If your life were a movie (which it is), what would the soundtrack be?

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that plays
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

Dust In The Wind is by Kansas, though, TF?

Those are brilliant. I don't have time right now but I'll do another one next week.

I just love reading these! Some are so perfect and others are just plain funny!

Timfan -- did you get your version of Dust in the Wind off Limewire? Because I know someone has it by the Eagles. I believe FP is correct -- it was Kansas that did that one.

Anyway, these are great! Soda, I thought some of yours were pretty good! They didn't suck! I loved the song for Falling In Love! That was perfect!

I don't have time to do this right now, but I'll be back later to try again! Keep goin' everyone! I love reading these.

And Maleah, it was confusing. I tried breaking up your quote and my comments and it didn't quite come out as I wanted it to, But, yes, those were the songs I was referring to! They were so perfect!!

Well, I never had my picture taken with Davy Jones, (DonFan is very lucky!) but I did see the Monkees back in 1986! When I was six years old, I had a crush on Peter Tork. He was always my favorite, then Davy Jones! I'll have to track down that thread!

I agree - that song is beautiful. I too love Andrew Lloyd Weber's music. Love Phantom of the Opera.

COOL!

Your husband obviously has great taste in music! Does he like ELP, or does he just like Greg Lake? And Mott the Hoople -- he likes them I assume?

I know what you mean about showing your age! I feel the same way! Although, I don't mind, so long as what I'm "showing" looks about 10 years younger!!! 8)

BK, to answer your question, my husband is a MAJOR ELP/Emerson & Lake fan. We recently got the Greg Lake Live DVD. Lucky Man is one of the few songs that can make him cry.

As for Ian Hunter, of course he likes the Mott stuff, but I think he prefers the solo work - his favourite song of all time is Irene Wilde, which also makes him cry. We've got a couple of Hunter Live DVDs. But his all time hero is Frank Zappa. I'll ask him when & where he saw ELP/Hunter - probably back in Newcastle.

BTW the songs of mine you bolded, I assume they are favourites of yours too?

I'll compile another one of these soon. They are such fun! I love everyone else's musical choices!

FP -- I actually bolded the ones that I thought were funny and/or interesting! At the risk of sounding ignorant, I really only know two of the songs you listed! "One Love/People Get Ready". Isn't that terrible? I should at least be familiar with that 10CC song -- I love them! Oh well. There's a gazillion songs out there! I can't possibly know all of them!

By the way, I saw ELP back in 1977! God, they were great! I, too, have a few of their DVDs (some concert footage, some interviews, etc.). I don't have any Mott or Ian Hunter video -- just audio. Never seen him live either. Wish I had!! I really like him.

That is so sweet that your husband cries at hearing Lucky Man. It is a great song!! Beautiful melody, haunting ... and Greg Lake's voice ... well, need I say more? I am not familiar (once again) with the one you mention by Ian Hunter. I'm going to have to look up some of these songs. Everyone has such diverse taste! 8)

Randy Newman wrote Mama Told Me Not To Come. You can get it on Lonely At The Top, which is a compilation.

I Love LA is on Trouble In Paradise which is a great album. The best is Little Criminals on which four out of the five Eagles in 1978 appear. Glenn's harmony singing on Baltimore & Glenn & Don (both with Souther) on Rider In The Rain are worth the price of admission. Glenn also plays lead guitar on Baltimore & Short People & sings on Short People.

Wow! See? Now that was something I never knew! I only ever heard Three Dog Night's version, and assumed they had written it (or somebody wrote it for them). Which, in this case, did Randy Newman write it for them, or did they just do a version? Do you know? Either way, I've gotta get my hands on it because I love it, and I love Randy Newman's voice.

I also did not know that about the Randy Newman/Eagles association. Let me guess, the four out of five Eagles were: Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Don Felder and Joe Walsh. Or, am I wrong and Randy did that with them? Now, I want to hear all that stuff too! I'm also going to have to listen more closely to Short People.

Thanks for the info FP!! 8) I always like learning new stuff about the music that I like!

Freypower
04-20-2007, 08:03 PM
Randy wrote the song & Three Dog Night had a hit with it. They were notorious for not writing their hits.

You got the Eagles who are on Little Criminals correct. There are other examples. Glenn sings on Rednecks (from Good Old Boys). Don is on Take Me Back & Christmas in Capetown (from Trouble In Paradise). I also think Soda would want me to mention that Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie are on I Love LA. Can I also mention that another of my heroes, Mark Knopfler, produced most of Land Of Dreams & plays on the tracks he produced.

Don sings the role of Faust on Newman's concept album of the same name, along with a host of other stars (James Taylor as God) and frankly I don't recommend it.

Newman is one of THE great songwriters. I cite two examples - Sail Away, which describes a slave trader luring Africans to America, and God's Song, where God ruminates on why the world continues to worship him even when their lives are hard. Also Political Science which Don has sung ('let's drop the big one & see what happens').
