A fuzzy pic, but shows the passion.

Here's what the caption on the picture was: And hallelujah to you Mr Glenn Frey. Superb concert, impeccable voice. You can leave your boots under my bed any day!

There were quite a few tweets that said it was a great concert.

It was a FABULOUS concert. Please excuse my very random collection of thoughts, I didn't take notes during the concert (hey, I was in row 4 and just slightly to Glenn's right, so I had way better things to look at than a notepad. :nahnah:). I will have to post in two parts since I have to go into work!

The only disappointment of the night was that he didn't do Here's To Life - after hearing FP's rhapsodies on his performance I would have loved to hear this. Also didn't do On The Way Home. (No orchestra).

Here we go then:

Dane Rumble was the opening act. I don't think very many people in the audience had ever heard any of his music - he started in hiphop and is more my teenage son's choice of music - but he has a good voice, and he was working really hard to interact with the audience. He also commented that they tried to choose the songs that weren't so "in your face." :hilarious: I think we were all surprised at just how much we enjoyed him. He said it was an honour to be there and we were all in for an amazing night with Glenn.

Glenn got huge cheers when he walked on, and the audience were really enthusiastic all night, singing along with PEF, excited to hear Tequila Sunrise (we got viva Mexico!), and belting out the choruses of Lyin' Eyes (he said he always dedicates this song to his first wife, Plaintiff, but his delivery of the line was more understated than I've heard before).

During LE he twice told people "Turn That Off!". At the end he apologised for shouting things out during the song, and said, "Here's my take on it. If you want to take my picture - go ahead. But if you want to make movies - well how would you feel if I turned up at your workplace and filmed you?". He didn't have to mention it again.

I loved the way he introduced each After Hours song. Some of the stories I hadn't heard before (e.g. TSOYS), and even when I knew the story, Glenn's delivery was unique

Route 66 was great - we didn't get the leg-in-the-air dancing, but Glenn did a very cool little growl on the last line. :smitten:

Each song was very well received, and when Glenn was performing the AH songs you could hear a pin drop - everybody was enraptured. The musicians were outstanding, the performance of every song was superb.

Glenn's voice was beautiful, I thought it was much stronger and richer than when I heard him with the Eagles in 2010. He absolutely nailed Caroline, No.

Part 2 to follow tonight...

EK, thank you for your review!!

I wondered about the filming, I saw a tweet that said he'd 'told some people off' for filming him, and it was 'Classic!' that he did. It seemed they'd thought it fair.

I don't think I realized there'd be no orchestra at the show. I've noticed he doesn't do Here's To Life if there's no orchestra.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the show, EK and I can't wait to hear Part 2!

On The Way Home was not performed at all on this tour. It appears that idea of the Eagles doing songs that influenced them has been dropped at least for now.

We were not supposed to take photos at the Opera House but everyone did & Glenn said nothing. Nobody attempted to film him that I could see. As I have said, what he needs to do is release this show on Blu Ray.

I am glad you enjoyed it but I am sorry you did not have the awesome experience that is Here's To Life.

What a shame that he's no longer doing "On the Way Home." I really enjoyed that song. Even if the Eagles are not going to record covers of songs from bands who influenced them, it is a great song and added some pep to the setlist. I wish he'd kept it.

First of all - thanks so much for your review, EK. So glad that you loved the show, but I didn't have any doubt that you would! :applause:

And that is a pretty good review that VA posted; the pictures are awesome. However, with regard to this ...

While Frey is an OK singer, songs like For Sentimental Reasons and The Look Of Love need a more distinctive voice behind them. Frey, with his somewhat generic voice, is better suited to story-songs like Lyin’ Eyes or Randy Newman’s Same Girl, which he covered during the show.

hmmm - Maybe it's just me, but I beg to differ.

Definitely not just you! I'm with FP...generic? Still, considering he didn't care for the After Hours songs, I felt it was a good review overall. Like he knew that if you did care for those it would be a super fantastic concert.

We all know the pics of Glenn are to die for, but there was a nice pic of Michael, and that one of Scott was downright adorable. It was nice of the photographer to include pictures of some of the backup band as well.

I noticed the 'to die for' photo of Scott too VK! also agree the one of Michael was nice.

I got a pic of Will, Steph. I'll try to get it up when I get home from work (& finish my review...). Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of him in his glasses - he kept taking them off - but wow, he looks HOT in glasses. :)

Most of my photos didn't come out as I didn't want to use the flash all night when I was so close... so I was happy to see the photos in the review VK posted.

Yes, I doubt a "generic" voice would inspire our level of fervor!

As far as those photos... OH MY GOSH. Some of the best I've seen from this tour.

My photos aren't great... but I have them. :) Of course, I would have liked more (& I'm gutted some didn't turn out) but then if I had spent all night taking photos I wouldn't have been able to wallow in the awesomeness so abundantly offered. :hilarious:

More thoughts on the show (and my apologies if I'm misquoting any of Glenn's comments, since I didn't write them down I'm going from memory here and that ain't what it used to be).

Glenn introduced Route66 by saying it was the only uptempo song on the AH album. Loved it, but I felt that the AH stuff really started with FSR - he sang with assurance and bringing down the tempo seemed to really allow his voice to wrap around me. :smitten: As I mentioned before, even though the audience were singing along with the earlier (and later) songs, during the AH set everyone was absolutely still, taking it in.

For TSOYS he mentioned the film it came from & said it was a really bad film, but the song was great. By now I'm starting to think that each song he does is even better than the last.

I really don't like the whole idea of the pimp+junkie hooker thing, but oh my, Same Girl was utterly haunting. That was the song going through my head the following day - and every since.

Caroline No was stunning, Glenn sang with conviction and assurance. Definitely one of the musical highlights of the night (as opposed to the emotional highlights, which for me were SG and The Look Of Love).

TLOL made me feel like Glenn was singing just to me. He wasn't even looking at me, but it still felt really personal - does that make sense? Definitely a "wallowing in awesomeness" moment!

We got TGFY!! The audience were thrilled, and again with The One You Love, and oh the sax was stunning. All Glenn's musicians were outstanding, and the only (tiny, tiny) downside to where I was sitting was that I couldn't see Michael Thompson at all, and I was too far forward to see the screens without craning my neck. I very briefly got to see him when he stood up when Glenn introduced him. (We got all the introductions at once, although Glenn had mentioned many of them during their solos).

The Heat is On - oh WOW. Glenn has to record this version (I'd love to see a video of all the musicians there). I knew from reading all your reviews that he did a "jazzy arrangement", but to most of the audience it was completely unexpected, and I could hear the group reaction move through "oh yeah, we know this one" to "oh, this is really really different" then to "OHHH, this is seriously COOL". I could listen to a LOT of that type of music (please).

Glenn then commented that the next song had absolutely nothing to do with any part of his life... Smugglers Blues was great, and we got the Jindabyne reference (although I'm not sure how many people picked up on it).

I hadn't heard Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed before, and I loved it. It was so much fun, even Will was smiling (he looked so serious for the rest of the night!).

Glenn "ended" with Take It Easy, and that was another moment when the whole audience was reacting pretty much the same way, I'm guessing everyone had been waiting to hear it. And sing it.

After lots and lots of applause, they came back for 2 encores, TITTL (lots of audience participation again), then Glenn said during that week he and his friend Don Henley wrote Tequila Sunrise - that would have been a good week on its own - and this song. Desperado was really well received, after that moment when everyone realised that it's not normally Glenn singing the lead. :) YBTTC sent everyone away buzzing. I did have a quiet laugh to myself when I saw Glenn's slice of lemon (he was sucking on it before Desperado too).

Reading back through these posts I note they are somewhat gushing and full of superlatives. No apologies - the man was all that and more. And his band, too. :partytime:

Brilliant review, EK. Thanks for the photos. I could get none of Will because the only time I had a good view of him was in Brisbane when photos were totally out.

Glad you found Same Girl haunting because for me after HTL which you sadly didn't get it was the highlight of each night. I'm also glad you got TGFY.

Apparently TLOL comes from Casino Royale. That is what he told us in Sydney after telling us previously it was from 'a James Bond film. (TSOYS comes from The Sandpipers which he called The Sandpiper each time).

The lemon sucking moment I only noticed in Melbourne.

Interesting that you got 'Jindabyne'. Aren't there any ski resorts in your mountains?! :)

I just want him to come back and.... 'do it all again'...... pause.... SIGH.

Glenn then commented that the next song had absolutely nothing to do with any part of his life... Smugglers Blues was great,

I really have no idea why this part made me laugh.

As far as the gushing, well, the man puts on a spectacular show. Vocals, instruments, performance, all of it without mucking it up with extras (like light shows or stages that move around). He gives it all he's got, so there's no way to give an honest review without gushing!!

Thank you for the review and I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much.

There are several reasons why this show needs to be filmed & released on DVD/Blu Ray.

It's so different from anything Glenn has done before. It shows an entirely different side to him. It focuses on HIM more than anything else he has ever done. It proves what a great & versatile singer he is; something which occasionally gets overlooked during Eagles shows.

Those are wonderful photos, EK! Thank you for those & your reviews.

I remember how we "gushed" so much after his concerts in Niagara Falls! You just can't help it! When you mentioned the lemon it reminded me that in one of the NF shows he said that he learned about using the lemons from Paul McCartney. He told us not to look as it "isn't pretty" & he turned his back to us & started to suck on the lemon & then turned to us with this exagerated cringe on his face. Hilarious!

Glad you enjoyed yourself so much, but did you have any doubt that you would? It's Glenn!
