The Stevie Nicks concerts I saw in Las Vegas were wonderful! Stevie was really in high spirits. Her voice was strong and she looked to have lost weight, even doing high kicks and dancing a bit! Her shows are very dramatic and it was worth every penny to see her. It reminded me why I love Stevie so much! Since it was Vegas, there were some big set-ups. For Landslide, clips of her life through the years were flashed behind her as she sang. It added an extra poignancy an already moving song. She got dressed up for Beauty and the Beast (as she did for the Don tour) and clips from the movie showed behind her in her old-fashioned gown and gorgeous pinned-up hair (the rest of the time it was down). She wore her famous high-heeled boots that had been put away for a long time (I hope she continues to do that on the coming tour) and a shorter skirt. She looked healthy and happy. She also took some chances vocally, improvising occasionally. She delivered a great performance!

Stevie Nicks rocks!!! :)

Btw, Stevie was on CBS's Sunday Morning show this morning!

I always have this show on while getting ready for church and this morning, there she was! She looked great. I was in the middle of preparing a dinner dish so I taped it, but haven't had time to watch it yet.

You might be able to find it on their internet site.

Thanks for the tip, Brooke. And Soda, I'm glad you enjoyed the show so much. They have added tour dates thru mid-June on Stevie's website. I think I just may have to try to get to one of these shows.

They sure were! According to Stevie, though, she didn't want to take her blouse off when the photographer asked. She says Lindsey took her aside and told her "Don't be a child! This is ART!" So she agreed... and then she had to go home and explain it to her appalled parents. lol

For the curious (this is what my LP looks like):

I later had it signed by none other than Lindsey Buckingham - his niece liked my Buckingham Nicks site (http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/) and offered to get it done for me. Now if only I could get Stevie's signature, I could frame that sucker!

As much as we all like Stevie, I thought she should have her own thread! If there is one, I couldn't find it!

Anyway, I just heard on the radio that she will be on Off the Record with Joe Benson this Sunday! And it's supposed to be a new interview! :D

Check here for your local times: http://unclejoe.com/xotr.html
Scroll down for May 20th.

Thanks for the link, Brooke! It may be possible to listen to it live if it's streamed, but it will probably be quite late for me!

I think it's a great idea to have a Stevie thread, especially as she has such close connections with some of the band members. This is a brief piece that happened to be on the back of one of my Eagles clips from Circus magazine, 1981. I've been meaning to send it to Nancy for ages.

Stevie and Chris Isaak at Concord, CA

I timed my California vacation to coincide with two events: Stevie's opening night show in Concord (May 17) and Lindsey's hometown San Francisco show (June 2). Last night, accompanied by Perfect Little Sister, I saw the Stevie show - and it was terrific!

Stevie is sharing the bill with Chris Isaak this time. I wondered if it would be like the "Two Voices" tour with Don Henley, where they would sing on each other's songs a few times and do the encore together. It wouldn't be unheard of - when Chris Isaak did one of Stevie's AHI benefit, she sang harmony on a few songs of his. Therefore, I was surprised when there sets were totally separate, and he did not come back out for the encore or even the final bow. It was almost as if he were an opening act!

Chris' Set

At any rate, he put on a good show. He a handsome, charismatic, funny guy with a great voice (hmm, reminds me of someone...). He cracked up the crowd with his jokes (for example: "If you're in a happy, committed relationship, stand up! - OK, thanks, now I know who I shouldn't waste my time hitting on after the show" another: "I've been playing with this band for 30 years. Um... we started when we were in elementary school! OK, I admit it, exfoliation has gotten me where I am today"). At one point, he took his guitar and ran through the audience all the way up to the lawn! You can imagine the thrill that gave the folks in the cheap seats. He sang with spirit, despite the largely unresponsive crowd - it wasn't his fault, the vast majority were there for Stevie. We not only heard his own songs like "Wicked Game," "Let Me Down Easy," and "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" but also very well done covers of songs like "I Want You to Want Me" and "Only the Lonely."

PLS and I got there early enough that we were approached to be two of the girls who dance behind Chris on the song "Blue Heaven" (apparently, every show, random girls from the audience are picked to go up there and dance behind him). Sadly, we thought the guy said "Blue Moon" and we went down at the wrong time, therefore missing our cue. I have kept the backstage pass I got, though, and plan to use it to get onstage for that song when I see the show in Chicago. I'm pretty sure it will work, unless they change the color of the badges or something.

Chris also wore several wild suits, reminding me of Joe. He wore one that was pink with flowers all over - still managing to look really masculine. He even wore one that was mirrored like a disco ball! All the girls hooted when he started to get hot and took off his jacket to expose his black T-shirt - including me, lol. His guitars are also funny - he has one with "CHRIS ISAAK" painted on it and he taped a paper to the back of the guitar that said "THANK YOU" so that when he turned it over as he left the stage, he could hold it up and "thank" the audience.

I think the reason so much of the audience was dead was that he and Stevie don't really share a fanbase as much as she does with Henley. Chris is more country-fied. I enjoyed him, though, and was disappointed he and Stevie didn't interact.

[b]Stevie's set

What a change came over the crowd when Stevie came onstage, starting with the high-energy "Stand Back"! The majority of the crowd stayed on their feet for almost every song, with the exception of a couple slow numbers.

She looked beautiful. She had lost weight since the last time I'd seen her. Her shawls and outfits were gorgeous, and she was wearing her famous high-heeled boots. She was energetic and her voice was dead-on, despite the fact that she's usually nervous on opening night. She not only did a high kick during "Stand Back," she did one later in the set. She danced really sexily to "Rhiannon," "Gold Dust Woman," and "How Still My Love." She added little ad-libs to that song like "Should I say - how still my love." I love it when she does that!

During "Landslide," she had projected behind her images from her life, ending with a photo of her with her father taken just before he died in 2005. It was very moving - I got choked up, especially remembering AHI when she had spoken of how she knew he'd get better just days before he died.

On a lighter note, when she did "Rock'n'Roll," she was wearing a top hat with a feather and looked so cute! Of course she did her famous walk where she touched the hands of audience members during "Edge of Seventeen" wearing a white dress I hadn't seen before. For her encore, Beauty and the Beast, she had changed into an elegant gown, put her hair up, and looked like a queen (she first started doing this in 2005 - I remember at the end of the AHI show that I already mentioned, Don went up behind her, took down her hair, and spread it out over the collar for her).

PLS and I danced the whole night, yelling and screaming and having a great time. Stevie rocked the house and it was a terrific concert. I highly recommend you catch a show if she coming near you.

I also bought a keychain, which now proudly resides in between my Lindsey Buckingham and Eagles keychains on my big keyring. Too bad the individual Eagles don't sell them! I'd love to pick up a Glenn one at Niagara falls! They looked very cheap to make, lol, two pieces of plastic with a photo stuck in between them. The profit margin must be pretty big. Our guys could certainly take advantage of that! Although my Fleetwood Mac one broke within a year... oh well. Better than nothing. They could also do an industrial metal one like the Eagles were selling, although that makes the keyring a bit heavy.

Like I said, a show well worth going to, even if it was inferior to the "Two Voices" tour.

I'm back from my short concert trip to Atlanta.
The four of us--me, hubby, my sister and her fiance-- saw Tony Bennett Saturday night, and he was great! He wore a yellow sports coat, white shirt, navy blue tie and navy slacks, looking very dapper for a man of 80. His voice was still wonderful and it was great hearing him sing all those standards from the Great American Songbook, especially his signature song, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco." It was also heartwarming to see people of all ages enjoying his songs.

Last night my sister and I went back to see Chris Isaak and Stevie Nicks. Their shows were both great too, very similar to what Soda posted. Chris was very handsome, a very charismatic, funny guy with a great voice. He told this same joke: "If you're in a happy, committed relationship, stand up! - OK, thanks, now I know who I shouldn't waste my time hitting on after the show." And apparently exfoliation is big with him because he talked about it at my show too, telling one of the dancers they picked to dance behind him during "Blue Heaven" that it was important to exfoliate. ( ? ) Unfortunately we didn't arrive early enough to be asked to dance like Soda (darn it!). He also ran through the audience at my show too, but not all the way up to the lawn--which was too bad because our seats were lousy and we were almost to the lawn! My favorites were also "Wicked Game," and "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" but also very well done covers of songs like "I Want You to Want Me" and "Only the Lonely."

His suits were wild, and they reminded me of a "Rhinestone Cowboy." He opened in one that was aqua blue with black diamonds all over, and he wore the one that was mirrored like a disco ball for us too. I purchased his CD and stood in line to get his autograph afterwards, but his handler wouldn't let him stop to talk very much and refused to let him pose for a picture with me  . I did hand my camera to the woman behind me who took a picture of the two of us while he was signing my CD. It turned out to be a shot of me in the corner and the top of his head, bent over the table as he signed--and boy, does that man have a thick head of hair!

Then Stevie came out, and I agree with Soda, she looked beautiful, and she did appear to have lost weight. "Gold Dust Woman" is a particular favorite of mine, but I must admit that I enjoyed it more two summers ago when Don sang it with her! My sister & I almost cried when she sang "Landslide," and they showed the photos of Stevie with her father taken just before he died in 2005. Our father, also named Jess like Stevie's father, died in 2004 and it really brought back poignant memories.

Stevie really did look cute wearing that top hat with a feather at the end of the show. My sister had never seen her before and said she really enjoyed it. I agree with Soda, the show was well worth going to (even if it was inferior to the "Two Voices" tour--okay, I know I'm a little biased! 8) )

Glad you liked the shows, DF! I didn't realize Chris signed autographs after the show. I might try to get one from him when I go see Stevie in Chicago on Friday with my friend from out-of-town - but all I have is his Christmas CD with Stevie on it. Think it would make me look lame to have him sign that? lol

I can imagine that Landslide would really hit home, especially with your dad sharing the same name. What a beautiful, moving song.

Yes, he announced as he was saying goodbye--and flashing that guitar with Thanks For Coming written on the back-- that he would be signing autographs. They were VERY picky about it--he would only sign his merchandise--which was okay since I wanted to buy his CD anyway--but they turned me down on signing my ticket and taking the picture, and barely let me speak with him at all.

<sigh> Don's M&G's have just spoiled me--in more ways than one! Of course, Chris's ticket only cost $100 too....

Yes, Maleah, you actually get to talk to Don for about 5 minutes or so at his M&Gs while he signs autographs, and he is very accomodating--I saw him sign more than one album or t-shirt for several people. (I didn't know this before I went and only took one item for him to sign, his book.) Anyway, it is reeeeeeeally nice.

BTW, I checked Chris Isaak's website and this was posted about Stevie on 6-5:

On Friday we played at the Soboba Casino ,which is out in the desert towards Palm Springs. It took us so long to get there from L. A . that we pretty much just got there and jumped up on stage and played and left . It was Stevie Nick's Birthday so we gave her a cake and that was fun . She is such a sweetie.

Any Stevie fans got her latest CD/DVD "Crystal Visions" - she does a running commentary on some of her videos - some of the stories are a hoot :hilarious:

I was fortunate enough to see FM live at Earl's Court in 2003 - wow, seems like yonks ago now. You won't be disappointed Holly - although some "critics" poo-poo a couple of albums.

Are you going to start with the 60's FM when they were blues based? or just from "Fleetwood Mac" when Lindsey and Stevie joined up?

A few DVD's I can reccommend are "Destiny Rules", "Live in Boston" "The Dance" Classic Album series "Rumours" and a load of others.

And there's also Stevie's "Red Rocks" which is when she wasn't in the best of health IYKWIM  The funniest bit is at the beginning when Stevie gets out of her limo wearing trainers and Mick Fleetwood gets out and he's looks about 10 feet taller than her :partytime:

I just checked the prices on Amazon and the DVD's are going for a song - new £4.97 and used from £3.12 - which would be between 6 -10 US$.

As I mentioned in another thread, after the Hard Rock Park Eagles show in South Carolina I hopped in my Honda and drove to Mississippi to see Stevie at, coincidentally, the Hard Rock Casino. It's in Biloxi and I joined two friends there to have a great time!

It was also general admission. My friends and I have camped out for Lindsey before and knew that in order to ensure good seats, you have to be EARLY. We got there at 12:30 pm for an 8:00 pm show and we were 7, 8, and 9th in line. We settled in, made friends with the fans around us, and waited for the show. One of them told us that Stevie's photo was on the $5 chips and of course I ran over and got one immediately! Since I never have luck gambling, I stuck that chip in my purse. I am the Stevie fan the Hard Rock Casino hates - I walk straight to the concert and straight out without stopping at any tables or slots!

We got primo positions up at the front - although we were crowded in like sardines due to all the people pressing up to get closer! When Stevie came out, she looked lovely. I think she's lost weight.

She started out with her old combo of "Outside the Rain" and "Dreams", rather than "Stand Back" like she has done on recent shows. "Stand Back" was reserved for second, when after the thunderous applause for "Dreams", she cried "ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?" We all screamed we were and, after donning her famous spotted "Stand Back" scarf, she went into the song. She sang it with such spirit! She did some amazing howls and even did a high kick in her glorious black platform boots before the instrumental bridge. She brought the house down, and it was only the second song!

Stevie loves to tell stories between songs, and before the next one - "Sorcerer" - she reminisced about how she and Lindsey were so scared they weren't going to make it before their big break with Fleetwood Mac - "I had to go back to waiting tables after our Buckingham Nicks album flopped" - and she wrote the song at that point in her life. She also did great on that song.

Next was "If Anyone Falls." She started adding this to her set list in 2005 and the harmonies on it are great.

"Landslide" was moving, as always, although I prefer it when she does it with Fleetwood Mac, backed up by Lindsey on guitar. Funny moment: her lead guitarist Waddy Wachtel was all ready to do acoustic guitar but apparently his mic wasn't on. He hollers to the side of the stage "HEY! WAKE UP OVER THERE! I GOT NOTHIN'!" They reinstore the sound, and Stevie sings "Yay, we've got something!" in a cute way. As she has done lately, she flashed photos of her father who died in 2005 behind her as a tribute to him. She also dedicated the song to us, her fans. :)

Stevie introduced her cover of the Dave Matthews Band song "Crash" with, "I LOVE this song and I've never had more fun than when I'm doing it. Dave Matthews was supposed to be here tonight, but his wife had a baby and so he couldn't make it." While I've never been sure "Crash" was the best choice for Stevie's voice, you can't help but enjoy it when Stevie is having such a good time with it. When she sang, "And the boy said... hike up your skirts a little more and show your world to me" - she hiked up her skirts a bit, to the whoops of the men in the crowd. She did look pretty dang sexy singing it.

"Fall From Grace" always rocks live, and she nailed it here, singing it with a lot of fire! "Maybe I've fought this long and this hard just to make sure you SURVIVE!"

Since Stevie rarely adds songs to her setlist, we were all astonished and delighted when she announced that she was covering the Bob Seger song "Face the Promise." Before she sang it, she told a little story on Seger...

"This is a story the band hasn't even heard," she said. "I've always loved Bob Seger, and he and I shared a producer, Jimmy Iovine. One time Jimmy told me that he was recording in the studio with Bob, and Bob says goodbye to him 'See you tomorrow' - just like always. Well, tomorrow arrives, and no Bob. 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00... finally Bob calls. 'Where are you?' Jimmy asks him. 'I'm about 1 hour outside of Detroit,' Bob answers. He'd just decided to get into his car and drive to Detroit without telling anyone! And in honor of that kind of spirit, I'm going to cover this next song, which really captures it."

I think I've captured Seger's spirit too then, as during this trip I've crossed not only Indiana, South Carolina, and Mississippi, but Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, and Illinois.

Off into "Face the Promise," which she had a lot of fun with. "Goodbye, Mississippi!" got lots of cheers in Biloxi! Behind her were projections of highways from the POV of the driver and then, through the Hard Rock Casino (again POV of the person going through the casino). It was all sped up, but very cool!

She went offstage at this point and there was a spooky musical interlude while Stevie changed costumes for her next song, "Gold Dust Woman." She spun around in her lovely gold shawl and we were all cheering madly. She rocked that famous howl and danced around Waddy during the instrumental, as she has done of late.

Another hop offstage for a costume change with "Rhiannon", while Scott Plunkett played a beautiful opening piano solo. She came out again in flowing sleeves and a dipping neckline, looking absolutely gorgeous. Her finishing ad-libs were especially good, as she went HIGH on them as opposed to dropping them an octave like she usually has been doing. It rocked!

She tucked her sleeves up a bit to go into "How Still My Love," which she sang in a very sexy, smoky voice. Then, to top it off, she did a very sexy dance at the very end, including taking off her shawl and spinning it above her head. My girl Stevie really knows how to work it!

Off again for another costume change while Lenny Castro and Jimmy Paxton did their drum solos. Then, Waddy did a guitar solo that had everyone screaming. He was really in "rock star" mode that night, even throwing picks to fans, and we were all crazy for him! Then, he did that famous opening riff, and everyone once again went crazy recognizing "Edge of Seventeen." Stevie came back out in a white dress and black duster and she was on FIRE! Unfortunately, due to the distance between the stage and the gate behind which the audience was located, she couldn't touch hands. We were all disappointed at that but oh well, the show was great, so we can't complain.

We all chanted "STEVIE! STEVIE! STEVIE!" until she came back out again for the encore, in an adorable top hat, and did the Led Zeppelin song "Rock and Roll." She kind of messed up the words at one point, but she didn't let that faze her, still having a blast with it and giving it all she's got.

She once again teased us by saying goodbye and going offstage, but after more applause and cries of "STEVIE!" she came back out again to do one more song. She had changed again and was resplendent in all white. Lately she has been ending with "Beauty and the Beast," but when I saw the background was flashing graphics of the American flag and soldiers, I knew it was something different for tonight. Then, she launched into the old favorite "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You." Listen to her impassioned voice sing those poignant lyrics as images of soldiers with their families... and also military cemeteries... flashed across the screen moved many of us - myself included - to tears.

Stevie was not just amazing, she was magnificent. She just turned 60 a couple weeks ago (she said she celebrated by going to see the musical "Wicked" and that she can see herself as the witch, lol) and she can rock harder than most people half her age. What a show!

I watched Part 1 of Stevie's show last night and she was wonderful.
To my surprise, my husband also sat down & watched the first half of the show with me. He's not much of a music fan but he knows Stevie from Fleetwood Mac, and he made the comment that she was still looking very beautiful, which of course she is. He remembered she had some sort of connection to Don so he asked me about it, and I told him the whole story and how she wrote "Sara" about her relationship with Don and their unborn child. I had just finished the story when she started singing that song! My heart just ached when she sang the line "there was a heartbeat and it never really died."

WHAT?!?!? This is just like when I found out about Stevie & Joe on the board a few weeks ago, all over again! You guys know it all and have to fill me in all the time -Sorry! I knew Stevie and Don had been connected but had no idea there had been a baby (miscarriage?)? As stated before, I have Fleetwood Mac and of course Stevie's music, but really never knew much of the "personal stuff" about her. Sure wish someone would write a credible biography about her. I just bought Micks autobiography. Can someone fill me in on this little piece of news?

DonFan
07-18-2008, 11:34 AM
From the Don & Stevie thread:

They met when Fleetwood Mac was playing before the Eagles at a festival in 1975. When Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie broke up in 1976, they started an on-again, off-again affair which lasted a few years. Of course, she became pregnant with his baby in 1977, I believed, named it Sara, then aborted it. The song Sara was in part inspired by Don.

Lines from Sara:
"He was singing... and undoing the laces..." [you guess what that means lol]
"When you build your house, call me home.." [Don was building his house at that time. I think they "had some fun" in it while it was being constructed.]

After the relationship ended in the seventies, they remained friends. Don duetted with Stevie famously on Leather and Lace, but also appeared on The Highwayman (perhaps partially inspiriting it) and Reconsider Me. She also refers to him at the end of Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You when she sings "the Men in her life were poets... priests of nothing... legends." You know that's partially Don.

She always speaks of him in glowing terms, even after he "spilled the beans" about the abortion. He apologized to her profusely. He sent her 50 silver roses on her 50th birthday. They often appear at each other's charities.

TimothyBFan
07-18-2008, 12:14 PM
DF--you are much to kind- you should of just said "look in the Don & Stevie thread dummy!" Anyways-WOW-once again. I wonder why the abortion-were either connected to someone else at the time? Didn't want to put the careers on hold? And how did Don "spill the beans"? Was it in an interview or something? Sorry again if already been posted. I just haven't made it thru everything on here from before I joined. I will, however, be reading the whole Don & Stevie thread very shortly. Stevie has always intrigued me but never really heard much about her other than music wise. Also just wanted to add-how does Don's wife feel because to me in seeing any videos of them performing together etc, they are always touchy feely and seem so happy together. I as a wife think that would be very difficult to handle no matter how confident I might be in our relationship. What's everyones feeling on this?

sodascouts
07-18-2008, 12:39 PM
Stevie says she aborted the baby because Fleetwood Mac was at the height of their success and she couldn't take time off for a pregnancy. No one knew about the abortion until Don gave an interview in Gentleman's Quarterly in 1991. In it, he said:

"I believe to the best of my knowledge [Stevie] became pregnant by me. And she named the [unborn] kid Sara, and she had an abortion and then wrote the song of the same name to the spirit of the aborted baby. I was building my house at the time, and there's a line in the song that says ‘And when you build your house, call me.''

A lot of Stevie fans were up in arms about it, because they felt he had been tacky to reveal to the press something Stevie had tried to keep private, and had never mentioned.

For a while, Stevie refused to comment on the revelation, but in 1994 she told Mary Turner in a radio interview that Don had made many apologetic phone calls and that all was forgiven. They remain friends.

If it were my husband who was dancing and singing with Stevie Nicks, I think I would pretty insecure! Once a tabloid said Mrs. Henley got pissed off when Don sent Stevie the 50 silver roses for her birthday. However, tabloids are far from reliable sources. Since she obviously hasn't forbidden her husband to perform with Stevie, she must be confident enough in their marriage to allow it.

DonFan - we were all blown away when she did Sara on that night! I love her ad-lib "The wind became... crazy..." before and after "There's a heartbeat and it never really died" - I wonder if she means that her lifestyle, touring, everything was so crazy she was overwhelmed and wound up doing something she regretted?

Ok- I just read Don & Stevie--it looks like we all agree with the jealous wife thing-I can't even imagine watching that. But why did it never work out between them? It seems that they are soul mates and have been most of their lives. Did the careers just not let it happen?

Also, hate to say it, but Don did sound kinda uncaring about something so important, especially since it was his child also. I guess I must admit tho, I am having a time understanding how any one could abort a baby because "my band is doing so good right now and I can't take time off for a pregnancy". Guess that is the mother in me coming out but that statement does bother me a bit but I'm sure that when she said it she might have been downplaying it abit.

Also, sorry, I guess maybe I should be posting this stuff in the Don & Stevie topic?

I was at Wal Mart yesterday and saw Crystal Visions by Stevie Nicks and bought it. It is a great CD, I didn't have any of her solo CDs. There is one question that I have. I went online and tried to find the answer but couldn't.
In the liner notes she writes about the song Stand Back, "I had just gotten married", I didn't know Stevie was ever married and not husband has ever been mentioned. Does anyone have any info on who and when she was married.

sodascouts
07-27-2008, 06:20 PM
Stevie was very briefly married in 1983 to the widower of her best friend, who had just died. They divorced within months.

It's really a sad situation. Stevie had been best friends with Robin Snyder since high school, and she took Robin with her on Fleetwood Mac tours to keep her company.

In the late seventies, Robin married a man named Kim Anderson. In 1981, however, she learned some devastating news: she had terminal leukemia. Not long afterwards, she also discovered she was pregnant. The doctors told her having the baby would likely kill her, but she refused to have an abortion. She said she wanted to "leave a piece of me behind" through her child.

The doctors were right; Robin died before she could even carry the baby to term. When it became obvious she was at death's door, the doctors performed an emergency C-section, but the baby was three months premature. It was touch-and-go, but the baby miraculously survived; Robin died two days after his birth.

Stevie and Kim grieved together, and Stevie decided she would marry Kim and help him raise Robin's child. She did it with the right intentions, but it was a horrible mistake. She and Kim were from completely different worlds: he was an old-fashioned, religious middle-class man and she was a hedonistic rock star. It fell apart very quickly, and Stevie rarely talks of it. In fact, sometimes she says she was never married.

Interestingly, she became involved with Joe less than a month after her final blowout with Kim.

Don trivia: Stevie says everyone thought she was crazy for getting married to Kim, and a lot of people didn't want to come to the wedding. She called Don to come, and he was so agitated that she was making such a huge mistake that he actually hung up on her. Then, a couple days later, he called her back and said he would come to the wedding for her sake, but he still thought it was a horrible idea. I thought it was sweet that he would be supportive even then.

Another piece of Eagles trivia: Fleetwood Mac played a benefit for the City of Hope, the hospital that cared for Robin, in 1982. Glenn Frey opened with special guest Joe Walsh, and Don Henley performed Leather and Lace with Stevie during Fleetwood Mac's set. It was the only time Glenn, Joe, and Don all performed at the same event in the entire decade.

I have a bootleg of it; it's very moving. Stevie dedicates Landslide to the City of Hope because it "gave us a little more time." She sings the song is a wavering tear-filled voice. Towards the end, she stops singing long enough to say "I know she's here" - and then finishes the song choked with emotion.

Don comes out after that and they do Leather and Lace together, with Fleetwood Mac backing (the only time that's ever happened). She's still struggling but they get through it. On a lighter note, as he comes out, you hear a girl near the taper go "Don Henley - YES!"

I just happen to have both on my hard drive, so I uploaded 'em. Click if you'd like to hear the songs:

Soda, I've remembered I actually have a question about Stevie. I once read that the song Think About It concerns John & Christine McVie's marriage and she is telling Christine not to leave. Is this true?

sodascouts
08-11-2008, 01:23 PM
It is indeed about Christine, but she was asking her not to leave Fleetwood Mac rather than not to leave John. Since Stevie was breaking up with Lindsey Buckingham at the same time, she and Christine kind of encouraged either other to "make it alone."

I had to literally laugh out loud when I read this on MSN.com's "Celebrity Quotes of the Week"

Celebrity Quotes for the Week of April 10

"Over my dead body. She needs to stop doing drugs and get a grip. Then maybe we'll talk." -- Stevie Nicks, responding to talk of Lindsay Lohan playing her in a film (New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/09/fashion/09STEVIE.html?_r=2&sq=stevie&st=cse&scp=1&pagewanted=all))

Stevie is definitely talking to a lot of press lately. Here is a quote from RollingStone.com:
-------------------------------------------------------
If we had a single regret about going to Australia with the Kings of Leon (for RS's current cover story), it would be that we missed Fleetwood Mac performing at Madison Square Garden. But, when we returned, we had the pleasure of lunching with Ms. Stevie Nicks, who was in New York to promote her new live CD-DVD, The Soundstage Sessions: Live in Chicago, a collection featuring some of her biggest hits and baddest rarities. We chatted about the first time she met Lindsey Buckingham (at a Mormon Party), and that time she unceremoniously dumped Don Henley.

But it was truly awesome to rap about "Silver Springs," an amazing track that was left off Rumours. The song is about her breakup with Buckingham -- "I'll follow you down till the sound of my voice will haunt you," she sings. "It was me realizing that Lindsey was going to haunt me for the rest of my life," she says. "And he has."

When she performs "Silver Springs" these days -- it's the final number on Fleetwood Mac's current tour -- Nicks resists the opportunity to get up in Lindsey's face: "I don't want fans to walk away in the middle of our argument."
-------------------------------------------------------

"Unceremoniously dumped Don?" I wish she had elaborated on that.

P.S. I just tried to watch the Jimmy Fallon interview and it is already down.

I wonder if she's a bit displeased with Don for some reason lately? First the "he wishes" comment to EW.com and now this! Her stories often change with who she is happy with and who she is mad at, lol. But we don't have a direct quote, so perhaps Rolling Stone put their own spin on her comments.

Rolling Stone do this all the time. They 'editorialise' on absolutely everything. This sounds so made up it is almost self-parodic.

By the way, as Silver Springs has come up, please tell me which version I should buy (I have never heard the song). On iTunes there are two versions from Rumours (Remastered). Here's something kinda strange I came across a few minutes ago. It's from 2004 and has probably been seen already but I thought it was interesting. A bit about Lindsey also but the stuff about Stevie I found a little intriguing and, dare I say, strange. About a mystery daughter that's unconfirmed and apparently 4 abortions. Also mentions about Don and her's daughter. According to this, Don had a nursery ready and all. Just weird. How much is true I wonder. And the rumors of who she has been romantically linked to include Cheryl Crow and most of her female backup singers?

Fleetwood Mac (http://en.allexperts.com/q/Fleetwood-Mac-461/) - research paper on "Rumours"

Expert: Callie Pillar - 11/2/2004

Question
I am doing a research paper on Fleetwood Mac. I am focusing mainly on the "Rumours" era. Any info you have on history of the bandmembers, their relationships with eachother, autobiographical info, or a web site where I can talk to any of the members, etc. would be a big help. Thank you, Sarah

Answer
Hi again Sarah,

I am sorry about the delay. My computer useage has been very limited over the past week. Here are the remainder of the stats on the other two members.

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM
Born: Lindsey Buckingham
Birthday: 3 October 1949
Place: California, USA

He has an astrological sign of Libra, and has two older brothers named Gregory "Greg" and Jeffery "Jeff", the oldest. Greg was an Olympic Swimmer and silver medalist winner in 1968. Greg died on November 11, 1990 in San Carlos, California of a massive heart attack. Greg is survived by his wife Daryl, son Cooper who is now 27, and daughter Cory, now 24.

Married to:
Kristin Messner (15 February 2000-present) 3 children

William born in 1998, Leelee born in 2000, and baby Stella born in 2004.

Parents: Morris and Rutheda "Ruth". Dad Morris died in February 1974 at the age of 55. His mom Ruth passed away on January 2, 1999 at 78 years old.

Rutheda's Grandfather founded Keystone Coffee and his father Morris founded Alta Coffee in California. Stevie and Lindsey used to practice their music in the 1960's and 1970's in one of the rooms at his dad's coffee plant.

Lindsey always seemed to be very attracted to blondes with dark eyes and whispy voices, like Stevie Nicks. He has dated many women who look just like Stevie. One in particular, named Carol Harris, had long blonde hair, big brown eyes, and she was beautiful and petite with a quiet, yet smoky voice. She was a dead ringer for Stevie.

In the late 1990's, Carol was on a talk show, I think maybe Sally Jessy Raphael or Maury Povich (I do not remember exactly which one, but I do have the interview on video). The show was about rock stars and physical spousal abuse. She was on there to tell the story of her abusive relationship with Lindsey in the 1980's, and how on more than one occasion, the pair would be driving down the road and Lindsey would stop the car for no reason, and begin violently hitting Carol until she was black and blue and in tears. This behavior of Lindsey's seems to have carried over through the years, as he had done the same type of things to Stevie Nicks through most of their relationship. A little of that behavior was discussed in Mick's book "My Life And Adventures In Fleetwood Mac". I believe that some of his problem stems from his excessive drug and alcohol use.

One of his favorite places to create his music is in his "rain room". In his home in California, he has a greenhouse type room that is actually an all tile bathroom with glass walls and an all glass ceiling that he converted into a mini recording studio. When it rains, he goes in the room and sits and writes his music. This way he can enjoy the rain and not get wet.

STEVIE NICKS
Born: Stephanie Lynn Nicks
Birthday: 26 May, 1948
Place: Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona, USA at Good Samaritan Hospital on McDowell Road and 12th Street in Central Phoenix.

She has an astrological sign of Gemini with a Capricorn Moon and Aries rising.

Married to:
*Kim Anderson (29 January 1983-April 1984) Divorced

Step-Child: Matthew Anderson who is about 22 years old now(she has not seen him in many years)

Parents: MOM - Barbara Alice Meeks-Nicks (born 12 November, 1927 in Bisbee, Arizona
DAD - Aaron Jess Seth Nicks "Jess" (both are living in Paradise Valley, Arizona)

Brother: Christopher Aaron Nicks born 18 December, 1955 in El Paso, Texas, USA

Brother's Wife and Stevie's longtime friend and back-up singer: Lori Perry-Nicks born October 1951 in California

Brother's Daughter: Jessica James Nicks "Jessi" born 27 September, 1991

Children: No one knows for sure except for Stevie! She claims to have had 4 abortions in the 1970's and 1980's. One of the pregnancies was from Don Henley sometime in the late 1970's or early 1980's. The two were going to have a girl and name it Sara. Stevie was a few months along and Don had set up a nursey for baby Sara's arrival. Stevie apparently found out that the unborn baby had down syndrome and other complications. She chose to abort the child, due to that, and the fact that she was on so many drugs and alcohol at the time, she figured that baby Sara did not have a chance at a healthy life. This all came from a book with quotes by Don Henley.

There are also rumors flying around (with incredibly strong evidence to back up these rumors), that Stevie possibly has a daughter named Cheryl Cusella aka Britney Marx. Cheryl looks exactly like Stevie (with traces of Barbara Nicks) during the "Rumors" era. Cheryl Yvonne Cusella was born in June 1964 and was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona and Cape May Court House, New Jersey. (Stevie would have been 16 at the time of Cheryl's birth) Cheryl has a brother named Nino Cusella, a business man in Scottsdale, AZ. Cheryl graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale in the early 1980's, the same high school that Stevie's younger brother Christopher attended in the late 1970's.

Cheryl started out as a Stevie Nicks impersonator in the mid 1980's and went on to other things including concert promoting and animal shelter work throughout the years. She has been in and out of jail several times for fraud and drug use. Another career of Cheryl's was a strip club act in the late 1990's where her altar ego, Britney Marx, would lip-synched Stevie Nicks songs while topless. She is quite the local infamous celebrity. The act apparently went over well at Tiffany's Cabaret (now know as Christie's) in Phoenix, Arizona. It was written about in several local newspapers at the time.

Cheryl released a CD of music as Britney Marx, in the late 1990's. It did not do well on the charts or anywhere else for that matter. She cannot sing very well but the music is ok. I do have a copy of it if you are interested.

The reason I say that this rumor has strong evidence to back it up is because I once personally asked one of Stevie Nicks' closest family members (I won't name names) if Cheryl was in fact Stevie's biological daughter. The family member got very silent for a few moments, then began giving what seemed like a hundred frantic reasons why that's not possible (none of which were at all valid), and then got very angry at me and said, "I don't want to talk about this anymore!" and that "Cheryl Cusella is no longer my friend!" This family member has never mentioned Cheryl again and neither have I. It's an extremely touchy subject for this person and I feel like they would have never reacted the way they did, if Cheryl was not somehow related to the Nicks family. (This is, of course, my own assumption.)

To sum it up, this family member never once actually confirmed nor denied that Cheryl Cusella is Stevie's biological daughter. The subject was simply detoured somewhere else.

Stevie started singing at the age of 4 years old on table tops at local saloons and pubs in the 1950's. Stevie's grandfather A.J. Nicks was a local Phoenix country star and he took Stevie with him to his gigs. Barbara stopped the duo's career together when A.J. wanted to take tiny Stevie across the country on tour for more shows. Barbara said absolutley not, and that brought some harsh feelings between the family members.

Until Stevie was about 5 or 6, she could not say the name 'Stephanie'. She would say the name and it sounded like "Teedy". Barbara and Jess decided that Teedy, even though it was a nice cute name, was not appropriate for school. The two decided that 'Stevie' would be better and easier for little Stephanie to say! This story came from Barbara Nicks herself, when I asked her why they used the name Stevie and not Stephanie. She also told me that to this day she still calls Stevie her little "Teedy Bird".

Stevie used to pay her brother Chris 50 cents to dance with her as a kid and she always wanted to be a ballerina long before she ever wanted to be a singer.

Skip ahead a few years to her career. In 1964 she sang in a group called the Changing Times. Next was Fritz in 1966 in which she and bandmate Lindsey Buckingham began their life time career together. In 1972 the duo formed Buckingham Nicks and in late 1974 Lindsey was asked to join Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey said "not without my girlfriend Stevie", and the rest was history! Stevie has written and performed at least 75% of all the Fleetwood Mac chart topping hits and is the most influential artist in the group's history.

She went solo in 1981 with Bella Donna and with many more solo projects to follow as well as doing several Mac projects along the way. She has earned Fleetwood Mac many Grammy nominations for her songs like 'Silver Springs' and 'Dreams', which won them a Grammy Award in 1977 and was the first #1 hit that the Mac ever had. Stevie wrote and gave full rights of "Silver Springs" to her mother Barbara. With the first profits of the song, Barbara opened her antique store "Silver Spring Emporium" in the early 1980's in Scottsdale, Arizona. The store remained open and even moved locations a few times over the years until the late 1990's. The shop is currently under internal reconstruction and decorating and may not ever open back up, but Barbara told me that she still has plans to reopen asap.

Jess sold his concert venue and land in the late 1990's back to the Indians, who he originally purchased it from in the early 1980's. Compton Terrace, which was located in Chandler, Arizona, was home to many Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks concerts over the years! It was a great place to see a show.

Stevie, Barbara and Jess own a few pieces of land around Phoenix. There is a Whataburger Restaurant located at the NW corner of 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, Arizona. Stevie owns the land that it sits on and she came in for the opening of the store in the 1990's. She rode up on the back of her Harley Davidson, with her assistant driving, got off the bike and went in and ordered a burger, fries and a coke. She thanked everyone and the two hopped back on the Harley and rode back to home Paradise Valley. This story was in a local newspaper at the time.

Over the years Stevie has been said to have been romantically linked to stars such as Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, Tom Petty, Waddy Wachtel, Jimmy Iovine, most of her female back up singers, and many others.

I could really go on forever about Stevie Nicks, but you can only write so much in a term paper. Here are some useful Stevie links.

As I was reading this, it reminded me of 'The Long Story' thread!

I don't believe it. I think a few facts are interspersed with much crap.

sodascouts
05-01-2009, 03:23 PM
This is why I tell my students not to rely upon online research for their term papers! There is a whole lotta crap online. People post "facts" on unmoderated sites as "experts" and a lot of people just believe whatever they read. This "expert" has some facts right but some of her info is just fan community rumors or her own speculation (as she even admits at one point).

I've read tons of material, and never have I seen a story about Don building a nursery! Indeed, from the article where Don spills the beans about Stevie aborting the baby, he doesn't even seem 100% positive the baby was his. "To the best of my knowledge" is the way he put it. The book this "expert" speaks of where Don supposedly recounts how the baby had Down's Syndrome (!) does not exist as far as I know. Surely, if so, we'd have heard about it by now someplace besids here!

As for this "mystery daughter" - the "expert" admits they don't have any proof that Cheryl Cusella is related to Stevie. I seriously doubt that she is, because you know the media would have been all over it when Cusella was sued for fraud (see below).

Q: Who is Britney Marx?
A: In the 1980s Cheryl Cusella was a Stevie Nicks impersonator in Phoenix. She claimed she owned a limo company, and went into the concert promotion business. Cheryl booked acts she couldn't produce, and didn't pay the ones she did, including Mick Fleetwood's Zoo. Cheryl was convicted of two counts of fraud in 1989, served 38 days in jail, got seven years probation and paid $32,000 in restitution. She then changed her name to Britney Marx. Reportedly in 1990 she published a book called "Sweet Poison: A Heartfelt Diary." Most recently in June of 1999, Britney was charged by the Arizona state attorney general's office with six counts of theft (totalling nearly $500,000) and one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices related to an animal rescue organization."

http://stevienicksfanfare.50webs.com/trivia.htm

Stevie has never been connected romantically to her backup singers or Sheryl Crow, except in unsubstantiated tabloids. In fact, I remember Stevie talking about how she thought Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were such a great couple (back when they were together). One of her backing singers even married her brother!

SO much BS. And I know whenever I see a "source" which attributes rumors with the phrase that someone "has been said to have been romantically linked" I see a red flag.

Man, this is totally precious! This children's choir performs Landslide for Stevie before the Mac's show in Madison Square Garden, and after they finish their song, get their applause, and get some attention from Stevie (about 4:15 minutes into the video), the stage manager starts to get kind of "shoo" them off the stage. Well, Stevie would have none of it! She actually says "DON'T GO" to them and winds up hugging each one! How many big stars would do that??

They seemed to be wanting to know how he played his guitar, lol, since I saw him obligingly show them how he put his fingers on the neck. I also saw Mick's shadow crossing behind the stage facade. I think he was staying out of sight, lol, but I could be wrong! After all, he's the drummer, no need for him to stand out front.

Here's the write up of the children's director about this:

On June 11th, the PS22 Chorus performed its rendition of "Landslide" for Stevie Nicks at Madison Square Garden. Stevie was incredibly gracious and kind to all of us, as you can see for yourselves. She gave every child individual attention and reminded them that anything is within their grasp. (CASE AND POINT!!)

The audio on the video is very low, but of course this had to be posted even if there was no sound at all! The kids added a little piece of another Fleetwood Mac hit,"Silver Springs", as an intro to their performance to great effect! And watching Stevie leading the kids from the aisle at MSG is my outstanding memory of the chorus singing the song for her, so I'm glad the videographers caught that. It's too bad it's not in smell-o-vision, because this won't capture the KIDS' most outstanding memory of the day -- how good Stevie smelled!!

Thanks go to Fleetwood Mac, their management and friends (particularly Karen for sending the pics and video footage for the kids to see), Perez Hilton (for requesting and posting our version of the song), and of course to Stevie Nicks. You completely left us inspired!

Here's a shocker. I'm reading this relatively new Guns 'N Roses' bio, Watch You Bleed (Stephen Davis), and it turns out that Axl Rose is a BIG Stevie Nicks fan. Back in the day (mid 1980s), he used to tape all of her MTV videos and study her "ballet moves" to get some idea on how to move on stage. There is also a pix of her with Axl and Steven Tyler taken at one of their concerts here in LA. I got the book from my local library if your interested try yours and save a few bucks.

A couple articles about her just came out in V Magazine.

This is a quick Q&A:

And in this, she talks about some vintage photos of her:

One of them is a 1979 cover of Rolling Stone where they did a photo shoot of the band together, but everyone else got cropped out except Stevie hanging off of Mick. Ouch!!!

Her uncyclopedia article never fails to induce a cringe... why do people compare her to a goat? I don't understand. She's so cute! I love the one in the V Magazine artice you linked where she's grinning beneath a top hat. Completely adorable.

On an ancilary note, currently 64 people on here... Wednesday noon rush?

Finally arriving at the point... in anticipation of a Henley solo concert I might attend, I perused some of soda's Don & Stevie show reviews yesterday... She notes how differently the crowd respond to them - Don even says at one point after she appeared for a duet and the crowd exploded, "Don't worry, she'll be back!" Any theories on why people completely revere her and just kind of appreciate him, other than the obvious she's-open-and-accessible, he's-cold-and-sanctimonious?

Well, maybe the crowd response is just because a Stevie show is a different kind of show than a Henley one. Stevie wants people to stand and rock out, inviting them to run to the stage at the end so she can touch their hands.

Don tells folks to sit down until it's a fast song and others are standing (which is oxymoronic, because someone has to start it by standing before other people are!) Thus, the Don fans are more sedate as a rule at concerts.

Your last question about differences in fan attitudes is much more difficult to analyze, so I'll save that for later. ;)

Her uncyclopedia article never fails to induce a cringe... why do people compare her to a goat? I don't understand. The goat thing is too lame for words. It's a joke about her famous vocal vibrato, denigrating what she is known for by saying it sounds like a braying goat. WhatEVER, that voice has made her billions of dollars, so they can take their criticism and stick it where the sun don't shine. I thought about reworking that Uncyclopedia article as I did Glenn's and Don's - it's SO unfunny - but I didn't have the time to do it justice. Another terribly sucky entry is Joe's. Wish I had time to fix 'em all!

Any theories on why people completely revere her and just kind of appreciate him

Well, I think we have to be careful of reductive generalities. There are Stevie fans who aren't ardently in her thrall, and Don fans who are very passionate about him. Also, I don't want to create a false division. Many Don fans like Stevie and vice versa.

That said, for those who have not read it, I explained my opinion about why Stevie's hardcore fans are so passionate in this post (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=81254&postcount=112) - scroll down to the text above and below the last video, "Battle of the Dragon." As I said in that post, I believe my feelings are representative of the bulk of Stevie hardcores, speaking from my own experience as someone who has been immersed in the culture.

However, Don Henley speaks to many people through his music, too. So, what's the deal?

Perhaps it's because her songs are so personal. She has written nothing she didn't live. When she sings of being in love, losing that love, suffering for that love... you know it's real emotion there.

Don will often write a song that reflects his own personal experiences, but he isn't quite ripping himself open and displaying his heart to the degree Stevie does. She doesn't hold anything back.

I think Don maybe isn't quite as comfortable with displaying so much naked emotion because he's a man. Certainly, though, his music is deeply personal and emotional - just in a more subtle way.

Another element could be Stevie's sense of drama. It feeds the passion of her music and intensifies the emotional impact. As a result, the devotion of hardcore fans is also dramatic in both the way it is experienced and the way it is demonstrated.

Eh, who knows! I'm just taking some guesses here.

Anyway, I enjoy your theories, soda. I'll never understand his missionary stance on stage ("don't talk amongst yourselves! don't stand!") but the rest of your comments do align with the theories I entertained. I suppose I'm just thinking too hard - I was considering the objective male/female ratio of the fanbase versus the average age of the fans and their prior experiences with the Eagles/FMac versus the band's image and basically executing my typical full-fledged there-has-to-be-something-more analysis.

Oh, and you might want to negotiate an agent's fee or something - I downloaded every song you recommended earlier, plus a number of them from the link you provided (thank you for that). So you're certainly doing your part to spread the Stevie spirit. I love her attitude. She strikes me sometimes as basically a heart with legs, which is just so endearing - that captivating quality thad rendered Judy Garland so precious.

Since your statements contained such strong language and you didn't qualify them, then it opened your words up for misinterpretations. It went over my head, and I don't consider myself one who is inclined to "take things very literally" when it's not called for. I do, however, remember that ABM had written a rather scathing post about Don Henley in the past and therefore I had no reason to believe her statement was meant to be representative of others' distorted opinions rather than her own. I stand corrected. :)

Why thank you, soda, proud to be a member! A year or two late to the party but, hey, who's counting?

I suppose my Don post was rather scathing... I only criticize things I like, though, rather than scurring about lambasting things I dislike. Horrible practice, but if something genuinely interests me, it's worth my time and I enjoy examining its intricacies, even the potentially undesirable portions; otherwise, I brush past it in a straighforward, blithely accepting manner and proceed as quickly as possible to something worth my effort and attention. My compliments, like my humor, tend to wither beneath the perceptions thereof. However, in retrospect it was completely uncalled for, and I should have posted it on my blog instead. Anyway. I do think it makes sense that demographics could very well affect crowd response in the sense that the Stevie hardcore fans tend to be a bit younger for some reason, and consist almost entirely of women and gay men. Most of Don's hardcores are women too - at least from my experience - but they are a bit older (not OLD, mind you, just a bit older than the majority of Stevie hardcores! Stevie Nicks hardcores usually range from about 18-35.) While men may not make up the majority of Don hardcores, there are certainly more of them than are in the Stevie hardcore fandom.

Stevie hardcore fans tend to be a bit younger for some reason, and consist almost entirely of women and gay men. Ah-hah! Insight! The precise token of knowledge I sought. That audience contrasted with Don's would react in a markedly different fashion. Perhaps it is similar to the hardcore demographic in that sense.

I dunno, I listened and watched the performance and no doubt Stevie was dead on! But I didn't hear Taylor Swift making a travesty of that performance. They just sing such different styles. Nicks' songs are "more mature" in content and Taylor's are a lot "less sophisticated". But I don't think that was the point of the statements about Taylor.

I do wish that more time had been given to Stevie to do her thing. She is awesome and her part in that duet was subdued with harmonies backing up Taylor.

Maybe it's just too early in the morning for my ears to pick up the parts everyone is talking about. I'll listen to it again after I get home and have a better speaker system to listen to than ear-buds or notebook speakers!

As I told Nancy in a text last night, I finally saw what it is that she adores about Stevie! Don't get me wrong, I've always liked her but in a take it or leave it kind of way. I fell for her a bit last night. ;) Even though she didn't get much time on stage, she absolutely captivated me! I can't even give you a particular reason why! lol I had goosebumps when she walked out on stage. Halfway through their performance my sister, who wouldn't know who Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac are if they held up a sign in front of her, said "Taylor's a sweetheart but vocally she's just not in the same league as that other lady."

I adore Taylor Swift's attitude and personality and she is a fantastic songwriter, especially at her young age. That being said, she rarely sounds good singing live. She sounds great on her albums but, with the exception of a couple of performances, I've never heard her sound great on a live performance. It looked to me like Stevie enjoyed herself though. She was standing back from the mic, singing along even when it wasn't her part to sing. I read several online interviews/articles with Taylor where she was freaking out that she was going to get to sing with Stevie. Brooke White said on Twitter that she was jealous because that was her dream. ;)

How many grammys did Swift win Sunday night? A Bunch. Honestly, I'm not really a fan of hers...not the way I am with Stevie. And objectively, there is no doubt that Taylor doesn't have the instrument that Stevie has and she really hasn't learned to use what she has to reach her potential as a vocalist.

I think people like the openness about Swift along with her remarkable ability to come up with lyrics that are popular today and her youthfull exuberance. Sort of a breath of fresh air.

But when it comes to getting down and moving you, she has a long way to go before she can be assumed to be in the same ballgame as Stevie Nicks. But then, there are few vocalists today (or yesterday) who are up there with Stevie.

To her credit, Taylor did try to get in there and mix it up with Stevie. Maybe she shouldn't have. Could be that if they had paired her up with one of the country singers, people would have been lauding her praises. Who knows.

Oh well, regardless of the performance Last Night, she is the one who took home the gold.

Hi ABM!

From all accounts Ms. Swift has a voice that does not hold up live. She is consistently off key, not just here but any time she performs.

It could be she is one of those performers who gets nervous performing live, or needs a lot of takes to "get it right."

Or, it could be she isn't much of a singer and they autotune the heck out of her voice for her albums.

Is it wrong to autotune?

I figure, Autotune is the music industry's version of liposuction. People admire the person who's lost weight naturally by working hard, dieting, exercising, etc.; people respect that person more than they would someone who got thin through liposuction... but in the end, all they really care about is how good the person looks in a bikini.

And in the end, all Taylor's fans care about is how good she sounds on their iPods.

MikeA
02-04-2010, 09:17 PM
I tend to agree with Soda. I admire Taylor immensely for the talent she is showing at her age for songwriting, and I also think that they do clean her vocals up with Autotune. I've come close to buying a VST version of it myself for it can really clean up pitchy performances both in the studio and on stage. I don't think they were using it the night of the Grammys <smile>.

She has sold a lot of albums and I really they are using objective measures rather than subjective ones in the decision making for those awards. And that is not necessarily a bad way to do it. Obviously America loves her.

During the M&G I attended, while talking to Joe one-on-one, I was tiptoeing around the topic of Stevie and Joe and Emma for I'd visited the park and had taken some photos of the little fountain Stevie mentions in the introduction of the song "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" that appeared in another thread (R&R Birthdays).

I didn't want to dredge up memories of Emma before the Eagle's concert, but I was curious about Joe's current relationship with Stevie. I don't even remember exactly how I broached the subject, but one thing he said was:

"Stevie is a Good Witch".

I think there is still a lot of respect between those two Rockers.

Thanks for sharing that, Mike. Joe rarely speaks of Stevie but when he does, it is with fondness.

It's always nice to hear that our faves are putting out new music!

As far as the video, somebody give that poor girl a hair barrette!

I'm sure Stevie is flattered whenever somebody does her stuff.

Courtney Love is a huge Stevie fan and often sings her praises - you can ever see her in the audience at the taping of Fleetwood Mac's live DVD/CD The Dance - so I give her and her band Hole a pass!

The best cover of a Mac song I ever heard was Matchbox 20's "Never Going Back Again" off of Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac (http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-Tribute-Fleetwood-Macs-Rumours/dp/B000006E4O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1280439427&sr=8-1) but I can't find that online and it's quite a rarity. You basically have to buy the CD to hear it unless you get it through illegal file sharing (which of course I don't encourage). If you're a Fleetwood Mac fan, Legacy is worth buying. You can get it on Half.com (http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ3268507QQcpidZ1866786http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ3268507QQcpidZ1866786) for less than a dollar (prior to shipping which adds a couple bucks).

Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see her in Atlantic City!

Have fun! I wish she'd play down here. I'd love to see her solo. I saw Fleetwood Mac last year and they were great! Stevie sang part of one of her new songs.

Well, this has been one crazy weekend. I'm still not all the way back home - I decided to overnight with my friend in Mississippi and hit the final three and a half hours to Memphis tomorrow when I'm more awake.

In short, Stevie was incredible. She added a song that she'd never done live before as her encore, "Love Is," and it was beautiful. She also threw in a cover she hasn't done before - Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me" - and although I love to hear Stevie's solo songs, variations in the setlist are a treat even if they are covers.

There was a lot of drama between fans and security that marred the show somewhat, but Stevie herself was really "on." She was going after those high notes, grabbing that mike stand and pulling it back and howling like nobody's business! She rocks my socks!

More detail later.

But before I go to bed tonight, I've gotta switch my avatar - Stevie weekend is over, and now it's time to prep for the POT!

NOTE: This post is about my personal stuff! Show review later.

Well, this was quite an arduous but fun trip! With an eye toward saving money, my friend and I took a lot of shortcuts that added to our stress level but did save us money. One of those was driving to Atlanta to catch a flight to Atlantic City that only cost $150 round trip. The only problem: we couldn't take any carry-on or checked bag without a fee. We were only allowed one "personal item" such as a purse or a laptop.

So I stuffed my concert outfit, underwear, pajamas, and some toiletries in a laptop back, and wore another outfit. That was it, folks! Wed-Sun with only one usable outfit, the one that was on my back (the concert clothes were for just that). Lovely - but functional and cheap!

I live in Memphis; my friend lives outside of Jackson, MS; the plane leaves from Atlanta. All in all, for me, about 10 hours on the road there, 10 hours back... if nothing goes wrong... all to save money.

Luckily, all my classes meet in the first part of the week and I was able to put materials online for my online course and set them to be posted while I was away. However, I did have meetings with students right up until the time I was to go to Mississippi, so I didn't have the opportunity to go home and change. I left directly from work to drive to Jackson, and left my work clothes in the car.

Once my friend and I left Jackson to go to Atlanta, all was well... for about an hour. Then my front left tire blew out as we cruised down the interstate. Thank God, we could pull over easily because we were in the far lane, and a nice man came by and changed the tire for us. Unfortunately, it also meant we had to go get a new tire and, what with finding a place that sells tires and buying it and having it changed... we lost almost two hours.

We got in to Atlanta, finally, at 3:00 am Thursday morning. Our flight left at 7:00am. We got a modicum of sleep and headed off in excruciatingly small seats to Atlantic City, with a 5-hr layover in Ft. Lauderdale. Once we got to Atlanta City at 6:00 that evening, though, we were ready to roll! lol!

We got there Thursday evening, and the show was Friday. We met up with a few other good friends and hung out, walking along the Boardwalk, eating funnel cake and getting little souvenirs.

We stayed at the casino where the show was being held, the Taj Mahal. It was OK, but I don't like to gamble, so my friends and I for the most part ignored that aspect and hung out, going to clubs and restaurants and the spa. It was so much fun that even before the show started, I was very glad I came.

I'll post about the show itself later! Stevie shone!

sodascouts

Any minute now! It's completely finished and preliminary copies have been sent out to industry folks.

So far no concrete confirmation that the Mac is working on a new album, but the persistent rumors are a good sign. Lindsey Buckingham, however, is confirmed as working on one!
