TT - good for little Lucas!!

PM - Hate to say it but you suddenly made my miserable day seem not-so-bad. I'm so sorry that Chuck had to go through what he went through for the last few years, and I totally understand your conflict.

Today I found out that having a few people from my company at the office every day isn't enough, we need IT people and that includes the holidays. There is only me and one other person who are in IT, and his family is in NC. It is impossible for either of us to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with our families and be at the office the day before or the day after. This isn't what I signed up for. I've not mentioned it here before, but now I just don't care that it's an open board. I accepted this job the beginning of July and moved from interim manager to real manager on July 15. Our HR people never completed the paperwork and higher levels of management took their sweet time in signing off on the promotion, then the raise. Consequently, I have yet to see my raise. They tell me it will be the next paycheck, with retroactive pay. Which of course means when it's four months worth at once, the taxes taken out will be HUGE. Yesterday I was finally given access to the timesheets for the people that report to me.

Obviously, I don't do this job for the money. I do it for our soldiers, but to be honest, today, it's not enough. I could be working just about anywhere else making a lot more money. I picked up my life and moved it to KY in the blink of an eye, and less than half the moving costs were covered. Then the raise fiasco. Now they are telling me I can't spend the holidays with my family? Be trapped here where I know only a few people and spend the holidays alone? The stress of this job is unbelievable, and I can't even get into all the roadblocks tossed in my path several times a day. I do believe I'm now actively pursuing another job. I've had it.

VA, that sounds terrible! I wish you had known all of this before you accepted the promotion. If they don't get you taken care of, then I agree it's time to find a better job.

first pm,I am so sorry for your loss of your beloved Chuck.
The conflict you feel is a common one I am sure and part of the grieving process.
My prayers will be for you to find peace of heart and mind and the strength of gods love to surround you. again I am so sorry .

Verna, I am so sorry that you are having a bad time. No one should be getting the runaround bad treatment that you are having to experience.
Prayers as always.
With your work ehic and expierence I am sure something will come your way that is better for you.

Hooray for Lucas! But I know how you feel TT, it's like he is not a baby anymore. Once they learn to walk, they become independent! You better get your rest before this weekend.

VA - I am so sorry to hear about the ongoing work problems. It is always the dedicated hard working employees that always seem to get taken advantage of and I could see your dedication to your work in Seattle. I will say prayers that this works out for you whether it is there at this job or somewhere else. It is just a shame that it has come to this!

I'm keeping all our other Borderers looking for jobs in my prayers too.

PM, I'm so sorry for your loss of Chuck. May he rest in peace...Sending hugs to you & prayers you & to his family.

VA: Wow sure sounds like they are really taking advantage of you. I knew you moved for this job, but to have not even gotten your raise & now to miss the holidays with your family is really just too much! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this along with all the pressures of this new job. That really stinks. Wishing you the best to deal with all of this crap!

PM, I read of Chuck's passing on FB, and just as I sympathised with you there I do here too. There must be some small comfort that at least he is at peace and out of pain, but it hasn't been easy on those he has left behind. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

VA, I understand totally your frustration at the new 'promotion'. I hope everything works out well for you in your future choices. I hope some compromise can be made where you can spend as much time over Christmas and thanksgiving with your family.

TT, great that. Lucas is walking! There's no stooping him now!

Thank you everybody for your thoughts and prayers. Chuck will be missed by many.

As I said before, I just happened to be on vacation here at home last week. Since I used my bereavement time also, I had three more days of scheduled vacation time left. I requested this Monday through Wednesday and my manager was nice enough to give it to me. Tomorrow I go back to work after being gone for 12 days! Hope I remember how to do my job! ;)

One of my employees that lives in Louisville has agreed to come down for the days around Thanksgiving, his relatives live in Louisville, so he'll be in the area. So, that will work out! Now, I need to find out if he can help out around Christmas.

As far as the rest, they say the retroactive pay will show up in my Black Friday paycheck. If true, that works out for those on my Christmas list. The stress, well, I knew that when I took the job. The stress hasn't been from the sources I had thought they'd be from, and every day something comes out of nowhere and catches me by surprise.

I just find it odd that it's OK with everyone for me to follow our guys all over the country and yet going home for the holidays is not OK. Go figure.

Any advice appreciated guys, I'm in quite a situation here.

As I've mentioned I went for a job ages ago but didn't get it. I met up with them again today and they've offered me another more-office, less-people based role (I'm a bit timid at times), but it's even better than the one I went for. It's a full time job and whilst it's only 18 months guaranteed employment, if I do even an average job I'll have no trouble finding employment in the same role elsewhere, and that will as good as set me up for life. It also includes a lot of cool little behind the scenes style experiences too across the company. The only trouble is if I take it I'll have to leave uni, and whilst I'll still be in the same city I will miss it sooooooo much, especially the social aspect. It is essentially a huge gamble on my future, but the rewards are so lucrative. I've spoken to a few people and thought about it alone for a few hours now and I'm still no nearer. Need to let them know as soon as possible too! Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

TLR, I think you've already answered your own question. There's no doubt you should take the job. If you do well, there would be no reason to not keep you past the 18 months, and the ability to earn good money and take care of yourself is far more important than university, which is something you can always pick up again in the future, or take courses online. I understand the social aspects, but I'm sure you will find friends at work, and still be able to see your school friends when you can. Sometimes, you have to roll the dice, especially if there can be huge rewards.

Thanks for the advice Brooke, FP, TT and S-C; have decided to reject the offer though; a few too many uncertainties for my liking and I would've probably ended up losing a substantial amount of money (certainly all of my wage) on rent and paying back uni fees immediately. Will try and focus all my attention now on uni, and that does include a placement year in a couple of years' time, which is essentially the same thing for 12 months. Thanks for the advice though

Black Friday Mess is happening here in the UK! This is the first year it's caught on and we have news reports of riots in the stores and police arresting people physically fighting each other for bargains! We don't seem to be able to handle it! :-(

Reminds me of when Primark on Oxford Street opened, people were literally fighting over a pair of jeans!

I've only caught up on this now and I think you have done the right thing TLR. I have seen so many people take a job over college in my time. They would say that they would finish off their degree later/at night/as a module, but then the working life took over and they never went back. Fine if you know the job would be permanent, But places close. Its good to get as many qualifications as you can. You are also used to studying. Its much harder to start over after 10 or 15 years! If financially and socially you are in a position to continue with your education, I think you are best going down that road. the job will come, and you will have a much better choice too when you have your degree wrapped up.

Good luck with it!

don't people realize that there is a schedule of appts for "normal " people who scheduled their appts weeks ago ?? And that emergency means just that, and after someone tells you that they are in pain and has to be seen , telling them to come right on over isn't good enough???Who knows maybe I am the crazy one.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving with my side of the family at my sister's. Everyone was there except my older brother and his family and my sister's steps. Her house was beautifully decorated for Christmas already. Every nook, shelf, and cranny had some type of Christmas decoration. It is a small house, but it looked beautiful! She said it took her 2-3 weeks. And she doesn't work outside the home. That much work just puts me in a bad mood. I wish I could hire her to come and do mine! I put up my prelit tree and a set of lights were out, so if you have one of those, be prepared! Grrrr! I did get it all done over the weekend though and it looks pretty.

I had a great Thanksgiving and visit with my family. I'm so glad I was able to arrange someone to cover for me at work. We had 18 for Thanksgiving dinner, and either I was hungry enough to eat anything or I outdid myself on the food! I guess being here in KY and not knowing many people means I was desperate to cook for people once again.

I did get my raise, FINALLY, and the retroactive pay as well, so that was a nice paycheck on Friday! Plus, it was the third check of the month. Guess this means I'm to be extra generous this Christmas!

thx so much the knee pain wont stop me from going lol I going to have it checked again before I go

I actually hurt my knee at the Eagles show in St. Louis this past October. By the time we got back home to Wisconsin, my knee was swollen and throbbing horribly. Follow that up about a week later, my 2 dogs and my "grand-dog" decided that the basement stairs were a racetrack and they bounced me into the wall. More pain and swelling.

Limped around until about 3 weeks ago when I had an MRI -turns out I partially tore my posterior cruciate ligament and my medial meniscus. Saw the orthopaedic surgeon and he says it's not bad enough for surgery. So, I'll just limp on thru the Holidays, I guess. It isn't as painful as it was even a week ago. At least I have my concert memories to ease the pain!

Hope your knee feels better.

I don't want to get into it all here but if you are so inclined, please keep me in your thoughts and/or prayers. Thanks.

Glad to hear things are getting a little better, Austin. Just keep truckin'.

I just got some news from my sister in Florida and while I'm not going to put her business on the internet, it's going to be a very hard Christmas for her and her children. I've told her that I'll be there for her and that I'm praying for her, but I still feel pretty helpless.

Soda, sorry to hear this. Prayers for her and her family.

Busy weekend for me, Christmas shopping, house cleaning, and must help our dnl get the baby's room tranformed. Her Mom lives 5 hours away, so I feel I need to help her out. It's a very small room and right now it is full of new baby things from 3 baby showers! They are blessed and she is doing great, but a little overwhelmed right now. Just 5 weeks or so now......if she makes it that long!

first as always prayers to all who need it.

This is such a tough time of year for everybody .And anybody who tells you its all chocolate and candy canes is fibbing.
I mean think about it...cleaning and shopping for holiday stuff on top of ususal stuff you do everyday and working etc...and missing the people who aren't with us physically any more.

I just so try and stay ahead of it all . This week I am failing and had hit the wall .....

I now long for the days when my son was little and waiting for santa and so trying to be a good boy .
Me I am hanging on to the week after next when ihave a block of lose or use time off and then maybe I can just stay in bed with covers over my head.

Nancy, its natural to fell helpless when someone you love is hurting..peace and prayers for you both

I am now off for 5 days in a row.
where I work we make if fair at Christmas week cause everyone wants that one off. seniority goes first , if you don't want it then it goes to the next gal in each dept . I had it last year so it put me out this year since someone with more seniority had the time and wanted it
which is why I split my time and used two paid days this week and two paid days the week of New years.

My son called and is coming home from
Chicago on Friday.:blueblob::blueblob:

I just was on the phone with Kiara cause she is off the same days this week as I am and we wanna get together for an early xmas visit.

I could have gone home for Christmas this Friday lunchtime, but as I'm seeing an Eagles tribute act just up the road on Saturday night I'm having to wait until Sunday afternoon. A few of my flatmates have gone this evening, and the rest of them go by the time I'll probably even be up on Saturday. Our school went on lock down the last 30 minutes of school today. Then, after the students left, we staff were told to leave 2 at a time with security to check our vehicles.

Apparently an active shooter ditched his car in our parking lot and as last I knew was still on foot. A little scary.

sc, be careful.

A school system 15 miles from me was locked down yesterday for several hours. A father had a dispute with a mother and threatened to take his kids from school. He was found and taken in to custody. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

This stuff has finally gotten closer to me.......

We didn't know if it was a drill or not (deductive reasoning would dictate not a drill because of the lateness of the day and the busses had to wait)

We thought it was over when they let the students leave but what we teachers didn't see were the many police vehicles on either end of the bus lines.

When they told us to leave and security walked us out and checked our cars we were all too glad to leave.

Sorry for post on school scares. We do the drill so we know what to do in a real situation. The sad thing is that there ARE situations.... and children have to be at risk, etc. After 34 years, I retired last June. Now working part time. Soda...how is your new apartment?...hope you're getting settled in nicely!...and my thoughts are with your sister...

It doesn't feel like home yet, but I have more space, which is good. Everything's unpacked except for my hordes of concert bootlegs, which is a daunting task since they need to be organized by artist and date. My sister seems to be doing OK but... I wish she were coming home for Christmas.

Willie - I know how you guys up there get the snow, but I have to admit, I miss it living in the South now. Guess the grass is always greener... or the snow is always whiter... whatever!

GS - today is the day before freedom, eh? I know you must be in a great mood! lol

TLR - don't forget to let us know how that tribute act went. I wonder if they'll play Please Come Home for Christmas?

kdz - I went to an Eagles show at San Jose a few years ago. Love that city. Have fun!

TT - enjoy your family time!

Austin - thanks for the update. I'm glad most of your trip was fun; it's hard to have one that's 100% good but I'm glad you feel better.

Brooke - good luck with that party. Dang! But I know you're the hostess with the mostest so you can make it work.

s-c: please stay safe! How frightening! All these school shootings and mass murders... humans are so fragile and it's so easy for one to do so much damage. We just have to pray for sanity.

Someone photographed me asleep on the conference room floor, so boyfriend turned it into a Christmas card....

Now TK, I gotta tell you something for your own good. Girl, try to make people forget that incident as soon as possible. Get that photograph if you can and make sure no one is passing it around behind your back. You don't want to become known as "the one who got so drunk that she passed out at the Christmas party." Well, we survived our first family get-together and the house is still standing! There were 58 people here which meant standing room only, but everyone had a good time and there was plenty of food! We also had freezing rain all afternoon, but everyone made it home safely after they got out of our driveway! We cleaned the floors this morning, so we're ready for the next one on Christmas Eve! That will just be us and our son and his very pregnant wife though!

TT, have fun!

It sucks that I have to work this coming week but in fairness I had it last year and I don't have enough time off to cover the whole time he is here ..till Jan 5th. I am off again the following week through the 2nd,
Besides, lol I don't think he came home just to see me anyway.
I am glad he did get to see my Aunt , his defacto grandmother since my Mother is long since passed.

glad you are safe and sound in the great state of pa. I am sure you are watching your Steelers. Cant see them without thinking of you.

As many of you already know via Facebook, my 25 year old son, Peter, passed away unexpectedly this past Tuesday. The past 5 days have been excruciating and I've been told I can expect to have many more ahead of me.

Yesterday was his memorial service and over 200 of his and our friends came thru to pay their respects. It was quite overwhelming.

Now we try to get thru the Holidays. Peter LOVED Christmas, and his b-day would have been in just a few weeks. Definitely was his favorite time of the year!

I thank God for my husband, my older son, Tom, his Audra and my beloved grandson, Owen. They will get me thru this. We will get each other thru this.

As a Christian, I believe that there will come a time when you will see him again, in a place where there will be no more tears. JAHH and he went to the movies today and when they came home Kiara and Lucas were here visiting after work,
God I love that baby..so cute and he walks , Havent seen him since his bday end of Oct so he has grown and looks like a little boy no more baby. He has two bottom teeth and is very verbal.
It was the first time my son and my godson met. Kiara says they are godbrothers for life.

Nice to have the three important men in my life all together tonight

Off work today and tomorrow, happy, happy, happy!

Being the low man at work, our son has to drive for UPS tonight. Bummer. So hubby and I and our dnl will spend the evening watching Christmas Vacation and eating and visiting. Her doctor didn't want her to travel the 5 hours to her Mom's in her condition, so we get her! Of course, we are thrilled! They usually travel down there on Christmas afternoon. But, with our son having to work tonight and probably Friday night too, that won't happen again for a couple years. At least till he moves up on the totem pole!

Our daughter won't be here on Christmas this year for the first time ever! But, she is moving back to Columbia, MO from Austin, TX next Saturday, so we will get together with her soon after. So glad she is coming back to Missouri, at least! Haven't seen her since last Christmas, but will see her much more often now! :yay:

Tomorrow we open our gifts in the morning and then go to my Mom's for Christmas lunch with my brother and his wife, my sister and her husband, her daughter and husband, her son and his 2 kids, and our son and his wife. Small gathering, but lots of fun!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Molly - There are no words that anyone can write that can really express the grief and pain you must be feeling over your loss. Every time you ever spoke or wrote about Peter, your pride in him would shine through. I hope you can find some comfort and strength in knowing how many people are with you during this time and in remembering all of the joy that Peter brought to you and your family. May God bless you all.

This little guy (my grandson, Owen) reminds me every day that I still have joy in my life.

Look out Joe Walsh...there's a new kid in town. And, apparently he writes his own lyrics. The original song he's performing in these pix is called "Me Saw a Tiny Puppy." It's the only line in the song.
??? No idea where that came from.

I'm hoping to hear good news about my foot on Wednesday, and return to work after a 5 month absence on Thursday. I still have a few issues, but that is normal, and it can take upwards of a year to be fully healed. I'm a little nervous about being in pain and having problems after going back, as I haven't done anything and I'm out of shape. All I can do is handle things as they come, and try to remain positive and upbeat.

Wow - LOTS to catch up on! I've had so much going on and I don't remember where I left off in here! For now I'll just say I hope everyone is doing well and sending good thoughts to those who need them.

------

I'm doing ok, although last Friday I spent most of my evening in the ER with severe stomach pains and vomiting - FUN! A CT scan and bloodwork later - find out it's the new Norovirus strain that is pretty brutal. The ER doc said stomach flu doesn't normally cause severe pain like that, so that's why he did the CT to make sure it wasn't something else - that's what showed the gastroenteritis and he researched it and found out it was a new bad strain that is going around the country. Also he said my mono is active again and need to make sure in a couple weeks it goes down or it could be a chronic Epstein Barr virus problem and may need to see a specialist.

They gave me Zofran (nausea med) and Fentanyl (narcotic pain med) and sent me home where I proceeded to sleep for several hours. I'm on Phenergan as needed when it gets to bothering me but it's MUCH better now.

When it rains it pours! My health has been really bad since I got mono - it really affected my immune system. That's why I seem to be getting so many bugs and so down and out (energy wise).

And thank you Lissa for being my personal Brighton shopper. And I'm sure Brighton thanks you-LOL! Every time I put on my watch I am going to think of you and the fun time that we had in the Brighton store in Pasadena. I am so glad that we finally met & I hope we have another Eagles adventure soon!

Verna - it was great sharing another Eagles adventure with you & thank you for going to the Lakers game with me. That was so much fun! Too bad that Glenn was not there that night. Of course then neither of our eyes would have been on the game!;) BTW thank you for catching that basketball - GREAT save!! I would have hated to go to the concerts with a broken nose!

Joanie - what can I say? It is ALWAYS a blast with you. I think I lost 10 lbs. from laughing so much! This was our 3rd Eagles adventure and I hope there are lots more! And thank you for the Pink Champagne - a great start to Friday night's concert.

Thank you so much ladies!! Thank you for letting me share in another crazy EAGLES adventure. They are NEVER dull!! I would do another EAGLES adventure with any of you wild & crazy women in a heartbeat!! Just let me save up some more $!! :grouphug:

Right back at ya, Deb! You are a total sweetheart and even though I'd visited those places before, doing so with you was like seeing them with fresh eyes all over again. Plus, what can I say, I will never tire of doing Eagles tours! lol I only wish we'd had more time to see even more.

I know that we have more fun times in our future. I'll be seeing you the next time I'm in Houston, at the very least! Maybe once the Eagles take a break we can see some Mac together!

And if any other Borderers wind up in LA at the same time as I do - well, I'd gladly do it all over again!

oh no...wishing you a speedy recovery, Austin!

I had something like that last year...though maybe not the Norovirus... they never really diagnosed it..I had thought it was food poisoning and they went with that....but I was full on sick for almost a week and then felt weak and still kinda sick (though not as severely) for nearly a month.

and as HB said to me (cos my back has been out)

How does Garth Brooks' song go......"I'm too young to feel this damn old"!

Austin, sorry to hear you've been feeling bad and hope you're all better soon!

T & H, always loved that GB song!

I'm officially a Grammy! Cutter Brent was born this morning at 5:20! They went in yesterday morning at 6 and after being induced in the afternoon her contractions went very slow. After staying at 7 cm for over 2 hours the dr finally said she would do a c section. Things just weren't progressing. But everything turned out ok. There was never an emergency. Our baby boy weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and is 21 inches long and has a tiny bit of light brown hair! And, it was a very long night of waiting! We got home about 9 and went straight to bed. I stayed there for about 3 hours but didn't ever go to sleep. I just don't sleep unless it's night time. I did try! I will post a pic soon. If you are a friend on fb, our son has posted a couple already! And, he's gorgeous!

Austin feel better dude will keep you in prayer.

Brooke congats . So excited for you and such a lucky baby to have you as his grandmomma:inlove:

Crazy busy day for me. Today was my usual day off but I had said I would go in to help as I always do when we have the extra specialist come in.
They gave us a two hour delay to get into work.
So we had all those patients to call and reschedule plus three dr schedules from yesterday who needed to be rescheduled.
On top of that we have regular work to do and don't get me started on emergencys.
Just glad to be home and have a less stressful drive than yesterday.
And they finally got my new parking permit to work in the new computer system, yippee

Just had an argument with my flatmate about who was better looking out of Patrick Swayze and Glenn Frey. Typical day by my flat's standards.

Congrats Brooke and I hope you get well soon WF88.

Now the fun begins, Brooke! You'll find yourself pulled into the baby and toy department at every store you go into as if you're wearing clothing made out of magnets.

Feel better, Austin.

A Lot of Really Good News-

1-Got a temp (to hopefully) perm job at a company 10 minute from my house
2-I have two different local stores that are letting me sell greeting cards thru them
3-Getting my photography off the ground, won 3rd place in the Color Print show at the art society I belong to

Last but not least...

4-Wrote a novel in the summer of 2012 and self-published it to NOOK last week.

Here is the link for the book.

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/for-all-time-kim-salter/1118174532?ean=2940148319467

The book is called 'For All Time' and is the (fictional) story of a young British woman who survives the Titanic sinking and how her life unfolds after. If you do buy this and download it, you will probably figure out who the main male character is based on.

bought it ..its on my nook now lol
thanks for the heads up and good luck

Ok guys Lucas update.
For now he has a stomach virus and so far his sugar levels are good.
He weighs 23 lbs and 8 oz and is 31 inches long .
didn't gain much weight but he grew a lot taller per the doc,
He got three shots today so between that and the virus I don't think he is a happy camper.
God I love that little guy.
His nicknames---Goddad Mike calls him "the chairman"
I refer to him as "handsome"
but his momma and both me and his other god momma call him "PUDDY".
Its just something we all started when he was a little bit and its sticking .
He's just a great baby who had such a rough start and is doing ok now with lots of prayers and help.
:inlove:
