I believe we have just finished "redbud winter" and should be going through another little cold snap soon, as soon as the dogwoods start blooming...funny b/c the redbuds always start blooming around race weekend at Bristol...and there was SNOW there a few years ago (had to red flag the Busch/NW race for it!!)

Another snow storm here today! Church canceled again! We've gotten around 6 inches since early this morning.

Around here, in early Spring, there's usually a warm spell, then a cold snap for a few days, then some shrub or tree starts blooming (last week it was the Pear trees, a few weeks before it was Redbud trees)...after the last two cold spells, temperatures should stay stable. :thumbsup:

Our "last frost" should hit somewhere around May 10-15...which makes sense, I was never allowed to wear shorts as a child until then...gotta love the country!! :lol:

I hate this time of year. I live in an older apartment building and they have to manually switch the whole building from heat to A/C at once. It's currently 85 degrees in my apartment and nothing I can do. I hate opening the windows because the allergy counts are off the charts too.

No matter how much the residents protest, they won't switch it over. No one needs heat when the low is 50 degrees!

Flood stage here! Thankfully I don't live near a river, but the storms and heavy rain took out the gravel road on both sides of small bridge that I have to cross to get to work. We have had over 6 inches of rain the last two days, most of it last night! Lots of high winds in a couple neighboring towns.

This road takes me to the nearest small town about 12 miles from my home:

There is a 20 foot drop on both sides of this road and the bridge over the river is up ahead behind the truck in the distance. The only time the water has crossed over this stretch of highway was in the floods of 73 and 93.

That's great Z! Here it has been overcast and in the upper 60's all day. We had a few sprinkles this morning, but that was it. Not an ideal weekend off for me, but we'll try again next time.

Although I get every Sunday off, I generally work every other Saturday. Next Saturday I have to work, but we're only open until noon. Not too bad of a schedule. I just wish the weather would cooperate more.

It was a lovely day here. It's funny, customers will come in to the bank and mostly talk about the weather. According to some of my customers today, it was hot and muggy, and others it was a beautiful day. I couldn't wait to get off work this afternoon to enjoy the end of the day on the deck.

I remember when I lived in Boulder, CO for a while, we always walked outside after lunch to go back to our building. The IBM facility there was huge, so it was a long walk from the cafeteria. I thought it felt great outside and thought about taking the afternoon off and lounging by the pool at my apartment building. All those walking with me were complaining about it being humid and uncomfortable. I watched the news that night and the weatherman was calling it a humid, uncomfortable day as well. 19% humidity. I laughed my head off. It was amazing, though, to return back to VA and PA once a month and see the difference in the trees and grass. Everything in CO looks kind of brown compared to here in July. Of course, they have real mountains that are incredibly beautiful (and cowboys in tight jeans and boots).

Va, it's actually not raining here either! We are way above normal for rain this year after last summer's drought! Weird how the climate can change from year to year. Here at work we are actually building a new waterline to help us pump more water to a certain area that we had a hard time with the demand for last year! No problem yet this year! Wouldn't ya know! But we will be prepared!

We are having to mow the yard every 4 days and yes, it's very green! The farmers have been having a hard time getting the crops in because it rains every day and the hay is way past needing to be cut! At least it seems we are warming up. 80's and 90's this week. Finally!

The weather and I are not on good terms this evening. Add in incompetent airlines and it's not a pleasant story. Let's just say I got on a plane in Louisville and got off at Dulles and I'm still soaking wet. We touched down in Charleston, WV due to storms at Dulles and not enough fuel. We had to hike to the terminal and as we hiked back, the skies opened up. Everyone was dripping wet.

Well this year here is the complete antithesis of last year when it rained for much of the summer. Last year was the wettest summer on record. This year however we have had almost continuous wall to wall sunshine since early June, and the good news is that apart from a few threatened thunderstorms next week, there is no real let up forecast.

A hosepipe ban looks like its on the cards from next week so it's as well I got the car washed yesterday!

Of course we are having beautiful sunsets too as an added bonus.

I thought of texting Austin last night as I was going to bed and hated to try that late. I see he has posted on Fb, this morning, so he must be ok! I'm sure he was very near to some of these awful winds.

Yesterday afternoon my husband and son decided to go deer hunting as the winds had died down quite a lot. It had been a terrible weekend for hunting with the high winds. For those of you that don't know, they put tree stands up and sit in them for 3-4 hours of a morning and evening. High winds just don't make it enjoyable at all! They went Saturday morning and then didn't go Saturday evening or Sunday morning because of the wind. It subsided last evening so they went. It even got very still and quiet about 5 pm. Well, just before dark the wind picked up all of a sudden and the sky turned black. I was in the kitchen and heard it start blowing and went outside on the deck to take a look. There were very bad looking clouds moving across the sky and even a funny, foggy look to them. I hoped the guys had gotten down from their stands and were coming in, but even that is dangerous to do with limbs falling in the woods. All of a sudden there was my son and he asked if Dad made it in yet. No. We waited a couple minutes and then he came out of the woods. He said he was the most terrified he had ever been! As he was climbing down from his stand the wind began to roar. He called our son and told him to get in a ditch, he thought there was a tornado coming. Then it turned black and he couldn't see anything at all. He was disoriented and couldn't figure out which way to go or find a ditch to lay down in. He thought he was headed home and finally just ran as fast as he possibly could through brush and trees, carrying a rifle and in bulky hunting clothes trying to get home and finally made it! He thinks he was under a tornado, but there was no real damage around him. Just the awful sound and wind. Thankfully, both of them made it ok! Very scary!

Yes in Peoria there were some very bad tornadoes and bad weather. What is scary is we had planned to go to Peoria that morning but that got cancelled for something unrelated.

Glad to hear everyone's okay. I worried about WF too when I heard about the Peoria, IL area. After VA texted me (thank you Verna) I texted TBF and she was fine, just bored like me with the power being out. Our power outage lasted from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m.

We did have a little damage when a large tree branch fell onto our deck railing. It's nothing compared to the devastation others experienced. My thoughts go out to them now.

I know that we Floridians are wimps, but it is going to be 42 Thanksgiving morning. It will actually feel like holiday weather for us. Normally it is in the 80's and we have to run the AC all day because the oven makes it to hot.
