Time for our next Song Survivor! Our game this time will be Non-Studio Album Songs Survivor. If you're new, for a basic overview of the game, see this post: Survivor Overview (https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6551&postcount=7)

I'm going to list the Non-Studio Album songs here. Vote for the song that you feel should be eliminated from the list. The song that gets the most votes will be taken off of the list (or, in the language of Survivor, "Voted off of the island.") Each round, one more song will get axed, until there's only one left. Remember: you're voting for your LEAST favorite, not your favorite.

Each round will last 48 hours after posting to give people a chance to vote who don't post every day. That means that the first round will end at 8:00 Eastern time the day after tomorrow. If you miss a round, don't think you can't play. It's all good!

Since there may be discussion posts, be sure to make it clear when you are casting your vote. Votes cannot be cast after the cut off time of 8:00 on the second day, and they cannot be changed once you have voted.

If you get confused about what round we are in, look at this post. I'll always update it to reflect the current round. Also feel free to post any questions if you don't understand what's going on.

If there is a tiebreaker, then ALL votes from ALL previous rounds are tallied and whoever has the most prior votes is eliminated. That’s the way it’s done on the real show, that’s the way it’s done here. If there is a complete tie with prior votes (Murphy’s Law), then I'll have a sudden-death trivia question ready. The first person who answers it correctly gets to break the tie. The odds of that happening are slim, but you never know, and it's good to be prepared.

We have finished the game. Thanks for playing!

The winner of the Non-Studio Album Songs LP Survivor Game is:
Get Over It

Songs eliminated:
Funky New Year 09/22
All Night Long 09/24
The Girl from Yesterday 09/26
Love Will Keep Us Alive 09/28
Hole in the World 09/30
Please Come Home for Christmas 10/2
Learn to Be Still 10/4
Life’s Been Good 10/6
One Day at a Time 10/8
Seven Bridges Road 10/10

Game Over!

Yay! I'd been looking forward to this.

The first vote is easy. Too easy. I apologise to Tim fans, but Love Will Keep Us Alive is not in my opinion an Eagles standard song.

So I cast my vote for Love Will Keep Us Alive.

I say, All Night Long - it's tons of fun and I love it, but it's not really an Eagles song per se, although obviously as released on the Eagles Live album it can technically be considered one (hence its inclusion).

I cast my vote for All Night Long.

Thanks for helping me out with this, dreamer!

I have All Night Long:

I don't have Please Come Home for Christmas or Funky New Year available for download, I'm afraid, but I'll look around for commercially unavailable ones to post.

No! No! No! - I urge you, please don't eliminate All Night Long - that song ROCKS! ;) Now - IMO, there is one song here that I consider less than stupendous, and I will vote accordingly.

I cast my vote for Funky New Year.

Oh, I agree All Night Long is superior to Funky New Year! I just believe that as a solo song released on an Eagles album, All Night Long and Life's Been Good should go first.

Totally NO! :D

As a matter of fact, Life's Been Good has become such a fixture in the Eagles live shows that it's almost as if it is an Eagles song, I want it to win it all! :P

I also don't think they should go just because they are solo songs. They are both far superior to LWKUA, and in my opinion also to PCHFC. I would rate LBG above FNY though.

Actually, Maleah - I was going to join you, but have changed my mind. I think this is going to be a fun game because of its unpredictability. I figured Funky New Year would go pretty early (BTW - am I the only one that finds it hard to believe that the same awesome quartet that wrote Heartache Tonight also wrote Funky New Year?  ). However, I am surprized that All Night Long is going so early. I have no idea what will go after that - they are all pretty good songs. But anyway, after a lot of deliberation and with much regret ...

I cast my vote for Hole in the World.

:weep: Maleah, stop it now!  Do you want to give me a heart attack? That's the song that got me crazy about Glenn ! I'm going to have to join Soda in battle here! :armed:

I'm not going to vote yet - I admit that I haven't heard "Please Come Home For Christmas" and "Funky New Year" yet (thanks for the downloads, Soda!), but I'm too sentimental now, anyway. I had a listen to "All Night Long" last night, and it's not one of my favourites, so I can live with that one being voted off. I'm going to wait until the next round, and start sweating about my choices, but it's not going to be easy, and it's definitely not going to be "The Girl From Yesterday"!

OMG – what a round! We are all over the place, aren’t we? It seems a shame that a song could be eliminated with only 3 votes. I was going to vote for Hole in the World, but if I do that, there will be a four-way tie, and Love Will Keep Us Alive loses the tiebreaker, assuming things stay as they are right now. While admittedly, the lyrics to LWKUA aren’t terribly original, I still think it is a very good song. Tim’s beautiful voice and delivery, along with the great instrumentals, lift the song from the ranks of the ordinary for me. Like Brooke, Please Come Home for Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas songs - I think it is gorgeous. Therefore, it is with great regret that my vote will be for the country classic ….

I cast my vote for The Girl From Yesterday.

Now, Maleah, if you'll excuse me, I need to steal your emoticon!

Maleah

lol I have to admit, for the most part I don't use any tactics either. LBG just honestly gets a little old for me about halfway through...musically. I really enjoy watching the band interact with it on the dvd....but listening to it gets old after a while, imo. LWKUA on the other hand, is a very rare Tim song and he just sounds so sweet singing it that I do like it a lot. It's very relaxing and calming. So that's my tactic :D

I'm in a state of disbelief that my favourite has been voted off :weep:  :( :scowl:. I know a few of you feel the same way, but I've quoted GA as it's her favourite too. I'm with you all the way, Girlfriend - I completely lost my heart to Glenn  when I first watched him sing this. Yes, he does put so much feeling into it - I think perhaps the word "passion" is closer to it.

I agree with you, FP - it is criminally underrated.

EF, I just wanted to say that I'm surprised you don't care for TGFY for its country flavour, being a Keith Urban fan - Keith is considered a country music artist, isn't he? :?

Now that I've got that off my chest, I'm still not going to vote yet. I still haven't had an opportunity to listen to "Please Come Home For Christmas" :( , but I'm pretty sure which song I'd like to win... :D

Well - Last round I voted for The Girl from Yesterday, which understandably some of you disagreed with. I agree it is a gorgeous song. Just like I remarked that Tim's vocals and delivery are so gorgeous on LWKUA, Glenn's vocals and delivery are also gorgeous on TGFY. And yes, there is also the passion. The difference for me was that I'm not as fond of its country melody. I am sorry that LWKUA is probably going down this round, but I'm going to be sorry to see all of the songs voted off because I like them all.

GA - I am quoting a paragraph from the first page of the thread, which reads as follows:

"Since there may be discussion posts, be sure to make it clear when you are casting your vote. Votes cannot be cast after the cut off time of 8:00 on the second day, and they cannot be changed once you have voted."

Since no other conditions are specified, I interpret this as meaning that you cannot make any type of change once your vote is submitted. Of course, you can edit typos, etc. or edit, add, or delete discussion information, but you cannot change your actual vote.

Yes guys, you can't change your vote for reasons of principle. As you know, some people base their votes on what other people have voted for. If you change your vote which influenced another vote, and that person didn't see it in time to change theirs, it's unfair to them. So, rather than all of that trouble, simply give good thought to your vote before making it.

To put this in the clearest terms possible, leaving no room for alternate interpretation: changing one's vote under any circumstances is cheating.

It appears that my vote for LWKUA wasn't counted probably because I said something like 'come to your senses and vote for LWKUA'. I assumed it would be understood that I also voted for LWKUA. If my vote had been counted there would have been no tie.

I now wish to make it perfectly clear that I cast my vote for Please Come Home For Christmas, which NO WAY should have made it this far. Sorry, DF. As I said, I never took to the song.

lol - thanks FP. Sorry about the misunderstanding, but when I first read your post, I thought you were urging others to vote, but withholding your vote at the time. At the end, when you didn't vote, I realized that maybe you were actually voting in your post. However, then I realized that I needed to remain impartial, and shouldn't assume or try to determine anyone's intent. That's when I decided it would be better to just leave your vote out rather than to guess wrong. Fortunately, it didn't affect the outcome of the round.

Since there is a lot of discussion going on in the game, everyone please be sure to make it very clear when you are casting your vote so there is no ambiguity. To paraphrase Soda, "Put this in the clearest terms possible, leaving no room for alternate interpretation". :D

Well, I had no idea that Learn to be Still had so many supporters. Don sings it, it is a nice enough song, but nothing special IMHO.

The other songs have unique qualities that make them stand out for me:

PCHFC is the band's only Christmas song--I play it constantly through December and never tire of it; Life's Been Good is completely Joe, a unique and fun-loving tune that makes me smile every time I hear it played; ODAAT is also a personal song for Joe, a tribute to his hard-won battle for sobriety, and a song that I'm sure inspires others, so that makes it very special; Get Over It is another song I love, quintessential Don/Glenn collaborative rant sung to a driving beat with killer guitar work; and I have already written about the fact that Seven Bridges Road has a speical place in my heart for their exquisitely beautiful a cappella harmonies.

Now after all that, I do realize we do have to continue voting these songs off, but I wanted to post my thoughts about them.

I cast my vote once again for Learn to be Still.

I see DF is very persuasive, but let me give it a shot!

Life's Been Good is an excellent song, and it makes me laugh too, but this is EAGLES Survivor. I included LBG more for technical reasons than anything else - TECHNICALLY, it has been released by the Eagles on their live album. However, in truth, it's a Joe solo song through-and-through. Having this go further would be like voting for All She Wants to Do Is Dance against Hotel California!

Yeah folks - Nice way to come together to save Life's Been Good in that last round. It's too bad because I really like Learn To Be Still a lot, but it's just not as good as LBG. Now, it's getting down to the wire and Joe has two songs remaining. While it is true that Life's Been Good was originally a solo song, I consider it an 'adopted' Eagles song. As has been mentioned, the guys have pretty much played it in all their live shows since the late 70's. Not only that, but it is a great song - a true classic. Now, I like One Day At a Time a lot, too - but, let's be real, there is no way it is a better song than LBG. At least LBG was recorded on the Eagles Live album. For some unknown reason, ODAAT apparently will not even appear on an Eagles album. So I say it's still not time for Life's Been Good to go. Let's keep it around a little longer. :D :D

Me too, Maleah. Not to mention the great EAGLES harmonies on ODAAT since it's an TRUE EAGLES song and all. ;)

I don't get why this isn't on the new album along with all the others. I guess if Joe was destined to only have two, then it's good to have two new ones... but they could have at least put it on the Bonus CD.

Well - I guess my desperate plea was all in vain. I looks like Life's Been Good cannot be saved. I actually love One Day at a Time too, but I just don't think it is as good as LBG. Of course, this is all speculation on my part, but I believe that the decision not to include it on the Eagles album must have been Joe's. Maybe he felt it was too personal, or maybe he just decided if he was going to only have two songs then he would chose Guilty of the Crime and Last Good Time in Town. In any event, it does seem a shame that it won't appear on the album. Well, since I am unable to save Life's Been Good, I don't need to vote for ODAAT. Therefore, I guess I'll go ahead and deploy some more strategy...

I think ODAAT will surely go next. Great song by Joe, but the weakest of the 3.

So, although I think Seven Bridges Road is absolutely beautiful with those perfect Eagles harmonies, it wasn't written by the Eagles. So, I'm going to have to counter gef's vote and vote for it.

SAVE DON AND GLENN'S "GET OVER IT" FOR THE WIN!
PLEASE!

I cast my vote for Seven Bridges Road.

I'm agreeing with Dreamer here. I know, no big surprise there. It seems we agree on lots of things here!

Oh man! What happened to my twin named Brooke! You are right - we agree on many things when it comes to the Eagles, but this time NO WAY! I want One Day at a Time to be voted off this round, and it looks like it will be even without my vote. Therefore, I am going to vote strategically for the final round. My favorite to win has been eliminated so I will try to protect my second choice. I love the rockin' Get Over It, but I think Seven Bridges Road is much better and deserves to win the game. Therefore ...

I cast my vote for Get Over It.

Looks like it's going to be down to the wire here folks! I have no idea what's gonig to win. SBR has more votes in the past but it looks like GOI may be catching up now that it's clear ODAAT will go. But then again, if enough people vote strategically, perhaps GOI or SBR will go! Wouldn't that be wild (although admittedly unlikely at this point)?!

Fascinating! I still haven't decided which one I want to win. I enjoy SBR road's exquisite harmonies and love listening to it, but GOI is a Frey/Henley composition and is totally rockin'. Hmm!!!

DO NOT VOTE FOR "GET OVER IT"!

I alsol love ODAAT as a song, but I do feel that is should be an Eagles song rather than an individual's one that should win an 'Eagles' song survivor. (I know MF! You'll make me eat my words sometime when there's Glenn  solo in the running to win  )Therefore with regret Joe

I cast my vote for 'One Day at a Time' to leave.

Anyway, I think I made my choices, so for now
I cast my vote for One Day at a Time
cause it's least Eagles for me, rather personal Joe (sorry Joe, please note I still like that song  ).

I don't want to be pedantic but ODAAT is an Eagles song. It hasn't been officially recorded but it is as much an Eagles song as the others here.

Alright! We’re at the last round. This round is special, so it’s done differently. We’re not going to vote for the song we want to go. We’re going to vote for the song we want to win. This is how they do it on the real show, after all. Once again...

Vote for the song you want to win.

While I love Seven Bridges Road the band didn't write it.

Get Over It MUST win this game. The song is an exhilarating return to form for the Henley-Frey team with some of their most incisive lyrics and music (three blistering guitar solos) and the way Glenn & Don sing the title together. I think it's tragic the way it has been discarded.

I absoultely ADORE the harmonies on Seven Bridges Road. Whether the guys wrote it or not it is a spectular song that the Eagles perform to perfection.

Therefore I cast my vote for Seven Bridges Road for the WIN!!!!

I don't have to think about this one either. But I feel just a emphatically about Seven Bridges Road. Even though they didn't write the song, it has Eagles written all over it. I can't think of any group that could do the song more justice. It showcases the guys vocal talents in a way that make you just say a great big WOW! Get Over It is a very good song, I love it, and it does have a lot of historical significance. But it just doesn't speak to me in the same way Seven Bridges Road does. I've said before in the Survivor games that when all things are equal, I will usually vote for the songs that rock the most. But, in this case, all things are not equal, so ...

I cast my vote for Seven Bridges Road.

Vote for Seven Bridges Road to Win!!!!

I know as a fan of the band it probably is a bit shallow but to be honest I don't pay particular attention to if it's written by the band or not as long as they sing it. 8) My favourite song is gone so I had to chose another one.

I love Get Over It. It's a great song and would be a deserving winner. I know Seven Bridges Road isn't a true Eagles song, but hearing the opening notes gives me the chills, and I'm listening to Live in my car at the moment. Those harmonies are spot on, and the true Eagles sound.

Seven Bridges Road for the win!!!

Phew! I made it in time! After a day off the Board (and getting withdrawal symptoms), I am finally casting my vote. It's a tough choice, as I LOVE both songs very much. The harmonies in "Seven Bridges Road" are stunning, and it's a lovely song, but in the end, I can hardly get enough of the remaining song, so I vote for (drum roll):

GET OVER IT FOR THE WIN!!!

The lyrics of this song, Don's great vocal, as well as the three blistering guitar solos (especially Glenn's  bluesy intro, rhythm guitar and brilliant solo - oh, how I love it when he performs this in HFO! :smitten:) just get to me everytime I listen to it. "Wow" is about all I can say about this song.

I know I'm late weighing in and I can't add anything else to what's already been said, but I love Seven Bridges Road, so that's my vote and I'm sticking to it! A very tough round....but SBR has classic harmonies that showcase their beautiful voices, is instantly recognizable as an Eagles song and is still a show stopper. While it isn't an Eagles-written song, it's execution is vocal perfection. Don't get me wrong, I love Get Over It, but for the vocals alone, gotta go with SBR.

Well, I've been torn and I'll be happy with either winner. It looks like GOI's gonna win, so I'll vote for the underdog... simply because of the fact that other than being a beautiful song, all of the Eagles sing "lead" on it.

I cast my vote for Seven Bridges Road.

First of all - congratulations to Get Over It. I have to admit, I didn't realize that the song had so many ardent fans here. This was a really fun, unpredictable game. When the game first began, I had no idea what song would win, but I truly would have never guessed that it would be Get Over It. Oh well, shows what I know!

As far as the next Survivor Game, don't we have a new album coming out in a few weeks.  As far as doing solo material, I'm wondering if some of our members are familiar enough with the solo works to get good participation. And then how would we determine which one(s) to do? Maybe we can start another thread a little later to get some discussion, feedback, and ideas from our members about what they'd like to do in the future.

I thought we could do all Glenn's albums in order followed by Don's. Or if none of us have all four of each we could have a poll on which one we want to do.

I really don't think we can do a LROOE Survivor until we've become familiar with it. Maybe early next year would be a good time. By then we will hopefully have got to know it reasonably well.

Just my opinion.

I'm always up for another game! I have to be honest though, when it comes to solo album I'd probably half to sit out most of it until it came down to the songs I knew. I'm obviously familiar with Don's solo stuff........but none of the rest of the guys. I'm familiar with most of their big songs, but not the rest....unfortunately.

This game was a lot of fun though! I can't wait to have one for LROOE!!!!

Why not do a game for LROOE right off the bat so we see people's first impressions. And then do it all over again after 6 months or so.
It would be interesting to see how people change their opinions about the songs.

Regarding the solo albums: I would rather do one by Glenn, then one by Don, by Joe, by Timmie, then start with Glenn again. So the entire fan base here could take part. All Glenn albums in a row could get a bit boring for those who don't own his complete catalog.

Glennsallnighter
10-12-2007, 06:56 AM
Yes I tend to agree with SG. I wouldn't have any of Joe or Tim's albums and only have a few of Dons. By rotating it we give each fan base a chance.

Woo hoo hoo! Congratulations to "Get Over It" for winning. I just love that song!!

I would only be able to take part in a Song Survivor for Glenn's  albums, as I've only just begun to get his albums together, and I'm still struggling to get them all .

I've never seen any of Tim or Joe's albums locally, and only one of Don :( . Ordering them takes forever.

As for LROOE, I think I would also need time after first obtaining the album to decide which songs I am more partial to.

I totally agree - a first impressions LROOE survivor would be very interesting, followed up later by another game to see if our first impressions change.
