PM, those are such lovely pictures of the Eastern Bluebirds. I'm a retired twitcher and have just had to check my database to confirm that I saw a beautiful male at Crystal River, in Florida 2005, where I also had the life affirming experience of swimming among manatees.

Brooke, that nest is so plucky, I do hope it is successful! Is it an American Robin?

VA, best of luck with the cicadas. It sounds like a nightmare.

I would guess it to be, but not positive.

And bluebirds are so beautiful. Love watching them fly around in our yard. We have a couple nesting boxes and they are always in them. A wren has taken one for the moment though. And are so chatty!

Don't ya just love it, Pm? I do! I've been collecting it for probably 15 or 16 years now. I started out with a set of 4 colors; rose, periwinkle blue, seafoam green, and apricot. Maybe 5 years ago I started adding colors. Love it! And it's made in America!

I grew up in Amish country here in Indiana and I still drive down every couple of months and visit all my favorite Amish markets. This past Saturday, I went but this time I took my sister in law and several nieces who are not familiar with the Amish. So I not only took them to the out of the way markets no one really knows about unless you're from around there, I also took them to one of the "tourist traps", Amish Acres. As we were coming out of the fudge shop, this guy caught our attention sitting on a railing of the second floor of the bakery. I thought he was so majestic looking, I had to snap a picture.

Google to the rescue!

It seems that it is legal to own peacocks in most states, since they are not native animals, but exotics. But you have to be something like 10 miles away from a city. It also says they're noisy and aggressive.

When I was living in California, there was a peacock no more than 3 minutes away from me. I would hear that peacock squawking all the time, but it was so cool. I would walk down there (where the bird was living) and saw that it would be out of the fence sometimes. LOL. Chasing it was fun. LOL.

They are noisy. That one let out a heck of a squawk when we were standing there.

I've heard they can be aggressive which I always found funny because the local zoo has always, since I can remember, had several of them on the grounds just running around. They seem pretty nice but I've never tempted them.

Well I ended up coming away from the auction with 2 Fender Mustang guitars from the 60s. A '65 in white, and a '66 in red. OMG they are nice! The red is in close to mint condition so it will be a wallhanger with just playing at home, the white rougher shape one will be a live guitar - in fact that's what I'll take next weekend to play Gold Dust Woman on - it nails it!

It was very cool! The penguins were so tame - obviously very used to being fed by people despite all the signs telling visitors not to do so. In fact one waddled up expectantly to the boardwalk where I was, and appeared none too happy when he realized I had no treats for him. lol

And yeah, too bad about the "Glen" misspelling - especially since it was the location of a golf course.

Well, I finally got my South Africa photos up!

http://s6.photobucket.com/user/sodascouts/library/SouthAfrica2013

Great pictures Soda... Glad you had a good trip. :)

We got back yesterday from a whirlwind extended weekend in the Eastern Cape, including a night at a 5 star luxury game lodge which was an amazing experience. It was Kirsty's birthday on Sunday and in the morning we went for an early morning game drive and among the amazing things we saw were two young lionesses playing and a male cheetah, lazing under the trees from just a few paces away... Seen them in zoos many times but this was pretty amazing!

With all it's faults this is my homeland and I love it dearly.

TBF, not at all! We only have 10 acres total. The pond is on a 6 acre tract. Yes it had lots of fish and we have done just that! The pond was too small for the fish it had in it and they didn't grow very big. We plan on starting over with crappy and bass. Catfish make ponds muddy.

And this is part of the reason I don't get to go to all the concerts I would like! Money spent on bulldozers and backhoes! But we enjoy having the property and fishing and having a small part of paradise. Our kids love it too! Priorities!

That does look like paradise to a townie like myself. Larry and I often think we wish we would have bought out in the country 25 years ago but then I need a loaf of bread and the store is only 3 blocks away. We've done our best to make us our own paradise in our small backyard here in town. Unfortunately, I can't catch dinner there. ;)

And you are right about the concert money and priorities. As I look at my new washer & dryer, the new privacy fence and our 4 rooms that are being painted and remodeled and know that concerts are not in the budget this year----- and you know what? I'm perfectly content with that!!

Well, my niece had a little bit of unanticipated excitement while she was at work today. She works in a busy outdoor shopping mall and she said they suddenly noticed a huge number of police cars and motorcycles, and black vehicles overtaking the parking lot. One of her co-workers went out to see what was going on and then she came back in to let everyone know. So they walked across the street for a photo op ...

It's a growing tradition but that is the first time I have seen it taken to that extreme. There are whole suburbs with houses covered in lights, including a suburb called Bonnet Bay not far from us. We drove down there one Christmas to look at it. There are some houses in our street which do this, but we don't. We put lights up inside.

By way of explanation Canberra, although it is the capital city, has a lot of wide open spaces around the houses so it isn't that difficult to use up that much space. The guy must have a high powered job related to politics or in a federal department.

My turn for the Baby pic. This is me with Thomas, one of my friends twins. He is now 6 months and I was playing with him while Mom fed Daniel his brother.

Thomas loved my Eagles guitar pick (around my neck). I was teaching him to say 'Eagles'. And I played him PEF on my phone. His Mom (Anne Marie) knows my obsession!

Priorities!

Neat pictures!! My grandma also sits on 10 acres. It's a lot of upkeep and thankfully my aunt and uncle have really stepped up and have made the ranch look beautiful again! I will share some pics! So neat to see people's places and flowers and just living life :)

Thank you, Bluefeather! It's been in our family for over 100 years. It's a beautiful place and honored to have this land in our family. We actually sold many acres to the park district about 16 years ago, so next door is a regional park for all to enjoy :)

I love taking pictures though I don't believe I am as talented as you. Ask any of the ladies here who have been on an Eagles adventure with me, I can snap those photos!
You can see some of my EAGLES photos on the Las Vegas 03/23/2013 Eagles Concert Reviews thread starting on page 6. Since I was sitting on the side I actually took over 300 pics during the concert.

My brother is the photographer of the family. He takes absolutely amazing photos but much to the chagrin of his wife they are mainly landscapes and wildlife.

Thank you, Zelda! I live in Northern California, more in the East Bay (East of SF). It's a beautiful place to live! Almond trees remind me a lot of Cherry trees. They are similar. The peacocks are beautiful, but my Grandma gets so mad when they run up to her porch and poop all over it, lol.
