Went out to dinner with a group of friends tonight, a pre-birthday celebration. One of them is the one who has caused (and is causing) the drama in my life. Several of them got me gifts, all Steeler related. One was a Black and Gold gift bag of all kinds of things, calendars, can huggies, etc. The other is a really nice picture made of smaller pictures of every Steeler ever. I have no idea how these people know I'm a Steeler fan! :lie:

Well, for the first time in my life, I attended a University of Tenn. home football game. I've grown up 2 hours away from Knoxville but never had the chance (I'm way more of a UNC fan!!). Unfortunately, they aren't having a good season (again)...but I had fun anyway :)

I was sitting a restaurant tonight, here in VA, and several people came up and commented quite positively about the Steeler Skin-It on my phone and the Penguins shirt I was wearing. Yes, I wear these things to church. I wear them everywhere!

Soda, I liked the 'quotes' around the word 'friend'.

you'd never know it by going to her house!:lie:

I haven't been here for awhile so haven't had time to catch up on everybody's thing, except for the last couple of pages.

TT - OW..broke your cap, that really sucks.
VA - hey, your secret is safe with us..LOL ;) Glad you had a trouble free evening!
Anyone else I missed, sowwy but I can't retain much these days, big things going on here.
I have a multinodular goitre and need a total thyroidectomy. Last week I spent two days in Sydney in consults with a physician and a surgeon. Last Fri I had a CT scan with contrast, first time ever. In a week's time I will need a non-operative vocal cord check (so nasopharyngeal laryngoscopy) at the specialist's rooms. Standard procedure with goitre patients since there is a potential risk to the larynx during surgery.
In the meantime, my frozen shoulder is back and with it a rotator cuff injury. My elbows have been giving me gyp with osteoarthritis, I needed anti-inflammatories a couple of days ago again. House inspection today but hoping I can get it put off again because I am not sleeping properly with the goitre compressing my airway and it wakes me up at night. So no sleep = no energy = grumpy as hell :P Then it takes me all day to catch up.
So all health related stuff here!
But also in a week's time I am going to a charity function at our Parliament House, is a benevolent fundraiser and it cost me big bucks but hey, I get to rub shoulders with all the hoi polloi of the Australian music industry who are able to be there!
Hope your worlds aren't as complicated as mine right now!

Good job on getting the 8 done, TT!! Baby steps...

For me, I think I mentioned I have this accreditation package to get done by 11/26. For three systems. One system I'm not familiar with and my boss said to delegate it to another and provide some 'guidance'. I did and didn't hear back from him so today I sent several emails. Nada. So I called him. Guess what? His computer locked up on him on Friday and he just got back into it today. What the heck has he been doing since then? He was at his son's school, picking him up, and couldn't talk on the phone. This guy is hourly, I'm trying to determine if I should mention to our boss about this. I don't like being one to tell tales, so I probably won't. Still, this is very frustrating, and means I'll get to put in a lot of extra hours in order to get the thing done in time. Over Thanksgiving.

Not much happening here. Gun deer season opens in the morning so my hubby and son are geared up for that. Also have a funeral for hubby's 93 year old aunt tomorrow that has been very frail for some time.

was this about the guy you mentioned earlier?...

Yes. After assuring me on Wednesday that he'd start working on the stuff that evening, he didn't take my phone calls and didn't respond to my emails. He didn't attend the meeting this morning. While I was on the phone, he called and left a message that made it apparent he hadn't even opened the emails, and he said he promised he'd work on the stuff over the weekend. He knows I'm out of town this weekend and he thinks he can slide until Tuesday.

Now that I have medical insurance, I will be going to the doctors, so then I will find out if there is anything wrong with me. I haven't been to the dr. or dentist in 2 years. Luckily I haven't had any major problems. Sometimes I feel like I really don't want to know if there's anything wrong!

Right now, I'm just trying to organized my house because since I started working I have no time & it's a bit out of control here.

I think I might have had a seizure while I slept Tuesday night. It's hard to say but I woke up with some scratches and a bitten tongue. Plus, my muscles are still sore and I've been feeling tired and depressed. Not good! Perhaps it was just a little one though and I shouldn't really count it.

sodascouts
11-17-2012, 03:55 PM
No way to know for sure without a witness and me being already in bed means there's not the evidence of a fall. At worst it was a small seizure because my tongue is only chewed a little and the scratches are confined to my right wrist and arm. Plus, I did not wake up bruised on the floor and i was able to go to work on Wednesday without anyone noticing anything except that I looked tired. I am trying to find some other explanation. At any rate, I count my blessings that it wasn't worse and it happened in a safe place.

Catching up in here. Soda, I'm glad you weren't hurt any worse, yet not really knowing what happened is a little scary. At least you woke up in bed, so that's a good sign. Is it possible that you just bit your tongue in your sleep without having a seizure? Hope it doesn't happen again. Take care of yourself & be sure you are eating well.

Missing my mil today. Four years ago today she passed away. Doesn't seem possible. Once of the nicest ladies I've ever known and mom/grandma/great grandma to many besides her own. If I make heaven, I know beyond doubt that I will see her there. A true woman of God.

Here I am, 160 miles from home and my external hard drive, and the hard drive on my computer is making noise. I know from experience that this means the darn thing is about to die. I have a huge deadline on 11/26. My 'back-up' computer is at home, too. Keeping my fingers crossed. Meantime, I'm backing up all my documents to my phone. Just in case. It could last another three months or it could die in ten minutes. Who knows?

First, sorry to hear about the possible seizure, Nancy. We were so excited because you had been seizure free for a year. Darn!!!

Happy anniversary, Cathy & Hubby!!!! Congrats on 12 years!

VA--good luck with you computer. Aren't they wonderful when they work but such a nightmare if there are problems? Ugh!

Who's getting nervous about cooking their first Thanksgiving Day meal for their whole family? That would be me! :hilarious: Not really, I've cooked huge meals before but I want it to be just like my Mom's Thanksgiving meals our whole family has been use to for a gazillion years. I will be channeling her Wednesday and Thursday as I do the cooking, that's for sure. Everything is here and ready (I think!). My brother and I went to the Amish market I always took Mom to before the holidays to get all the spices and some of the ingredients on Saturday and then went and decorated her & Dad's gravestone for Christmas. It was 5 years ago on Saturday that we lost Dad and we lost him on a Saturday, had the funeral on Wednesday and tried our best to have a bit of Thanksgiving on Thursday that year. Last year's Thanksgiving was only a couple months after Mom died so the whole family went to Amish Acres for their big Thanksgiving Dinner so this year is the return to tradition with me hosting it from here on in. Yikes!!!

Dillon made it home around 3 am this morning so whole family is under the same roof now. Larry's home for the whole week due to back problems again. Had a MRI on Saturday so will decide course of action by end of week. He's finally had enough of the chronic pain he's been dealing with pretty much for 20 years now. Problem is, he's one of those that can't relax and has to be doing something. Cleaned the living room furniture yesterday and moved it all around. Feeling it this morning, just like I told him he would be. :hilarious: Duh!!! Doctor told you not to work this week and take it easy! Geesh!

One last thing I should point out, in case you haven't heard (and I know you have if you are one of my unfortunate FB friends:hilarious:) ......

NOTRE DAME IS #1, BABY!!!!!! GO IRISH!!!!

PM, happy anniversary!

TBF, we've been making the same dinner for Thanksgiving since before I was born. My grandmother always supervised the cooking, and somehow that got passed to me and missed my aunt and mother completely. My brother will be there this year and he'll do most of the actual work (he doesn't know that yet...). I just say things like, "It's time to peel the yams. Make sure you do it under hot running water." God help me if anyone ever asks me why they must do this, I have no idea. Grandma always said it was the way it needed to be done. No one wants to risk the dinner not tasting like it has for over fifty years, so fortunately they don't ask questions.

I still need to go to the grocery store and get everything. Fortunately, I have a shopping list that is fifteen years old, so I don't need to give it a lot of thought. You would think that since I don't live here, someone else could do the shopping, but apparently not! Still, we use homemade noodles, and my aunt and a cousin made those over the weekend. My sister and I will bake pies tomorrow. Somehow, we'll get 20+ people fed.

VA - The thing to remember with hard drives is "If it's clicking, the clock is ticking!" - meaning it's days are numbered and you better back it up! That is a little saying us computer techs use. It's true.

Soda - Hope it wasn't a seizure. Take care.

PM - Congrats! :)

TBF - Glad Dillon made it home safely.

I was going to Florida last week, but changed it to this week. I leave in 2 days (Wednesday).

OK --You must find out about the yams thing. I want to know. My Mom always boiled them the day before till they were just getting done, then peeled and sliced and then cooked them with butter and brown sugar in a CAST IRON SKILLET. :hilarious: When I was buying them last weekend, I could here my Mom saying, "be sure they're all uniform in size so they cook evenly". :hilarious:

Homemade noodles here also--2 different batches, one with chicken broth and one with veggie broth for the vegetarians.

Turkey and dressing, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, yams, green bean casserole, rolls, fruit salad, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie. My brother and his family are responsible for the veggie trays, cheese & cracker trays, Mom's Apple Walnut Cake & apple pie. Oh my, overwhelming!

Brooke

Sounds similar to our Thanksgiving dinners, too!

I am cooking for a small crowd of about 10, but we will have so much food we will all be miserable. My Mom's place is too small for us, but she is doing the turkey, dressing, and gravy. I'm making homemade noodles for the first time, :fear: homemade crescent rolls, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Sister is bringing the sweet potatoes, salad, and green bean casserole. Same food every year! It's a must!

I'm missing my Dad today. He passed away 3 years ago today. I remember we found out he had a brain tumor the day after my mil passed away. Sometimes he was a pain, but now I mostly remember the funny/good times. He was a good man and worked hard all his life to provide for his family. The year my mil passed, he was in the hospital with most of his ribs broken from a fall and for Thanksgiving I went to the grocery store to buy our dinner. (First time ever for that!) Both sides of our family was upset with mil's death and the start of my Dad's ordeal. We didn't have any family get togethers. I was torn about where to be. 2008 and 2009 were not good Thanksgivings, but we are healing and now remembering the good times.

Brooke, the bittersweet times that the holidays bring... So many memories of those we weren't ready to let go of...

I'm lucky in that even though my mom and dad have been divorced for over thirty years, they get along. He married a very sweet woman who's only two years older than me and everyone loves Debbie. He doesn't get along with his family, so he, Debbie, and my half brother Ben spend Thanksgiving (and all holidays) with us with my mom and her family.

TBF, all I can remember Gram saying is something about them getting brown or hard or something. We have to peel them under hot running water and then put them in hot water immediately. Definitely they must be uniform in size, lots of lectures about this! Doing them a day ahead of time is a great idea. We partially cook them in water, then 'candy' them in an electric skillet with butter and brown sugar.

I have a cousin by marriage who's allergic to poultry and her family has never made stuff she can eat on Thanksgiving, so they always come to mom's. We have a ham, and we do two batches of stuffing, one turkey and one veggie or beef. I've offered several times to do two batches of noodles, but she never wants to put us out that much.

Turkey, stuffing (homemade), mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, cranberry salad, baked corn casserole, green bean casserole, candied yams, ham, pumpkin and apple pies. The variables are then whatever else people decide to bring along!

I think I just gained a pound reading about all these dinner plans...

My mom and I will have a small dinner on Thursday (turkey cutlets, deviled eggs, a few sides), then we go to the BIG dinner at my older aunt's house on Sunday (younger aunt is a nurse so we always celebrate at least 3 days later due to her work schedule LOL)...

I just really wish my dad could come up for the day...idiot me should go down to Georgia at some point...gotta wait for one or both of the aunts to get some free time (but then what happens with my mom while I'm out of town?!)...:worried:

My dad needs to get his hind-end back to Tennessee. That's just it. :hilarious:

Love reading about what everyone's cooking for Thanksgiving. :nahnah:

Homemade noodles? Does that mean you make each individual noodle by hand, :fear:
or do you mean you buy a packet of noodles & cook them up yourselves?

Love the idea of there being "classic" dishes making up a Thanksgiving meal... very cool.

EK, each individual noodle by hand! Ours involves a 'classic' recipe, very old, for egg noodles that while it calls for 2 cups of flour per egg, it's not a regular cup but an old coffee mug that's older than I am. It also baking powder in the amount of 'the back of a fork handle' of a particular fork. Several of us have these forks just for this recipe (I cheat and use a regular cup and estimate the 'extra'.)

Once you have the dough together, you roll it out with a rolling pin, so thin you can read a newspaper through it, let them dry, then cut them into strips.

Well, having not heard from the spn , looks lke its just Jahh and me.
No one in my family eats anthing but white meat soI oreded a roatisery breast predue from the food store, I pick it up tonight so tomorrow I just have to warm it up. I got ready made potatoes for JAHH and I bought too sweet potatoes to bake incase the kid comes. Got two kinds of stuffing mix,,.gluten free and regular. Bought my gluten free pumpkin pie (two serving size for me) its in the freezer and rolls for JAHH and just regular salad a dn veggies
growing up it always was a big holiday. It was usually my mom and step dads wedding annieversary(actually today is) anyway we would have a huge house full.....like 15 to 20 people..my ma wouldget up at the crack of dawn and my dad would have the legs pulled off the bird by 10am to eat. My mom never put the whole bird on the table.lol he had already ate parts from it.
When I got married,,,,we started going to JAHH's brother but in the last few years with his mom in a nursing home and my sister in law 's parents very sick..we have scattered for thanksgiving,
My gf does the parade every year so we watch for her float to go by...Now she is a captian and rides in the truck behind her group. Its fun to look for her and now her nephew who goes with her..kinda a tradition for us.

I am off work till tues ...hoping to get a lot done here.
I am not missing thanksgivings past...I am just laughing at the memories.

Wow!! I hope everyone can taste the love that goes into that! :)

I laughed when I read about the particular fork. My Mum had some serving spoons she would use to measure things, and I've never been able to find the same size! My MIL measures things using a teacup... but mine are bigger so have had to adapt.

GS, I'm sorry to hear this and will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with.

I'm taking the Christmas decorating slow this year. Hubby and I put up the outdoor lights Sunday afternoon and I got the tree out and set up. I bought a pre-lit tree two years ago and that is soooooo nice. Except this year 1 row of lights around the middle didn't work. Ugh! I had an extra set of lights that I ended up having to put in there. I put the decorations on it last night. Tonight we have a basketball game to go to, so more decorating will commence Wednesday evening. It's actually nice to take your time doing it. Usually I'm in a rush to get it all done in one day and am a crazy person!

GS you are certainly in my thoughts hope all goes well!

It has been quite the day.. I had two appointments today the first to adjust my custom orthotics.. the second an initial session with a new counsellor. So off I go this morning to the orthotics appt. and arrive only to be told they have no record of my appt. ( luckily I had it written in my book) and the orthotist isn't scheduled to be in til the afternoon. I told them I had this other appt. and so they called the orthotist and asked her to come in earlier. After about an hour wait I saw her and got my orthotics adjusted. Then I headed off to the next appt.. only when I got there I was told the counsellor was sick and my appt had been cancelled! EEK what a day!

But some good news!! Dad just called me from our GP's office and the blood clot in his arm seems to be gone! So as of tonight he is off the blood thinning meds and can stop the frequent blood tests!

Really looking forward to it. This time of year is so busy for me at work, and at home with schools wrapping up for the year in a couple of weeks. Plus all the family celebrations (within 8 weeks we have my Mother-in-Law's birthday, mine, my son's, Christmas, hubby's birthday and our wedding anniversary! By the end of January I am totally over cake!).

Totally over cake??!!??

Have a wonderful time!

More  for Lucas!!

The funeral was this afternoon and it was kinda brief but touching...just like Gail wanted. My dad held up very well (he has some spells of breaking down but not as many as we expected)...my step-cousin and his wife hung out at the house with us and followed us over to Steak & Shake (and paid for us all...very sweet!). The ride over was good b/c I got a chance to talk with my dad driving over (he eventually wants to move back up here if his health starts getting worse)...then my auntie got me a chocolate chip "muffin top" at Panera (YUM) and we got to gab on the way back to my dad's place...

FYI about this part of Georgia...
--there weren't any stars in the cloudy sky
--there was moonlight & moss in the trees
--but I didn't spot one bridge!! :hilarious:

Very busy weekend here. Went on a shopping trip to Columbia (about 100 miles from me) yesterday. My mom went too and we had a good, long day. Met the daughter after she got off work for dinner. Then grocery shopping right before we got home! Whew, was I exhausted!

TT, so sorry to hear that Lucas doesn't get to go home. He's still in my prayers and we prayed for him again in church on Saturday night.

For myself, I have reached a point where I must say goodbye to a material possession that I have a deep affinity for. My 2001 Ford F150 requires repairs that almost exceed the value of the truck. I love my truck and I don't want to get rid of it!! I hate to admit that I'm so attached to a 'thing', but this is going to be traumatic for me, especially as I don't have the $40K required to replace it.

Hey VA ..sorry about your truck.>How many miles are on her?
I undrstand. I had a 69 pontiac lemas the I loved. After we got married, I had a stroke and lost enough of my vision for a long time and couldnt drive.....JAHH refused to sell it saying that eventually, I would get to drive her again. I am really trying to get into the Christmas spirit but it's hard when so many people around here are still hurting. I hope to see my niece and nephews this weekend. They are 1, 6, 7, and 9. They should be excited about Christmas. They lost the first floor of their home, so they're living about 40 minutes away. When they went to see Santa, my niece asked him if he had a crystal ball so he knew where they were, because they are not living in their house. So many people won't be in their homes for Christmas.:-(

My hubby still pines for his 67 Chevelle SuperSport that he had to sell after we got married because I couldn't drive it! It had a big engine and '4 on the floor' and I just could not master the shifting. It was very touchy, not like cars today that shift easily.

Thanks guys. I usually take a crummy picture, so I'm glad I came out decent in this picture. An afterthought was, Why didn't I have him sign my ticket that I was holding in my hand? What an idiot, I didn't even think of it because I was just shocked that he was just hanging out there in the open. There was no security guy or anything. I mean it was pretty strange. It was just pure luck, that I saw him!

On another note, Roger Daltry had his shirt totally open at the show, & the guy still has KILLER ABS! No joke. They even put it on the big screen & he looked amazing. Not bad for 67? I think that's his age! OMG:thumbsup:

I am so pleased to hear about Lucas, TT. He has been in my thoughts.

I'm sorry that I have been MIA lately. My teaching placement is hectic and the past couple of weeks have been especially crazy... It's great but so much work! I've been working until late in the evening and have just been so tired that I haven't even looked at The Border, let alone been able to comment. I have been thinking of you all though, and missing you. Things should slow down a bit over the next week or two (thank goodness!) and then I will definitely have time over the Christmas holidays to catch up properly.

I'm afraid I don't have much good news at the moment. It seems like a whole host of sad things have been happening to my family lately. My Grandad had a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago and broke his wrist and the top of his femur. He had to have an emergency hip operation, which went well, but he is very down. He is now at home but I am worried about him and my Grandma. She is trying to look after him but she is elderly herself and is getting ever more confused and anxious. The family is helping out a lot, but I just hope my Grandma and Grandad don't go downhill from here... They have a lot to deal with. Prayers for my Grandad's recovery would be much appreciated.

My aunt, Adele, is 50 (I think I talked about her a little while ago) and she has battled with cancer for a long time. She has had a double masectomy but unfortunately she went into hospital recently and they discovered that the cancer has spread to her brain. There is nothing the doctors can do. She knows that she is dying and she went home today, on her wishes. She is about the same age as my mum and she has two daughters the same age as my sister and I. Her eldest daughter, Lauren, just had a baby a few weeks ago. It's so sad.

As if that wasn't enough, I learnt an hour or so ago that my uncle, Martyn, was found dead this afternoon by his mother. I know I talked about Martyn here a while ago when he was in hospital... He has suffered for years with ill health and depression, but he was only in his early 50s. He was such a lovely man - intelligent, gentle and engaging - and he was always so interested in what my sister and I were doing at school and what we were reading. We don't know yet how he died, but I think it's fair to say that we all assume he took his own life. He had tried before. My heart breaks for him and his mum, and I just hope he has found the peace he craved now. I will miss him a lot.

hey troub,

So sorry that you are going throug so much at this tiime.
I do believe and know the power of prayer.SO many prayed for Lucas I am sure thats why he finally got to go home and now be treated as an outpatient.

Sometimes, we pray for ohters we love and neglect ourselves so I will pray that god gives you the strenghth and courage to get through all that is upon you at this time.

You worry bout your grandparents..we are the sandwhich generations,
our grandparents are one slice of bread and we are the meat and cheesein the middle. with other family memebers being the other peice of bread..hence the sandwhich.

Wow with your aunt, thats tough. At least she knows whats up and made her choices. That is a great thing for people in her situation..to make theri choices. this way she can spend time with the baby and with her daughters......the best place to be. My aunt was diagnosd and gone in 14 days and she never made hospice., she never got to say good bye to anyone..there was no time. I am glad your aunt gets to do it her way and enjoy what time she has her way...the hard part is for those around her and it hits home cuase of your sisters and your mom. I will keep you all in my prayers. When my 42 year old cousin died from breast cancer,I was reminded that sometimes quailty was a better choice than quanity. Her sis, my cousin lived her life to her fullest and died on her terms. I miss her everydYa BUT really try and remember all the ways she influnced me and made my life better. and me a better person. She was my oldest cousin but she was the big sister I never had.On her grave stone, it says"my anxiety is cured". she was a physcioligist and helped many veterns at the VA in her line of work before she passed .

Oh I hope I have helped in some way. If you need to vent just send me a PM.. I have buried three parents , my beloved cousin and I am now helping hubby deal with his mom in a nursing home. If there is anything I can do just shout.
Love and prayers to you and yours sweetie:angel:

She asked JAHH and I to visit this weekend and help them take a family picture for xmas. He is so tiny he is still in newborn size clothes.

the other doctorbrought her baby in today for a visit.
Everyone took turns holding her and she was a hoot.

Troub, I'm so sorry to hear of all the issues. As I said on FB, many prayers being lifted for you and your family.

For myself, my Mom came down today to visit a few days. I've been trying to get some hours in at work and do some things outside and clean before she arrived. Now that she's here, more decorating and cookie baking!

I just spoke to my mum on the phone. Martyn's funeral will be next Friday (21st). I thought it would take longer because of the autopsy, but apparently not. They have done three tests, as far as we can gather, and so far the results are inconclusive in terms of the cause of death. To me, this suggests that perhaps he did not take his own life (I would imagine it would be fairly obvious if he had - even if he had overdosed), although I am just speculating and I could be completely wrong. He did have a lot of physical health problems, as well as depression, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it was 'natural'. Bless him. I still find it hard to believe that he is not with us anymore. His mum went back to the house last night and said she just wanted to be alone. I feel for her so much.

Trying to stay awake after staying up till 1:30 am to watch that awesome concert last night and then getting up about 4 this morning with hubby. Ugh!! Gonna be a long day.

Been baking like crazy. Finally started my shopping online yesterday. No sense rushing into these things. :hilarious: I plan to head out Saturday and pretty much start and finish. So if you all don't hear from me for a couple days, please notify the authorities. :fear:

We all feel for you too Lou! And your family. It is a very difficult time for you all.

Sorry I havent been around 'Life' in the form of the usual 'end of term madness', a Christmas trip to the Titanic Museum and Santa Claus with the kiddies, a Hurling marathon on Sunday and a sick child on Tuesday and Wednesday has kept my hands well and truely full

But even if I haven't had the chance to post, I HAVE managed to check in, and one of the best bits of news I've heard is that Lucas is HOME! I'm delighted for him and his parents, and of course for you TT!:partytime::partytime::partytime: You have been a rock to him and to his parents.

Willie! I'm in your club. Most of my shopping has been online this year too, but I still have to brave those inevitable crowds at the weekend.

Troub,

TBF, good luck! For some reason, it seems I'm never home and can't get anything extra done either! Can't get the house cleaned, presents wrapped, shopping done! After working all day yesterday, hair 'done' afterwards, concert on tv when I got home.....I had good intentions, but enjoyed watching tv more!

Friday night, shopping with hubby. Saturday night, college graduation party for my niece 60 miles away! Grocery shopping has to fit in there somewhere! Church on Sunday. Kids for dinner after. Too much going on, it seems!

I have lots of plans for what I want to achieve over the weekend (dog's Christmas party, grocery shopping, Christmas baking - mince pies yum yum - sort through my daughter's clothes to see what still fits, visit to the animal shelter, start wrapping presents...). Will be interesting to see how much I actually get done. :hilarious:

well we are susposta go visit Lucas at his home.
His Momma wants JAHH to take his christmas picture since he cant go out to have it done.
He is on a feed tube 24 7 but she will time for when it has to be changed. We will take pictures of them together and ones of the little guy byhimself. APparently he is learning how to smile.
I got a text of a picture of him
smiling at me his godmomma .

I have been cleaning and was gonna do the tree but my son called yesterday to say he will be home late frinday nite . He is driving with another from chicago and they will leave early on fri am.

He said to wiat and he would help me with the tree. We decided to go through all the christmas decorations together and keep whats important to each of us and pass on the rest.I didnt wanna do it by myself since I am not sure what things he is attached to other than the three felt mice he bought in a dollar store when he was 4 years old and one time siad to me
"Mom it wouldnt be xmas without those mice." So again not knowing whats important to him we are gonna do it together.
I havent seen him since the third week of august and then he hit the bear and then the next day was his bday the first one we have been apart.
I cant stop crying. TOday I couldnt stop humming. My friend at work said she was happy that she feels I am happy.

so, thats where I am.....it was easier to do it all when I didnt work and I was home raising a baby. M iss those days.lol
The one dr handed me her fussy baby the other day and I had her asleep in 5 minutes ..then everyone else wanted to hold her so they started passing her like a football.lol oh well

TT, that is so sweet about your son & the ornaments :)

I realize I haven't even gotten my "homecoming stocking" out...it's the one I came home from the hospital in (for all babies going home in December). The next Christmas my parents put a brand new teddy bear in it. Nowadays I will put Bear in the stocking and set him somewhere in the house (on a bed, near the tree, etc.)...

Oh what a lovely idea!! How wonderful that you still have it.

My parents brought me home from hospital on Christmas Eve (I was adopted so they couldn't take me until 3 weeks old to allow for paperwork etc). Then they had to rush out and get a present from Santa... a pink plastic heart-shaped basket for my dressing table. I still have it somewhere I think... but I LOVE the idea of a Christmas stocking for the babies!!!

I have so many plans for the weekend too which are broadly similar to everybody else's and revolve around Christmas Celebration and preparation.

Cute story about the ornaments TT! My parents have a pair of plastic lanterns that they bought in the 60s when they were setting up home first. Christmas wouldn't be the same without them! Laura loves putting a sugar house on their tree.

The whole discussion about the Christmas stockings made me realize my stocking is 50 years old this year. :) My Mom always had stockings for everyone (my brother and I have the same ones from our first Christmas), adding one for my husband and his wife and all 3 grandkids. Last year, as we were going through the house after she passed away, Mike and I had to decide who was taking over what holidays since they've always been spent in that house. I took Thanksgiving and Mike took Christmas and therefore, possession of everyone's stockings. A great responsibility. :hilarious:

ooh and austin so sweet to help Nancy.
Nancy so so sorry about your compurter issuse. yuck..I just hand it off to JAHH when I get stuck.
I think we need a thread about christmas traditons we do .lol
when my neices and nephews were born I always hand crocheted stockings for them all. My mom in law always made things hand crocheted. I still have them all in a rubbermade container so nothing happens to them.( she made coandels tress dressed dolls etc etc..) Now she is in a nursing home and cant do it anymore so I am glad I have it to pass on to my grandkids someday.
I think it is great to have these traditions but what happens is as we marry and make new families things get lost in the translation JMO.
I never celebrated this holiday till I married JAHH and we did things his his families way but i tried to do things with my son like picking a new ornament every year and as we put them on the tree remembering who gave them to us. Thats why we are gonna go through togehter.

Now if people would stop giving me Elvis ornaments .......the only one I am attached to is the vegas elvis cause my dog would take it off the tree and then put the leg in her mouth and suck on it.
anyway ...gotta spend time with my son hes done settleling in
