All I want to say is I wish the best of luck to everyone who is trying to formulate a plan to make it to these concerts. I know how much it means to you. I wish I could go too, but it's out of the question for me financially at the moment. Still, I am willing you all on. If you can do it, why not? You only live once. And it's not as if you're travelling halfway across the world to see Glenn in a poxy church hall in Croydon. This is Niagara Falls!

When I mentioned it to my husband last night (ironically we were watching a Canadian film at the time, Trailer Park Boys) he just said 'go if you want'. Now I just have to find a flight that doesn't take forever. The ones I have looked at so far have long stopovers in Vancouver & Edmonton.

This is taking a long time to sink in. I looked at the seats the rest of you have got & there seems a great deal of 'proximity' involved!

My husband didnt' mind so much but I think my mother won't be happy but it can't be helped. I have to do it.

I just purchased 2 second row tickets for Tuesday night & I have no idea where I will get the money to get there & back & pay for a hotel! :brickwall:I can't afford to go myself, let alone both Harold & me. I hate to travel alone & I really should't because of my Mennier's disease (in case I have an attack). I guess I just didn't want to let the good seats go on the slim chance that I might get there! Aw Julie, you're the first Borderer.

That's right - Member #1!

I think it's great that you're able to go and that you're going to meet several Borderers. This is what I felt like for San Jose. I wanted to go so-o-o-o bad, but I didn't. Regrets.....I've had a few.Wanna make up for it by coming to Niagara Falls?

I already have committed to going to see Def Leppard and Heart on the 10th with 2 other couples. I am on vacation that week, but haven't had time to discuss with the other half. Aw, come on - you wouldn't regret it! Plus I miss you!

I miss you too and would love to. But don't see it happening. But then I stop and wonder to myself, "do these pesky kids really need college educations more than Mom needs to see an Eagle solo show?" :hilarious: Besides, I'd need to get a passport and you know how I hate to drive by myself, etc... Unless I come into an inheritance, win the lottery AND get a driver before August, I won't be there.

So now we're up to 8 Borderers, correct?

And let me also say how impressed I am with Julie & GA doing this. AWESOME!!! Definitely need a sign or something to let Glenn know how far you've come for this!!

I just checked out the website and did the virtual tour of the theater. Really nice. Doesn't appear to have a bad seat in the house!
Only 1500 seats so it should be a totally different vibe than the 16,000 seat arenas. Is it too soon to start a countdown?
Only 49 days!!!

Does anyone have a set list from his last solo show?

Freypower

This is what he did last time he was in Niagara Falls:

Peaceful Easy Feeling
Lyin’ Eyes
Some Kind of Blue
The One You Love
Silent Spring / Tequila Sunrise
I Love to Watch a Woman Dance
I Dreamed There Was No War
You Are Not Alone
No More Cloudy Days
Take It to the Limit
I’ll Come Runnin’ Back to You
You Belong to the City
Smuggler’s Blues
Who’s Been Sleepin’ in My Bed
The Heat Is On
Heartache Tonight
Take It Easy
Desperado

I think it's highly unlikely that he will do those LROOE tracks, sadly.

Here is the link to the topic. I also note that Soda said they couldn't take photos (but we'll see about that).

https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372

Shows since then from what I can see have been benefits except for this which featured Deacon (in Minnesota):

Peaceful Easy Feeling
Lyin' Eyes
Some Kind of Blue
The One You Love
Tequila Sunrise
No More Cloudy Days
Take It to the Limit
I'll Come Runnin' Back to You
You Belong to the City
Smuggler's Blues
Who's Been Sleepin' in My Bed
The Heat Is On
Get Over It (Deacon)
Heartache Tonight
Hotel California (Deacon)
Take It Easy
I Hear You Knockin' (Deacon)
Desperado

I'm not so sure about that; having never done anything like this I really don't know. I will let others decide. I'm more interested in knowing what the weather will be like (do I need a heavy jacket) and is there a dress code in the casino? It doesn't sound like it if you're talking about wearing matching T shirts.

I'm presuming, it will still be summer in Canada. So I'd say light stuff will do! But maybe those who were there last time can clarify that. I'd been meaning to ask Nancy and co the same! Thanks Julie

Wow - I can't tell you all that are coming to see your first Glenn solo show how thrilled I am for all of you. I don't think any of you will regret your decisions one bit.

We'll have to give some thought to whether we want to do something special for the show. Please don't ask me to wear a regular ole tee shirt though - I really dislike them and I think Soda probably feels the same way. I never wear them because they make me look like a box. :eyebrow:

As far as the weather in August, the daytime temperatures should be nice - probably in the 80's. Nights can get a little cool, but we probably won't be outside that much anyway. You may want to bring a jacket, but you shouldn't need anything too heavy. I don't remember there being a dress code in the casino.

Henley Honey

Thank you FP for the set list and link to review. If I wasn't excited before -- I am now !!!

I can't imagine there being a dress code. No casino I've ever been to has had one. As long as there is cash in your pocket, I don't think they care what that pocket is attached to.

Temps at that time of year average 79 F during the day and 59 F in the evenings, but it will be air conditioned as well so a light jacket could not hurt. I can't imagine anyone not feeling the "heat" while at the show!
I know I will. :headbang:

The two waterfalls at Niagara Falls will send off a lot of mist both day and night, and a warm and waterproofed jacket for wet and chilly air coudn't hurt. Neither could packing some long-sleeved garments, or maybe even an acrylic sweater, in case you can feel the cold.
A waterproofed windbreaker could be a lightweight all-purpose light-rain cover for sightseeing at the Falls, too.

Oh, and there's a steady gusting wind along the waterfronts and Niagara Falls is usually a little cool and damp with water spray when you're outdoors, no matter what the degrees are on the thermometer!

If your're going to sightsee near the falls during the daytime, to take a boat excursion, for example, or to walk near the tourist views of the falls--Autumn-weather garments, with waterproofed and windbreaking overgarments (coats, jackets, sweaters), are about what it would take to stay warm. Most of the scenic views of Niagara Falls are from the sides of high bluffs, and the winds across that altitude make you feel cold. You could be blown along by the wind walking along the tourist paths.

Most importantly--SHOES--no slippery-to-walk-in SHOES--instead, you'd want to pack a pair of often-worn athletic shoes with rubber soles--This is for touring scenic land areas around the falls outdoors--so that you don't slip(!!!)--not for being indoors at the show in the Fallsview Casino--indoors is indoors.

A massive amount of water goes over Niagara Falls, both at the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side of the border, and at the American Falls on the American side of the border. It's hard to anticipate the degree, the weight, and the force of that water. The tourist souvenir shops are on the Canadian side--the side with the Fallsview Casino.

Good advice here Lisa. :partytime:

It was September when my DH and I went to the falls and I was out in shorts with a t-shirt /vest or light blouse during the day and jeans or light trousers in the evening and a light jacket. Still was warm enough then to sit outside at the HRC to eat too, although they did have their patio heaters on.

If you have never been before, it is well worth doing the tourist bits. The Maid In The Mist boat and the tunnels. We have the boat ride on video (seemed a good idea at the time lol), and also where the water goes over the falls. The force and noise is amazing and almost mesmerising. I still have my plastic coats from the MITM boat ride and from thetunnels too. I took them to Hop Farm in case of rain. Well it was Canada day on July 1st.

Kay, I checked out driving to & flying out of Bangor, Augusta & Portland. The airfares were cheaper as I went farther south but the hotels got more expensive. (We'd have to stay in Maine the night before we left & the day we arrived back ). The train still seems to be the best option. Also, it's easier to cancel the reservation if I had to do that.

I don't want to book any transportation until I see my doctor on Monday to see if he has received the results of my Functional Abilities Evaluation. Also, I'll find out if he has received a tentative work schedule from the disability insurance company. The drive from Buffalo to Fallsview is only 27 miles so it should be about 45 minutes travel time -- depending on Customs. It's 105 miles from Buffalo Airport to Toronto Airport.
Soda's right though. It would be worth it no matter how far.
Compared to FP's commute, mine is a hop, skip & a jump to the Falls.
I feel like a slacker -- my total travel time is about 2 1/2 hours -- flight included. Compared to FP and GA thats a walk in the park!!

Will it just be you, or is hubby coming too?

Harold will be going too! It is because of a big sacrifice that he is making that we will be able to go! What a husband!!! I'm so lucky! I don't know what I would do without him. It's also thanks to Expedia that we aregoing. I got an Email alert today about some a 24hr sale & I was able to get direct flights from here to Toronto & the hotel for a reasonable price. I had to change hotels, but it's worth it! Although taking the train would have been an adventure, a 24hr plus train ride each way was a little longer than we wanted. It added 2 days to our travel time.

Also because of Harold, I was able to purchase the tickets for Wednesday's concert! :partytime: I got Floor centre, row 8, seats 11 & 12. It was killing me that we would be there on Wednesday & Glenn was performing & I couldn't see him! I thought that Harold wouldn't want to go to & second show, but, surprisingly, he does! Luckily there were 2 of the best seats still available side by side. I had checked for the best single seat first (I thought I might get closer by choosing a single seat) & the seat that came up was one of the ones that were available when I requested the best seats for 2!

I'm getting really psyched now! If I'm called back to work I'll try to work something out with my employer (the Federal government) as it will likely be part time. It wouldn't go over very well with the insurance company if I told them I couldn't work that week because I was going on a trip! There's no way I'm going to miss this though!!!

Soda & Dreamer, we will arrive in Toronto in early afternoon so hopefully we can still drive with you to & from Niagara Falls. I believe that we land at the same airport as GA.

Harold says that he's glad he won't be the token male this time (although he doesn't have any trouble holding his own in a group of females). He's not into sports but, I'm sure he would love to commiserate with another male. I know he doesn't get the obsession, but he does humor me & has made sacrifices so I can go on these trips. I would think that if you have to go through customs in Vancouver you would then transfer to a domestic flight. If your flight that you flew on from Australia lands in Vancouver & then carries on & lands somewhere else in Canada, you would probably not be allowed off the plane until you reached your final destination on that plane. I think I made that clear as mud.

What airline are you arriving on & what are the flight numbers? If you want I can try to find out when your flight leaves Vancouver for Toronto & vice versa on the way back.

I have some good news of sorts. As you know I was afraid that I would be required by my disability insurance company to go back to work on a trial basis before the trip to Niagara Falls. I received a letter informing me that the insurer has determined that I am not able to do any type of work & have approved me for long term disability (subject to periodic evaluations, of course). This is a big relief as I won't have to worry that a) I won't have any income after the short term disability period expires & b) I might miss the concerts due to work obligations.

Though this is a relief, I am actually rather down at the moment. Even though I know myself that I can't work, seeing in print this evaluation that I am actually that disabled really hits home. Having said that, I am sure that concentrating on Aug 23 & 24 will get me through the acceptance of my condition. :partytime:

GL, I feel for you. I haven't worked since 2003 since I took a redundancy (I know this is not to be compared with having a disability). Sometimes it isn't the easiest thing to deal with & I understand what you are going through. Just come along & enjoy yourself, is my advice!

Thank you, FP, for your understanding. I will take your advice & come along & enjoy myself! Afterall, I am going to see two Glenn solo shows with my Border friends! What could be better! :yay:

It took me a while but I've finally gotten all caught up on this thread. I'm so thrilled for all of you going. I'm especially happy for GA and FP. This is gonna be a trip of a lifetime.

I must admit that when I found out about these shows I was considering going. I thought about it for a few days but in the end I had to decide against it. I've been wanting (and needing) to get away and take a little vacation and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity but some stuff came up and I just couldn't do it. Also, It's just too short notice for me to get the money together. I'll just have to live vicariously through all of the Borderers that are going. You ladies are gonna have so much fun!! :)

:nope: - not so much. (very big :lie: )!!!

And Jess - i really wish you and everyone else here who would like to go could figure out a way to do it. The more the merrier - that's for sure! It really sucks when real life gets in the way of important stuff like this. Trust me, there was a time when I was in your shoes and had to make many more sacrifices than I do now. And even though I'm trying to make up for lost time now, there are still times when things just don't work out. I remember feeling the same way when many of you Borderers met up in San Jose - I so wanted to join all of you, but there was just no way I could make it work that time. So :grouphug: to all of you who would like to be there, but can't do it. Although I know it won't be the same, you'll be with us in spirit and we'll do our best to report everything back to you.

I do wonder why out of the blue he decided to do these two shows. He hardly ever does solo shows now unless they are benefits, while Don does them all the time. I am glad he's doing them but I don't really understand it.

Maybe he has a friend in the management of the casino like he did when he went to Crosslake.

Well FP, as someone once said "lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand". I say we take that advice and just roll with it and enjoy it to the max!

I finally booked my flight.:yay: Seeing as I am flying east I have to leave Sunday to get there at a decent time Monday. I was thinking I'd just take that red-eye flight and sleep on the plane. Reality is setting in...like I'll sleep on the way. Ha!

About a week before I leave on a trip for a show my bad dreams will start. I lose the concert ticket or the airline doesn't show my reservation and there are no other seats or flights available. I also have the dream where the ticket gets kicked back as invalid or as a duplicate at the venue gate. That's a horrible one, because I can hear the first song starting but I can't gain entry -- no matter how much crying and pleading I do. None of these disasters has ever happened to me, but it doesn't stop the dreams from happening. Weird.

I agree, GL. I'm going to look at this positively and say that just decreases the chances of something happening again.

PLS, glad you got your flight booked. Once the flight arrangements are made, then that's when the trip always begins to feel 'official' for me.

And GL, we will probably be making reservations for the car rental within the next week or so - may even try to get to it this weekend.

We had a tornado warning today which is pretty rare for New York.
So, you ask . . . what did I do?
I put my Glenn concert tickets, passport and plane tickets in a waterproof and secure lock box in the basement. Thats it -- no jewelry, no family photos, no business reports, no back up disks, no checkbook -- just Glenn tickets. At least my priorities are in order! 25 Days !!!

I do that too - missing the flight, forgetting my passport, the plane going to the wrong destination... I had so many nightmares before seeing the Eagles in Melbourne - even after safely getting there, I had another bad dream (which I won't tell you about until AFTER you've all seen Glenn!).

I guess it's just an expression of our excitement... and maybe a little disbelief that something so good could possibly be happening (but it IS, and I'm really excited for all of you going!).

There was more trouble at Sydney Airport yesterday when a power failure shut down security & checkin for several hours. The airport is privately run & apparently doesn't even have a backup facility to allow for this type of incident. All I can say is that in all my years of travel I've never experienced delays of this type so I hope I'll be OK.

I'm a firm believer in not worrying about things you can't change or control. Don't waste the energy worrying about what might happen. Think positively and concentrate on what a great time we're gonna have!!!
If you start feeling anxious, take a deep breath and picture yourself in your seat seconds before the first note is sung. Ahhhh. Bliss.

Yep! Thats what I have been doing! By the time we got into Dublin on Saturday afternoon (instead of Friday night) I was swearing I'd never fly again! A combination of fog, technical problems and staff roster problems caused our flight on Friday night to be cancelled. We WERE put up in a gorgeous 5 star hotel (at 2am) but had to go through the whole check in etc again on Saturday. Needless to say we were exhausted by the time we got home.

However I AM looking forward immensely to this whole adventure and it will be a lot easier travelling without the children (much as I love them!). Also its a 10am flight out pf Dublin on the Monday morning so I should be ok.

In all its

Mon 22nd : Dublin - Chicago
3h 50m stopover
Chicago - Pearson.

I'm assuming catching the second flight will go easily enough. I also have to do my immigration form as I'm passing through the US.

After that its get my hair done, then all systems go!

I DO feel a bit stressed at times that something will go wrong, but I just have to hope that it won't!

Welcome home, GA!

And ladies whenever we are flying, as you know, we are always at the mercy of the airline, mother nature, and so many other factors so sometimes delays are inevitable. But, I agree, that's there's no need to stress about it because it's totally out of our control. However, the good news is that most everyone is flying in on Monday and the first show isn't until Tuesday night. So even if someone is delayed for some reason, they should still be able to make it in plenty of time to see the show - and after all, that's what really counts! So everybody, just take a deep breath and think positive thoughts!
