Wow - what a question, CD7! I'm afraid I can't answer it, though. I love so many Eagles songs that I'd be hard pressed to pick my top 20 favorites, much less one song. :D
And other than a few solo shows this summer for Don, Glenn, and Joe, there is no other "news" to report as of this moment. However, with these guys, things can change very quickly or not at all. We're all keeping our eyes and ears open for some official announcements by the band regarding the release of the new album and new tour dates. It's anybody's guess at this point as to when we will get any announcements.

Ouch....I don't know if I could pick a fav. either. There's so many! I will say though, the one I'm currently listening to most often is "The Long Run." :

This is my current top 10:
Hotel California
New Kid In Town
Lyin' Eyes
Heartache Tonight
Take It Easy
Get Over It
No More Cloudy Days
Good Day In Hell
Tequila Sunrise
Life In The Fast Lane
I did that totally off the top of my head. Yes, it's Glenn-heavy. I can't help that. 8)

That's ok FP.........we all have our favorites! Mine would be Don heavy (that sounds funny! )...not really intentionally....just the way my favorite songs fall. In fact, my top 10 would probably be:
1. One of These Nights
2. The Long Run
3. Life in the Fast Lane
4. Heartache Tonight
5. I Can't Tell You Why
6. Take it to the Limit
7. Desperado
8. Peaceful Easy Feeling
9. Hotel California
10. Get Over It

I couldn't pick a top 10. I have a top 1 instead. Take It To The Limit is my best song ever. All the other songs come behind that one in no particular order (apart from the few that I'm not keen on). :D

Mmmmm... now I wonder why that could be... A certain Mr Meisner doing lead vocal, perhaps?
FP, don't worry about your list being "Glenn-heavy" (sorry, I thought that was funny!), I don't blame you! If I had a top ten right now (and I don't :( ), it would be Glenn-heavy too, for sure. I'm going to have to take the weekend to think about this. Will get back to you all on Monday! :D
And Maleah, nothing wrong with your list being "Don-heavy" either!

5. Tequila Sunrise
6. Get Over It
7. Witchy Woman

My favorite is Take It to the Limit as well. It's so dramatic - I love the arrangement and the way it builds. Every time I hear it I just want to shout with it - "Put me on a highway!! Show me a sign!!! TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT ONE MORE TIME!!!" lol
Top 10 is always harder... sometimes things change... I'll give it some thought!

I was thinking about this thread when I was commenting on the results of the Hotel California Survivor game. I noticed that CD7 named this thread "Best Ever Eagles Song", but then asked us to comment on our favorite Eagles songs. For me, this is asking two different things. I commented earlier that I really can't pick a favorite or even 10 favorite songs. I just love too many of them. However, I can pick what I think are their 10 best songs. I'm basing this on the song's longevity, impact, lyrics, and music. I think it goes without saying that Hotel California is considered the band's best song, so I put that at the top of the list. After that, I'm listing the songs in order of their release rather than try to rate them. So here goes ....
1. Hotel California
2. Take It Easy
3. Desperado
4. The Best of My Love
5. Lyin' Eyes
6. Take It to the Limit
7. New Kid in Town
8. Life in the Fast Lane
9. I Can't Tell You Why
10. Heartache Tonight
Honorable mentions go to Peaceful Easy Feeling, Tequila Sunrise, One of These Nights, and The Long Run because they still get lots of air play where I come from. Now, let the debate begin.

I can't separate 'best' from 'favourite'. This is all subjective and I am not a critic. I suppose 'best' might include the following:
Hotel California
Desperado
One Of These Nights
Get Over It
New Kid In Town
Witchy Woman
I Can't Tell You Why
Life In The Fast Lane
Lyin' Eyes
Take It Easy
I haven't rated these either. I include GOI because the lyric is so invigorating. It states things that many artists at the time were afraid to say, AND it has three guitar solos.

My first time here, wanted to thank you for the new site, really enjoying the pics, avatars and banners-not to mention another site for all things Timothy! Since everyone is weighing in on their top 10 picks, thought I'd add mine:
I Can't Tell You Why
Take It To The Limit
After The Thrill Is Gone
Try And Love Again
Desperado
Life In The Fastlane
Heartache Tonight
Best Of My Love
Ol' 55
Do Something
Ok, I have more than 10 top picks, including Victim of Love, Sad Cafe, Love Will Keep Us Alive and Hotel California, of course. Way too hard to winnow my faves down to 10 LOL
BTW, on the topic of Hotel California, my 21 yr old thinks anyone who became a fan because of Hotel California isn't a TRUE fan, they are a "Johnny come lately". LOL Now I didn't add that to provoke anyone, just thought he had an interesting point of view for someone who wasn't even born when the Eagles began!

It seems he's met people that think HC is the ONLY Eagles song and have no appreciation for their work. He has a not-so-nice name for them(no, I won't mention it here). LOL He thinks if you only became interested in the Eagles because of HC, you aren't true fans. Kind of funny thinking, I know, cause it doesn't matter how someone was introduced to the Eagles. Their music crosses so many lines and generations, I can't imagine anyone not appreciating them........even those who think HC is the only Eagles song!

In no particular order (rather my favorites, you can always argue about 'best'):
One Of These Nights love the funky guitars, especially the bass
Ol 55 Im in love with that song since the Millennium concert, what a treat that was to hear it live
Hotel California for the guitar solo 8)
Lyin' Eyes love the way Glenn 'tells' this story
Heartache Tonight one of my favorite 'drive time' songs
Take It Easy my 'good mood' song
No More Cloudy Days this one is just
sweet
Tequila Sunrise another story in a song that I love, especially along with Glenns wonderful voice
Peaceful Easy Feeling gives me a lighthearted feeling :D
Take It To The Limit sung by Glenn, gives me shivers
Glenn-centric of course :D But nobody will blame me for this, OK?
FP: I love 'Get Over It' too and I wish they still performed it live. Its rather a draw between 'Hotel California' and 'Get Over It'.

Oh, absolutely not, SG. I haven't even managed to create a Top Ten yet, but I'm sure that it will be Glenn-heavy.
I hear you, Brooke. There are just too many great songs to pick a Top Ten. But I will concede at this point, that my hot favourite right now is "Heartache Tonight" (lead vocal by Glenn  - surprise, surprise... )

It's a difficult task picking a favourite track, and my choice probably varies from day to day as well. Here's a top ten, roughly chronologically:
Take It Easy

Tequila Sunrise (might be my number one of all time)
Best Of My Love
Lyin' Eyes
Take It To The Limit (both versions)
Hotel California
New Kid In Town
I Can't Tell You Why
Heartache Tonight (heard at work today, yeah!)
Drat, that's ten already...

Here are my Top Ten (+ 1) songs with my inexpert opinions thrown in...
In no particular order:
Desperado (Classic, could be contender for my all-time fave, one of those songs that always seems to end to soon)
Seven Bridges Road (Blew me away the first time I heard it, another one that I wished was longer, I even sound good when I sing along!)
Take It Easy (I defy anyone to not sing along with this one, especially while driving down a deserted two-lane highway in Wyoming!)
New Kid in Town (Another great sing-a-long, transports me back to the halcyon days of 4th grade)
Wasted Time (In my opinion, one of their most underrated songs, has one of my favorite lines of all time: "You didn't love the boy too much, no, no, you just loved the boy to well"
Peaceful Easy Feeling (Such a pleasing, soothing song with one of the most romantic propositions ever: "I want to sleep with you in the desert tonight, with a billion stars all around." Sigh......)
Learn to Be Still (Another beautiful soothing song that wonderfully showcases Don's sexy voice.)
Midnight Flyer (How much fun is this one to sing? I love helping the boys out with the train whistle - wooooooh wooo hooo!)
Life in the Fast Lane (Simply put: this song rocks!)
The Last Resort (Some of their best lyrics IMHO, just a beautiful, haunting song, 30 years later and the lyrics are still so relevant)
Hotel California (Yeah, this is my 11th song in my top ten, but shouldn't it be a freebie?)
I have to say, with all due respect to the OP, my least favorite song is Witchy Woman. I don't hate it - and I do sing along when I hear it - but it's always been the one song that I could easily say was definitely not a favorite.

I think my favs are Seven Bridges Road, Hotel California, Take It Easy, On The Border, The Sad Cafe, Love Will Keep Us Alive, Those Shoes. That's my pick today anyway.
I'm not counting any from the latest album as those are still gurgling around in my head and different ones are vying for the top spot.

3. In The City (I was born here in the city with my back against the wall)
4. Life in The Fast Lane (i love driving to this song)
5. Lyin' Eyes (i love the line "they fall together")

7. Get Over It (this is my song for the world today i quote it a lot in history class)
8. Witchy Woman (my theme song according to my mom but i think she wants to change a certian word in the title to a very bad word lol)
9. Peaceful Easy Feeling (i always have a peaceful personality and i get a peaceful easy feeling and we were play a game on the last day of jr history and we had and Eagles Catagory and this was the bonus)
10.Wasted Time (i just love this song i don't really know why)

There's a lot of Don in my choice, haha
01. Desperado - everytime when I hear this song and when Don start with singin' I start crying, Desperado is very special for me. At the Eagles concert in April I also start crying (in the front of Don.) and he looked at me and his eyes said "Take Care". I love Don his voice.
02. Wasted Time - Again Don, and Oh My Gosh I love this song. The text is so familair with me.
03. Heart Of The Matter - actually it's a Don song, but the Eagles version is so beautiful.
04. Hotel California - The biggest Eagles classic song ever, fabulous sound!
05. Take It Easy - I can't without Don, but I also can't with Glenn, the perfect song he sing!
06. How Long - Country forever! Great voice of Glenn and Don and an amazing drive song, haha.
07. Best Of My Love - Love Don's vocals in it.
08. The Last Resort - Gosh I Love Don in this song :inlove: and the lyric is so..uh, I can see myself in the lyric you know.
09. Learn To Be Still - Love Don his voice, sexy and calm and wow.
10. Funk #49 - Yeah Joe is in da house! Love the song, Joe is being crazy and the music just funky!

While obviously there are some songs that I would prefer to others, and that my hand would instinctively press 'repeat' on when in the car I don't actually think there is an Eagles song that I DON'T like. So maybe I too will have to lengthen my list. I would say I like 100% of their work! Each song, even the lesser known and played ones has its own unique appeal, whether music, lyrics, vocals harmony or just overall presentation.
On a point of order.......... I assume the lack of 'words' does not preclude IDTWNW?

I'm not that fan of Bernie/Randy and Don Felder (don't asked me why) Although I love Don Felder's guitar works!

There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't included ITTWNW in a list of your favourite Eagles songs, but I wouldn't myself.
I will try and do a revised Top 20 with no thought:
1. Hotel California
2. New Kid In Town
3. Heartache Tonight
4. Lyin' Eyes
5. Take It Easy
6. Life In The Fast Lane
7. Long Road Out Of Eden
8. Good Day In Hell
9. Get Over It
10. No More Cloudy Days
11. Already Gone
12. Tequlia Sunrise
13. What Do I Do With My Heart
14. Somebody
15. Witchy Woman
16. The Last Resort
17. Waiting In The Weeds
18. Outlaw Man
19. Learn To Be Still
20. Doolin-Dalton
I really made that up. There were some other tracks from LROOE I didn't want to leave out.

For some reason (Other than the composer  tho' thats important too!) I just love IDTWNW. Its just so relaxing and soothing. I would be tempted to see some Irish influence in it as well. And I've learned it on the guitar. In fact its the ONLY piece of music that I've learned to play using TAB rather than chords. So it is a bit special to me on a number of accounts.
Thats a great selection FP. You've a bit of everything in it! I wonder what you'll come up with after putting some thought into one! :D

Welcome to The Border, Scarlet Sun! :yay: :D I hope you enjoy your time here with us.
I haven't got round to this thread yet, but I will! I admit that I haven't listened to the Eagles' debut album much , but I should go back to it and listen a little more. I'm embarrassed to admit that I can hardly remember the tune to "Most Of Us Are Sad", but what I do remember is that Glenn's  vocal is hardly recognisable as his, at least to my ears. I kept asking myself: is that Glenn  ? He just sounds so different. Does anyone else think so?
JoeFan

Ha! No wonder! Thanks, JF, for clearing that up for me.
I was reading liner notes in a DVD I have about the song, and it stated that it was Glenn  on lead vocal. I thought of all the others' voices, and I thought it sounded like Randy, but the voice sounded different even for him. Thus my confusion!
It's unusual for one of the other Eagles to be taking lead vocal on a Glenn  -penned song.
My favourite Eagles song is definitely "Heartache Tonight", but I'll have to give a top 10 a lot of thought, as there are just so many that I love.

Welcome from me as well, Scarlet Sun. I like your user name too. Glad you found us and hope you enjoy yourself here on The Border.
And MF - I agree it is somewhat unusual that Randy sang lead on a song that Glenn wrote. However, I guess Randy needed another vocal lead on the album and Most of Us Are Sad was the only song they had ready at the time. After all, it was the early days and they recorded the entire album in about three weeks. I like the song a lot, and always wondered what it would sound like with Glenn. As far as I know, Glenn has never performed the song publically since the Eagles recorded it.

You can hear the song here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKLS6oBWsYY
If you listen carefully, you can hear Glenn's and Don's harmony on the third verse... "Love was here today..."
I think it's lovely but no, it's never been performed live to my knowledge.
Edited to add: I just saw a comment on YouTube where the guy says he DID hear it live as an encore!
BTW, regarding Randy needing an extra vocal, it's interesting that he got three on the album but Don only got two. I know it's been said that Don and Glenn were teamed up from the beginning, but I think that didn't happen until Desperado. I think at first, Glenn and Randy were the pair, as were Don and Bernie. Randy sang on Glenn's song, and Don and Bernie co-wrote Witchy Woman (and both had two vocals instead of three). This is borne out by Glyn Johns saying that Randy and Glenn were always sneaking off together to do pot, lol. (I do realize that Randy co-wrote a song with Bernie, too, but I'm just following an overall pattern).

I thought Glenn also had a hand in writing WW, but refused credit because he didn't like the way the song turned out.(source - "In The Studio" radio show)
I think Randy may have been considered perhaps the best singer in the Eagles when the band started out. Also according to that In The Studio show, Nightingale wasn't originally supposed to be on the debut album, but David Geffen insisted that Henley had to have more than one lead vocal(he supposedly referred to Don as "Golden Throat"). Perhaps Nightingale pushed Get You In The Mood off the album.

Yeh I hear, thanks Soda! :D

If Nightingale pushed Get You In The Mood off, that is interesting. I am biased, but I think Get You In The Mood is a much better song, no matter how 'politically incorrect' it is.
I find it very hard to believe that Glenn would have turned down a songwriting credit, and as for not liking how it turned out, to me Witchy Woman is still one of the most awesome sounds they produced.
Re Most Of Us Are Sad, it is one of only 3 Eagles songs I've heard 8 times on my iPod, which is the record at the moment (the other two are the live version of Lazy Days and Desperado). I have never been able to think of Glenn singing it. It doesn't sound like his song at all, although he wrote it, except perhaps for the 'I will sing you far away' line which I DO like to imagine.

It's a VERY hard choice but at the same time it's a no brainer for me.
Hotel California
If you read the "how did you become an Eagles fan" thread (called something like that) you will find out why this song and even album is so special to me and a bit of my life story and how it changed me life and how it influenced me.
I hear people talking about getting tired of hearing it or burning out, but I NEVER burn out on HC. It's my favorite song of all time. Not to forget my favorite album of all time, my favorite guitar solo of all time, and my favorite band of all time! ;)
In my opinion, that song is the greatest of all songs. From the lyrics to the guitars, it's a masterpiece song AND album. My favorite song and album by my favorite band! :) Obviously, the HC album is my favorite Eagles album! :hilarious:

That is a great song, but then there are so many great Eagles songs, which is why I would never be able to pick just one.
And BTW - Welcome Gus. Glad you found us here on The Border. Have fun!

HOTEL CALIFORNIA!
Some of you know why it's so personally special to me as I've talked about it in a couple other threads and how it ties into my life.

:stunned: Shocking!! Isn't it great to have a connection like that, tho? :spin:
During my overly dramatic teens years, Desperado and Wasted Time were my favorites. Tequila Sunrise reminds me of an old relationship, Doolin' Dalton of old friends from Colorado. So many ties to my past from different songs. Now after many years of listening I think it's Life In The Fast Lane, with that wonderful lick starting it off, the funk and jam of it, Don and Glenn's trademark sarcastic lyrics, it's one I have to always crank when it comes on. I'm Already Gone.....

Great site. Just found it the other day. So many good songs. Tough to pick one. If I could only pick one it would be Take It Easy. First song I remember hearing as a kid. I think I was 4 or 5.

Best of My Live. I couldn't believe my luck when Don said in Houston that they had tried out an old song in Austin and it turned out so great that they were going to do it that night. I didn't think I would ever get to hear it in person.
I don't have a clue why everything is underlined?????:brickwall:

Welcome to the board, yekrut. It looks like you have very good taste.
And AZ - I think you must've had the 'underline' feature enabled on your post. If you want to get rid of it or just experiment with it, then click the 'Edit' button on your post. When the text box opens, highlight all of your underlined text, and click the U button in the upper left corner of of the text box. That should disable the feature and remove the underlines. And just an FYI - the B (bold) and I (italics) buttons work the same way.

My new favourite is "Waiting In The Weeds". I love it more every time I hear it... (I've only had the LROOE album since Jan).
Closely followed by Long Road Out of Eden... and about a dozen others!!

Well, I've said it before and will say it again. Take It Easy will always be my favorite Eagles song. It just is. It always has been and always will be. Since 1972. I love it every time I hear it. It makes me happy!
Now the next favorites can change time and time again, but WITW and LROOE will be right up there with the classics. WITW almost takes my breath away.
