Great! Jackson is going to be inducted in to the Songwriters Hall of Fame!

He certainly deserves it!

Congratulations to Jackson. On the radio last night they played Lyin' Eyes followed by Running On Empty, and I was made up!
Jackson was one of husband's albums that we used to listen to. Only a few days ago, he admitted that he preferred Jackson to the Eagles. I just bit my tongue. (After all, he does put up with my obsession!)

This is long overdue. I think Jackson is great, but with all due respect to hubby, GEF, there is a reason Henley and Frey were voted in first.

I really like him! :smitten: But so many of his songs make me cry!

I completely agree with this sentiment. It's amazing how his songs have the ability to touch you personally. In a lot of his songs, he expresses exactly what I had been thinking, but previously never had the words for.
Congratulations to him, it is definitely well-deserved.

I agree with the sentiment that this is long over-due. Jackson is an amazing song writer. Great pics Brooke. He still looks so great. It's just not fair! Why do these men get better looking with age while I just get older?

Cool, tlr! Thanks for the heads up!

I have many of his cd's (also the old vinyls) and Solo Acoustic Vol.1. I like it a lot, but really don't want to hear the intros every time I play it. I made a compilation with out those, which I love! :D

Another very gifted musician.

Thanks for the heads up TLR. I'll have to look for it. Funnily enough, I was just thinking recently that I should pick up vol. 1 as I had never gotten around to purchasing it, but want it. I love Jackson's use of piano. I still remember the first time I heard Load Out/Stay back in the 70's. When he delivers the line "just make sure you've got it all set to go before you come for my piano" and then he just goes off on the keyboard...it blew me away back when I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper. I'm still a sucker for piano.

Jackson Browne is coming here in October to perform at the Alabama Theater, a beautiful and historic movie theater and stage in downtown Birmingham, and I just got tickets. Have any of you seen him in concert?

Yes once in Austin, Texas. It was maybe 1981/82. I was not that big a fan of his at the time (hubby was) so I thought it was a good show but not great. However, that was a long time ago and he's grown on me somewhat since then so I would appreciate him more now. Have fun.

Thanks. I like a number of his songs, and of course he has a deep Eagles connection, so it should be a good show.

Great, DF! I haven't seen Jackson in concert, but would love to. What a wonderful talent he is. We have 5 or 6 of his early albums. He is coming to St. Louis in October and I want to go sooooo bad, but I've already heard hubby say he would not want to go see him because so many of his songs are sad and depressing and I just don't know if I could take it in concert. I'd probably be crying during the whole show. I haven't ruled it out though. I have to get through the Eagles show on Sept. 20th first.

I think Toon and Witchy Mummy have both seen him.

Funny, I heard on the radio today that he has changed very little from what he looked like in the seventies and that he looks nowhere near a man in his early sixties.

Now who else does that remind me of.......?;-)

I saw Jackson Browne back in the late 80s or early 90s. I had a front row seat. It was a good show, but unfortunately I have always found him a bit too earnest. I listen dutifully to the songs that I have (I only own Late For The Sky, The Pretender and Running On Empty) but the title track of The Pretender is the only song of his that really means much to me. As an Eagles fan I should be a huge fan of him, but there are other people the Eagles worked with in the 70s who in my opinion are much more interesting artists, i.e. Randy Newman and the late Warren Zevon.

But regarding his appearance, check out the cover of his new album Time The Conqueror:

I know, Fp! I saw that when I got the email about his tour!

I've always thought him very cute. Not sure about all that facial hair though!

I have to be in the right mood to listen to his music. Not all of it is down, but a lot of it is. Either way, I'm a huge fan.

Do any of you watch the show 'Living with Ed' on the Planet Green Channel. Jackson Browne was on that. Apparently he is very 'green' and is living 'off the grid' at his home. Ed (Ed Begley Jr.) was very impressed - lol. If you haven't seen 'Living with Ed' it's worth a look. He is very 'green' and he is always trying to come up with new green ideas which his long suffering wife has to put up with. It's very amusing and also has some good ideas.

Jackson Browne is one of hubby's favourites and always a good 'neutral' album to listen to in the car. He has The Very Best Of compilation and Running On Empty, which was the first time I'd heard of Jackson, when I met my husband to be and looked through his tape collection. I used to listen to that, and Darkness On The Edge Of Town by Springsteen, and Joe's But Seriously Folks, when he was away for months in the Navy. I prefer Jackson's more upbeat numbers like Doctor My Eyes and Running On Empty. I like his Take It Easy, but naturally prefer the version by that other guy.:)

If he comes to the UK, I'll definitely get tickets.

Not so sure about that facial hair though! ( Brooke, I've just realised that I've almost quoted you word for word!)

tbsf, it's good to hear that Jackson is promoting a green lifestyle.

I think Toon and Witchy Mummy have both seen him.

Yeah, both WM and I saw him in 2006 with David Lindley at the Theatre Royal. It was a fantastic show, even though WM and I both made Jackson cringe when he left it to the audience to sing the last bit of Stay. We must have been the only ones singing, but we didn't care!!!

DF--you'll have a great time and I am jealous, because he is coming here (GEF-check http://www.jacksonbrowne.com/tour/ and scroll to the bottom) and I just can't afford it. I'm really looking forward to the the new album though.

Thanks for the link, Toon, (and nice to hear from you again). Sorry you won't be able to go. Perhaps something will come up. I see there is a date in Birmingham on my birthday! Bristol would be nearer though. When my other half gets back, I'll see if he wants to go, and if not I have a friend at work who said she'd love to see him.

The Best of Jackson Browne is great. It has all his most popular songs and would be a great introduction.

If you want to dig deep, I would start with the beginning-Saturate Before Using. It has Doctor My Eyes, Jamaica Say You Will, and Rock Me On The Water, some of my faves.

I love Jackson Browne's version of Opening Farewell too. I've only heard it done by Bonnie Raitt but I found it on Saturate Before Using and I was suprised. That song always makes me cry.

I don't know that one, but I'll have to look out for it. I had 'Lives In The Balance' on the Miami Vice soundtrack cd before I bought The Best Of. Running On Empty was the first Jackson Browne album we had, and stands the test of time.

I'm not going to see Jackson because I'd hoped to see Neil Young, and I missed out on that.:headshake:

The Lindemans Winery show in the Hunter Valley would be fun. I've always wanted to go to something like that but it's a day trip from Sydney. That is interesting that he is doing Cairns and Townsville. These are places that are too small for the Eagles.

And Gateshead, back in hubby's old hometown, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Why can't I imagine a hall full of Geordies and Jackson Browne?:eyebrow:

My hubby & I, plus my friend Ann & her hubby, saw Jackson Browne at the Alabama Theater last night, and it was a wonderful show. Here is the approximate set list:

Boulevard
Barricades of Heaven
Everywhere I Go
Fountain of Sorrow
Time the Conqueror
Off of Wonderland
Live Nude Cabaret
Culver Moon
Giving That Heaven Away
Dr. My Eyes/About My Imagination (another memorable version)
(Intermission)
Something Fine
For Taking the Time
Lives In The Balance
Going Down to Cuba
Just Say Yeah
The Drums of War
Far From the Arms of Hunger
The Pretender
Running on Empty
I Am A Patriot (encore)

Where Were You was added somewhere in the first set.

The Alabama Theater is our beautiful, majestic old-timey movie palace/ theater in downtown Birmingham, a small venue that Jackson said he loved, having played here twice before on his acoustic tour. This was my first time to see him. Jackson seemed relaxed, talkative, in very good voice and appeared to be having a great time performing. Since I had gone on his website and knew he had a set list, I was amazed at how many people yelled out songs all throughout the show, and even more amazed that he actually performed a few of them. When someone called out Where Were You, he said, "All right, I love that song, we will get in soon," and he did. He was backed by a great band, including two young black singers with amazing voices. One of the singers was so young that Jackson said the first time they rehearsed they had to end early because "it was a school night." Anyway, outstanding musicians all!

We heard quite a bit from the new record, since that's what this tour is all about, but I don't have it yet so I was waiting for the familiar hits such as Boulevard, Doctor my Eyes, & Running on Empty. They were all great! (No Take It Easy, though.)

Unfortunately our seats weren't so great because I bought the least expensive seats ($51.50--saving money for the Eagles !). We were on the very back row of the mezzanine. During the intermission we noticed several scattered empty seats down front, and my friend Ann knew one of the security guards in front of the stage, so we went down to talk to him and he said they don't check tickets during the second half so come on down. I ended up watching the rest of the show from a great seat on the end of the third row! When I first sat down, the woman beside me got ugly though--she said "Did you pay for that seat? Because I got online the morning the concert went on sale and paid dearly for mine!" I said, "I paid for a seat in the mezzanine but several very large, tall men are front of me blocking my view, and thank you for letting me move here since no one was using this seat." She didn't like it but she shut up. :ziplip: Anyway, it was great being that close, and when Jackson started The Pretender, everyone rushed the stage and stood there until the show was over.

Concert was done about 10:15, so a group of us (about 20-25 people) waited in the parking lot near the tour buses for almost an hour. I had my Saturate Before Using album and a sharpie ready, but our guard friend said Jackson didn't sign autographs :-( but he would come out and speak with us briefly. He finally came out, and although it was cold and he looked tired, he was very gracious and spoke with most of us and posed for a few photos. I stood right beside him and he smiled at me, and Ann was just about to take our picture when his assistant abruptly said, "That's all," and hustled him onto the bus. Oh well, I was close enough for a smile!

Anyway, it was a wonderful show. If you get a chance to see him, by all means, go!

Thanks, y'all--it was fun.
I have the book "Hotel California" by Barney Hoskyns, and he wrote about Jackson Browne & the Eagles in the book. One book reviewer wrote this:

"Hoskyns offers insightful sketches of many of the period’s landmark records. For example, Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty was the “most trenchant account of the hollowness at the heart of late 1970s rock…the album was about being a rock star—about sex, drugs, and tour buses, and the intermittent feeling that rock and roll had become an empty ritual.” And the Eagles’ Hotel California album “became a state of mind,” Hoskyns asserts, “the land of blue jeans and cocaine, mirror shades reflecting palm trees, blond hair flowing from convertibles on freeways that led to the ocean.”

DF, it sounds like a great evening, and how sweet that Jackson made an appearance outside at the end. I'd really like to see him when he comes to the UK, and hubby is making positive noises about it, but so far I'm pulling up nosebleed seats. Would you say that that matters?

DonFan
10-27-2008, 05:29 PM
Nosebleed seats would probably be okay, GEF. Jackson didn't use a screen or special lighting, he just sang, told stories, talked to the audience, and responded to requests. It was a very, very good show.

I feel the same way about Leonard Cohen, Jess. He came to my hometown in November but a combination of not being aware until the last minute, and having no funds, meant I couldn't go. I'm still gutted. I'm sure you'll get the chance to see Jackson again.

I've been listening to him a lot lately, and his voice makes me melt. Something Fine is one of my favourites. You know the Don thread about "which vocal moments make you weak in the knees?" Well, the "you know it's taken its share of me, even though you take such good care of me" part from SF would definitely be on my list of Jackson moments. Just gorgeous.

I saw his solo-acoustic show last March 2008, and it was beautiful. I enjoyed every minute of it. Although, there were a few in the crowd that were opposed to the song Drums of War, and they had the audacity to "boo" him while he was singing. I was highly disappointed with that. I don't always agree with artists singing their political view songs, but I would never be rude while they are performing. Hopefully this time around the opposing concertgoers will have more respect.

Helloooooooo!

Sorry, darned computers and losing notebook meant I couldn't write anything up.

However, have found notebook and this is the review of the first half of concert.

Jackson came on stage a couple minutes after 8pm to an ovation from the fans and launched into Boulevard and as he did so, Witchy Mummy grabbed the notepad I had to write down the setlist and scribbled “blue jeans, black shirt, black shoes”. The song went down brilliantly and you could tell the audience were thrilled to be there. Next came Everywhere I Go which again the crowd loved. It seemed we were an audience eager to hear anything Jackson had to play. On introducing Barricades Of Heaven Jackson said it’s a song about finding the person you are going to be and for him that was in southern California. Jackson took to the piano for Fountain Of Sorrow and sounded wonderful.

Next up came an introduction to a set of songs from the new album. First up was Time The Conqueror which sounded amazing. Jackson then started chatting about a part of LA that he kept going to, visiting people and then moved to. It was the only green place in LA, well not the only, but the only one you could live in. There was an influx of freaks to the area and somehow he hadn’t noticed it happened, living in Orange County, but in Laurel Canyon it had started happening and it was happening around the world. Off Of Wonderland is about a street in LA but also partially inspired by Lewis Carroll. This song was absolutely wonderful to hear live.

Then came Live Nude Cabaret. Jackson was quite funny introducing it he said that here (England) we probably pronounce the “t” at the end and we all said no. The song came to him whilst e was at a stop light, and that yes, its not all freeways, though that’s what he heard! He was listening to a Ben Harper song-Power of the Gospel and he saw a sign to the “Live Nude Cabaret”. It wasn’t a big billboard sign that you get for… “gentlemens clubs”, it was more of a hand lettered sign. “I kept going of course” (with much laughter from the audience).

Giving That Heaven Away was followed by Sky Blue And Black. As soon as Jackson started playing WM sighed and she was happy!

Doctor My Eyes segued into About My Imagination and then came the interval.

I will type the second bit up and post this weekend. I've also managed to get tickets to go to next weeks concert as well!!! I'll be going with my boyfriend, who really likes Jackson as well, so it will be great fun to go again.

I've just got home after the JB concert and, um... Don who?

OK, obviously I'm kidding, but wow, that man puts on an incredible show! I'm too tired to recount everything right now (and I didn't make notes, so I'd probably make some mistakes) but he had an amazing setlist. It was similar to the one Toonlass posted, but he didn't do Sky Blue and Black, These Days or Your Bright Baby Blues. They're all favourites of mine so I was hoping he would sing them but honestly - it didn't matter. The rest of the show more than made up for it. He did a beautiful version of Late For The Sky, and introduced Just Say Yeah as "one of my favourites... at the moment, anyway." I was chuffed, because it's one of mine too!

His voice was gorgeous, very strong, and when he sang Live Nude Cabaret and got to those deep notes, I melted a little. He was so warm, gentle and funny, and he had lots of banter with the audience. At one point he was at the mic with his guitar, ready to start singing, when someone yelled "Jamaica!" He chuckled, started to protest that the band didn't know it too well, then got rid of the guitar, sat down at the keys and sang it. It was beautiful. People then proceeded to shout out songs a lot and he laughed and said "Now, I don't want you to get the idea that I'm gonna stand here and do whatever you want." Pause. "Although you never know what might happen..."

There was a very emotional moment when he sang For A Dancer and dedicated it to Steve Burton, a guitarist and friend of his who died about a week and a half ago, apparently. He said he had worked with Bonnie Raitt and with Kris Kristofferson for a long time. I couldn't help but shed a few tears.

The emotion was balanced with lots of humour though. He apologised to one guy near the front because apparently there was "an inexplicable patch of light" shining on him during the first set. Jackson gave him some sunglasses, then took them back because he'd forgotten that they were prescription and the guy wouldn't be able to see him. LOL.

He seemed genuinely humbled by the audience response, and we got two encores. He came back out and said "We don't normally do this one... just when we feel like it" and launched into Take It Easy! I screamed! I thought of you guys straight away. The whole audience was on its feet, and he rocked it!

The second time he came out, he sang Stay. It must have gone on for about 10, 15 minutes. It was fantastic! The audience was into it, he was into it, and it was such an uplifting end to the show. He shook hands with some audience members at the end, and seemed genuinely grateful for the response and enthusiasm. Anybody else who goes will have an incredible night, I promise you.

A few photos I took. They're not too clear, but I thought they were worth posting.

It sounds like he was in a wonderful mood at the concert you saw, even if he didn't do my favorite song, "Sky Blue and Black"! He did "Take it Easy", and that must have been very special!

Those were great reviews Lou and Toonlass. Thanks so much for sharing them with all of us. I loved the pics too. Reading your reviews makes me even more excited to see JB this August. I sure hope that he does Sky Blue and Black. That's one of my favorites by him.

Lou, I got all excited too when I read that he did Take It Easy. I'm sure I'll be the same way when I see him in concert.

Last night I had tickets to see Jackson. The place had a small pavillion and the lawn seating is where people set up elaborate pinics, not just sit on the ground like a regular concert. It's really quite interesting to see.

We get there, set up the chairs, portable table, set out the candle and flowers, open the vino and prepare the food. We have a perfect view of the video screen too. As we are relaxing waiting for the show to begin, it's starts to rain, heavily! With out best efforts of plastic table clothes, poncho's, blankets etc, we ended up drenched! My one friend who drove was miserable and she suggested we pack up and leave. What could I say, I came with her, we were soaking wet and whatnot... but I said, let's give it a while and see if we are freezing when the rain stops. Well, thanfully she agreed to stay and we had the best night! It was so fun and Jackson was amazing!!!

The show was set to start at 7:30, so my friends figured he'd have an opening act... but no, at 7:30 Jackson stepped on stage. He played for three hours w/a 15 min intermission. Like our boys, he knows how to do it right! Mind you, my lawn ticket was only $27! (well worth it)

I can't tell you all the songs he played, but each one sounded great. I was trying to take mental notes, but by the next song, I had forgotton what I wanted to say. I immediately thought of Soda and how she remembers all these little details... and here I am, can't remember from one song to the next! I do remember the little things he did... like mention two of his bandmates were from Chicago, which of course drew great applause, seeing as how we were in a Chicago suburb. Also, during two of his songs, he inserted Chicago, the blues and Ravinia (the name of the venue) in the lyrics and of course people love that stuff. It makes them feel connected somehow. :) My other friend actually has musical talent and she kept commenting on how Jackson sings in the exact same key he did thirty years ago. It was truly amazing how fantastic he sounded... actually, I was amazed at his vocals. As age sets in, lets face it, most people sing lower due to natural change in your voice... but not Jackson. He did equal time between the keyboard and guitar and looked so at ease the whole time. He sang Take it Easy and the entire place was singing along with him. He has two of the most talented back up singers, Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills. OMG, they were brilliant!

He ended the show with Stay... and of course there really is the line, "we got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago"... well... for the last song, it' was so perfect. If anyone has the chance to see Jackson, I say go for it, you will not be disappointed. Rain soaked and wet for three hours, we loved it!

Sounds like you still had a good time, ltlh. I'd love to see him.

That reminded me of a number of years ago (like probably 20 years!) my daughter and I went to see the Oak Ridge Boys in a nearby town and it rained buckets during the whole show! We sat out in it in our lawn chairs and umbrella, but still got soaked to the bones. Even so, we had fun and it was a great show!

Music can have the power to make it all right!

First off, Lou, thanks for the good wishes for the Jackson Browne/Steve Earle concert! I had a ball, and I can't wait to tell everyone all about it!
I have been a Jackson Browne fan since the early seventies, around the time I began listening to the Eagles! I didn't actually see him in concert, though, til 2008, just like the Eagles! However, I was able to see him several times, so I guess I was making up for lost time.:)
I have to say, though, that last night's concert was the best I have ever seen him!
I'll start off, though, by talking about Steve Earle's portion of the show. When I bought my concert ticket to see JB in March, I had barely heard of Steve. I did have one of his cassettes from the 80's, "Copperhead Road", and I remembered playing it a lot in my car back then, and enjoying it.
I rediscovered Steve in May, when he released an album of songs by Texas singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt, who is a great favorite of mine. I was so impressed with how he interpreted Townes's songs, that I began listening to Steve's own songs, and found I just loved them. So seeing Steve open for JB was a HUGE treat for me.
Of course, many people just came to see Jackson, and during Steve's set, there were two woman sitting beside me talking VERY loudly. They had come in late, and talked during one of my favorite Steve songs, "My Old Friend the Blues". After a few seconds of listening to their incessant chatter, I couldn't take it anymore. I leaned over and said, "Could you ladies please stop talking? This is one of my favorite singers, and I can't HEAR him!" This shut them up, and I was able to enjoy the rest of Steve's set.
Jackson played for about two and a half hours! He was very chatty with the crowd, and did many favorites of mine including "Sky Blue and Black", "Barricades of Heaven", "Fountain of Sorrow", "Rock Me on the Water", and " The Pretender". (Sadly, he didn't do "Take it Easy")
During the Pretender, there was this sudden mass migration to the stage! I, of course, came along too. Therefore, I was standing right by the stage when Jackson invited Steve to come back on and do a song with him. They did a rousing version of Steve's song, "I Ain't Ever Satisfied", and Steve got everyone singing along. It was a magic moment, and especially standing so close to the stage like that! I thought I had died and gone to heaven.:hilarious:
Jackson ended his concert with "Stay/The Load-out", and had the entire place singing with him-I never wanted the night to end!

EV, this was Camden, and I was shocked that the security was so lax there! They didn't mind all of us "storming the stage" at all! No one tried to actually get up on the stage:hilarious:, but we got as close as we could. And I do remember how security was in Hershey-they NEVER would have allowed us to storm the stage while the Eagles played!:-( Like you said, they wouldn't even let us NEAR the stage after the Eagles left. All you wanted to know was whether they got your chocolate kisses!
Brooke, yes, there are pics, but we will need to wait for my son to come home and help put them on. Hubby actually ended up going to the concert after all, and he took some great pics, as he also stormed the stage-surprised me, but he said he knew I would want pics! Yes, I somehow got the feeling that it was somewhat of a "tradition" for fans to migrate to the stage during "The Pretender". I would bet Jackson told the security ahead of time to let people walk up there. I noticed people were pretty good about not pushing and shoving-at least in the area where I was standing, which was pretty close to the stage. Everyone was just singing, dancing, and having a good old time. I loved it!:partytime:

Thanks all. Five more days!:blueblob:

There is some kind of back-story about his back-up singers but I can't recall all the details. He hand picked them though I do remember that much because of some interaction he had with them when they were still teenagers.

And, yes he is very chatty in concert something I find a lot of singer-songwriters do. Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon, Don Henley, and Lindsey Bucingham are very talkative. I enjoy listening to them but a lot of fans eventually tell them to "shut up and play." Jackson is the most spontaneous though and will talk to the audience rather than at them.

I have no idea where I am sitting as we won't get our seats until the night of. I'm hoping for front row and will take plenty of pix/videos. The Greek is very good about that. I may or may not add San Diego-two hour drive for me on a school night (I'm a teacher.)

Last time I drove to San Diego (to see Fleetwood Mac in May) I had car trouble and had to spend the night. Can't afford another one of those trips. I was very lucky that night because there was a hotel and a car repair shop right across the street from the venue. I consider that my free pass for the year as I am not a very lucky person and don't necessary want to tempt the hand of fate. Jackson though :bow:might be worth the risk.

Yeah, my boss was totally cool about changing my schedule around for next week because he knows that i'm reliable. I've never been late, never called in, I stay late when they ask me too, and i've worked on my days off when they've called me in. I usually try to take a lot of pics but i'm not exactly sure where our seats will be. I think we'll be in the 10th row or so but I could be wrong about that. First of all, it was a hot and muggy August evening and even though we were all shoulder to shoulder at our seats we all still had a wonderful time. I knew that we were somewhere around the 10th row but i was thinking that we were in the 10th row after the vip seats but i was wrong. When we got there we were handed our 10th row tickets along with a vip pass. Sadly, that pass didn't allow us backstage. We had a really good view of J.B. on stage as well as a good view of the big screen just to the left of us.

I gotta say that every minute of this concert was fantastic. This concert by far exceeded my expectations. I was thinking that it would be a very intimate and mostly acoustic type of concert but i was surprised by how much Jackson and his band rocked out. I must admit to not knowing all of his songs but I'm darn sure gonna be buying more of his cds. I look forward to learning more of his songs especially his newest album Time The Conqueror. I was surprised that he played for a little over 2 and a half hours. His backup band was spot on and his two backup singers were amazing. Everytime those girls sang they got the crowd going just as much as Jackson did. They had such beautiful and soulful voices. Jackson definitely gives these girls as well as the rest of his band a chance to shine during his shows. I was so happy that he did Take It Easy. I was already very much enjoying myself and to hear him sing that was just icing on the cake. Jackson commented that he hadn't sung TIE in many years and that when he would sing it people would always think he was singing an Eagles cover. He does mention that he wrote it with Glenn Frey and he also adds that it has taken him till now to figure out how to play the song. I was able to get this song and a couple of others on video but I used my mom's camera to do video and I can't find the cord to hook it up to the computor. I've looked everywhere in my apartment and i've got my mom on the look out for it at her house but who knows where it's at. Hopefully it'll be found soon and i'll be able to upload the videos to share with you all.

During the encore he did I Am A Patriot, The Load Out, and Stay. All 3 songs were fabulous. I loved how he got the audience to sing along with him during Stay. Just like we do with the Eagles, I expected JB to sing Load Out and Stay. I looked at it as those being his Desperado. It's what the audience expects to hear and loves to sing along to.

I've always had my favorite JB songs and I was very happy that he sang most of them but i walked out of that concert an even bigger JB fan. There are more songs of his that I only "just liked" before and now they are among my favorites. For instance, Jamaica Say You Will and especially I Am A Patriot are a few of my new faves of his.

Here's a list of the songs that I remember him singing. They are by no means in the order he sang them. There were more songs but I can't remember them all.

Boulevard
Fountain of Sorrow
Off of Wonderland
In The Shape Of A Heart
The Naked Ride Home
Take It Easy
Time The Conqueror
Going Down To Cuba
Pretender
Doctor My Eyes
Running On Empty
Jamaica Say You Will
Rock Me On the Water
Sky Blue and Black
Barricades of Heaven
Redneck Friend
Somebody's Baby
I Am A Patriot

This time will be the second time seeing him solo acoustic, and I can hardly wait!!:partytime:

Peek, unfortunately I didn't get a pic of me with Jackson the time I met him VERY briefly-lol! Here's how it all went down:
It was a freezing night in April 2008, when hubby and I went to see Jackson in a solo acoustic concert in Connecticut. After the show, we decided to wait with a small group of fans, in hopes of saying hi to Jackson or maybe getting a pic or autograph. Since I didn't expect it to be so freezing cold, I was not dressed for the occasion-no hat, no gloves, and it was the kind of weather you would wish you did have both!
Our little group waited patiently for about an hour, and then, we were rewarded when Jackson came out of the building and headed straight over to where we were standing!! He very politely chatted with fans, signed autographs, and was his warm, friendly self. I was in such a state of shock, and nearly frozen too, that all I could do was stick out my hand and say, "Hi Jackson!" He shook my hand politely and exclaimed, "Your hand is freezing!!" I was in such a state of shock I could only gape at him. After it was over and Jackson got on his bus, I ran over to hubby and cried out, "Did you get a picture of me shaking Jackson's hand"? Hubby looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Oh, did you shake his hand?" He hadn't even noticed!:hilarious:
So that was my meeting with Jackson! I was so overwhelmed, I forgot to even ask him to sign an album insert I had brought along! Still, I am so grateful to have met him, no matter how brief the meeting, and even though I was a frozen fool!:hilarious:

I went to see Jackson in an acoustic, solo concert last night, and what a night it was! Jackson put on an absolutely fantastic show, singing for two hours, when it was obvious he was having throat problems. I love these acoustic shows, because he talks so much to the audience, and also does requests. I thought of all of you when someone called out for "Take it Easy". He said, "Does everyone want to hear "Take it Easy"?" And of course we all yelled "YEAH!!" He played a superb version, with everyone singing along!
Someone also called out for "Freebird", and surprisingly Jackson did it, and it sounded great on acoustic guitar. Someone also wandered out on stage and played electric along with him-maybe his guitar tech? He just played with him on "Freebird"-it was awesome!
He also did two Warren Zevon songs, which sounded fantastic, and "I Am A Patriot" by Steven Van Zandt.
He played my two favorite songs by him, "Barricades of Heaven" and "Sky Blue and Black", and I was in heaven at this point!!
Hubby and I were sitting a bit too far away to take pics, so we just laid back and enjoyed the show! I cannot wait to see Jackson again in an acoustic setting. It is very intimate, and even Jackson said he comes on with no set list, just lets the evening unfold- a perfect concert, in my opinion!:)

The singer-songwriter, who previously performed at the festival in 1982, began his career in the 1960s by writing for artists including Joan Baez, the Eagles and the Byrds, before finding solo success in the 1970s with his self-titled debut album and the live recording Running On Empty.

I half-heartedly thought about seeing JB in early Sept. here in Jersey, but by the time I found out about the tix, there weren't any great seats left. And it was the night before I was going to see Keith Urban, and I just felt a tad guilty on 2 concerts in 2 nights, considering both would have involved taking time off from work. The older I get, the more surreal it seems to me when I am able to go to a live concert of a performer(s) I have loved for 40+ years. First it was Paul McCartney (2002 and 2005), then the Eagles (2008, 2009), and now Jackson Browne. I've listened to their music my whole adult life, can remember specific events that happened while listening to certain songs - indeed, the soundtrack of my life. I also realize how bittersweet it is to finally see these performers relatively late in their careers. Simply put, they won't be doing it much longer. Some day all my favorites will be gone, and so with that in mind I revel in the joy each time I'm able to see them live.

It was my privilege to see Jackson Browne at The Lawn at White River State Park in Indianapolis last night. I had never been to the venue before and have to admit to a little nervousness when I read my ticket and it said Rain or Shine. However, once the forcast was in sight it was 'clear' that rain would not be a problem. I took a jacket with me just in case the September evening decided to turn chilly, but I didn't need it. In fact, I forgot it as we left. Hubby fortunately remembered it for me.

The Lawn looks like this.

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/chilca0001/The%20Lawn%20at%20White%20River%20State%20Park/TheLawn.jpg

The triangular area in front of the stage is reserved seating, while everything else you see is general admission, although even for GA they provide the chairs. One complaint - all of the chairs (including reserved seating) were those really low slung beach-type chairs. As soon as I sat down I said, "I hope Jackson understands why he doesn't get any standing ovations tonight." They have to know that the audience for these types of shows is going to be mostly 40+ and that once we get sat down in one of those things it's a funny sight to see us try to get up out of them. But I must say we baby boomers did ourselves proud and heaved ourselves up when the urge hit.

And it did frequently. Once we got through the short acoustic set with David Lindley, things started to heat up. The first song Jackson sang lead on was For Everyman, and tears welled up when I heard that ever familiar voice. He sounds just as good as he did in the seventies. The thought-provoking lyrics to his songs are just as relevant today as the day he wrote them. You can see the set list here. (http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/jackson-browne/2010/white-river-state-park-indianapolis-in-73d5ce0d.html)I had read these set lists before our show so I had an idea of what we would hear. The surprise song for us was These Days. Jackson said that while it had been requested during the tour they had not done it yet. What a treat to hear something added just for us! The whole show was very casual and when he decided to do These Days he walked around to each band member, taking his time, making sure everyone was on the same page as to what to do.

Did Jackson look like he'd aged? You bet he did, but it was okay because you knew you were getting the insight and the talent from all those years, all rolled up into one fantastic three hour show. Here (http://photos.indystar.com/galleries/10713-jackson-browne-at-white-river-state-park) are some pictures from last night. If you look closely in the last picture (#22) you can see Hubby's bright orange Fighting Illini cap, front row, right of stage. I'm sitting to his left.

The concert crescendoed to a climactic Doctor My Eyes and Running On Empty proving once again that 4,000 JB fans, some drunk, some just out of shape, could jump out of those damn chairs when necessary.

This show was so much more than I expected. With no big screens or stage pyrotechnics, in fact no lights off/lights on show starter (he and David Lindley simply walked out on stage together with no intro), Jackson Browne took me on a journey through my younger days, asking those thought-provoking questions about life and love. We still don't have all the the answers, but with the experience of time we can see that we don't need them. Just living life is enough.

Aw, thanks so much for the write-up, Cathy. I was thinking about you earlier and wondering what you thought of the show. (Although I knew you would love it!) Very Cool, Cathy!! I'm so glad that you got to see Jackson. And from the front row too. Great job scoring those seats. Those pics are great!! The set list is a bit different from when i saw him last year but then again he wasn't touring with David Lindley at the time. From the pics it looks like he's got some different background singers. I'm guessing that he didn't have the two African American girls with him. I remember being amazed by their voices last year. And even Jackson gave them plenty of applause after they sang.

That was a great review, PM. I'm really hoping I can get to see him one of these days. Must have been awesome sitting in that first row - way to go girl!

It was great. It would have been even better if those dang chairs weren't so low!

They've got a video up from my show! This was the last song before the encore, so by this time I was on my feet at the barricades in front of the stage. Two of those hands may be mine clapping!

You guys, please humor me. I can't get the JB concert off of my mind! Practically every moment of every day I have a JB song running through my head. This is one of my new faves. It's on his I'm Alive album that was released in 1993, but I'd never heard it until I wached the Going Home DVD shortly before my JB concert. This video is taken from the DVD.
