I would be thrilled to hear that setlist.

My personal preference would be for some LROOE songs, but to be fair they did perform those recently, and are adding back in a lot of songs that haven't been heard for a while.

Funny that as I read through it I was thinking "Oooh, Julie will be happy about NKIT, Austin will be happy about Already Gone... and everyone will be over the moon that Tim has some leads" etc etc.

So who played bass for the first 3 1/2 sets???? If this description is accurate, does anyone else think its too bad that Joe and Timothy were kept off stage for ALL of those songs in the first 3 sets that they have been playing for over 35 years?? I know its the "history" of the Eagles, but I would have been really confused/disappointed if the concert was into its 4th set and we hadn't seen these two! They sang all of those songs without Tim's harmonies?

Update - cancel this - just saw a set list on another site and Tim and Joe come on early.

Looks and sounds like an amazing show...
I have to say, from my personal viewpoint, knowing with them having played here in 2012, the chances of them returning are pretty slim, so I am really hoping for a DVD/Blu Ray release of one of the shows on this tour. And seeing that its such a different setlist to F1 and includes Bernie, you have to imagine that is definitely on the cards...

Oh my goodness! I love what I have women up to this morning.,sounds like a very interesting and new set list, but with many of the staples that so many people come to hear still included too. Personal delights are the return of NKIT and AG, both of which I have only seen once live at the first Eagles gig I was at.
Also I love 'Saturday Night' and am delighted to hear it too is included.

Cool that Glenn  dedicated TITTL to Randy too - makes him included in the whole HOTE show at some level.

Thrilled that TBS is back singing.

Just sorry that nothing from LROOE was included. Maybe they don't feel it has achieved the status of the other albums. Also I guess it does not feature on the DVD so not terribly surprised.

And Glenn  in peach........ That I can't wait to see!

Hope everyone had a wonderful night! I cannot wait until November. It's a long way away but I'm so happy that I will actually get to see this new show that it doesn't matter.

The guys look really casual & comfy in the outfits they chose to wear. I think it was a bit more casual than I was expecting, but they have to be comfortable. I wonder if it was as hot in Louisville as it was here in NYC.

Thanks TT! I love these videos. I'm pretty quick at finding them (videos), but not so quick on other news. But I'm a YouTube addict so I know how to search on that site. :hilarious:

I have to say I actually like the semi-acoustic version of Heartache Tonight. Joe threw in some new slide parts too. Maybe this was the "songs that have new arrangements" that DH was talking about in that recent interview?

They still have Joe on electric slide but it's given me inspiration to do a version of it acoustically when I play my festival this summer.

Joe and Tim came out during the first set - don't know what that guy was smoking who didn't notice them. It was just Glenn and Don for Saturday Night, then Bernie came out for Train Leaves Here This Morning, then Tim came out for the third song PEF, then Joe for the fourth song WW. Bernie stayed out for the entire first half but left for most of the second, returning for the second encore. He was featured during TIE, playing the solo.

Gotta check out now but more details after the drive home.

Quickly: The show was close to perfection for me. Just wish there had been a song from LROOE. Otherwise my mind was blown with the level of awesomeness I experienced last night. Waiting til October to see them again will be so hard.

Everyone must find a way to go if at all possible! This show is EPIC!

Thanks Soda for the report and Walshfan for the videos! I've downloaded all of them to watch later, before they go away :-)

Sounds like the show was simply amazing. Not that I'd expect anything else from them. I love the setlist and besides a few "fantasy" songs that I'd love to hear, but know they will never play, it's pretty close to a perfect setlist to me. I am beyond excited to see this show now. 9 sleeps for me until Philly!

Thanks to all for your reporting and updates on this show. Fantastic!

Let me help out a bit here before the 8 Borderers that were there last night give us the DEEP details----My source (she'll let you know who she was later :hilarious:) was freaking AWESOME with her updates (86 text and 13 pics) :hilarious:. I'm sorry I didn't keep it all updated here but we were having a cookout and I was getting abuse because I was coming out of my seat while reading some of the info.

What they were wearing, generally----because I gather there were changes--
Glenn in blue shirt over a white shirt
Don in his favorite gray work shirt
Joe unbuttoned blue shirt over black v neck t shirt
Timothy maroon shirt and jeans

As for who played base beginning of show Timothy came out at PEF and then Joe joined at Witchy Woman. They were on stage most of the night. Bernie was on off and on.

I about freaked out when I got the message that Timothy was playing harmonica and then again when I got the messages that he was singing ICTYW and LWKUA!!! And Those Shoes!!! OMG!!!!

She also said there were some subtle changes in some of the arrangements. And how cool is it that the were sitting on amps at one point, performing? WOW!!!!

Understand Joe was his usual funny self-saying something like, when they broke up he never quit. He was the only member until they all joined again. :hilarious:

My "source" :hilarious: was thinking of us---when they played NKIT, she said she was thinking of Julie and when HC started, I got a text saying she was thinking of Austin.

I've got to add that the only 2 things, off hand, that I would change would be to include something from LROOE--I think that is HUGE and I was really hoping they would change Desperado at the end and make it TIE but if that's the worse of it, I'm fine with that!!

It just sounds like it was an experience like no other and I can't imagine how high everyone must be over this!! Hope everyone going tonight gets a similar experience.

I thanked her over and over and over again last night, but I just want to do it again. I am beside myself with the fact she kept me updated last night and can't begin to tell her what it meant to me and how appreciative I am. Thank you!!!

Now I'm off to check out all the videos and pics!!! Thanks to everyone that was ON IT like you've been!!

The History of the Eagles concert was fabulous...

It starts out with only Glenn and Don with guitars singing "Saturday Night" then Bernie Leadon joins with them and sings "Train Leaves Here This Morning". Timothy and Joe as well as other musicians join them on "Peaceful Easy Feeling". There are taped monologues by Glenn and Don that provide the background story on the history of the Eagles. Glenn and Timothy did most of the "live" commentary. To my chagrin, Don said nary a live word, but he did "cut up" a bit on stage. They all seemed to be having fun, and enjoying making music together. In a interview with the "Louisville Courier Journal", Don seems to indicate this will be their last tour. They are adding dates and it will continue for at least 3 years, and at that time the band will be in their late 60's at which time he said it may time to say, "Adios!" However, last night they proved they still got it!

Seriously it was the BEST concert that I have ever seen them do and it is now taken over first place for me over their 1976 Hotel California concert. They seemed so fresh & reinvigorated, so much energy & so much joy in their faces. I loved when Bernie came out & Glenn & Don said "where you been?" & then Bernie goes " where have you guys been?" Too funny! I also loved seeing Glenn get tickled. I forgot what song, but they were showing a video of Joe dressed as Godzilla & Glenn turned & was watching it. He started laughing like he had never seen it before. He got so tickled he actually stopped playing for a few seconds & bent over laughing. I loved those moments & the great thing is that there were so many of those moments. I really hope that everyone gets a chance to see this tour. You can really tell that a lot of thought was put into the planning of the show.

I will post more of what I remember later but right now I am stll on an Eagles high!!

And it was made so special being with our fellow Borderers! HH & dh, PM & dh, Dreamer, Soda, Cheryl & Zelda - you guys are the best, crazy & fun & I am so glad that we got to share this experience together. I can' t wait to hear the reviews of today's show.:partytime:

86 texts!!! Who in their right mind would bug someone like that? ;-)

The beginning of the show was very pared down and intimate. There were several amplifiers on stage with a very basic drum set set up in front and to the left of the amps.

Glenn and Don walked out on stage to huge applause, picked up their guitars, sat down on the two most centered amps and did Saturday night. Glenn was wearing blue shirt with a white t-shirt underneath, and Don wore his standard gray workshirt.

Bernie came out wearing a blue Henley style shirt and a baseball cap turned backwards with sunglasses sitting on top...very casual. He grabbed a guitar and sat down on the amp to the left of Don and Glenn.

"Hi guys", he said.
"Bernie Leadon!", said Glenn, "Where've you been?"
"Where've YOU been?", replied Bernie.
Then they did Train Leaves Here This Morning.

By then I knew I was going to have a great concert experience. I felt like I was at a Jackson Browne show, as laid back as it was.

Almost every song, if not all, had a new arrangement. I especially noticed Heartache Tonight had dropped several keys, making it easier for Glenn to sing. There's no horn section in this show, which I appreciated. They went back to their roots, or as close as they can with a backing band. Everybody seemed to be having a good time onstage, as did the audience.

I can not wait to see this show from a better view! Next show for me is Indianapolis, October 18.

I wanted to remember this set list, so I thought, what better way to record it than in a series of texts to TBF. Then two of us benefit from it, rather than me just taking notes! Also, texting Willie the little details helped me remember them!

I thought it was interesting that Don played the small set of drums. I assume he went back to the larger set later? Or Scot played those?

I'm glad they aren't using the horns this time. Much more true to their roots.

what all do they have at the merchandise stands?

They had several t-shirt styles with the vintage look, such as Desperado, On the Border, Hotel California, etc. They had the jacket, keychain, small poster, bag & program. It was a pretty good selection from what I could see but the lines were so long, it was hard to see eveything. When I go to Seattle, I am going to go early & hit the merchandise stand first. I was just able to get a canvas bag & program & that was only because they had them at smaller seperate stands. They were $20.00 each.

One of the coolest moments for me in Louisville was realizing that Glenn was staying in my hotel!!!! I saw him get off the elevator with his security guys. It was @ 3:00 p.m. yesterday & from the conversation amongst the security they must have been heading to the venue. Then I head to my room & notice that The Seelbach Suite is right by my room. It had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door - LOL!
I didn't see any others. This morning I took the hotel shuttle to the airport & sat up front with the driver. He said he did not know what members were at the hotel but he knew some were there. He was a young kid & probably would not be able to tell one Eagle from another!

Honestly, I could tell something different in Timothy's voice on ICTYW. To quote a phrase he uses in the doc, it had a lot of air in it, especially when he had to reach up to the 'I can't tell you why' parts. On the other hand, several minutes later when he did LWKUA, his vocals were strong; but it's an easier song to sing.

Overall, he sounded fine, and if you didn't know that he had had surgery, you probably wouldn't notice anything. He looked relaxed and happy.

Thanks for updating us on Timothy's voice, PM. I'm glad he sounds pretty good. I love the fact that he played the harmonica, Neil Young style! Very cool.

I also have to add that this sounds like an absolutely incredible show, which an awful lot of thought, effort and preparation has gone into. I couldn't even assemble my own dream set list when asked to do so for fun, so goodness knows how the guys managed to settle on theirs! I think they've done a great job and managed to split it pretty equally. Let's just enjoy what is there, instead of bemoaning what's not.

Julie, I would have thought you would be bouncing off the walls after hearing that New Kid in Town has been added back into the set list! You were the first person I thought of when I read that morsel.

I am psyched about the inclusion of Those Shoes (HOT!) and the Doolin Dalton/Desperado Reprise. That song always makes me think of Kirshner 1974 and the cute, husky-voiced drummer with the mop of auburn curls singing it with such feeling... :smitten:

Well, to clarify, Timothy played the harmonica Neil Young style at his solo show in 2009. Last night he played it with his hands.

I am assuming Bernie will be at every show. This wasn't a walk on - he was on stage the entire first half, with the exception of the first song, and he was back onstage for the encores. His picture is also featured several times in the program.

Okay, can I just say this and be done with it? 70's Bernie always looked a little effeminate to me (not that there's anything wrong with that). Now, I'm not implying anything about his sexual preferences here; I'm just talking looks. But how can a man change from that to the handsome, masculine guy I saw last night? Amazing transformation!

I totally agree that he is very masculine - although strangely I've always thought it, even in '70s pics and videos. He always seemed a bit older, more mature and masculine than the others, to me. I know I've mentioned this before, but my mum absolutely loves him!

I'd say that was definitely the case. Even if he did want to stop and talk, that would just invite others to do the same and then he'd never get anywhere. Me, I'd have to apologize for becoming a trip hazard as I fell to the floor when my knees would go out from under me.

Nobody had a better time than Bernie. Nobody. It was so much fun watching him live in the moment, You could see the joy on his face and it was just infectious.

Let's face it. This concert tour is historic on so many levels. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would hear the songs I heard, the way they were arranged, the intimacy of the first part of the show and see Bernie Leadon play with the Eagles again. It really does take some time for it all to sink in.

I haven't stopped playing The Eagles or Joe at all today. Reading all the great reviews, watching all the videos and getting caught up in the excitement, fuels my own excitement to see them again. I just get to live vicariously through everyone here who gets to see them before I do. So a tip of the hat and a big thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences.

Yes, There is a very clear shot of Will behind Joe in the photo gallery I think Photo #22

The guys look really casual & comfy in the outfits they chose to wear. I think it was a bit more casual than I was expecting, but they have to be comfortable. I wonder if it was as hot in Louisville as it was here in NYC.

No it was actually very pleasant temps, and no rain! Kentucky has had rain for about 8 days in a row, but it stopped in Louisville qbout 4 hours before the concert!

Hubby and I went to the show, from Indy, last night. Our first Eagles show! We are 37 and 40, so on the younger end of the spectrum. Our seats were row B of sec 117 which was the closest to the stage not right at the side of it. They actually had rows A and B as set up chairs on the floor! Hubby was disappointed at first because he wanted to be elevated, but realized they ended up being amazing seats! We had a great view! Bad thing about seats that close was they were heavily enforcing the no pics or videos rule, so we didn't attempt. Thanks to the person who got the youtube videos!

I thought the show was GREAT! At first I didn't like the opening...seemed very uneventful when I expected something huge, but once I realized what they were doing, I appreciated it. They had a very small stage area with a black backdrop and some "utility" looking drop down lamps, walked out without a word, sat down and started playing. Once Don joined them he was on a very small drum set. They explained after the beginning how that setup was much like their rehearsal setting in California at the very start of the group. As the show progressed chronologically, so did the set.

As for the set list, I was happy with it. Hubby was very disappointed they didn't do any Don songs, but I told him it's the history of the Eagles! I would've loved some Don music, but I can see why they didn't do it this tour. Hubby was also disappointed in the sound. He was expecting absolute perfection as we're used to from the DVD's and blu-ray. There were a couple spots I noticed they were a bit off and not so tight, but not enough for me to be disappointed in the least. I told him I think he went in with expectations way too high and also that it was the first show of the tour!

Luckily we have tickets to the Indy show in October too - 10th row floor - so I'm excited to see how/if the show changes and /or perfects during that time.

Thanks, HH. That is so cool about Bernie. It must be truly SURREAL for him, and his family! Do we know if he and Felder communicate? It must have been so awkward when Felder joined and then Bernie quit and the nature of their long friendship was changed. Well, if they are still friends, I'll bet it is really awkward NOW!! I'm so happy they mentioned Randy, I think they would have had him do some singing if he were up to it.

I'm finally all caught up on this thread and the anticipation thread for this show. I'm so happy for those of you that were able to go to the opening show. What an experience to see the beauty that is the Eagles live with your very own eyes and ears.

I'm so excited about the new setlist and the addition of Bernie on this new tour. I went to 8 shows over a 4 year period during the LROOE tour and I had every song, comment and joke memorized at every show. I liked knowing what was coming up, oddly that built the excitement for me to know that those around me didn't know what song was coming next. I'm looking forward to the (sort of) unknown when I see the guys in October.

A few thoughts, I'm not a big fan of horns but was okay with the addition of the horn section during the LROOE tour. I'm kinda glad that they took out the horns for this tour. I think it'll sound more true to the original songs. I am a little dissapointed that there were no songs from LROOE. I would've at least thought they would play How Long. I love that song and it's pure Eagles all the way. They even did that song back in the day with the original four Eagles so I'm surprised to not see it in this set list.

From what I've seen/read so far, this tour is amazing and I can't wait to witness it for myself....Is it October yet?

Last decent concert footage I've seen of them was Farewell 1 from Melbourne (last time I they were in the UK was on LROOE about 2010 and Hop Farm last year but I couldn't make either) - just a quick question, do they still have the backing musicians from then? I know Steuart Smith is still with them and is pretty much an Eagle in all but law (sorry die-hard Felder fans!), but are Crago, Johnson and Hollis still used? Also, despite scrapping the Mighty Horns do they still use the violinist from them or has he gone too? Thought the violin added a bit to the Wasted Time Reprise and Peaceful Easy Feeling etc rather well.

I suppose one thing I miss slightly is Walsh and Frey not just doing guitars. Back in the 1970s Frey used to do TITTL, RMW, OOTN etc on piano and Walsh did electric piano on NKIT live (Felder did it on the record I think). Joe still does Wasted Time and ICTYW on organ (or did on Farewell 1) but I just miss Frey doing Desperado and instead having a non-member do it. I loved the History of... documentary DVD with the 8-song concert feature, just seeing the five of them do it all was wonderful.

I don't think they have that policy anymore... but it's a hard one to live down, lol, and I believe it still displeases Don when people stand during slow songs.

If you mind the photo being posted, I'll take it down.

I didn't know about that policy...still sounds strange at a rock concert to me, personally. I would have put me in a bad mood if one of the members of the band would have told me to sit down. From my point of view it shows a person's excitement for what the artist is doing at the time. Plus, it would have made me feel about four years old...and would have been devastating coming from someone you have idolized to so many years.

I don't mind the picture at all. I just thought it was a funny coincidence since it was taken before we all met,. I like photographic proof that I'm an Eagles fan!

Thanks, Prettymaid. You are WAY too kind! I would have loved to have met ya'll too. I know it may sound stupid, but I was so nervous and excited to see the Eagles, that I wasn't in my right state of mind! I don't know how the concert measured up to past performances, but it couldn't have been much better for me.

I know..It really is a small world. The man sitting next to my Wife and I at the concert was from my hometown, so funny how life is sometimes!

Can someone who was there tell me if Don played drums on any of the old songs (I guess not Those Shoes), what was HT like with Glenn playing acoustic & how was New Kid In Town vocally. Was Saturday Night still mostly sung by Don, guessing Glenn sang the 'tell me, oh tell me' part?

I have not been around because of endless problems setting up our new computer. I would just appreciate answers to those questions. If they have already been answered I apologise.

I'm afraid I can't help very much. I am not an attention to detail person, but it seemed to me that Don played the drums on a lot of songs, including the old ones. I thought NKIT was flawless. On Saturday Night, Don sang the verses and Glenn joined in on the rest.

I hope others can answer your questions better.

ETA: WF posted some YouTube videos, if you can view them. HT is on page 8.

Wow, there are tons of videos! Surprising to me since the guys are so adamantly against them! Evidently the camera Nazis are not doing their job! Hopefully I will get time to watch them before they are taken down!

Thanks for finding them and posting them WF! I want to see the Saturday Night one-have I missed it?

Wasn't it, "When we sit...you sit"
Maybe they don't announce it anymore, but I'm pretty sure that's how Don likes it...If your not up front, I guess he wouldn't care because he can't see you anyway! LOL

Oh geez, Fp! I got a new computer at work last month and there was nothing but trouble for a solid week! I feel your pain!

Did you notice Don playing the small set of drums in some of the videos? Too cute! Anyone know if he ever went back to the big set?

Oh come on!!! Are you never satisfied?

Oh OK. I posted that on my phone very quickly. All I meant was if Don could sing songs he hasn't sung since the 70s Glenn should have had one as well. Yes, I am happy about NKIT, AG & TS, but I cannot help being disappointed about LROOE. I'm sorry I said anything.

Sweet HB had a goody bag for all of us Borderers that included a bag of novelty M&Ms that had 'Eagles' on one side and the date of our show on the other, a bottle of 'Pink Champaign' scented hand sanitizer, a 'Classy & Fabulous' notepad and a DVD with tons of photos she took at the MGM Grand show in March, 2013. What a thoughtful gesture! Thanks so much HB! I am lovin' everything!
