Randy Meisner's One More Song was released 31 years ago today :partytime:

I know not everyone has this album but all the songs are on youtube. I'll link to them so everyone can have a listen :)

1. Hearts on Fire (http://youtu.be/R8_x6qOrUf8)
2. Gotta Get Away (http://youtu.be/ypYEj1kDXcQ)
3. Come On Back to Me (http://youtu.be/xpRGV4sJXqw)
4. Deep Inside My Heart (http://youtu.be/AuPPVerlVd8)
5. I Need You Bad (http://youtu.be/unAlTgI_Jq4)
6. One More Song (http://youtu.be/HXUiuvHR8t0)
7. Trouble Ahead (http://youtu.be/A-7btB81zA8)
8. White Shoes (http://youtu.be/okwFZ3PclJg)
9. Anyway Bye Bye (http://youtu.be/9B6mYyuhuXE)

I listened to the album to try and rank the songs in order of personal preference and my list turned out to be in the same order as the track list. I love the whole album so I rank all the songs pretty evenly.

Missed out on this earlier! I think this is Randy's best album. Here is my list, from most favorite to least favorite:

1. Gotta Get Away - beautiful and moving; love the part that goes "this time in my life..."

2. Deep Inside My Heart - I always liked Kim Carnes back in the 80s and she sounds great with Randy on this one; plus, I love the driving beat

3. Hearts on Fire - catchy; love the "runnin' like a ragin' river" part

4. Come on Back to Me - another catchy one; love the "you need someone who really loves you" part

5. I Need You Bad - a nice soft song; like the sax

6. One More Song - a little on the maudlin side, but still good. It made me think of the Eagles.

7. Trouble Ahead - a little too "adult contemporary" for my tastes but not bad.

8. White Shoes - cute idea but the song isn't as interesting as the others on the album.

9. Anyway Bye Bye - downright boring.

I see the bottom half of my list is the same as whitcap's!

One of the things I like most about this album was that Randy co-wrote most of the songs on it. The only covers are the two Jack Tempchin ones (One More Song and White Shoes) and the Richie Furay one (Anyway Bye Bye.)

Most of the songs on my list are interchangeable. I love the first eight pretty equally. White Shoes took a little while to grow on me but I love it now (Emmylou Harris's version is good too.)

Anyway Bye Bye is my least favorite for the same reason Soda pointed out. Its one of the only songs Randy sings that I don't love :ack: although I do like it. I think I actually like Poco's version (http://youtu.be/MQDr368BU1o) better.

A little information on the title track. Jackson Browne was performing it live (http://youtu.be/P-FZ3OkUkNc) as early as 1974. Jackson was actually the one who suggested the song to Randy.

Whitcap, thanks for starting this thread and thanks for all of the wonderful tidbits of trivia you provide. I didn't know that about Jackson :inlove:.

I had this album back in "the day". I can't remember if I bought it because one of the songs was being played on the radio or what, but I'm glad I did. I gave away my original album collection years ago (I know, I know...) but a couple of years ago I purchased three or four of these songs from Itunes. My favorite has always been Hearts On Fire, probably followed by Deep Inside My Heart, Come On Back to Me and Gotta Get Away. The others I didn't care enough for to re-purchase.

Soda, do you mind if I copy your words "Missed out on this earlier! " here as I am really sorry I missed the best time to say Congratulations!
Thanks for your list. Coincidently, the only 3 songs from this album I ever heard rank, from most favorite to least favorite, exactly as your Top 3 ~~~ Once again, it's amazing to find you love "this time in my life..." part of the song "Gotta Get Away" most! Oh, what a sweet sweet smile Randy smiles when he sings this !

Happy (Belated) Anniversary to ONE MORE SONG!

It peaked on the Billboard 200 album chart at #50 in 1980 and featured 2 top 40 singles: "Hearts on Fire" and "Deep Inside My Heart"-- not too shabby for Mr. Shy Guy!

My favorites are the two hits and "Gotta Get Away", although I enjoy all of them. At first, I didn't care much for "Anyway Bye Bye" and "White Shoes" (couldn't get the image out of my mind of Cousin Eddie's gift to Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation), but now I really appreciate them. I would so love to hear Randy's original version of "Anyway Bye Bye" performed live at The Troubadour when he was in Poco.

Love this album!

Happy 37th Anniversary To One More Song!!

Here’s a blurb in Billboard’s “New in the Charts” column featuring “Deep Inside My Heart” which is one of the album’s hit singles.

To most of the public, Meisner represents the classic case of being heard but not seen. He has worked in such groundbreaking country-rock outfits as Poco and Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band. As part of the high-flying Eagles, he provided lead vocals as well as songwriting skills which he proved by writing the chart-topping “Take It to the Limit.”
This new single, from his fresh Epic album “One More Song,” could make Meisner a solo quantity. Besides featuring an uptempo, finger-snapping mood the song boasts the talents of Kim Carnes, who assists on vocals.
The new album is an outgrowth of his first solo LP on Asylum which the artist described as a “revelation” into the ways of making a record. With those first time mistakes behind him, and after some time spent in self-examination in his hometown of Scottsbluff, Neb., Meisner began work on the new album.
It features producer Val Garay and writer Eric Kaz who co-wrote songs with Meisner. Helping out Meisner are the Silverados: Don Francisco, percussion; Bryan Garafalo, bass; Craig Hull, guitars, pedal steel; Craig Krampf, drums and Sterling Smith, keyboards.

Another great find, Delilah!

OT: Did anyone else scroll down a few pages on the Billboard link and see the top grossing tours for the week and the prices for tickets? I believe the most expensive ticket was $13.50, could you imagine those prices today...:headbang:

Nope, can't imagine it today, ETG, but my first Eagle concert in 1975 was $5.50. My last in 1980 was $12.50. The prices were cheap but had still more than doubled!

Better late than never so here goes -

Happy belated anniversary to One More Song!!

This is a really nice effort by Randy with some fun pop/adult contemporary tunes and an Eagles vibe. From wiki, here’s a brief review of the album:

Retrospectively reviewing for AllMusic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AllMusic), critic Mike DeGagne wrote of the album "One More Song highlights Meisner's knack for writing honest, heartfelt love songs with a countrified rock candor that reveals his rustic, down-home roots." and he added that, "One More Song ends up being a pleasurable set of modest songs from a musician who was glad to be home."

Just found out that this album ranked #78 on 1981’s top 100 albums list. Yay, Randy! Also, the Eagles’ Live album ranked #67 (“as published in the December 26th, 1981 issue of Billboard magazine”).
