I'll go ahead and review the VIP party. Cash bar. Music mostly Eagles and LZ so I'm happy. Food is pretty good I think. I was starving so anything would taste good. Merch shopping really was hassle free although I didnt buy anything.

Whooo what a concert. Amazing as always. Got there early with my dad, around 4:00. Walked around Circle Center Mall, grabbed a quick bite to eat at some bar, then went back to Banker's Life at 5:30. Able to get to the front of the line, doors opened at 6:30. Went straight to the merch stands, got the varsity jacket, the black Eagles shirt with the One of These Nights logo, and the Party Plane softball shirt. My dad didn't get anything but gonna order some for him off the website for Christmas. Took our seats at 7:45, better seats than we thought, section 6, not bad at all nice view of the stage from Joe's side.

Guys started around 8:10, and right away the stench of alcohol kicked in and unfortunately sat next to some people who weren't...or didn't seem in the mood to sing along or clap. Anyways, setlist was the same. Guys sounded amazing, during the band introductions Don got the loudest and longest ovation, Glenn had to cut us off. Dad got some tears in his eyes during "Desperado." Overall the guys were in a great mood, Glenn very playful along with Joe. I did notice Don didn't hit the very high notes in "Witchy Woman" and "One of These Nights." Wish he did as I like to sing along with him.

What an amazing concert!! They were very loose and as Soda mentioned in the Memphis thread, a lot more chatty. They were playful and funny. Being back in row 8 meant I could enjoy the audience participation more, and actually see more than one of the guys at a time. Oh, and they were all looking good!!

I took my camera and took a few shots, but haven't looked to see how they turned out. I didn't take many because I didn't want to miss a moment of the concert.

Bits and pieces of what I remember from last night...

This show wasn’t as tight, musically, as other shows I’ve been to. I think only fans who’ve been to quite a few shows would have noticed. I spoke with quite a few people who were also at the Louisville show back in July, so I’m not the only one who made the trip.

Don was pretty chatty in the beginning about it being about giving us a flavor of the early rehearsals back in 1971. He talked about the building they rehearsed in and where it was and that it was called ‘Buds’ and that Bud charged them $6 an hour to use it. He said it was near a liquor store, which was convenient.

Glenn interacted with the audience a lot, a lot of nice smiles, raising of eyebrows, pointing, and different amusing facial expressions. There was one lady in the front row who insisted on standing the entire time. The people around her were twisting around trying to see around her. Glenn was back from the mic a bit and looked right at her and mouthed, “Sit down.” She must have been surprised and of course I couldn’t see what she said back, but he nodded. She sat down and he mouthed, “Thank you.” After that, it seemed like he went out of his way to look at her a lot and interact with her, it even appeared as though he sang to her at least once. I will say it was distracting for me to see the people behind her bobbing and weaving to see around her, and of course it was noticable to him. Security was asking people to sit down after one woman further back complained about someone standing in front of her, but the configuration of things had the security guy near the front being about even with the second row, so he never even noticed the lady in the front was standing in order to ask her to sit.

Before LE, Glenn mentioned that he and Don shared a house, not a bedroom. Except for one time when they had company, “but never mind...” Yeah, I can easily imagine what sort of company they had and what was happening in the bedroom!

Before Heartache Tonight, Glenn was talking about the Beach Boys and their live version of Barbara Ann and that he wondered what Eagles song they could re-arrange to do the same kind of thing. He said he showed up at rehearsal one day and presented his idea of the song to the guys, and like what usually happens, they said ‘That’s a great idea, Glenn’. The audience and Timothy, Joe, and Don all laughed, too. Don seemed to find it particularly funny and had a ‘he wishes’ look on his face.

Don did get a lot of applause during intros and the spotlight was on him, but as the applause went on, glancing around at those around me who were hootin’ and hollerin’, they were all looking at Joe, who was down on the floor on the side digging around for something. He put a mask on and when Glenn introduced him he stood with it on for a moment before taking it off. So it may have been perceived that the applause was for Don, but in my opinion, quite a bit of it was in anticipation of Joe’s intro. Oh, BTW, did you know that Joe destroyed more hotel rooms than Leona Helmsley?

I'll add a bit about the venue. I was VERY impressed with it and how it was laid out. Where they had the VIP dinner, though, wasn't very good as the only way out (unless there was an emergency) was up some elevators. Everything else was laid out very well as far as getting in and back out. The parking garage was huge and had a pedestrian ramp besides the crosswalk at street level. There were people directing traffic in the garage as well as down on the street, and while there was only one way out of the garage, there were three lanes that ran smoothly. I did notice there were long lines for the restrooms, though, so it wasn't all well thought out!

Glenn did comment from stage about it being a great venue for the 'resurgent' Indiana Pacers and of course that garnered a lot of applause. He said something like 'just beat the Heat this year, will ya?' and said we're all getting tired of the Heat winning every year.

Thanks for the pictures, VA. It was nice meeting you!

Our seats were good, row 8 center. We couldn't have been more center, and for the most part we had an un obstructed view. Two seats separated us from Cheryl and her friend, who were to our right, and the aisle seats next to Cheryl were never claimed. Right across the aisle from them was Verna, so it was nice that we were all in row 8!

After SN, while Don was talking, I noticed the knuckles on Glenn's left hand were taped, and he was looking down at it as it rested on his knee, palm up. That's the only time I noticed anything like that, though. He seemed fine throughout the show. In fact, I would say that last night Glenn seemed to be having the most fun, although they all seemed to be in a good mood.

Glenn, Don, Timothy and Bernie have already started the beginning of WW when Joe walks out, takes a seat and begins his solo. What I found amusing is that Joe gives a nod to Don to let him know he's done and that Don can begin his vocal. Why does he have to do that? Yes, Joe is improvisational, but the vocal always starts 8 measures after Joe starts playing, without fail. It's not uncommon for Joe to give a nod to the band to let them know he's done with his solo during other songs. I just don't get it for the beginning of WW. No big deal, just curious.

During one of the songs in the first half (AG?), Joe goes over to Timothy and Bernie's side of the stage. They started grinning about something, and I loved it! It's very unusual to see Timothy crack a smile, but when he does, it's like the heavens open up! It's fantastic! And he kept that smile on his face for a few seconds, until he walked up to his microphone. They all need to smile more often.

We didn't get the plaintiff joke. I did notice in the 2nd half, during band intros, when Glenn says, "Detroit, where mother is half a word", he paused, then said, "That's funny." Apparently he's critiquing his own jokes now! Lol! He followed that with, "Detroit, who gave us Ted Nugent and won't take him back".

I paid special attention to Pretty Maids and pretended Joe knew I was Prettymaid and was singing it just for me!

During one of Joe's songs, maybe Funk 49, he was playing next to Stueart and stepped up to Stueart's mic to start singing the next part. He quickly realized he was at the wrong mic and jumped over to his own! Stueart was cracking up.

Nobody has mentioned this, so I don't know if he's been doing it for the entire tour, but Joe has a camera on the end of his guitar neck during RMW. It is facing him and gives a cool perspective of him playing.

I blew kisses...boy, did I blow kisses! I blew kisses to Don for Troubadour. I blew kisses to Glenn for Soda. I blew kisses to Timothy for TBF, and I blew kisses to Joe from me. Unfortunately none were seen, but I like to think the air took some of those kisses to their intended targets! Lol!

Oh yeah, the first mention of Jackson Browne got a "Jackson!" shout out from me , and a woman in the row in front of me turned around and gave me a high five!

As you can see in VA's photos, we got the blue plaid shirt on Don. I was happy about that. He's the only one who doesn't do a wardrobe change for the second half. I guess I shouldn't assume that - he might have two identical shirts. ;-)

Joe's red T-shirt in the second half looked great on him. Good color!

I have a lot of photos from Sydney 2010 where Glenn is wearing very pale grey & pale lilac shirts. I agree they wash him out somewhat but I'm very proud of a lot of those photos so I can't say too much.

Regarding 'that's funny' after the Detroit joke he said that earlier this year in Melbourne & then he repeated the joke in order to make sure people laughed.

Thanks for the reviews & photos.

Excellent review and pics, VA. But wasn't there something missing? Like ME????? It sounds like I missed a good one. Glad you had a great time -- albeit without me.

HH, you were missed!!! That's OK, after NYC you'll be sick of me again since you'll get to spend a lot of quality time with me.

I went back and re-read my review and saw that I mentioned that musically it wasn't as tight as previous shows. I do want to say that the vocals, from each member, were perfect. Early in the concert Glenn went back to an amp and used a tissue, so I did worry if he had a cold or something that would effect his vocals, but it certainly didn't.

I have two shows in NYC to look forward to, and two shows in LA. I haven't seen a date published for Europe, but I'm thinking that will be late spring and/or early summer. I'm wondering what, if anything, will be on tap for Feb through April? It appears as though they've broken ties with VIP Nation, and I'm not sure what will be in its place, how it will work, and how much it will cost. The Official Platinums through Ticketmaster are way over-priced for the quality of the seats offered, and I'm still reeling from the Pittsburgh experience and the fact that hasn't been resolved. (By the way, there were people at this show who had the same problem in the same seat location.) I can't justify the expense of traveling to concerts for so-so seats, especially as the new job means that time away from work is an issue. Perhaps whatever entity Azoff and Dolan have partnered for will take the place of VIP Nation. I hope if that's true that the prices stay comparable (or go down!).

I can really appreciate that they lowered the key for Heartache Tonight. I think it's a win/win. I remember thinking that when I heard it in Louisville, too. Glenn doesn't have to strain to reach those higher notes and he really seems to have fun with this version, and of course, we, the audience, still get to hear a great hit!

Prettymaid

It's like they found a happy medium for this show - one the audience will enjoy, and yet one where they can finally change the arrangements so that these old songs are once again fun for them to perform.

Dreamer's post in the Memphis review thread gave me the words I was looking for to say this... At the beginning of F49, Glenn and Joe always do some back and forth 'dueling'. In the past, it was Glenn trying to keep up with Joe. This time, Glenn started out with Joe emulating him. Then they switched and Joe led. Dreamer said in Memphis they did some hot thrusting, and they did that in Indy, using the guitars and out towards the audience (not at each other, thank goodness). Then after that was guitar licks and the use of tongues. I guess Gene Simmons-like but that wasn't the visual in my head at the time and I nearly fell off my seat.
