Okay, here's the thread we've all been waiting for! This is where you can ask questions and hopefully get good advice on how to get good tickets. Maybe someone can explain VIP tickets, presale and regular tickets.

Hubby and I are still on the lookout for tickets for Louisville, and we will be trying for Indy, too. We can't afford VIP, so we are always looking for the best deal, without having to spend the equivalent of a mortgage payment. We are willing to spend $300/$350 per ticket. Any advice for us?

Since tickets at Louisville are already on sale, you are limited to what may or may not drop from Ticketmaster in the coming days or going through a resale site. For resales, seatgeek will show you what seats are for sale and what website to find them on. It also gives a green, yellow, or red symbol to indicate if they think the average resale price in a section is a good value, so-so value, or bad value. The link below is for the Louisville concert.

Also, I'm not sure what you consider to be a 'good' seat, everyone is different. The best seats left at the arena are terrible in my opinion, the Official Platinum on TM has some good seats left, but are more expensive. I saw a floor seat, row E on the outside, Joe's side, for $594.00 a ticket. The price could come down or someone else could buy them, it's a gamble.

I have my ticket to see Paul Mccartney at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Got it presale. The seat is row 11, 1 section from the stage on the side. Checked to see what might be available near me for my neighbor , nothing worked out but you can get front row for $2,333.00 on one of the web sites. Just found out 2 of my former co-workers are going to. The 3 of us saw Paul ( we went together ) 20 years ago. We are going to go together this time too. I think my seat will be pretty good. I am also going to see Tom Petty again in two weeks. I got it as a link thru his fan club; 12 rows from stage at the old verizon center. However , the only tickets for The Eagles in Louisville were only available for two; finding one on the floor-forget it for now. The ticket I have is on the side, 2nd section from the stage about 15 rows up. In 2011 I paid $325 each for 2 tickets and got 4th row by Timothy; got those the day they went on sale because I was having knee surgery 2 days later and wanted to be sure I had tickets. This year's Eagles ticket cost me $213.00. I guess my answer is you need to be rich.

So you guys definitely recommend having an American Express card?

VAisForEagleLovers

I do, actually, and for more reasons than concert tickets. As I said somewhere else here, I got one to get presale tickets for LROOE, but it quickly turned into my favorite credit card and I use it like cash. If a place doesn't accept AmEx, I let them know I'll shop elsewhere next time.

It couldn't hurt! Amex has four cards available with no annual fee so you really have nothing to lose. All you need is a decent credit rating.

Also, check TM on some of the venues. Some have additional presale types, like radio and whatever, that start on Thursday or Friday. Sometimes the additional presales are useless, sometimes they're pretty good.

Don't think the Am Ex general sale is the best you're going to get, though. I've noticed that the Am Ex block for the general sale are typically 20 rows back at best, and better ones typically come up in the regular general sale.

TM Is getting much harder to predict, though. They're making a lot of changes.

But if all of the good seats up front are held back for VIP, radio stations, band members, etc..., how and when would any of these be made available in the regular sale? :-(

But if all of the good seats up front are held back for VIP, radio stations, band members, etc..., how and when would any of these be made available in the regular sale? :-(

Seats that are left after the VIP and presales are put back into the general sale. Official platinum seats are mixed in with the VIP, radio, internet presale seats and are more expensive but available at or soon after general sale begins.

I got 2nd row on the LROOE tour in Louisville with official platinum and I got 5th row in Chicago through the general sale but WAY after sale began.
Not all good tickets show up right away. It's a crap shoot and you have to be persistent and check TM as often as you can. As an example, for the Pittsburgh show, Floor Seats Row K (Row 10 because there is no Row "I") just popped onto the official platinum listings within the last week and were going for $348. If you bought them, you'd be surrounded by people who paid either $625 for rows 2 - 10 or $400 for Rows 11 - 20.

So in the general sale if you can only come up with row 15 on the floor or high in the lower bowl would you wait for something better to possibly show up? Being short even row 10 on the floor is gonna be a trial for me to be able to see. I just can't afford more than $200 per ticket to do these vip's.

Hubby has enough $ to get "The Good Seats" but I told him, even tho I love him for the sentiment, I will just be happy to be in the building. I did tell him that if possible, I would like the left side of the stage. I will be taking binoculars

There's no guarantee that something better will become available. If you find seats early on in the general sale that are decent, then I'd grab them.

I used a ticket broker to get in for St. Louis as we didn't have AMEX and didn't want to wait til the general sale. We used a site that we used back in 2008 for my first Eagles show (this one in Oct will be my 2nd). I got 4th row in the center part of the floor (Floor B). Not sure which side of the center section I'll be on but as soon as I get seat numbers I'll post them. I'm hoping for as close to the right as possible. ;) 4th row was as close as they were selling and at the price, I couldn't pass it up. I could have done the VIP thing but I just want to see the band and it's not like there are backstage passes or anything.

I'm just looking forward to seeing them again and not wearing those damn suits! :hilarious: It looked soooo corporate. So glad to see them wearing more casual clothing. :D

Brooke, If you get seats on the side, in the first section closest to the stage, first level up...you can see really well.
I got seats there for a Who concert recently, & I was able to move up to the front of the section..I was sitting right by the guitar techs, & it was very close. Awesome seats, because I am also short, & when people stand up on the floor, you can't see a darn thing...These 1 level up are above all the standing people. I had these at the Garden, but I would try for these seats at any venue. Thought they were great! They were level with the front row, just on the side!

Actually, I had front row floor over to the side for the concert in Vegas in 2011 and I'd say that the seats you just described, TK, even though they are further away are better seats. You don't have to sit with your head turned all night.

Yes, in these large venues the stage is on a platform about 5 or 6 feet off the ground, so my seats were actually level with the stage...

They were like PERFECT. I was able to see sitting & standing up.

The first 20 rows are the VIP seats which go from like $400- $1,000. AMEX presale is not going to get anything from there.
I haven't had any luck with the Amex pre-sale because I found that after the pre-sale there were better seats available in the same price range. I think it's all a matter of luck....a real hit & miss. You can keep trying for seats everyday & crummy seats come up, then one day some really good seats will come up. It's a crap shoot out there!

VIP doesn't use all the seats in rows 1 through 20. It varies by venue, but I've seen anywhere between thirty and 150 at the VIP dinners, which is rows 1 - 10. The venue with 150 had about 50 to 55 seats in the first three rows and 45 thereafter. I've also seen seats in the first 20 rows up for resale and VIP can't be resold.

VA, I have seen rows 10-20 in the VIp, "Fan Package" deal, which doesn't include the dinner, but the resale seats may be on the sides, not the middle, which I think are the Fan Package $400 seats!!!

I also ended up with a front row seat for AC show & didn't buy a VIP ticket. The people next to me paid the $995 & I paid $280. It was on the side a little, but it was Timothy's side so it was all good for me! That ticket was purchased 2 days before the show, because I wasn't even going to go, but when that seat came up. I had to go!! You never know what seats are going to come up, even at the last minute. that was my lucky day!

Better than winning in the casino! They were great concerts that weekend, that's for sure.

I'm super glad the $995 price for front row was a temporary lapse into insanity for VIP, and they are back to the more reasonable $895. Cough.

I'm pretty disappointed with my seats for St. Louis but after trying constantly and finally waiting till I got to the United Center for tickets a couple months ago for Fleetwood Mac, I just couldn't take doing that again. I wanted to go for sure and would have been heartbroken to have missed out on a ticket. But I just can't pay the high prices on the scalper sites.

I'm amazed at some of the good seats people have gotten in the general sale. How did you do it? Fp, you came up with good seats every night you went recently.

That was Glenn, not the Eagles, and I did pre-sale, not general sale. As it happened I thought the Melbourne seat could have been better as could the first Opera House seat.

However, back when I last saw the Eagles in 2010, I had front row for three out of the four nights & I'm still not sure how I managed that. Again I think I did pre-sale.

Not for amex presale. For VIP I have to get in and out in under a minute.

There is no rhyme or reason to the availability of good seats -- either amex presale or at the beginning of general sale. It's a crap shoot. Remember that the people who get in before you have five or ten minutes to complete their sale. If they dump out before completing the transaction then those tix go back into the pool at about 15 minutes in. I also never select "best available". If I want floor seats I specify floor seats.

The best seats I've gotten on general sale were Row H Joe's side in Vegas. I bought them 20 mins after general sale started (but I was online for the entire 20 checking and rejecting seats).

I'm still a big fan of official platinum seats but I NEVER EVER buy them when they are first released. Better seats will become available at a better price. That's how I got 2nd row on the center aisle in Louisville in 2010 and 4th row Joes side in Chicago.

It takes patience and perseverance but it can be done!!!

Brooke, I'd keep checking TM right up to the day of the concert. If better seats pop up, you can sell your tickets for what you paid for them plus stub hub's 10% fee. You don't have to price gouge like scalpers do. Good Luck!

Ive always been a dreamer
06-12-2013, 10:02 PM
Buying tickets is all just a crap shoot from my experience. There is no rhyme or reason to it most of the time unless you are going for VIP tickets. Hell, if we could figure it out, we'd all be in the front row! I think your best bet is to be very diligent and check TM very frequently, but many of us don't really have time to do that. I do think you stand a little bit better chance of getting better tickets closer to the show dates. :brickwall:

ETA: OMG - When I posted this, I had not read HH's last post. We basically said the same thing. :hmm: like minds I guess. HH - I'm not sure which one of us should be the most scared!

I've thought about doing that, but the last time I did that I lost money on my tickets I sold......can't remember who that was at the moment!

I had been having computer issues at home and I could tell that I might have problems about 10 minutes before the sale started. TM wouldn't load completely so I jumped in my car and drove up to work where we had also been dealing with a new computer, but I knew it would work for this and had a faster connection to dsl (just 2 miles away) and I didn't make it in the very first minute. Maybe 3 minutes after. But I checked tickets for 20 minutes and finally bought the last time-the best ones I had come up with.

I'm just not going to pay inflated prices anymore. To me, $200 per ticket is too much. Someone has to sit in those seats and people seem to enjoy the concerts even from the rafters so I guess I'll have to be one of them. I've seen them several times and to just be in the building will have to be good enough. My tickets aren't that bad. I might check on new tickets on TM from time to time, but I do not want to get stuck with $400 worth of tickets. Hubby would kill me!

Hubby has noticed that a certain section at a certain venue has multiple tickets for sale in the same row on StubHub, Vividseats and Ticketmaster Platinum. There's no way that row has that many seats. Are the same tickets allowed to be sold on multiple broker sites for different prices? And can the exact same seats be on both TicketMaster Platinum AND a broker site for different prices?

Yes and Yes. They did the same in Pittsburgh I noticed. A row with only 6 seats was on SH and TM Off Plat, all six seats. Actually, SH had 8, and TM was very confused when I called them to let them know there was a mistake. They fixed it, though.

If you offer instant download or electronic you need to be quick about getting them off all the sites when they sell on another. When I sold tickets for a friend in St. Louis (Bob Seger) I only listed on SH because I didn't trust myself to be so quick.

Hi Rick! Good to hear from you. Good luck with your tickets. As far as ticket brokers, I assume you've tried all the usual suspects, Stub Hub, Ticket Liquidator, etc. I'll leave it for others to advise you. You might just get lucky the last week before the show, when brokers start frantically dropping prices to unload their tickets. If you can wait that long. That's the trick.

I can't stand waiting until the last minute for tickets. The only time I
do that is if I have some less desirable ones already purchased.

Nashville is infamous for having a crapload of the best seats comped out to music industry people. That's why even the brokers don't have them. :( I wouldn't be surprised if the reason that the VIP sold out so quickly was that the seats allotted for the VIP were less than usual thanks to all the music industry comps. My friend who got a degree in music management in Nashville says the amount of comps is even greater than in LA!

So, have you guys ever gone with Ticketmaster's "Official Platinum Seats"? I know they're not the same thing as the VIP Nation packages - the ridiculously expensive ones. But I'm doing some research to try and get my mom to let my sister and I go for a second round of Eagles when they play in Rosemont, IL, and I just wanna know if I spring for these seats, if they'll be worth it. I mean, they're advertising 2nd, 3rd, 5th rows on the floor. Watching an Eagles show from the floor is basically the highest item on my bucket list, so I wanna make sure! ;)

To all those looking, GOOD LUCK and just keep trying. I've been looking for a DC ticket for months checking SeatGeek, Stubhub and Ticketmaster constantly. A single on the side of the stage popped up this morning on TM and I snagged it. The same section is going for twice that on Stubhub.

We let some good Platinum seats get away from us for Louisville, just by procrastinating. They weren't floor seats, but they were a better value than what we ended up with from Stub Hub. Remember, TM has no hidden costs anymore - the price you see is the price you pay. SH has pricey handling fees. They even charged us $16 for next business day delivery. We ordered our tickets on a Friday and got them on Thursday. :eyebrow:

Reading some of this thread and I just read the MSG thread and it just makes my head hurt. I can't imagine having to put that much thought, effort and time into trying to get tickets-- but that's just me. It really is a huge shame that it has become such a game and a gamble. Just not right, in my opinion. It just drives me nuts--especially for the prices that are being paid.

I got lucky for one of my shows in the LROOE tour playing the waiting game & got fantastic tickets just where I wanted them and for only about $15 a ticket over face value. But I also had my mind set that if those kind of tickets didn't just fall into my lap, I simply wasn't going. I checked once a day and that was it. Just don't have the patience for the games.

It's so difficult, I'm determined to go to the Dallas show but I haven't been able to find a good seat. I don't want to do scalpers or VIP, I can't afford that.

Tough luck for me I guess.

Don't give up HD! Try & be patient (easier said than done) & keep checking. I will keep my fingers crossed & prayer said that something fantastic comes up for you!

Like HB said, just keep checking. My persistence paid off when a single ticket popped up for DC last week on Ticketmaster. Just check the sites once a day if you can and you never know...

So today wasn't a good day for me :worried: I didn't have an American Express card, so I could not buy tickets in advance. I waited until 10:00 a.m. today eagerly awaiting the chance to click "BUY"...it never happened. I don't understand why or how, but almost every ticket was gone for the Knoxville, TN show before they ever officially went on sale. I had the option of paying $95 to be behind the stage or $95 in the upper balcony in the back corner. I don't care to pay a lot for these tickets, but I just didn't feel that was worth it. I'm just kinda confused on what went wrong here. I looked on StubHub and all of those other websites, and there are tons of overpriced tickets. I thought for sure if I was in front of the computer at 9:50 that I would be able to get something decent. Nope!

Don't give up hope Sunshine! Read thru this whole thread & you will get some great tips. Good tickets may be available later on, you just need to be persistent. I know you are really disappointed, but everyone here can tell you that it takes nerves of steel when pursuing Eagles tickets. I will keep my fingers crossed for you & prayer said.

I know what you are going through ss1234! The same thing happened to me when I was trying to get tickets for Toronto & Ottawa. I was even able to get in on the presale for Ottawa because they didn't go through Ticketmaster & therefore you didn't have to be an Amex cardholder. The seats offered in the presale weren't that good so I took the chance of waiting until the general sale as I heard that often you don't get the best seats in the presale. That gamble didn't pay off! The choice of seats was even worse & there weren't even that many available! :brickwall:

I consider myself fortunate that I was able to get good seats for the Montréal show in November! I got them through the presale which was also not through Ticketmaster and American Express.

Out of curiosity I checked the Toronto venue a short time before the concert to see if any good seats became available. There was the odd one that came up, but I wasn't able to wait till the last minute as I have to travel and therefore make arrangements well before hand. I wasn't going to spend all that money and not have a decent seat.

There is definitely many things wrong with this system. It certainly isn't fair to the loyal fans.

Good luck, Sunshine! Trying to obtain tickets for a concert can be such an frustrating endeavour... but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

They hold back full sections of seats because they want to sell out the back of the venue first. This is what I have found every single time. They want to make you believe that those are the only seats left, but nothing could be further from the truth. Even on Pre- sale, this is what they offer. Only other seats that may come up are on the floor in the last sections in the back (where you can't see). If you are persistent you may get better seats later on, but there is no guarantee that you will.

That is how I ended up buying not so great seats, just to be sure to get something & not be shut out of the show! It's all very unfair, but this is the way it is & nothing is really changing any time soon.

Thanks, guy! I'm not giving up! It's been a while since I've bought concert tickets, so I was kinda shocked on how that went. I thought it would be fairly easily to get them as long as I was ready when they went on sale. Nope! I'm going to keep trying!

Well, I wouldn't wait too long, especially if there is only one show at your venue. They may be holding seats for corporate clients, or media, but you really have no idea if any of these seats will open up later or not.
Good luck! Let us know how you make out

Well, I bought them today!!! I've been checking every single day and noticed there were more and more tickets being added, so I snatched them up today. Still not the greatest seats, but anything is better than nothing. Now, I'm getting excited!!! Too bad that I have to wait until November.

Hi Everybody--This is my first post. I have always been an Eagles fan, but admittedly not as loyal as I know most of you have been. I saw the History of the Eagles documentary and fell in love with their music--especially the Long Road Out of Eden. Now I am dying to see them live, and am thrilled that there are 2014 dates added! Hope to see them in Columbus. I am a fanclub member for another band, and am familiar with ticket buying for their concerts, but have read this whole thread looking for hints for the Eagles.

I don't have an Amex, but am toying with the idea of getting one (quick!). I noticed someone recommended seatgeek. I looked there and there are already tickets listed for this concert, though they have not gone on sale--through TN direct. Does that sound right? Thanks so much for any advice anyone can give.

Welcome, Deb!

Sadly, the brokers often get tickets before the general sale. It's an "inside job" as Don would say. :(

Oh--Thanks for answering!! This is such an interesting board--great pictures, videos, and concert reviews. Enjoying reading all of your posts.

Wondering whether there is an advantage to buying from a broker as have never done that for any concert.

Glad you like the board!

The advantage of brokers is that you don't have to deal with the crap shoot involved with getting good tickets off of Ticketmaster. If I were you, though, I'd wait until the general sale. Try your luck. If you're not happy with anything you get and you don't want to keep checking back over a period of months, then think about going the broker route.

The band also sells VIP tickets (see this thread (http://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4691)) - they're pricey, but at least the money's going to the band and you get some perks along with your good seat.

Thanks alot! Good to know. I guess that does make sense, to try the general sale first--I was just worried about getting totally shut out. I had looked at all the tour dates, and they were not coming any closer to me than Indy--but by that time Indy had very few decent tix and all through brokers. So the Columbus date is wonderful news to me!

I have been used to dealing with the ticket stress that comes with fan club sales through another band forum--I think that might be worse than TM.

Soda--Thanks so much for your good advice! Just got tickets through the general sale (tried Amex presale last night, and the tickets were awful). Am SO excited! I got lower bowl, which is just what I wanted!!

Great news Deb! I'm glad you got the seats you wanted. I know you're going to enjoy the show. My advice now is to hang around here - the pre concert anticipation is a major part of the thrill!

Old thread and we won't be buying Eagles tickets anymore, but on The Today Show there was a new Rossen Reports about how hard it is to get concert tickets these days.

Not really anything we didn't suspect, but interesting still!

I saw that report, and I really hope they can clean up the present system but I doubt that will happen - too much $$ involved!

I've never mastered the art of getting good seats; what's the secret? I was hobbled with the Eagles (and The Police) by not having an American Express card.

A happy exception is an upcoming Brian Wilson concert, for which I bought a VIP package. I've loved the Beach Boys forever. My inner child is joyfully squealing, "I'm going to meet Brian Wilson!"
