I hope all Borderers here in the U.S. have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We certainly have so much to be thankful for in this country. As I've done for the last few year's, I'm posting the lyrics from this beautiful Don Henley song ...

For every moment of joy
Every hour of fear
For every winding road that brought me here
For every breath, for every day of living
This is my Thanksgiving

HAPPY THANKSGIVING BORDERERS!

Been really BBF at work this week as we have inspectors coming in next week. So I'm a little late here, but I just want to add my voice to everyone else's and say that I hope that all my US friends (and everyone else who celebrates) had a wonderful Thanksgiving feast.

Sorry this is late, but I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I also wanted to thank everyone on the board for making my Eagles concert this month even more special by sharing all of your comments, reviews, and pictures. Sharing the anticipation with all of you was so much fun. I hope we can do it again in the future.

lol I bought sweet potatoes from wegmans last night and a few ounces of turkey ..gonna heat it up for dinner tonight .
love their sweet potatoes and their kosher cranberry stuff..it has just cranberries and oranges and other fruit in it very healthy and goes great with chicken which is on the menu for tomorrow.
( FYI their reg cranberry sauce in the prepared food section has addatives in it but the kosher is just fruit.)

It's that time of the year again! I probably won't be around tomorrow, so

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I had planned to cook for just us this year as my sister is traveling to Oklahoma, my mom is going to my brother's and just our son would be with us. He has to work Friday (stupid ups! lol) and his wife and baby traveled to southern Mo today to be with her family. Our daughter (the chef) has asked us to come to her house this year, in Columbia, so we will go there and she is actually doing most of the cooking! :yay:

I hope everyone here has a safe, and wonderful day!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Like Soda, I'm very thankful for this community of friends!

I'm getting ready to go cook for 23 people, though Mom and I got the turkey in the oven at 7am this morning. This year it should be a little easier, a cousin is bringing the ham and my sister is bring the corn casserole besides the pies. So, just need to get the mashed potatoes, candied yams, noodles, gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry salad, stuffing/dressing, and mulled cider on.

Just wanted to wish everyone that celebrates it a

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I am cooking for some of our family tomorrow and will need to start preparations when I get home from work later, so I won't be around! Small group-our daughter, son, mom, one of my brother's and his wife. Our adorable grandson and his Mommy are going to her family's several hours away, so we will be missing them. Our son has to work on Friday and couldn't go or we'd be missing him too.

What will you have? We are having the norm turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie! Just a few carbs!

Enjoy your families and friends everyone! And don't eat too much!

My family gathering is even smaller, just my uncle, my mom and myself. We'll over at his place. In a few minutes, I'm going over to help him start smoking the turkey. I'll head home tonight, and mom and I will go back out there tomorrow in time for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

What I know we're having:
Smoked turkey breast
Smithfield picnic (shoulder) ham
Mashed potatoes
Baked mac n cheese
Jellied Cranberry sauce
Mustard Greens
Corn (possibly)
Dressing (not stuffing!)
Vanilla poundcake
Chocolate peanut butter cookies

That's alot for 3 people!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! *gobble gobble*

Wish a happy thanksgiving for all borderers! Enjoy your turkey;-) Well, since we don't really celebrate this festival in my country, we don't even have any specials in our school canteen.. But I think the concept of thanksgiving is universal. ^_^

I'm visiting Mom and Dad in Texas. They're getting a turkey dinner with all the trimmings from Luby's instead of doing their own cooking (they're getting up there in age and it's a lot easier). One of my aunts as well as one of my cousins plus his wife and two little kids will be joining us.

Great idea ordering out for your Mom and Dad! I know I spent 5 hours Wednesday evening and another 5 hours Thursday morning (besides other times doing deep cleaning) preparing the house and food! Last night I was exhausted! Went to bed at 8:45!

I wasn't going to comment on this thread because Thanksgiving has always been a crap holiday for me, always stirring up bad memories. Rotten extended family, shitty ass in-laws,and back in 2016, I had to sit there and watch one of my furbabies lay on the brink of death on Thanksgiving. I honestly thought this year wouldn't be any different and I wouldn't have anything to be thankful for. But turns out I do have something to be thankful for.

All of you and our Eagles! Y'all don't know how many times I've been depressed and have either turned on an Eagles song or come on here and just read some of the fun posts and have laughed so hard, and instantly felt better. I love you all, my fellow borders! And this thanksgiving will be good just because I have you guys in my life. :grouphug:

I'm late on this, but I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Ours was very informal with only myself and my parents. No relatives, no big get togethers, no buffets, etc. It was just the right/safe/smart thing to do this year, unfortunately. I just had surgery Monday, and so it was pushing us even more in that direction, in case of the rare chance I got COVID at the hospital, even though it was an outpatient elective surgery with all precautions in place including a pre-op test. They are older and vulnerable, and I'm vulnerable as well. My father has diabetes and would be in that category as well. My mom is as healthy as a horse and is in the best shape of all of us, but I don't want her sick either.

We FaceTimed with my moms parents for about a half hour and got to talk for a bit. We had an abbreviated menu for Thanksgiving for just the 3 of us, so we didn't need a lot. But we got the usual suspects I love like dressing, homenade noodles, cheesy mashed potatoes, and cream corn! We got two pies, pecan for my parents, and pumpkin for myself. I hate pecan and they hate pumpkin so it worked out. Always my fav!

Christmas plans are very much up in the air as of now. We discussed it on FaceTime. My mom's parents always come here for Thanksgiving and we always go there for Christmas and bring our Boxer (dog) with us. They are older but Gibson is pretty gentle with them (especially if told beforehand!) and doesn't mind being put in the bathroom during dinner when the food is on the table, haha! We will make the judgment call in mid-December whether or not it will be virtual and we would do a gift swap the day before in a parking lot somewhere or if we actually can safely do a 5 person Christmas gathering at their home. The numbers around here are sky high, and I'm surrounded by loads of people who don't take the virus seriously because of political influence and so they will not wear masks or social distance. Business are refusing orders by our Governor, and local police are very much against enforcing them because I'm from Rednecksville USA unfortunately and we have a lot of Barney Fife's for cops. For those reasons, we just need to lay low for now. If a safe/effective vaccine comes out soon, we have all personally decided to get it. Because of my health problems and my grandparents age, we would be expedited to get one of the first batches locally.

HAPPY BELATED THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

Our family did not celebrate Thanksgiving together this year, which is the first time ever in my lifetime. It was depressing, so, like many of you mentioned, I had plenty of time to turn my focus to the things that we have to be thankful for, which is a good thing. I spent a good part of my day organizing and planning all of the ways I can donate to charities this year to help families that have been impacted so hard by the pandemic. I have been going through my house and packing things in boxes to deliver to various organizations and will also make monetary donations. One thing I learned is that the Salvation Army really needs help this year because they aren't able to raise as much money through their traditional Red Kettle campaign. So, if any of you fellow Borderers are able to help out in any way, please consider doing so.

Here is a quote from Don's My Thanksgiving ...

I’ve got great expectations
I’ve got family and friends
I’ve got satisfying work
I’ve got a back that bends
For every breath, for every day of living
This is my Thanksgiving

Thanks for posting that, Dreamer. I don't listen to Inside Job much and had forgotten about that song. It's a good reminder that there is a lot to be thankful for, even though with the pandemic, it may feel at times that we don't. I hope that this time next year, we can all enjoy the holidays with our loved ones, in person!

Since I'm not a fan of Thanksgiving, I hadn't planned on celebrating. Adding on the stress that I am under, it's understandable why especially I didn't want to celebrate. However I made myself sit in the front room with my roommate and watch some thanksgiving themed TV show episodes on her movie screen. One thing I was thankful for was the fact that I had to work the next day. Therefore I had to get up super early, so that forced me to go to bed early. As for food, like I said I am not fond of this holiday, so I was planning on just some ramen or a burrito. But my roommate gave me a vegan holiday roast that she got from the food bank. I think she thought it was a nice gift, in reality it wasn't. She didn't say "here I thought you would like this" no, she said "I was just going to throw it out. By the way do you want this?" Like many times before, I was merely an afterthought.

Hopefully this will be my last thanksgiving with these people. I hope all the other american boarders had a good Thanksgiving!

I’m in Texas visiting family but flying back tonight. It’s a quiet Thanksgiving weekend and I managed to catch a cold, but it’s nice to be here.

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Soda, that's awesome that you got to visit family, but it's a bummer that you got sick, even if it is just a common cold. Hope you feel better and have a safe flight!

I'm very late with this, but I've had a lot going on. I hope all of our Borderers who celebrate had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all at The Border!

Although it has been a really bad year for me (and I'm sure many others), there is always much to be thankful for. I am thankful for everyone here, and the music we love. I hope you can share a meal with family and/or friends and reflect on the many ways we have been blessed! Now, bring on the pumpkin pie and Cool Whip!:partytime:

HAPPY THANKGIVING TO MY FELLOW BORDERERS!

In spite of all of the problems we are having here in the U.S., we also have much to be thankful for. I believe that we are a strong country and there is more that brings us together than what divides us. The American spirit will eventually prevail and bring us back together again as one nation under God. i am so grateful for my country, my community, and my family and friends.

Hoping everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

We all got COVID week before last and did the Paxlovid and were feeling better and also the family members who we do Thanksgiving with have all recently had COVID (grandma and stepgrandpa) as well so we felt safe getting together. Sadly my dad still has no taste but luckily mom and I were able to and we never lost our taste.

I am a little late here. But, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hosted two of my sisters and BIL's. It was busy but very nice to be together. Of course we all ate too much.

Austin - so glad to hear you and your family are doing better. Hope your Dad gets his sense of taste back soon. Take Care.
