View Full Version : Like Chris Mosterd; from Holland

farewell

Hello, from Holland

I was pleasantly surprised to find this eagles-forum.
Nice to chat with other fans. But gotta worn you, my english is not that well and I'm quite insecure about it.
I am 36 years old, that means that my lattest english lessons were about 16 years ago (?) I'm married for 15 years now, have two kids; a daugther(13) and a son(10).
My hubby introduced me to the eagles, when we bought our first dvd-player. He said he simply had to have 'Hell freezes over' from the eagles, I had never heard of them. That is, ofcourse I knew Hotel California and probebly some other songs, but not the band. And it took some while, till I learned to love them. But now I'm on. Much more than my partner.
I'm really faithfull to things/people and also to this band. We've seen them in Rotterdam/Holland, farewell 1, and I made a few pictures with my cellphone. Am sure you've never seen worse picturse as they are, but I didn't care. Had a picture from Tim, (5th row, standing) and used it as desk-top. Nobody could really see who it was but me. Had it for a whole year there, till something happend to our pc. Now its James Blunt I'm looking at, he's cool to, but its no Eagle, you know. (he's younger, thats for sure, ha)

My favorite actor is Johnny Depp.
My favorite song? I really wouldn't know. To many of them.
But I was pleasantly surpriced by Joe's 'one day at a time'.

Well thats all for now, please forgive me when I write poor english.
Does anyone know the quote I wrote belowe? It's a Henley oneliner and I really don't know how to write it in english. Who can help me out?

See you all later.[/b]

by the way; Chris Mosterd is one of the copper section/brass players on the dvd farewell 1. He's the only foreign player in the set, and he is Dutch.
The crowed was going mad when Glenn introduced him here in Holland.

Welcome farewell. It's great to have you and hope you like it here on The Border. Your English looks fine to me. This is a great supportive community of fans and I'm sure we will all be glad to help you out. I think you and the others here whose native language is not English are great. I know I would be very reluctant to post on a non-English speaking message board.

As far as your quote, it is from the Live - Inside Job DVD but, unfortunately, I don't have that one yet. Anyone here that can help out?

P. S. I need to get that DVD, don't I? :D

Welcome to the Border, farewell! Your English is perfectly understandable to me. We have many people of different nationalities on the board, so you are in good company.

I've heard that Henley quote before but I can't remember the exact words. I have a terrible memory for such things!

Welcome from me, too, farewell! This is a great place to talk about our favorite band and your English is great! I've heard that quote, too, but also, don't have the dvd it's from. I bet DonFan knows that one by heart and will help us out when she gets her internet up and running again!

Hi, farewell, and welcome to the Border from me as well! Congratulations on your English - it's fine to read. I'm so pleased to hear that you saw the Eagles live last year. I went to three concerts, and thought they were amazing. Your husband has good taste to buy Hell Freezes Over as your first dvd. I have two kids as well, boys aged 19 and 17. They put up with my Eagles obsession but with a lot of  .
I have an article in Dutch about Glenn Frey. I'll scan it in and post it so that you may read it.

Hi Farewell, welcome from another European. I'm from Dublin in Ireland and I've got two kids as well, a girl aged 6 and a boy aged 3. I saw the Eagles live in Dublin last year, an unforgettable night in so many ways :D Hope you have great fun on the board. I love it. Your English sounds fine to me. Glad you like the Eagles so much. Who is your favourite? Mine is Glenn  (understatement of the year) Enjoy! Love Lisa :D

Hi farewell!
Always glad to welcome another Don fan! I hope you enjoy it here!

Now, about your quote: it is from Don's Inside Job DVD, which I love, and you almost have it right. He was talking about "being famous" and he said:

You haven't lived until you have stood in the refrigerated section of the grocery store staring at the frozen peas listening to the Muzak version of Desperado coming over the speakers. That's when you know you've made it.

Welcome to the Board, Farewell! :yay: It's great to have you join us. As I'm from South Africa, and my second language is Afrikaans, I have a special affection for Dutch people - you are all like our brothers and sisters, since Dutch seaman Jan van Riebeeck, who dropped anchor here in 1652, put Cape Town on the map. Afrikaans has evolved a lot from Dutch, but we'll still be able to understand each other to a degree! :D

By the way, your English is more than good enough for all of us to understand, so no apologies necessary! :D :D

"Hell Freezes Over" is the show that got me obsessed about the Eagles on 11 February this year, after being a fan of their music for three years before that. I fell in love with Glenn  that day, too :inlove:, and at 30 years of age, I'm floating around like a lovesick teenager!  And I'm enjoying every minute of it, along with great people like yourself. The Board is a lot of fun, as I'm sure you will discover. I see your favourite is Don - well, I think he's marvellous, too. I haven't had the privilege of seeing the Eagles live in concert, but maybe my dream will come true one day .

You mentioned Chris Mostert - he appears to have been part of Glenn's  brass section before he started playing for the Eagles (I stand to be corrected on this, but I know he appears in Glenn's  solo concert, "Live in Dublin").

One last thing: I made two appearances at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, in the previous band I performed in, in January 2005, and on the first day, I met a Dutch couple who were on holiday here for a few days. The gentleman turned out to be a percussionist, and he ended up performing with us on the second day! His wife took plenty of photos of us, and she gave me nearly the whole set, just after she had them developed! I'm only sorry that I didn't get their contact details, just to stay in touch after their kindness towards us.

Don't ever worry about your English - I think we all understand well what you're writing :D

wauw, Thank you for all the nice reactions on my introducing. Actually I forgot about this topic, cause from all the other topics I get an e-mail, but not from this one. Thought nobody was reacting on it. haha, nice to see differend.

Sodascouts, I'm going to read the article a.s.a.p. and ofcourse will try to translate. Any other articles, send them over to me, see what I can do. My daughter has just started a pre-university education (wauw, sounds even better in English, she's only 13 so she's got a long way ahead) but she needs these hugh dictionary's for English. Right now, I'm the one who uses them mostly. (At least one does  )
But I have to say, next Tuesday were going on our holiday trip for 2 weeks. Going to Belgium, just below Holland.

Mrs. Frey Hoe gaat het met jou? See how far we come?
For me its always nice to read African text, really amusing to duch folks.
It's so long ago that South Africa had to deal with Duch people invading (I'm not proud of that background) that the language develloped on it's own. So lots of things I can read, but not everything. Besides its mixed with English too, (they didn't do a great job their, either)
Makes me smile when I buy a bottle of champagne-like South African wine. It's called 'sprankel wijn'. Sparkling wine in English, in duch we have a differend way of saying that. A real made up name, like champagne. What does dat mean, anyway....Champagne. But sparkling wine, thats nice. And it's so true isn't it?
In my vision, it sounds like your drinking a bottle with stars.

Didn't know Chris played with Glenn before, had not heard of him at all before this, but he must be living nearby, about less than an hour drive.
That's not strange in this country, from east border until west coast it's about 3 hours drive (less, as the crow flies, ha that said my dictionary, learning all the time) From north coast (where Chris M. lives) til the south border about 4 hours. Just for your information.

Thanks for your sweet reactions, again.
Got to fly now, actual miles has come to it's end, and so is my post. Has been long enough anyway.
Maybe I'll be around before I leave for holliday, and otherwise, see you in a couple of weeks.

Ida
