There are over 100 journalists there... This means an explosion of press in the next few days, I bet. Stay tuned!

Tweets about each song...

Train in the Distance - song Don Henley said was auto biographical. Song about longing for an experience bigger than hometown

That Old Flame - about longing for youth and looking back

Bramble Rose - made me weep. song about an invisible woman whose worth is missed by all

Take a Picture of This - similar to End of the Innocence. Broke my heart

Praying For Rain - lyrics so humble

Over all: Strap in my friend. These songs will astound.

It was reported by someone who was at the preview today, so unless she fat-fingered the entry, and I doubt she did, then it's accurate. It will still be good to get confirmation from the record company, though I can't imagine it changing after today.

I'm soo looking forward to Cass County coming out in September. Since I bought Don's cds years after they came out, this will be my very first new Don cd. I've never been this happy about a new album ever since my favorite group, The Osmonds put out their new studio album a few years ago. I haven't bought a new album of any artist for years.

I guess I could forgive him Don. :hilarious: No more crying wolf. The wolf actually was here and this time, we are believing him. LOL Now I hope everybody knows I'm joking. I'm just giving an example.

I think I saw from the tweets that Merle Haggard, Vince Gill(which I already heard he was going to be on that album. I can't wait to hear this song that Vince sings or plays on. My two favorite singers) and Dolly Parton will be guest stars on the album. This is going to be an interesting album.

I am a country fan, but I really don't like today's country. Give me some Clint Black, George Strait, Vince Gill, heck even Garth. LOL

Here's an article did with Rolling Stone.

sodascouts
06-12-2015, 12:09 PM
Thanks for that!

From the article:
"Henley previewed eight tracks from Cass County, and in that abbreviated list, the all-star guests included Merle Haggard (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/artists/merle-haggard/biography), Mick Jagger, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Ashley Monroe (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ashley-monroe-previews-the-blade-at-intimate-nashville-show-20150610), Dolly Parton, Lucinda Williams and Trisha Yearwood."
Awesome! The only one missing is Stevie Nicks. ;) Well, it's also too bad Reba and Kenny Rogers aren't included. Then again, he's already sung duets with all three of those people, so he might have thought "Been there, done that" (not that such a mentality kept him from including Trisha Yearwood, so who knows).

A long while ago, we heard Lee Ann Womack and Ronnie Dunn would be on the album, but they're not mentioned here. I wonder if their songs didn't make the cut, or simply didn't make the article? After all, Vince didn't get mentioned either.

You know, the inclusion of Merle Haggard reminds me of the lyrics from "They're Not Here, They're Not Coming" where Don Sings "The radio won't play George and Merle." Let's hope that's not the case when he sings with Don Henley!

It looks like this has morphed from an album of largely covers to an album with a couple covers. YES. The more new original work, the better.

Finally, I'm a bit surprised that he shied away from calling it a country album. I thought that was the whole idea. Maybe he's worried that calling it country will limit radio play to country stations so he wants to be more inclusive. It would surprise me if he went terribly far outside of country-esque tunes due to the themes of the album - I don't expect a song like "Workin' It" - but we'll see. The definition of "country" nowadays is rather amorphous anyway.

shunlvswx
06-12-2015, 12:21 PM
I was thinking about an article I read. Their was a country singer who said in an article that rock and pop stars(whichever) should not put a country album (or whatever he said. I can't remember). I wonder how he would feel about Don putting out this album. LOL

AlreadyGone95
06-12-2015, 12:28 PM
Since the article says "abbreviated" list, I'm assuming that there's more artists than those listed.
I think that it'd be cool to hear Don's songs on my local country stations (or rock ones for that matter).
I'm glad that the album is going to mostly new material.

I hope that maybe soon, we'll get a track listing because I'm curious as to how many songs will be on the album besides the 8 previewed.

VAisForEagleLovers
06-12-2015, 12:58 PM
I think there are more tracks that weren't previewed, so it's still a mystery on others who might collaborate with him. As for the 'country' genre, maybe that's from the label? Album of the year is more likely if it crosses genres. Face it, a lot of Classic Rock, and especially the Eagles, are more country than most of today's country. So if he stays true to himself on this, it does cross genres.

He said he will tour. Now...where and when? I'm betting a stop in Nashville about a month after I move back East. :(

A Don solo show in Nashville would be fantastic! I can't imagine he'd skip Nashville. Memphis is even better for me, but the odds aren't quite as good. I'd go to both if he did both.

The closest he's come solo since I've been a fan is freaking Oklahoma. I'm willing to travel, but it's nice when one doesn't have to go too far!

Heck I would drive the 3 hours to Memphis. Nashville is a maybe if its on a weekend. I would drive to my coast(like that will happen), Birmingham or New Orleans. I just really hope he will do dates in the south. Some artists seem to avoid the south. Heck more like Mississippi. Can't get anybody big here. Boston came last night and it was their first time. Their show sold out in days.

Don hasn't been here in Mississippi in years.

I don't have a driver's license nor a car of my own, so doubt that I'll get to see him live..
However, if he comes to somewhere like Tallahassee, Florida, I could probably convince my mom to take me (I wonder how cheap the nosebleed seats will be?) I'm usually a very broke person unfortunately.

ETA: I'm almost 4 hours from Atlanta and my mom refuses to drive on I-75 anywhere near the city (been there, done that, lucky to make it out in one piece during Friday afternoon rush hour traffic). I know that Albany is too small for him to play, and so is Dothan, Alabama. (City an hour away). I can hope for Columbus, Georgia (it's about the same distance as Tallahassee), but I'm doubtful.

I'm delighted by everything I've read about Cass County, accepting the strong country music element.

So far, there doesn't seem to be any songs with, the more admiral than enjoyable, unpleasant, self-righteous, condemnatory lyrical content, that Don's produced in the past. I'm looking forward to enjoying Cass County.

It's too early describe it but Cass County looks like it could be a warm hug of an album. Has Don turned into a Teddy Bear? :)

From the second article that Shun posted:

He first played the Tift Merritt song “Bramble Rose,” a mandolin waltz featuring Henely,Mick Jaggerand Miranda Lambert. The breathtaking, steel-soaked ballad “The Cost of Living” co-stars Henley withMerle Haggard.“Take a Picture of This” has the throb and lush melody of a classic Henley solo outing. The Martina McBride duet “That Old Flame” rocks like a No. 1 stone smash.Trisha Yearwood is the harmony singer on the power ballad “Words Can Break Your Heart.”

The Louvin Brothers chestnut “When I Stop Dreaming” drew loud applause for its arrangement as a duet with Dolly Parton. The shambling, stately, steady “Praying for Rain” has a chorus choir featuring Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Kellie Pickler, Ashley Monroe and Yearwood. “Train in the Distance” is a rootsy, autbiographical outing with a background vocal by Lucinda Williams.

Mick Jagger and Miranda Lambert singing on the same song? That's definitely gonna be unique!

The more I read about it, the more I'm ready to listen to it! There's definitely a wide variety of singers on the album!

I can say Don's got great taste with the women he wants to sing it with. Heck. Don picked a great bunch of male and female singers. I was shocked with Miranda, but its going to be interesting. I'm jut glad he didn't get Taylor Swift.

Break Each Other's Hearts Again. Its a beautiful song. Don sound a little different. I almost didn't recognize him. Its like he dropped his singing voice just a little.

:woah:, I agree that it's a beautiful song.

If Don sounds like that on Cass County, I might start liking his singing voice more than Glenn's. I think that sounds better with that little difference.

In one of the interviews Don says 'I’m looking forward to whatever comes next…I’m still goofy enough to hope that my best work is ahead of me' ~ I love that attitude so much ~ this is a man who never says 'Hey I've achieved so much I can just sit back and do nothing now.' He always wants to keep creating.

I will go against the grain & say that the song I am most looking forward to is Bramble Rose with Sir Mick on vocals & harmonica. I must apologise to all my American friends. I have heard of most of these artists but I have never heard any of their songs. American country music means virtually nothing where I live.

In the words of Shania Twain, most of them 'don't impress me much'. I don't dislike them, either. Merle Haggard, of course, is a favorite. One or two of them, I have no idea what they've sung, either, so I can't make a judgment. I like a lot of what Dolly Parton has done, but she has a habit of over doing it sometimes. Still, even ones I don't care for, I know they do a fantastic job on this album, because otherwise, Don wouldn't have let their songs make the cut.

I'm familiar with almost all of the ones listed so far, though I have no clue who Lucuinda Williams or Ashley Monroe are. Most I like. Country is the most popular genre of music around here. Heck, Trisha Yearwood is from a small town in central Georgia where several of my cousins live. It's been engrained in me since I was little, particularly outlaw country and the country hits of the late 70's- early 90's. While rock music is my main genre of music, there's always a place for country.

I do love how there's a variety of different country artists that are appearing on Cass County. They're not all cut from the same cloth, and they cover several generations, from the 50s- to the present.

ETA: FP, I guess that you trying to understand or like country music would be like me trying to get into whatever local scenes you have down there.

It's not that I don't understand it, but I stopped at Hank Williams/Johnny Cash. I am this minute listening to Dylan's One More Night from Nashville Skyline. I probably exaggerated when I said American country music means nothing here but I think it would be true to say that none of these artists sell any records down here. Dolly Parton did briefly when she went pop with songs like 9 To 5.

I've been a fan of country music since 1994. That's the year when I started to broaden my music taste. I know about all of them.

I've been a fan of Vince Gill for 20 something years. I've seen him once in concert. He's in my top 5 of favorite singers. He's a great singer and plays the heck out of the guitar.

I'm not really a fan of Miranda. I like one song and that's it. She's married to Blake Shelton who is also a country singer and one of the judges on the Voice.

Martina McBride is a wonderful singer. That woman has some pipes. She's small, but when you hear her sing, you can't believe what comes out of that small body. She and Trisha came out around the same time in the early 90s.

I think the only one I'm not familiar with is Lucinda Williams. I heard some songs she wrote, but not familiar with her singing.

The two covers song. I've never heard of those songs. I had to go on YouTube to listen to the original version. I looked up Bramble Rose, which I posted. That's different one of those very traditional country songs. I don't know if I can see Don doing it like that. I can see him putting a little spin to that song. The other one was more a bluegrass song. I'm not a fan of bluegrass and Don really have to spin that song for me to like.

I think a lot of country singers are not popular outside of the US. Some go to Europe or Australia and some don't.

Well, it's just that country music sums up life in the American south, which I can understand not being popular outside of the states. There's several country songs about places around here (see Chattahoochee by Alan Jackson or Muckalee Creek Water by Luke Bryan). When I hear them, they bring back fond memories of my childhood.
Blake Shelton is one of the few modern male country singers I like, besides Luke Bryan, who is a local boy. I'm not too familiar with his wife,Miranda, but I like the song that she did about Blake losing his brother.
I like both Trisha and Vince's voices.

Well I was brought up on good ole country music. My mother played it non-stop and her favourite was Charley Pride but mine was definitely George Jones and he's one of Don's favourites too. Ireland is country music mad, during the summer there's a festival every other weekend and all the big stars come over here...ahem...you may remember the Garth fiasco last year????

Vince Gill has played here twice and I saw him both times - he was absolutely brilliant. He talked about the links between Ireland and American country music. Apparently Irish emigrants brought the country sound over to the Appalachian Mountains and it expanded from there......so.........if there's any place in Europe Don would be MOST welcome and appreciated it would be here!!!!!

Come on Don, my Irish eyes are smiling :)

Welcome back HD - we missed you:thumbsup:

Here are some videos of the guest stars on Don's album for those are not familiar with them.

Martina McBride. One of my favorite songs. Broken Wings. Like I said she has some pipes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgjTO5eAbZY

Vince Gill. A great singer and guitar player. This features his singing and great guitar player. This guy has sing with everybody known to man in country music. He has even sang with Reba. They have a no. 1 hit called The Heart Won't Lie. Like Don, he blends so great with everybody. So I'm looking forward to hearing Don with Vince. I wanted to post his ballads, but I also wanted to post a video with his amazing guitar playing. Here's One More Last Chance. The second video is more a traditional sound like song. The woman in the background is Patty Loveless. I forgot to mention. IF you heard of Pure Prairie League, he was in that band before he moved to Nashville and became a solo artist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGfgIQfpbWI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwmGWCJOxnw

Alison Krauss: She's more a bluegrass singer, but has a great voice. She even sang with Robert Plant. I found a few videos of them. Here's an old Keith Whitley song. When You Say Nothing At All.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SCOimBo5tg

Miranda Lambert. Of course she's part of the new country. She's been around for 10 something years. We really didn't make it big until a few years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQYNM6SjD_o

Kellie Pickler is an American Idol alumni and she was also on Dancing With The Stars which she won.

Merle Haggard. I was one of the traditional country singers. He was around with George Jones, Dolly, Buck Owens etc.

Yes he does, VA. I only saw Vince in concert once. I think it was 2004 or 2005. It was amazing. Vince has this distinct voice. When you hear a song and he's singing backup or harmony on it, you know its him like you will know its Don singing with another person. He and Don will definitely blend great. Too bad Vince is singing with other people on that song. I would had loved to hear Vince either sing a duet with Don, sing backup on a song, but a guest guitar player.

I'm going to put up Trisha Yearwood even though I know everybody knows her. Here's Trisha with Don on Walkaway Joe. I don't know if this will the first time Trisha sang on Don's album. So I'm looking forward to Trisha on the other side (meaning she's lending her voice for Don's song)

I forgot to add LeeAnn Woamck because I saw her name. She has a great voice. I Hope You Dance is one of her very big hits. It even crossed over to the pop side.

I am somewhat dubious about the number of duets, especially with women. I really don't like male/female duets much. I have the Krauss/Plant album & it really isn't a duets album, except for a couple of tracks. If you want to hear a real male/female duets album you should try the Knopfler/Emmylou Harris album All The Roadrunning. How will this affect which songs he chooses to sing on tour? He can't take all these people on tour with him.

Someone said that everyone knows Trisha Yearwood. Well, as I said eariler, I have heard of her, but I have never heard her music. I will be approaching this album very much as an outsider to this world.

A lot of modern country is close to what the Eagles have done as recently as songs like "How Long" and "Busy Being Fabulous" from Long Road Out of Eden. Indeed, those songs were not only played on some country radio stations, they were also nominated for categories in both the Country Music Awards and the Country Music Television Awards. Don't forget that in the case of the Country Music Awards, the Eagles performed both of those songs live - and those were the only awards shows on which they appeared. They courted the country crowd hard.

Also, I know the solo single "For My Wedding" from Inside Job was released to country radio back in 2001.

I therefore have a feeling the style of Cass County won't be too jarring for most Henley fans.

I love Don's duets, but I think that some of these artists are simply lending background vocals. It reminds me of the guest artists Timothy brought in for Expando. I enjoyed their contributions. I'm betting I'll enjoy these as well.

Regarding the artists Don has involved, they are strong vocalists and they can harmonize well. Whether you classify them "country" or something else is irrelevant in terms of their ability.

As for performing duets live, I know when Stevie Nicks performs her hit duets "Leather and Lace" and "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" on tour, she uses other vocalists in the place of the ones who sang on the original track. Waddy Wachtel typically does the latter. The former has varied. On occasion, she has performed "Leather in Lace" herself, simply changing the lyrics to "Sometimes I'm the strong one" and singing both verses with her female backing singers doing harmony. It worked, but not as well.

Regardless, I've never seen any audience members riot! They just want to hear the songs.

Despite all the complimentary things I've read about Cass County, I still have reservations.

Don's shying away from calling it a country album but the folks he's got singing and playing on Cass County sure lean in a country direction imho.

Another thing is Stan Lynch. Don's written some great songs with Glenn and Joe, Don (F), Tim, JD, Kootch, Bruce Hornsby and Mike Campbell but what's the best song he's written with Stan?

There are a few I like, such as; You Don't Know Me At All and Goodbye To A River but he's not involved with any of Don's major hits as far as I know. Lynch's name seems to crop up in the credits of Henley tracks, I'd call fillers.

They must have upped their game to produce an album, as good as the one industry types are raving about.

Did Stan write any hits for Tom Petty?

Freypower
06-16-2015, 05:51 PM
A lot of his co-writes with Stan are also credited to people like Jai Winding. However, my favourite (and I seem to be alone in this) from IJ is Damn It, Rose by Henley-Lynch. But that appears to be the only song credited to just the two of them.

The Last Worthless Evening (Henley/Corey/Lynch) is pretty well known. I'm not going to talk about which tracks are fillers because in my view the fillers are mostly written with Kortchmar & are on Bulding The Perfect Beast.

As far as I know Tom Petty's hits were written by Tom Petty. There were a couple of co-writes with Mike Campbell.

I was a big fan of Henley during the 80s. I'd have even called him my favourite Eagle, above Joe but I've been unimpressed with his out put over the last 20 years. The people who've listened to Cass County are the carefully chosen few. Walsh's and Felder's recent albums have received great reviews that I thought were over enthusiastic. I look forward to enjoying Henley's album but as he said, the bar is set low, despite the universal fawning praise.

The indicator for me is the CEO of Capitol Records calling it "album of the year". Of course he's biased towards albums Capitol is putting out, but that's still a lot to choose from. Well, I for one can't wait cos I'm a big country fan and of course an even bigger Don fan! The lyrics he produces are so thought provoking and he hasn't lost it judging by the sneak preview we got of Train in the Distance -

"you can ride that train to the far end of creation. Away from everything and everyone you know. You better make friends with your angels and your demons. They will be riding with you wherever you go. But, you have to go..."

I find that very profound and moving and it reminds me of a line form the musical The Hired Man - "you take yourself with you wherever you go."

Hmm, if there's 17 songs, that means that less than half were previewed. That leads me to believe that they are more people on this album that the ones we've heard about. I wonder if Don will sing a song or 2 by himself? (I'm hoping for that).

If people based their opinions on less than half of the album, that still leaves a lot about the album that we don't know.( This might be a good thing. It's just that I've never liked surprises. )

Not just Faraway Eyes, but Wild Horses & Dead Flowers from Sticky Fingers which were recorded when Gram Parsons was hanging around the Stones. Mick can sing this stuff in his sleep. But what I read is that Mick, Don & Miranda Lambert sing a verse each.

17 tracks is a LOT. I do hope there aren't any covers of Eagles songs as was rumoured. I was quite clear on that point that I regarded it as completely unnecessary.

AG95, he can and likely will promote it before it's released, just not with a tour. The tour will come after the release. The promotion beforehand will likely be interviews in various places, and might not happen until only a week or two before the release.

That is one serious quiff he's got going there, even though its probably just the wind blowing through his hair

One thing I've found in all these press releases (even though they all seem to be rehashes of just one) - everyone is amazed that he is a nice, normal guy !! But we all knew that anyway :)

I really hope he includes Europe in his fall tour!! If he doesn't, I might change my mind about him being "mostly" a nice, normal guy :eyebrow:

Interviews are what I was referring to by "promote". I'm sure that Don would want some to rest before going on tour again, and there's little point in tourinh beforehand.

Lacken, I have no idea why it worked out this way, but both Glenn and Joe went to the UK to do appearances and interviews, but neither toured. Glenn went to Australia and did appearances and interviews and announced a tour. I have no idea, just throwing out ideas, but the line in the documentary, from HFO, from 20 years ago, they said it was expensive to tour in Europe. I know the company I work for has to pay a lot more for the employees that work in Europe as opposed to elsewhere, so I'm not sure if that's it or not.

I hope he does tour there, but I think it'll come down to how much money he stands to make - the amount of money he needs to pay out, and if that difference is enough to make it worth it to him.

He only toured Europe once, for EOTI, and I would doubt that he thinks this album is really intended for a European audience (in my view, Europe would have lapped After Hours up, just as Australia did).

I completely agree with you on this - its very expensive to work/tour in other countries especially with visas, work permits etc so that's why I'm hoping he does consider it in his benefit to tour Europe.
Hopefully the outgoings and expenditure are less for a solo tour than for a band, and this might convince him to tour here.....

Will have to keep sending "Tour Here" thoughts to him !!

I'm looking all these new pictures of Don. I love the one with the cowboy at the same place. I notice he's got his hair real short in the back.

As all the other Eagles have done it, it's more than likely that Don will do some promotion in the UK, maybe even just down the road at Media City in Salford/Manchester. I'd guess he'd be the most likely Eagle to play live shows too (Tim's were a most welcome surprise).

I know Don released a concert DVD and did a live TV Special to promote Inside Job. I think he played on morning TV too so I'm sure there will be something to look forward to even if he shuns a European tour.

It'll be wonderful if Don does do some live stuff, on this side of the Atlantic, especially if it's filmed for TV. Don comes across as a lot more amiable and personable when he's off Eagles duty.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think that a deluxe edition of Cass County will be similar to the deluxe edition of LROOE(which I still need to get my hands on). The regular album will probably contain 12-14 songs, with deluxe version having the full 16 and a bigger booklet/packaging. Most new albums released now come with a free download of the album, at least here in the states. I think that the deluxe edition will have to contain more than just bonus songs to appeal to the no so hardcore fans. Again, that's just my thinking.

Now, I'm waiting to hear if the album will just be a cd/digital release or will there also be vinyl copies made?

Norfolk, Virginia and London, Ontario
Thanks for the clarification Divine Don.

When Don toured England in 1989, he played a few arenas (There weren't many around to play then). The show I attended (at Birmingham NEC) was far from full, although a decent sized crowd.

Trying to think back to 1989, I can't decide whether Don is more or less relevant now, than he was then.

If Cass County is as good as they say it is, that and the impact of HFO and the continuing success of the Eagles, could eclipse the impact of The End Of The Innocence album, at least here in the UK... but that's iffy speculation.

Sales should be helped by the HotE doc. If it does really well, would that bring about a change of heart about releasing new music by the band, or would Don be more likely to continue with his solo efforts?

AlreadyGone95
06-19-2015, 03:08 PM
Yeah, the HoTE doc has gained the band some new fans for sure. Of course, I want Cass County to do well, especially if it's as good as we've been hearing. If Cass County is a success, in terms of sales and chart positions, I hope that it would prove to the band that most of their fans do want to have new music and not just attend concerts containing the old hits. I assume that pretty much everyone on this forum wants to have new music from the guys. I personally, will take whatever the guys will give us. (I'd love a new Eagles album or a new Glenn Frey solo album (just not something like After Hours because that's not my kind of music) ).

I would think that Don would concentrate on Cass County for the rest of the year, and that the rest of the guys would want some down time after 2 years of touring behind HoTE.

If I could write the timeline for the next few years, it would go like this:
2015- Don works on Cass County (touring/promoting). The other guys can do whatever(solo stuff or time with family)
2016- after Don wraps up Cass County, Eagles work on a new album (though not as long as LROOE)
2017- release new album, tour behind it and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hotel California. (That way if they want to, they can retire on a high note)
2018- solo work

I know that this is probably very wishful thinking, but they say if you dream, dream big!

In fact it will be more like the deluxe edition of After Hours. The so-called deluxe edition of LROOE had one previously released track on it. The standard version of AH had 10 tracks; the deluxe edition 14. I would doubt the packaging would be different.

This quotation:

You know, Rick Nelson (http://www.billboard.com/artist/365030/rick-nelson/chart) put out a song called 'Garden Party' a long time ago about an experience he had at Madison Square Garden where he was trying to do some new material, and the audience started booing him because all they wanted to hear was what he had done in the past.

Perhaps if the Eagles hadn't treated LROOE the way they have done on the HOTE tour fans may have not as been as hostile to it as he implies. Is he saying the LROOE tour was a failure? I don't know.

VAisForEagleLovers
06-19-2015, 07:41 PM
Well, I know the review by The Washington Post for the July 2008 LROOE said that the audience sat, bored, waiting for them to get done with the new stuff because it was the hits they wanted to hear. I was there, I heard them sing along to How Long quite loudly, and some sang along to others. Most of the ones around me knew all the words to all the new songs. Anyway, the review was very nearly word-for-word of a review from a midwestern newspaper from the week before. So given that one review seemed to make the rounds around to each newspaper, they all said audiences were bored with the new stuff.

Conversely, it's possible they were. It amazes me how many Eagles fans I met at work, while shopping, at other concerts, etc, that didn't even know they'd released an album, so maybe quite a few didn't realize it until they showed up at the concert. They all knew about Farewell 1 because it was on NBC. I mean, if you hadn't heard about it, learning about it at the concert could be disconcerting and make you feel alienated.

I will timidly raise my hand that I didn't know about LROOE mainly because of health reasons & the fact that The Eagles don't use youtube to promote anything. WITW has becomes one of my favorite all time songs. I don't understand why they didn't include at least 1 song from that cd on HotE tour. They did release the cd & it was successful even if it wasn't widely praised. Granted WITH is 7+ minute song so do How Long! Off of my rant now because it is now less than a month to Atlantic City. My best friend booked our room for a girls weekend.

I noticed the picture from LA that Don used hair color again just when it looked like he was embracing his salt & pepper reality. Just like the perm in the 70's please just make it stop already! Looks like a ton of hair product was used to get the "volume" used for the photo with his guitar.

Looking forward to hopefully having Cass County in my hands very soon.

I'm still not sure about the impact of the History Of The Eagles documentary. I'd guess that more people own the Eagles records but perhaps more people have sat through the doc than have listened to 3 hours of Eagles music.

I hope Don doesn't judge his new tunes by the reaction they get in concert, as the Eagles seem to have done with their, number one, worldwide hit album Long Road Out Of Eden. No matter how good the new tunes are, they wont get a better cheer than when the audience hears the opening bars of The Boys Of Summer, Hotel California and Desperado

The History Of The Eagles tour kinda confirmed how insignificant their solo careers have become. It's down to Don to help redress the balance. I'm rooting for him,

Maybe the Eagles should do a short "2K Tour" consisting only of songs from this Century (ok, an encore of oldies) as an antidote to the HOTE tour. I hope the guys, both solo and as a band, amount to more than a "jukebox" of classic rock oldies.

I raised an eyebrow when I read that, Don feels he needs "to get a move on". At his current rate, when his follow up to Cass County is ready for release, if CC does indeed come out in 2015, Don will be in his eighties! Beyond that I think we're definitely talking posthumous :eyebrow:

I think that a "2k" tour would be cool. I'd love to hear several songs from LROOE, and some from their solo albums. Unfortunately, the majority of the "fans" would be upset to go to a concert and not hear the "jukebox". I wonder how many tickets they would sell if they do a tour like that and marketed it as a "2k" tour?

The old songs are still going strong, and that won't stop anytime soon. LROOE was a success (7x platinum here in the states iirc), but for some reason, a vast majority of the fans refuse to give the nee music a chance at live shows, and that really sucks.

Now, with Don solo, I'm not sure since it's been 15 years since Inside Job. Hopefully most will like to hear 5 songs from CassCounty in the set.

I would think that the guys would get something out of performing the non hits. Are they doing "James Dean" on the HoTE tour? Because if not, that's a "non hit" I'd like to see they do(ok it's popular, but not HC or Lyin Eyes popular). If Don's tired of being a jukebox, he should say something to Glenn if they do tour again!

I have to say this. One of my favorite old groups from the 70s, The Osmonds put out a new studio album for the first time since actually the 80s a few years ago and a lot of us fans wanted to hear new music from them. When they finally put out their new album 3 years ago, the fans loved the album and we actually wanted to hear a lot of the new songs in their show. OF course they are more bigger in Europe than their own country they are from, so us in the US really didn't get a nice tour of that album like Europe did. They can't fill the arenas like they can in Europe. They do casinos, small theaters and of course they're in Branson a lot throughout the year, but the good thing is. They do have 3 or 4 new songs in their set now which us fans love to hear.

For them, they also said the fans didn't want to hear the new music. Which was not true. With a band who hasn't put out new music (not counting cover albums, greatest hits albums or gospel album) since the 80s, we wanted to hear new songs. Sometimes The Osmonds don't even play their hit songs in their set(well not all of them). They have Heartache Tonight also in their set(they made this song a country sing in the 80s and that's why I don't like the song), their country hits and sometimes songs from other people. And the funny thing is. Their excuse of not playing the new music or their hits is because of the audience. They say majority of the audience is older people who remembered them from the Andy Williams show, but they have to remember. The fans who are their age(their ages are 62, 60 and 52) will want to listen to hard rocking songs. I hear it every time I go to their shows in Branson every year. The people from the 60s will be long gone soon and they(who were fans during their stardom in the 70s) will be the blue haired ladies(its a joke among us Osmond fans because the buses that come from everywhere across the US is older people) they will be playing too.

I guess it just depends. To me. If you haven't put out an album for 15 or 20 years, the fans will be so happy to hear them. If Don. NO let me rephrase that. If his record company and PR do a great job promoting Cass Country and not pull a David Geffen, CC will be a great success. The record company has to be behind you 100%. Don has been screwed before(heck twice), he's probably being cautious with Capitol.

If you go into the tour or album release thinking the fans will not want to hear it, then its not going to be successful. Don will have to do the late shows, the talk shows, Today, Good Morning America, heck SNL (he did it for twice for his albums) to make this album work. Do the CMAs in November and the other awards shows(I don't know how long Don will do a tour for CC) to promote CC. The Eagles did it for How Long and Busy Being Fabulous, he can do it for CC. IMO I know it will be successful.

Yeah, the guys' track record for releasing new material since 1990 (past 25 years) is very subpar. 4 songs on HFO,1 on the best of, 2 on F1, then 13 years later after they reformed, LROOE. Maybe we'll get a new album in 2020 ? Solo career-wise it's just as bad: Glenn- 2 albums (one of which he ignores and the other a covers album except for the title track), and 4 new songs on the solo collection. Don- one album, Joe- 2 albums. (I don't know about Timothy sorry). So over the past 25 years, we have a combined 6 albums and 11 singular new songs released. Not very active!

ETA: ok, make that 7 new albums, including Timothy's. (Thanks Shum)

If you go into the tour or album release thinking the fans will not want to hear it, then its not going to be successful. Don will have to do the late shows, the talk shows, Today, Good Morning, heck SNL (he did it for twice for his albums) to make this album work. Do the CMAs in November and the other awards shows(I don't know how long Don will do a tour for CC) to promote CC. The Eagles did it for How Long and Busy Being Fabulous, he can do it for CC. IMO I know it will be successful.

Shun, I do believe that you hit the nail on the head here! I truly hope that Capitol supports Don to the best of their abilities. Don said exactly what you said in the doc.

A few days ago, I mentioned promotion of Cass County. I wondered if Don would wait until the mothership landed at the end of July to start focusing solely on Cass County. We've already seen/read a good dozen articles about the preview of the album, so I think that Don will do some promotion. Given how many well known names are on this album, he kinda has to. Heck, some of the people on the album might give Cass County some free promotion. "Hey I sang on Don's Henley's new album. It's great. Check it out"... something like that.

I'm convinced he'll be nominated, too. If so, I hope he performs at the awards shows like the Eagles did for the CMAs in 2007 and 2008... but perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself.

Nahh. Soda. You're not thinking too ahead.

I think he will perform at the CMAs and I definitely seeing him being nominated for the Vocal Event of The Year at the CMAs even the Grammys. With a lot of country stars on his album, he probably will be invited to perform at the CMAs. Being nominated probably won't start until next year. I think there's a certain timeline for songs to be nominated for the CMAs or any awards show.

shunlvswx
06-20-2015, 11:11 PM
I just look up the deadline for voting for nomination for the CMAs of each year. They have to put out a single, album etc between July 1st the year before to June 30th the following year. So he's eligible to be nominated for a CMA next year, but could still perform at this year's awards show. But than again. Some country singers will probably not be happy about that. He'll be safe for the Vocal Event of The Year.

VAisForEagleLovers
06-20-2015, 11:15 PM
He keeps being so vocal about how low the bar is with today's country he won't be asked to perform. I'm not saying I don't agree with him, because I definitely do, but Nashville has proven they'd rather have young money than quality.

I've got a feeling that he'll be honored with a CMA award or another award (possibly grammy?). Maybe best duet. I wonder if there's a category for "best guest performance on a song"?

If Don does perform at the CMA awards I hope it's nothing like the Eagles. I hope he's engaging and entertaining.

I get the impression that a lot of awards shows are somewhat predictable and without even hearing it, Cass County has got, award winner, written all over it.

I wonder if the sycophants on this side of the Atlantic will have some thing to award Don this or next year. He's been around long enough.

I'm not sure how predictions of award nominations can be made before any of us have even heard this album. I mean it may win every award going but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

sodascouts
06-21-2015, 07:42 PM
That's a fair point, FP. It's just that it's pretty typical for someone who's been in the business as long as Don has to at least get a nomination at these country award shows, especially if they are doing a duet with a hot young star. Bob Seger even won an award at the CMTs for his duet with Jason Aldean, and he's nowhere near Don in name recognition.

The Grammys are a tougher nut to crack. We'll see.

Funk 50
06-25-2015, 06:14 AM
Always the cynic, it'd be a little scoop to have Don perform at their awards show. A nominations or two, plus a couple of guest duetist also being present at the Ceremony would pave the way for something special.

You can see the possibilities without hearing a note of Cass County. Prestige and prominence are far more important than merit.

None that I know of. I've been checking every couple of days for new info, and so far, nothing. My guessing is that any previews of songs will be released a few weeks before the album.

The last couple of Eagles releases, going back several years, I've been able to download albums off the internet days, if not weeks before the official release.

I think the unified world release day for new albums is a measure to prevent this happening so I'm not sure I'll be able to get Cass County before the released date. I'll be looking though

I love the YouTube video. Wow!!! I don't know how many times I've watched the video.

I have itunes so I'm going to get the two new songs and listen. I have to say. I have three things I'm looking forward to later in the year, Don's tour(I really hope I can see a show nearby), Don's album and The Kennedy Center Honors. Great to hear Don singing on the radio. Wonderful to hear Don singing something new.

After a little more investigation, you can listen to Take A Picture Of This and That Old Flame here:

Take A Picture Of This is a great song. I'm still to listen to the duet with Martina McBride.

shunlvswx
07-17-2015, 09:31 AM
OK. I have now listen to both songs. Here's my opinion.

That Old Flame: I love it. I'm glad Martina is not oversinging over Don or overpowering Don. What do I mean? Martina has a very powerful soprano voice. Her voice can really stand out when she hits those high notes and sometimes she can oversing whoever she sings with, but they blend very well together. A great song. I'm glad Don picked her to do a duet with. Martina is one of my favorite country singers. I've been a fan of her music since 1994.

Take A Picture Of This: Wow!!!! Now this is the Don I love. Straight to the heart love songs. Its kinda a history song. Kinda like Taking You Home and For My Wedding. The lyrics are great. Thumbs up!!!

So my overall opinion of the two songs. If these two songs are a preview of what's to come on the album, I'm going to like it. I'm a big country fan. I'm a fan of 80s, 90s and real early 2000s country music (before it became more country pop again). IMO Don is in this category of the country sound of the 80s, 90s and some of the 2000s. I'm really going to enjoy the album. I can't stop playing those two songs especially Take a Picture Of This.

Here are the cities he will tour that will start in October. No dates yet. Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Durham, NC; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Port Chester, NY; San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Toronto, ON and Washington, D.C.

I can do Chicago if he's going to be there at the end of October because I'm on vacation in Missouri during that time and I would drive to Chicago to see him . Other than that, I don't see me seeing him on this tour since its very close to my vacation :-(
