Zelda--- you get the kind of animals I do--the "rejects". Those are the ones that I love, the ones that need me. All 5 of ours are like that, they all started out with pretty rough lives but are living the high life now. :hilarious:

That said, we did a pretty good job of teaching Sparky not to jump up on the couch - he's just too big and we got him just after we got our new couches (a long-awaited purchase). The puppy, on the other hand... well let's just say that she jumped up on day 1 and now she thinks the couch is her launching pad through the front door!

Many of you know that Sparky and I have been learning agility for a while now... and we started competing last year. We had many, many months of frustration as he kept running out of the ring - but in March it all started coming together. One happy Mummy. :)

Our 6 year old cat Copper & 12 year old Katie have never gotten along too well. Katie is the boss of our 5 cats even though she was the 4th to arrive & is the smallest of the five. She didn't take too well to Copper's arrival & they would occassionally have a boxing match. Most of the time though, Copper was a bit timid of her.

Several months ago Copper became much more timid of Katie & started spending most of his time hiding in my closet. He also began staking his territory! We took him to the vet in hopes that there was a physical reason causing this change in behaviour, but he got a clean bill of health. The vet thinks that he must have had an altercation with Katie that caused this change in his behaviour. She recommended that we try to find him a new home in a single cat household.

I was heartbroken at the thought of having to give up my "baby", but it wasn't fair to him to have him be so afraid that he spent that much of his time in the closet & we couldn't have him continue to spray. The only other suggestion that vet had was to give him medication that was a derivative of Prozac, but she was very doubtful that this would have any effect on him.

I told her that we would try anything that might help so she ordered the pills. Well, after one pill he was a new cat! He became much more playful & stopped hiding in the closet! We had forgotten how playful he had been before. He is much more relaxed & as you can see in the picture below, he stretches out & sleeps on the sofa without a worry about Katie. He still acts a bit timid towards her at times, but only when he wants to. Other times he may just walk up to her & unprevoked, give her a swat!

gef - Thomas and Misty are both adorable. I'm sure they are well taken care of. And I also love your grandmother's china cat.

And I was originally told that Smuggler is a "Chorkie", which is a Yorkie and Chihuahua mix. However, I'm sure he has something else in him too, but I'm not sure what it is. I been thinking about getting a DNA test on him just out of curiousity, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I was originally told that he would weigh about 8 - 10 pounds, but he has held steady at around 14 1/2 pounds for about a year and a half now.

GEF, Jethro's coloring & markings do look a lot like Copper's. The kittens are absolutely adorable! My Lucky is all gray except for a little white button, just like Thomas. I usually wake up to at least two on the bottom of my bed. They don't leave much room for us.

So cute, the kitties with the china cat. Ours will sometimes sit by a big white china dog, but I haven't gotten any pictures.

GEF I love all your cats, and the black china one is really lovely! I would be very tempted to take on a cat, but last time I stayed with relations who had two both my brother and myself developed severe (what we thought was Hay Fever). We were staying in North Wales at the time and I went to a pharmacist in Liverpool who told us we were both allergic to cat hair! So while I can play wit them for a short while, owning a cat would not be an option.

My wee puppy Eden learnt to swim on Sunday! She looked so cute with all four legs flailing around. The first time was an accident (chasing after her much bigger brother who loves the water), but she went back in the water a couple of times, so she must have enjoyed it. :)

OK, so many of you may remember. When Hurricane Sandy struck, I began fostering my sisters two yorkies, as her short-term housing did not allow pets.
Well, it's been a long six months, sometimes challenging, sometimes rewarding, but --- after a TON of soul searching on both our parts (and tons and tons of tears) my sissy and I have decided that the "kids" are better off staying with me and hubby for the duration. I can not tell you how hard this was -- Sophie's choice comes to mind. She retains "joint custody" and will take them anytime I need -- like for every Eagles concert I plan and she gets birthdays and holidays. This picture was from one of their first nights here when everything was uncertain -- with no power, heat or sense of normalcy. They are very settled now and very happy.

I came home today so Maisie is one happy cat! I'm having lots of lovely cuddles, although I am a bit concerned because the sore on her neck still hasn't cleared up completely and she has started to scratch her cheek and near her eye (some of the fur has already come away.) It will be awful if she continues and the sore spreads, but it's so hard to stop her scratching. I think we will have to take her to the vet again on Monday. He may give her more shots like he did before. I swear, cats are their own worst enemies!

She's adorable though...

They are a unique breed lol. They are fasinating.. They can be oh-so-intelligent and smart one minute and the next like Dopey and braindead. :hilarious:. Not to mention they are very high energy and like to get into trouble. He's always on the hunt for something to get in to. He had surgery last year for mechanical blockage. He ate stuffing out of a pillow and a pack of guitar picks. He's very loving, but he's also very aloof too. It's the wishy-washy nature of the breed that make them interesting to me. Going from smart to not so smart, loving to independent and aloof, and so on.

His name is Gibson.

I am (was) so a kitty person. When I married, my hubby's step mom is deathly allergic to cats so I gave them up.

I was due to take my kits for their annual boosters today. Managed to catch them and put them in their carriers, only to find my back tyre was flat! Cancelled the vet's appointment and called the breakdown company who changed the wheel, and kindly agreed that I would never have managed on my own. Kits rebooked for tomorrow.

Lou, I feel for you with losing/finding Maisie! When we got our cats (8 1/2 years ago) we lost (then found) them the first night... I felt so bad, especially since it was our son's birthday and he had been so excited to have not just one, but two kittens. In the space of one day we had totally fallen in love. My father in law eventually found them inside a cupboard that they had accessed through a ridiculously small hole. They were curled up together fast asleep.
