Just got back from the Hop Farm and what an incredible day! My head is still buzzing!

got there at about mid-day so found our positions by the main stage where we stayed pretty much all day. Enjoyed a lot of the other acts 10cc were brilliant and reacted very well when the power completely went out right in the middle of there encore. After someone put another £10 in the power meter :nahnah: they were back on to finish their set.
Bryan Ferry was great as well but by now we were ready for the headliners!!!
The EAGLES came on at 9:15pm and started with Hotel California...

Most of the show was dominated by Don and Joe but the crowd was in good spirit, Joe's guitar playing was phenominal as always. Don was in great voice as well, they have all still got it, well worth paying and waiting the whole day for, they way outshone ANY of the other bands performing. They came off stage after the encore probably bang on 11pm... the setlist was something like this...

1. Hotel California
2. Peaceful easy Feeling
3. I can’t tell you why
4. Long Road out of Eden
5. Walk Away
6. Boys of Summer
7. In the City
8. The Long Run
9. Life’s Been Good
10. Dirty Laundry
11. Funk 49
12. Heartache Tonight
13. Life in the Fast Lane
Encore
14. Take it Easy
15. Rocky Mountain Way
16. Desperado

not sure if this is accurate? Im sure someone can correct me if im wrong:nahnah:

The only down side being the choice to remove Take it to the Limit, How Long and Lyin' Eyes, some of my favourites:worried: when they should have taken out perhaps Dirty Laundry and one of Joe's songs, Glenn only sang 3 all night lol.

Nevertheless a great day, its unbelievable how much talent those guys have!

Glad you had a great time!

And opening with Hotel California?! How awesome is that! It reminds me of their Hotel California tour right after the album came out when they'd open with it and surprise everyone and the crowd would really get excited. It might seem strange to open with your biggest hit, but I think it's cool! I certainly would go crazy as it's my favorite Eagles song and album and what got me into this to begin with.

It's a shame Glenn isn't singing more songs though. Hopefully for the next tour they will rethink the setlist.

Wow. That's pretty extreme. I hope Glenn is OK. How did he sound?

He sounded great, i think maybe they dropped Lyin Eyes and TITTL because they are acoustic based songs and the sound from acoustic guitars cannot be contained in an outdoor concert as well as they can in an arena? Well thats my theory anyway

Why am I not surprised.

I feel a bit bad for the people who were subjected to that but I can't complain.

They've played them at outdoor concerts and festivals before. There must be something else going on. I'm very glad to hear he's sounding well but something is up.

I agree with Soda... I sure hope there isn't getting to be problems between the members again or any of that. If it isn't his health or his voice, there still HAS to be a reason why he's giving up so many lead vocals and dropping his songs like flies. I agree with Soda and FP in this case - Glenn needs more songs. Lose some of the solo songs.

I can't help but wonder, if the problem is Glenn's voice, why would he be doing the solo shows that are coming up in August???? I think there is more to this than we may ever know. I wonder if Deacon will be playing too since he should be out of school for the summer.

Yeah I don't think the problem is Glenn's voice for two reasons. One is the fact he has solo shows coming up and two is that he is sounding pretty good on recent videos I've heard. I mean he might have some trouble with some of the high notes occasionally, but that's no big deal. He can still easily sing Already Gone, Lyin' Eyes, Take It To The Limit, etc if he wanted to or chose to.

What I DO worry about however is if there is something else going on between band members and there are problems again, especially with recent events and some of the stuff happening (riders, media, etc). I try not to think about it though but that is the only possible reason other than health or voice that I can come up with for not singing as many lead songs anymore. I hope and pray it's not the case though. I don't think Glenn would WANT to not sing those songs anymore. So there has to be a reason. In my dream land, they will go on the 40th anniversary tour next year and play long shows again and play the hits and put some of the hits back into the setlist. But again, that is just me dreaming! :D

As I have said, if Glenn's heart is not in this any more perhaps he should consider quitting. I don't know either why he would do solo shows when he seems more & more reluctant to sing any songs. I have no idea why in a situation like this only his songs are dropped. Are Don & Joe insisting on their songs and he's just going along with it? Does he feel that his songs don't get a sufficiently good reaction? The more this continues the more it will spiral out of control if it isn't addressed. Surely this was a one off.

I also wonder why they are dropping so many of his songs... Being that it's my favorite song, I really hope they bring back TITTL in the future. I'm glad you enjoyed the festival CJ!

Hi Guys,

Almost a great day, we were in the disabled area, shame this was half a mile from the stage and there was the sound of base coming from the other stages and also the sound delay of about 1 second on the rear speakers behind the sound and light area was quite bad,
The song list for me was great, I am an Eagles man to heart, but at a festival you have thousends of people who come to see other bands, so the set list I think was good for people who did not know all the eagles tunes, I wished they played lyin Eyes, great song, but with the majority of the songs being fast is what keeps the non Eagles there, Thought everone on the day was great, 10CC top draw, Brandon Flowers, top draw ( not my scene) but will listen to some of my niece Killer tracks but between the sound changes from Brandon and Bryan ferry, the sound changed, bryan did the best he could as did the Eagles, it was not there usual polished set, I still had agreat time, great 40th Birthday gift from my wife, we are going back tomorrow to see Prince, hope getting out of the car park is better than over the hour it took ? but oh well was worth a great day just 25 miles from our door, as to Glen droping songs, I would not look too deep into it, the set was bang on for a festival, the only gripe I have is with the organisers, the poor disabled people were treated like second class citezens, this was bang out of order, the area was approx no bigger than 6m by 15m, what a joke, I suffer from spinal problems but there were people in wheelchairs who struggled to get a view because the festival organiser seems to think everyone is able bodied, why they cannot do a glastonbury or Isle of white is beyond me, but no put them at the back where no one can see them and we could not see the bands, even a couple of people left Half way through the eagles set to try and get round the other side to drown out the other stages, great day for myself and the wife and music lovers, but shame for the guys in wheelchairs.
The Eagles have still got it, loved the Helicoptor entrance and quick exit.
Gary:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::eyebr ow::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

FORGOT TO THANK THE STAFF AROUND THE DISABLED AREA, THEY WERE GREAT BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY, MANY THANKS GUYS AND GALS.

Hi all, finally back home and still feeling knackered. Needing matchsticks for my eyes but will post here before crashing as I know you want to hear all about it.

What a brilliant day it was yesterday. Sunny with white fluffy clouds and just the odd one black plus warm to hot at times. Met Carole at the hotel and then we were off on the long road to the festival. Car to station, train to Paddock Wood station, shuttle bus to the Hop Farm and then a small cross country walk. Boy did we walk some to see the boys  ............ and I'd do it all again lol. Carole, Hannah and I arrived about 1pm and headed straight for the main stage area. Lots of people already there and still lots more arrived after us. We started off about half way down the field. There wasn't a lot of space available in the place by early evening.

Agree with CJH that 10CC were amazing and really handled to power cut well. Brandon Flowers was totally brilliant too. (Lou, you would have been impressed with him. Oh and I have all bar the first song of his setlist noted for you plus some photos from the big screen. However I had my daughter's camera so my DH and DD2 could have the more expensive camera for their day out and sos they aren't fabulous pics apart from one. They are all from one of the screens though.) Bryan Ferry was very good too and then came the big moment. :nahnah:

By this time we had located Steph. Not an easy task as Carole will confirm lol. We'd also lost her and found her again ha! We are pretty sure that the guys arrived by the helicopter that came into the Farm during Bryan Ferry's set. Well if you can why not.

Showtime. The screens went off and the lights were low. Excited enough already, I think Steph added to our excitement with those words 'Here we go,' ............... and then the guys walked out. We were all surprised when we heard Hotel California but boy did it get a cheer from the crowd.

CJHill is right on the set list but what he didn't tell you was that the guys came on at 9.15 and went off at 10.45. Yep just 1 and half hours :ack: hence the dropping of 5 songs from the shortened setlist. Because of the time there wasn't much chatting going on from Glenn, or anyone really (until a bit later.) After PEF Glenn asked if everyone liked country rock at the Hop Farm. Huge cheer from the crowd.

At The Long Run, Don spoke and told us it was the last day of their tour and said 'And what a way to end it in the beautiful English countryside.' That got a big cheer too. He then asked how the hops were, (mobile beer sellers were walking round the crowd all day long.) After another cheer, he laughed and said, 'I can smell it from here' .

Austin, you would have been proud of us as we did a little guitar spotting. Love those sparkly ones of Joe's :hilarious: Boy did he play well. They all did. All the guys sounded amazing. Harmonies were spot on and NO bum notes. They didn't get to introduce the band - lack of time I guess? After LITFL they went off and the crowd errupted calling 'Eagles, Eagles' and cheering. It wasn't long before they came back on for the encore. Glenn came back out with a baseball cap on back to front and looked 'cute'. All too soon it was Desperado.

They waved goodbye and Glenn blew kisses to the crowd, even Don blew kisses to the crowd. Must have been a good day for him lol. Not sure about the other two. They all seemed in very good spirits and I felt the crowd were very appreciative of how awesome the Eagles are. Certainly around us there was a lot of singing and dancing. Hopefully the guys enjoyed themselves I know we all did in our group.

Now the bad news. I didn't get very good photos. Most of mine are at a distance because we weren't up close to the stage. Carole and Steph might have had more luck but I know even they gave up trying. I do have some and will sort them out asap. (Might take me a couple of days unless I can throw my DH off the PC. So having broken my Eagles virginity I am ready to see them again and this time a full seated 3 hour concert please.

Had no troubles getting out and back to the bus to the station then to the pick up point for my DH to get us in the car. Got back to the hotel about 1am I'm told (my eyes weren't focussing then lol.)

Clothes because I know you like to know. Hmm, let me remember, Don was in grey shirt but with a long sleeved black top under and black trousers. Joe had on his red leather jacket and ??? other things lol. Glenn had a shirt under the black sweatshirt/jumper and trousers. Tim had ... erm... clothes on. Something dark but can't remember if it was a shirt or jacket oh and he had trousers on. (Sorry Willie lol.) Well it was hard to see and remember everything and I am a novice ha ha.

Carole and Steph it was great meeting you, had fun sharing the experience with you, and maybe we can do it again when they come back, and I hope they do sometime soon.

Thanks for the awesome reviews cj, ok1, and Annabel! I'm so glad all of you had a great time. Our guys are great no matter what. It is a shame that Glenn only sang three songs, but I agree that it's hard to speculate why. It makes sense that if there was a time limit and/or curfew of about 90 minutes that they would want to rock out more. I can see why they might cut Lyin' Eyes and TITTL, but, if that's the case, why leave in LROOE and cut How Long??? I guess inquiring minds want to know, but, oh well, I guess we never will.

Aw, I'm glad you guys had a good time, despite the fact that it was a shorter show. (Festivals and casino shows are often this way, unfortunately!) Annabel, your review was great. I'm thrilled you are no longer an Eagles virgin, and I'm sure you are eager for your second time! ;) Thanks for taking some notes on Brandon Flowers for me, too - you're a sweetheart.

As for the outfits, I refuse to believe that I heard the words "grey shirt" again...!

I am hesitant to get into another debate about Glenn's songs being dropped, but I do agree that it's difficult to speculate - festival sets ARE different. The show that Steph went to recently was not so extreme. I wouldn't worry too much, although I can understand that Glenn fans present might have been hoping for more. All I will say is that I think Glenn might find the accusation that his "heart is not in it anymore" slightly insulting. He is in his sixties, touring extensively, and he has just announced solo shows. I believe he still has a hunger to do this, and I also believe he would have the integrity and sense to know if the day comes when he absolutely cannot do it anymore. I also very much doubt the idea that Don and Joe are somehow "forcing" their songs on him. From everything we've heard, Glenn is the leader. He makes many of the decisions, particularly regarding set lists. He is in no way a pushover. He has himself stated that "Don is our chief vocalist and chief lyricist" - hey, maybe Glenn is just HAPPY to play guitar and jam for a portion of the concert, without worrying about having to sing lead! Who knows. But I do think some of the theories, once again, are a little over the top, and slightly unfair to Glenn and the other guys.

I must agree with Troub also on the why's of Glenn's even fewer songs. I just can't believe he can't do it or doesn't want to do it when he's scheduled solo shows.

He seems to be leaning more to this as the years pass. Has anybody seen the setlist from Monaco to compare it to the Hop Farm Festival? I haven't been able to find one.

At the Hop Farm Festival they dropped How Long, TITTL and Lyin' Eyes. Otherwise it was the same as Monaco. You can find that setlist in some of the European review topics (Hamburg is one).

My issue is that GLENN's songs are dropped. Nobody else's.

And I'm sorry, but he is as much of a lead singer as Joe and Don are. Surely people would agree that he is still technically a better singer than Joe is at least? A minority of people (well, me) go to see them to hear HIM sing.

If he doesn't want to do it then he doesn't, but as one of his greatest fans, to me this is not what the Eagles are about, and I can't help feeling that way. I feel hurt & confused by this. I wish I didn't but I do.

I have to say that I think the Sun's review about the 'string of lesser known hits' was somewhat telling; because the Joe solo songs are not as well known as any of the songs that have been dropped, except for LBG & RMW (and I'm not even that sure about LBG; but it's a 'crowd pleaser', isn't it). I don't know how well known Dirty Laundry is in Britain.

Yes, Glenn is the leader & writes the setlist. That is what makes this even harder to understand. As I said in the above post only his songs are dropped. Eagles songs. NEVER solo songs & never Don & Joe's songs.

There has to be a way of coming to terms with this & accepting it; but as long as I can't understand why solo songs cannot be dropped I'm afraid I am finding it almost impossible. So I will try & forget this & think about next month, and that will probably be the end as far as I am concerned.

All this probably sounds hysterical & overblown, not to mention selfish from my viewpoint, for which I should apologise, but the fans of the other members don't have this problem.

Also it appears I am the only person on this board who 'has this problem' so it's time I shut up about it.

I'm willing to bet this is just temporary. Something is going on with Glenn that is causing this, but I predict that in Las Vegas, we'll see the normal set back for the Eagles. If that's not the case, then it's very likely the days of the 3-hr sets are over. :(

Regardless, I for one am profoundly grateful Glenn is doing the solo shows.

FP - you're not the only one who's concerned, but you're the only one who's so extreme in your reactions. Declaring Glenn should "hang it up" and that your fandom will end because he's not performing more leads is much further into the realm of negativity than I have any desire to go.

Lest I forget... thank you for your reviews, ochiba and Annabel!

LBG charted as well here as it did most places from what I can see. It is the only single I bought of Joe's. (Shhh! Don't tell him.) Dirty Laundry appears on the radio here quite often, at least on mine it does. Also heard it on the radio as we drove home yesterday from another radio station and it was very well received and sung along to at the festival. All the songs were very well received I thought.

Had a good time at the Hop Farm Festival. Great to meet Melanie & Hannah, and Carole(thanks for finding me - twice!).
Getting to Paddock Wood was a nightmare for me as I drove up on Friday afternoon - lots of people driving home from work - and there was an accident just in front(fortunately I didn't see it happen) which blocked the road & it was about 45 mins before the police got everything organised so we were able to turn around & got back down the duel-carriageway the wrong way to get to an exit.(While waiting, I was appalled by a lady driver who was making a fuss about being delayed getting home from work, when they might have been people killed or badly injured in the accident. I had to stop myself going over to her & telling her to just SHUT UP).:enraged:
Then it was off onto a slow road through a built-up area, with crossing lights ever few hundred yards. It took me about 90 mins to do the last 40 miles!
What we go through for our beloved Eagles. Still in was worth it in the end.

Heard Bryan Ferry as I wallked from the car park & saw the last 20 mins or so of his set, and being a 40+ I knew the songs!

We say the Eagles arrive in their helicopter.

A lot has been said about the set, and it was a little odd I felt, but probably designed to keep it short, fast & appeal to those who are not Eagles fans as such. LROOE was the only one which might not have been known to non-Eagles fans, and maybe that was to say 'Hey, we HAVE done some new stuff recently....go check out the album'.

I wasn't close enough to get any good photos; I'll post a couple, but don't expect them to be good! We watch the screens mainly & used binoculars. Just had to get a close look at my darling Will - and he looked beautiful as usual. Each time I see him he looks more handsome & attractive than the previous time.:inlove:

Had a good time singing & dancing with Melanie & Carole. I had forgotten they were Eagles virgins.
People around us were calling out between each song for Desperado , and we were answering them with 'not yet'. It came quick enough anyway.

Melanie & Carole - While the Eagles performance was amazing as usual, you must get to see a full show; you've had a 'quickie' but now you need to 'Take it to the Limit' if you get my meaning(apologies to board moderators for sexual inuendo ) Hope you get the chance soon , and that I'll see you there!

I thought the Hop Festival was well organised, except the other stages were too close to the main stage.

The drive home was much better - hardly any traffic & I took the longer but faster route, with the Eagles playing on the cd and me singing along. Had to have a short stop for a coffee at the services to keep me awake.
Got home at at about 3:20am having done a round trip of about 340 miles(8 hours of driving! just for the Eagles and my darling Will).

Hi everyone
I'm Home!!..........Had a brilliant time and it was lovely to meet Mel and Steph :) :) - The Boys were Fabulous but as has already been said not on for long enough.
I'm sorry i've not reported in before now but i've got my brother & sil staying so haven't really had much spare time and this morning we had to take my sil to hospital - but that's another story........anyway I won't be on here much til Wed or Thurs when they've gone home
The photo's you guys have posted look great from what i've seen.....mine were crap....anyway speak later..

Steph, I admire your dedication! Thanks for posting your thoughts on the setlist and the show. Very cool that you saw their helicopter arrive. Makes me think of A Star Is Born... Haha. I love the photos, especially the one of Don and Joe, and the last one you posted of Don. Gorgeous!

Great pictures once again, Steph!!!!

Yes, Glenn is the leader & writes the setlist. That is what makes this even harder to understand. As I said in the above post only his songs are dropped. Eagles songs. NEVER solo songs & never Don & Joe's songs.

:sigh: This may come off as sounding harsh, but you should be lucky you're not a Timothy fan! He HAD 2 songs total and they've now dropped one of those. Before long, he'll be no more than one of the backup band!! And please do NOT come back at me and tell me "well he's not one of the founding members" (either is Joe) or "he's never had that much anyways", etc.... I'm just happy to see him still on that stage and doing what he does best. I'll take what I can get after 30+ years!

Don't get your hopes up they are far worse than Steph's photos. They give you an idea how far away the stage was too. :hilarious: I will try to work on them tomorrow to see if I can make anything more worthwhile out of them. Wishing I'd taken our camera not my DD2's now. Even though they might not have been much better. Need one with a really long lens I think. Hmm, might get away as press maybe then. ;)

I said this a few days ago but I'll say it again, Timothy may never have had many lead vocals but he is a vital part of the Eagles sound. He makes a huge vocal contribution to every song and they just wouldn't sound the same without him. He'll never be 'no more than one of the backup band'.
I'm also happy to see him on stage doing what he does best.

Well now that you mention it, I believe Molly was part of the dinner conversation when the nicknames were all being discussed.
