No "happy birthday" singing but Bernie got the birthday wishes out of the way quickly. After he walked out, he announced, "by the way, it's Don's birthday today!" There were lots of cheers for the birthday boy!

Other than Don being a bit hoarse now and then, the show was terrific. Dreamer, PFD and I were fifth row of the first tier on Joe's side. We weren't second row center, but we had a great view and also happened to be sitting just a few seats down from Al Franken.

Much more talking tonight than in Louisville; the guys seemed more relaxed.

No songs have been dropped and they continue to be in the groove! This tour is their best in years!

WWWWWoooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww!

It's the Eagles, so I expect great. I heard the other reviews, so I expected fantastic. I got all that and more! Just wow. I knew I'd get to hear so many great songs, but of course the ones I was really looking forward to were OOTN and NKIT. I finally got to hear the Eagles do them live. Happy happy happy!!

I've heard from everyone how great the 'new' songs and how great it is to hear them live, and it truly was great, but even the songs they play at every show were better than ever. LITFL was the best I've ever heard.

The only bad note for me, Soda said she didn't hear it, but during Already Gone the audio 'fluttered' and nearly echo'd. It was very distracting and kept me from enjoying the song.

It's really late and I have two meetings in the morning before getting in the car and heading for Pittsburgh, so I'll write more later. Just know that I'm a very happy Eagles fan at the moment!

Nanc - those pictures turned out pretty well.

And dang - it looks like we have almost the entire show video-taped. The interplay between Glenn and Joe before Funk 49 was really good at this show. They didn't do it in Louisville and I kind of missed it. But they made up for it in D.C. - they were really animated and funny.

VAisForEagleLovers

Was thinking about doing a review for this show and realized that my memories are intertwined with last night's show. I wish I'd taken my voice recorder with me so that I could have spoken my thoughts on this show as I drove to the next one, to help keep them straight, but I have no idea where it might be. So, I'll try really hard to keep the memories straight! It would be easier if they all wore different clothes each night...

First I'll say that the VIP dinner was pretty good. It was in a lounge in the Verizon Center, but...THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING!!

Saturday Night was fantastic. I didn't give it much thought, but it hit me during the song that it was my two favorite voices ever, singing, just the two of them. I was in a state of bliss and stayed there for three hours. It's not my favorite song, of course, but if they sold that version of the song I'd buy it and probably listen to nothing else.

Bernie was great, coming out and sitting down. I can't remember all the dialogue, but after sitting down, Bernie reached under the seat and pulled out a blonde, curly wig and gave it a twirl. "I brought my hair." He mentioned it was Don's birthday, and that got a lot of applause. I like Train, and thought Bernie sounded great.

Like what was reported in other reviews, Timothy got a lot of applause throughout the evening.

At some point during the evening when Glenn was talking about the early days, he mentioned (as he did back in July of '08) about performing/getting their start at the Cellar Door in Georgetown. I wish I could remember the things he said and maybe PFD can shed some light as the hotel he mentioned in Georgetown is unfamiliar to me. I assume by the crowd reaction it wasn't a very nice hotel, and he got some sympathy for having to stay there.

I said it before, I'll say it again. Having OOTN, NKIT, and TS back in the setlist means I'll go to as many of these concerts as I can without bankrupting myself!! Hearing Glenn sing TS with the others doing the harmony was magical. I love the sound of Glenn's voice on this song.

The intro to OOTN makes my skin gooseflesh and I can't say enough how much I love that song. I sang along at first, but then just had to stop and take it in. Don had sung it at the solo show I went to, but it was great hearing him on the drums for it at this show, especially as my view of him didn't have cymbals in his face, and having Eagles' harmonies on it makes the song.

For NKIT, I couldn't really sing along at all. I just love how Glenn puts himself into this song. "Oh my my", that just slays me. Being so close to watch him sing it totally justified the cost of the ticket in my mind.

I thought Timothy's voice sounded great, and while I like LWKUA, ICTYW (in today's world of texting shortcuts, seems like that should be ICTUY) was uber fantastic.

Those Shoes. I like the song, I love the way Don sings it. However I'm not a fan of the talk box and so having two of them just didn't do it for me. I do, however, like the number of songs from Long Run. That album is tied with Desperado for the highest representation (5), since I don't count the canned version of Wasted Time (reprise) since it's not live.

They changed up the band intros and introduced Steuart just before Timothy, since he's a local guy. Of course he got a lot of applause. Glenn's joke about 'mother' being half a word fell flat, which came as a surprise. Perhaps because of their recent filing for bankruptcy? Glenn didn't do any dancing when he was intro'd.

It has occurred to me before, but it hit me again during LBG that it really is a theme song of sorts for me, and especially lately. So it was especially easy to sing along! Joe, of course, was Joe and a real crowd pleaser.

The 'dueling' guitars between Joe and Glenn at the beginning of Funk #49 was funny and great.

The last encore was just great. TIE is a great song and I'll never get tired of hearing it, and especially live. RMW was great, and Don did a fantastic job with Desperado. As Soda said, there were moments his voice sounded a little hoarse, but really, it was more of an added huskiness which really works with that song.

Some of you may remember some Borderers mentioning some women from Austria at Glenn's show in Niagra Falls in 2011, and then FP mentioning that Glenn sang TGFY for some women from Austria during one of his Australian shows earlier this year. They were sitting right in front of me, and we had a nice chat before the show and during intermission. As he was walking off stage, he thanked them for coming to the show. He is such a sweetheart!

Now I have to be completely shallow here for a moment and say that besides sounding fantastic, they all looked great, and even better, they all looked healthy and fit. We should start calling Joe 'Merlin' since he seems to be getting younger instead of older. My one complaint is the same complaint I've stated many times before, Glenn's shirts need to be shorter, and he could not possibly find higher-necked t-shirts if he tried. Fortunately, being in the front offers up some good angles! For the most part, though, I had to look at the handsome face all night long. And the great hair. Torture, I tell you. :lie: His vocals were great, they all were, and so I was a very happy and mostly overwhelmed Eagles fan.

All in all, I have to say, our guys are back better than ever, and anyone who has the opportunity to see this show should do just that. I can't do it justice to try and describe just how great of a show this was. Simply phenomenal.

So true. I assume he buys/wears bigger shirts so their roomy enough that air circulates on stage, and doesn't constrain whilst playing--the drawback is that the bigger hey are, they longer they are! Like smocks. I was happy to be spared the look in Milwaukee, and his t-shirts there were prett well-fitting in him, and I didn't notice them being too creeping-up-the-crewbeck! ;). The man could still carry off a v-neck. Not a creepy Ametican Apparel deep-v, but just a normal one, like Joe wears on occasion. And v-necks are simply more flattering for any issue you want to draw eye down and away from. I think they would make him look....leaner, if that makes any sense.

This is too much a fashion tangent!!! So happy you had a good time, and everyone was in good voice and spirits. And love that bit with Bernie and the wig.

The Cellar Door was on the corner of 34th and M. It was a restaurant for the past decade or so but is currently empty.

The Georgetown Inn is still there on Wisconsin Ave between N and O. Pretty expensive place now. Not sure what it was like back then but from what I've read it was still decent.

I love it when everybody puts their personal thoughts into their reviews! Yours was great, VA. I know what you mean by Saturday Night not being a fave but still you loved hearing it. That's the way I felt, too. Heck, I was hoping they'd go deep (tracks), even if some songs weren't my favorites, and I was so happy with the show.

Before the tour started we talked about the guys getting looser as the tour went on and it sounds like that is exactly what's happening. I have no regrets about going to Louisville to see the first show, but I'm also looking forward to seeing them in October.

VA will have to answer about what they said, but they seem to go to great lengths to ensure they are noticed. I have seen this happen twice now. At the risk of being 'snarky' what happened to me was completely unexpected & therefore I would say more meaningful. I have no idea what point these women are trying to prove.

They looked familiar so I know they've been to at least one other show I've been at, but I have to say I wonder about your remark. All they did that I saw was sit in the front row, dead center, which is something I myself do quite frequently. Considering the cost of front row, I suppose that could be considered 'great lengths', but now I have to wonder what others must think of me, and if they think I'm trying to prove a point.

I try to refrain from judging the concert-going habits of others - people might look at any of us and say that our efforts to see the guys are 'extreme'. Unless the women were being obnoxious and rude (which it doesn't sound like they were, at all) I say good for them! Glenn obviously appreciates their dedication, as he appreciated Julie's in Brisbane.

I won't lie; if I travel miles to see a concert and pay big bucks to sit in the front row, I want to be noticed, too. It doesn't mean I'll jump and scream or wave around a massive sign... but being noticed and getting some recognition is part of the fun. Those women are not doing any harm and I struggle to find any 'point' they could be trying to prove. It seems a bit of an odd comment to make.

OK-- well I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one to think that that comment was a little unfair. I personally don't see how them traveling from Austria is any different from someone traveling from Australia, the UK, etc...

Do I think some here go to, as Troub put it above, the "extreme"? In my book, yeah but why should I care? And I'm not going to judge anybody who is willing and can do it. That's their business, and their business only. I only know I wouldn't do it. But I'm not going to be snarky about someone else who does do it. I say GO FOR IT if you want to and you can!! And more power to anyone who does. I think it's great when our guys acknowledge it and I love hearing about it when they do. I just hope no one is reading more into any of the attention they may get from the boys then what it really is--- a bit of recognition and "thanks for showing up at our shows".

Just my opinion tho.

but now I have to wonder what others must think of me, and if they think I'm trying to prove a point.

Well now that you mentioned it...... ;):hilarious:

[QUOTE=TimothyBFan;241460I think it's great when our guys acknowledge it and I love hearing about it when they do. I just hope no one is reading more into any of the attention they may get from the boys then what it really is--- a bit of recognition and "thanks for showing up at our shows". [/QUOTE]

:) TBF! I guess the point I'm trying to make is summarized by saying I just love this band, and yes, what you wrote above is a very good point. The attention is great and I won't say it makes it worthwhile, because the music alone is what makes it worthwhile. They seem to like seeing repeat fans and do give a bit of recognition in appreciation and thanks, and that is very definitely all it is. In reverse, I am quite happy that the looks of fan adoration I'm sure they see on my face is never construed as me expecting more, either. Gives me the freedom to really enjoy myself.

I do want to mention that the ladies from Austria were far from obnoxious and rude. They were very nice and friendly and were the best kind of fans...total opposite from the guy behind me and in front of Joe who shouted Joe's name every chance he got.

Thanks VA for the review. Sounds like a great show!

I think it's nice that the guys acknowledge repeat fans who are in the front rows. It takes a lot of effort and $ to be there, and it's nice that they recognize it.

Sounds like those Austrian girls have a passion and the resources to follow it. Seems like a lot of harmless fun to me! More power to them :-)

I agree. More power to those women. I am happy for them. How cool for them, and how cool of Glenn.

When VA texted me about two women from Austria in front of her, I immediately thought of the women from Niagara Falls whom Glenn included in the third-row dedication. I sat next to them as they sang along with me to "Some Kind of Blue" and I knew I was next to fellow hardcores.

I am not going to quote FP's post again because it makes me cringe. However, I feel I must address it.

FP, I am stunned that you would criticize them considering the lengths you have gone to in order to see Glenn perform. Plus, if it weren't for financial constraints and other prohibitive obligations, don't pretend you wouldn't be doing the same thing. I'm not being critical; if I had had the money and time, I would also be doing it! I desperately wanted to go to Australia to see Glenn, but it wasn't logistically feasible. Otherwise, I would have been there. Would you have found fault with that? I expect this kind of behavior to be criticized by people outside the fandom or who aren't as intensely into it, but by you??

What did they do that some of us haven't done? Yes, they have traveled far and spent a lot of money to see multiple shows. So have several of us, including myself AND you. Why shouldn't they get recognized?

Thanks to them, you were able to hear the first public performance of "The Girl from Yesterday" since the first leg of the HFO tour. Obviously Glenn finds nothing wrong with their behavior; quite the contrary - to have a song played just for them that Glenn hasn't played in almost 20 years (and has never played solo) is an extraordinary honor and a HUGE deal. He must appreciate them very much.

Finally, it astonishes me that you would make a point of declaring your experience to be "more meaningful." This is not a contest and frankly it comes off as quite egotistical. Your experience was indeed special, but that doesn't give you the right to crap on other people's moments or put yourself above them.

Consider this: What would Glenn think if he saw you using the kindness he showed you to diminish the kindness he shows other people?

I am sorry if I sound harsh. I don't mean to hurt your feelings. I just want to show you that your comments were a mistake.

I'm really sorry that you felt that you have to justify yourself in this regard, VA. You don't. How you or I or anyone else on this board (or off) chooses to spend their hard-earned money and their downtime is nobody's business but our own. Whether we choose to sit in the first, second or last row is up to us. Whether we choose to go to one or 21 shows is up to us. I've been to enough shows with you to know that your love of the music and of the band is why you choose to be there. You are not there to get fan-whore recognition.

I'm disappointed that a member of this Eagles-loving community has made you wonder, for even one single second, that ANY of us judge you or think you are trying to get noticed or prove a point. Remember that, you little fan-whore, when we are in the front row in Seattle in six short weeks! :headbang:

I love the fact that "It was the '70s" or "It was the '80s" is seen as a fairly legitimate justification for wild behaviour. I don't think "It was the Noughties" will wash with my children...

Wow - I'd say FP's post caused all the fanwhores to get our panties in a bunch. Let it suffice to say that I was astonished by those cynical comments and that I totally agree with everyone's responses.

I certainly never heard of anyone saying these Austrian ladies inappropriately sought attention. I, too, am very happy for them and any other fans who get recognition from any of our guys. I'll sure cherish the special moments I've received forever and love that the guys appreciate their loyal fans.

Can I just say on the whole 'attention' thing that I think it's great wherever the boys are (group or solo) that they acknowledge fans whoever they are. It's never guaranteed and they cannot obviously single out EVERYBODY that they recognise as hard core fans. I was lucky in Niagara Falls, others are lucky at other venues and thats the way it goes.

It must be great to have the means and the flexibility with time to be able to travel to see any of the Eagles, solo or in group. Soda and I seriously discussed going to Sydney earlier this year, and both of us really tried to make it work. While obviously money is a factor in such considerations in the end it was work commitments that ruled us out. I really admire those Austrian women, and hope I too bump into them some day.

Some of you may remember, a year and a half+ ago when I saw Seger in Pittsburgh (Nov. 2011) I said it was easily the best concert I'd ever been to. I love our guys, and the shows I saw last year were great, but not enough to change my mind. Even Seger's Barclay show in NYC in April wasn't as good. However, the two shows I saw on this HOTE tour topped it. I can't decide which was the better concert, DC or Pittsburgh, they were both incredible. It's been over a week and I'm still kind of stunned.

I know what you mean, VA. I've been to quite a few Eagles shows, so it's hard for me to say for sure how I rate them. But, I can say for sure that if these HOTE shows aren't the best ones I've ever seen, they definitely rank right up near the top.

Think about it. For HFO & F1 it was performed acoustically with Don sitting next to Glenn & sharing some of those warm & fuzzy moments. Then they dropped it.
