I have already mentioned this on FB but I want to get it out of the way. It was remarkable in one way, puzzling in another.

After PEF & Tequila Sunrise Glenn suddenly said that he had a special request from two women from Vienna, Austria, who had come here to see the show. He gave their names. This received a round of applause. These women were front row centre & I had seen Michael talking to them before the show started, but I had thought nothing of it. He said he was going back to a country song from Hell Freezes Over & he then proceeded to play The Girl From Yesterday. I was absolutey gobsmacked to use a British term & sat with my mouth hanging open which Danny clearly relished. At one point I pointed to myself when Glenn sang the title. He sang it beautifully, of course. It was an absolute privilege to see it. Afterwards, he said 'I hope George Jones records that song before he or I die'.

As for the women? I thought he'd play to them all night & my heart sank. He sang 'much' to them in Lyin' Eyes (I had that back in 2004) & he pointed at each of them. That is pretty much the sum total of the attention they got. Yes, having a song dedicated to them is a very big deal indeed. Good luck to them, I suppose. I believe I had already encountered them at Fallsview when he referred to them 'following him around Europe' & then there they were at Fallsview.

For myself during PEF I had a section sung to me which made me blush. I am not making this up. I don't blush easily. :shy: I tried to click my fingers at him during Route 66, which I can't, but he saw it. I waved at him during Smuggler's Blues. The woman next to me said 'he saw you' & I said 'I know'. (I know my Star Wars references).

I concentrated more on the lighting, which was very dramatic, and he had the spotlight on him in songs like Same Girl & Here's To Life. Can these songs get any better? I just sat there & wallowed in his voice. He is absolutely at the height of his powers as a singer & performer. So I really don't have much more to say beyond what I said in the previous reviews. He was effusive in his praise of the SSO & bowed to them near the end (He bowed to the audience the previous show, which was very sweet).

I got some photos, both on my phone & my camera.

I wish to thank him again from the bottom of my heart for doing this. He has made me very, very happy.

Wow!! He hasn't done that song live in almost 20 years.... Oh my gosh!!! What a thrill to be able to hear it! Those girls must be dying.... He continues to blow my mind with how awesomely he treats his hardcores - first you, then these ladies. How I wish I could have been there!

Thanks for sharing all of your excellent Glenn adventures with us, FP. I know you will cherish these memories forever.

And how wonderful that he sang The Girl From Yesterday for those two ladies. They have been following him across the globe and deserve the dedication. I'm very happy for them and agree that Glenn Frey is made of awesome! I don't care what anyone says about him, the man loves and appreciates his fans.

Wonderful pics FP once again! I notice the background is darker, making the pics look very classy and sophisticated! Did you do that deliberately or was it just the way the lighting was in relation to where you were seated?

Once again, thanks for sharing your experiences and pictures with us!

It's probably just the lighting. I had the setting on 'sport' which removes the flash, as usual. The camera photos are obviously better than those taken on the phone. I was determined to get some & I'm reasonably happy with these. I am still working on avatars & signatures. It seems that although I had a better seat the previous night, the second night photos are better.

Well both nights pictures are excellent FP. A friend of mine runs a photography school and before Fallsview I asked him for tips on concert photography. He replied that concert photography is one of the hardest types to plan for because of the unpredictable lighting and the movement of the musicians. And of course it is totally unreasonable to use flash, particularly if you are up close to the performers as they could be put off completely. 'Sport' is obviously the best setting and if you have the ISO number as high as possible it too helps, although at very high numbers enlarged pics can get grainy.

Well done on all the pics you posted from Australia!

EK, your turn next...........

An odd but very good review of Glenn's shows in Sydney. This guy has reviewed many shows where it's a well-known artist and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and he says that this was one of the best.

Thank you so much for finding this, VA. Apart from the error regarding Already Gone it is spot on & I wish to highlight some sections of it.

What was the exception, however, was that the Sydney Symphony seemed hardly to exist, crammed up the back of the stage where it was conducted by Guy Noble. From what this critic could see, there were only strings on stage, and a somewhat abbreviated version of them at that.

I hadn't expected the orchestra to be visible in Brisbane & Melbourne but I HAD expected to see it at the Sydney Opera House on a stage designed for it, & I was somewhat disappointed by this. I knew it would not be the entire orchestra, though.

Also evident were some plain white lights from above, to spotlight various members of the band when needed, and also, in one particularly moving song, to briefly glow upon Frey himself, during the accented word in its chorus, as if he were some ancient magi summoning the spirits.

This is lovely & he must be referring either to Same Girl or Here's To Life. I need an avatar called Ancient Magi. Watching Glenn alone in the spotlight like this was really something I had never seen before & it really allowed him to stretch out.

Regarding the sound mix it was better than in Melbourne particularly where his backing singers nearly drowned him out during YBTTC. Another point of interest is that Richard sang part of Caroline, No (which he refers to as 'his take' on Brian Wilson's song) along with him. I wasn't sure why this was necessary. I'm glad I got out a few more thoughts about this.

I just have one further, pathetic comment to make.

When he talked about Bobby Troup, the writer of Route 66, being married to Julie London, obviously that meant that he had to say my name.

All I can say is that hearing those two words - my name & my favourite city - spoken by him in that way was very pleasant indeed; no disrespect to Ms London of course (she is most famous for her version of Cry Me A River).
