Here's Maisie lounging around in the sun today...

We need a 'caption this' for pets! She's wondering why you always have that goofy thing in front of your face, and she wants to tell you that unless it dishes out tuna, it's useless to her.

Awww, Abb(e)y is such a darling!! I just want to smooch with her...

Took my dogs to the beach this weekend. There's an inlet where they swim, and the depth varies with the tide. As she's so small Eden has to do lots more swimming than Sparky (which is great, it tires her out nicely). I threw their toy in and Eden got to it first and was swimming back to me, meanwhile Sparkles had already bounded back and was waiting with me - he saw her swimming her little heart out still so jumped back in, grabbed the other end of the toy and towed her in! :hilarious:

My little Bailey is a week in recovery. She got spayed last tuesday and still has 6 stitches in her belly that will come out in another week. It took her a few days to be back to her normal self. She was very tired and it was easy to see that she was hurting when I first picked her up from the animal hospital. Usually she follows me into every room but for about 2 days she just layed in her soft little bed. Now she's back to her happy, loving, cuddly self. I know she'll feel even better when she gets those stitches out.

Thanks, Cathy. I wrestled with idea of breeding her the past few months. I've had many people tell me that they would love to have one of her puppies if she ever had any. Even my family almost had me talked into it but in the end I decided against it. I did some research and decided that it was best for me (and Bailey) to not go thru with it. 2 years ago I never expected to have a dog at all but here we are. It is true what they say that pets are like your kids. She has definitely become my child.

Maisie went to the vet again on Friday as the sores on her neck and cheek are still not clearing up. They are better, and some days they look as if they are healing well, and then she will start scratching at them again and they look awful. The vet is a bit baffled (although he says it is a common occurrence in cats) because she is an indoor cat and she only eats hypoallergenic food. Anyway, he gave her another steroid shot which will last for six weeks, but told us to contact him if it's no better in a week. He said it could be associated with the status of her FIV, but he just really doesn't know. Fingers crossed that she will get better. I should say that she is fine in all other areas - she eats and drinks extremely well and seems happy, energetic and content. I hope she can stop scratching long enough for these sores to heal.

Prettymaid
07-07-2013, 08:21 PM
Troub, it must be hard to see your baby with itchy sores. I wish your vet had a better idea of what it was and how to treat it. At least she's happy and content. I hope they heal.

Thanks for the comments on Bailey. Even with the stitches still in, she's pretty much back to her normal self. The first sign was her running her little "happy laps" around the coffee table when I got home from work this past Wednesday night. The appointment is made for tuesday afternoon to get the stitches out.

Austin, Abby is sooo adorable. Love that pic of her.

Today is the one-year anniversary of our "adoption". After Superstorm Sandy, we fostered my sisters two yorkies as they were displaced from their home for six months. Biggie and Boo Boo love their new home and I love having them -- most of the time, :fingerwag: but not when they are bad boys!!

HH, your little doggies are adorable!

VA - Milton has a bad habit of hissing at strangers who visit my apartment. If Dreamer walked too closely by, or stepped over him, or approached his food dish... that kind of thing was all it would take. Conversely, when he felt like it, he would rub against her leg. He's kinda bipolar, but I love him anyway!

Dreamer, I hope your little pup is thriving, and that Milton behaves better when you next see him!

GA, thanks for liking the pic, and the kits are indeed by a Lego model of Tower Bridge. Me and son Phil needed a project last winter and spent a few happy evenings building it.

That's cute, MF. It kinda reminds me of my Smuggler. He has a pet door that has hard, thick, plastic flaps. Here recently when the weather has been so cold, he can't decide if he wants to be indoors or out. So he just lays at the pet door and pushes the flap open with his snout letting the cold air in. Even though he's very cute lying there in uncertainty, I'm like - umm, I don't think so, buddy ... either in or out!

And here he is in his Christmas present which is a heated cat bed we call "The Hotbox." It must feel good on his old bones. The sides are supposed to be up, and there is a roof, but he is too big for it, so we just leave it open and he spills out in every direction.

Congrats on your new little one!

On Friday, my cat seemed to be in pain. I thought it was his arthritis and I gave him a little pain medicine prescribed by the vet. It helped and he is no longer limping or crying, but he's barely eaten all weekend and hasn't used his litter box (or gone anywhere else) and has done nothing but lie on my bed at night and my couch during the day. He loathes the vet here and goes ballistic to the point of having to be sedated when we visit, but I will take him anyway if this keeps up.

Yes - my parents were here all week and it's not unusual for him to eat less when stressed. Although he's used to my parents, he was displaced from his spot on my bed (my mother gets my bed when they visit) and his spot on the couch (dad gets the couch because my bed hurts his back). We spent a lot of time hanging curtains and pictures which meant a lot of noise. However, they went home Saturday morning and he still hasn't bounced back. I'll keep watching him and keep you guys updated.

So Milton is back to eating and pooping normally. I think it was the pain medication that took away his appetite - I guess it took longer than I thought to get out of his system.

It's so difficult. I hate to see him limping when his arthritis acts up, but the pain medication obviously causes problems, too. The vet said you can't use it long-term anyway, because long-term usage damages the liver.

I wish I could do something more for him. :(

Awww, poor baby. How old is he?

MaryCalifornia
03-20-2014, 08:48 PM
Soda, my Hobbes has arthritis on the base of his spine, near his tail, and the vet told me it is perfectly safe for cats to crush one half of a low dose, human aspirin every day and put it in his food. She said don't go on the internet to research it, because you'll see conflicting information. When I do it for him, I do see a difference, he is more comfortable. I cut a low dose aspirin in half along the perforation, crush it between two spoons, and sprinkle it in wet food. You should ask your vet about this, supposedly it is safe long-term (the narcotic pain medicine makes him insane, I think he hallucinates)

Copper

She's a Pixie Bob (about 15 years old), He's a short haired cat of some kind (not sure what you call them, tabby I guess) about 6-7 years old. :hilarious: They love each other and Copper in particular is "my" cat. He's the one that sits with me mostly. Sable is very independent and other than Copper, doesn't socialize much and not with people.

For sure. I love dogs, but I'm a cat person at heart... I like them both equally but I find myself associating more with cats.

We have 4 dogs - I'll try to get pics of them soon.

Awh love the kitty cats!
My poor Odie Dog had really bad arthritis and we had to give him pain killers from vet. So sad still miss his sweet blue eyes.

But now I am being ran crazy with my new furbaby who is now 9 weeks and killing me. He drank about 1/4 cup of coffee that my daughter left on the floor this a.m. He just now settled down! Thank goodness. He is a loverboy though. I'll upload pic's soon

I KNOW!!! We sing it all the time now! It doesn't even make sense - is it from a real song? "You're in demand, my little [insert pet name here]..." Would you die if you left that on a professional colleague's voicemail? Glad you liked it.

lol! I can relate! I definitely sing to my cat, but I usually change words to fit a couple lines from random songs.

[To the tune of "Edge of Seventeen"]
"Just like the black-and-white cat, sings a song, my precious Milton - meow, meow, meow!"

[To the tune of "Desperado"]
"Precious Milton... your mommy loves her sweet baby!"

I could go on but I'll stop. Judge away! lol

P.S. "Precious" is my nickname for him; sadly, it has been stigmatized by The Lord of the Rings.

Quick update on Milton: maybe it's the warm weather but he seems to be feeling a lot better. His limp is barely noticeable, he's playing with his toys again, he eats / drinks well, and he no longer whimpers in pain every time he bends his foreleg to lie down.

Unfortunately, I found his revenge for my absence this weekend when I came home: he'd peed directly in front of the litter box. It's like "yeah, I could've gone in the box, just like you could've stayed home!" At least it wasn't on the carpet!

There another pic I took today of Copper....He's daddy's boy and so I get lots of pics with him. Sable is a bit of a recluse and isn't real social so I have to be lucky to get pics of her.

Over the weekend we bought a heating pad for cat beds and put it in their cat bed that they share and they LOVE it... Although it'll be warming up soon and may not need it but next winter they will certainly love it.

Aww GL!

My cat doesn't get into much but a funny Copper story is that he is a meat lover. If you have a big ol' juicy steak on your plate he will get up on the table, and sink his long claws into it and pull the steak off and eat it (well, he tries to :D) if you aren't careful! Any kind of meat - chicken, pork, beef, anything. He is a carnivore! He never gets on the table unless you have meat on your plate and then he will steal it.

LOL, Austin! My Copper's favourite is milk. He will stand on his hind legs & put one paw on the fridge, reaches up with the other & turn his head around to look pleadingly at me. My Katie is the meat lover. One smell of chicken & she is right up on the table.

Thanks for the compliment, MC. We haven't had much of the sun this winter.

LOL GL Copper likes milk too. Will drink it right out of your glass.

Another funny Copper story. One day I was having some powdered donuts and a glass of milk for breakfast. I had to go do something and when I came back I noticed my milk glass that I had just poured full was now only about 1/3 full. He had drank it!

I love cats though.

The way I see it dogs are usually gregarious and funny and goofy and social all the time and love everybody.... The cat is more independent yet smart like "Tell me what you can do for me and maybe we can make a deal".
