Hey Folks.

I know I’ve been a bit scarce lately, work seems to have been a 7 day a week thing for a while.

I have to share some incredible news which I am so excited about and I know many of you will appreciate.

I love many different artists and bands… But I am arguably one of the biggest Springsteen fans you’re likely to meet. My friends all unanimously agree they don’t know anyone else who is as obsessed as I (I’m sure you guys have a small idea of what that’s like… )
After over 25 years of wishing, hoping and having faith, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are finally coming to South Africa. Three shows (so far) two in Cape Town and one in Jo’burg. We jumped through hoops, but we’re going to two shows, the opening night in Cape Town, and the last night which is the one show here in Jo’burg. With both Cape Town shows selling out in less than 15 minutes, I suspect another might be added. I do know from a Springsteen forum that TONS of people are coming to these shows from the US and also UK. So that’s Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Cape Town 28 January 2014 and Jo’burg 1 February 2014.

But, that’s not all… A few months back, Dave Matthews Band also announced their first tour to SA. With Dave being from SA originally, he has visited here many times, but never played, and especially not with the band. So we’re seeing DMB in Jo’burg on the 3rd of December this year.

On the 1st of December, I will be seeing my beloved Johnny Clegg for the first time this year, in a beautiful little theatre at a nice venue named Monte Casino (not as awful as it sounds)

And… On Sunday we’re going to see Suzanne Vega in the same Theater at Monte Casino, for which we were lucky enough to get front row tickets. Again, her first trip here, and just one Jo’burg show. That should be a great, different concert, solo and acoustic.

And.. finally… yesterday, I WON two tickets to see the Irish group Simple Minds tomorrow night! They have been here once before, in the Nineties, but I missed them then and wit all the other shows, didn't budget on getting tickets so it was such a bonus…

So… I am one lucky, spoiled brat right now… So much incredible live music to look forward to in the next few months… I keep wanting to pinch myself. :headbang:

That's brilliant Steve! I know from previous posts how much you love your music! Great to see so many bands and acts hitting SA. Much as I'd love us to claim 'Simple Minds' as one of our own however, they are actually Scottish! Celtic Roots I guess!!!

Oops... Sorry! Why have I always thought them Irish? My bad...

I just found out from a mate also going that the support band is apparently Ultravox??? I need to confirm that but if it is, man, what an unexpected treat!

Ultravox are a great band IMHO. if they are supporting Simple Minds (or any of the bands you've mentioned) you are getting a 2-4-1 deal!

Steve:

How exciting! I saw that Bruce was going to be playing in South Africa for the first time. As a fellow fan(atic), I can only imagine how happy you are. Can you just send him back here in the Spring before he runs off to tour Europe again? I haven't seen him in concert in nearly a year, and the withdrawal symptoms have kicked in. I think he's forgotten that he still has fans in the US ;-)

Have an amazing time at all your shows!

Thanks everyone. ;)

NYC I'm sure he'll play some US dates after the Australia/NZ tour. Rumours are gaining momentum of a new album early in the new year, hence the SA and Aus/NZ dates not being billed as part of the Wrecking Ball tour which just finished in Rio.
Some are saying as early as Jan, which, if that's true, means we would potentially be the first to see new material be debuted... I would be over the moon...

Steve:

I'm hoping for a new album in January as well. How amazing if you get to see the new material live for the first time! I was at the Apollo Theater show at the start of the last tour and it was fantastic to see those songs played live for the first time.

Fingers crossed for US dates in the Spring. I'm actually carrying over vacation that I had saved for this Fall when the tour here never materialized, so I'm ready to hit the road :-)

Enjoy! What a thrill for you.
